Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!

Introduction

Everybody has had that stage in their life where they have thought themselves to be special, different from the masses of ordinary humans. They might go as far as seeing themselves capable of wielding mystical powers, or maybe even believe themselves to have descended from a fantasy realm. This "disease" is known as "chuunibyou" and is often the source of some of the most embarrassing moments of a person's life. For Yuuta Togashi, the scars that his chuunibyou has left behind are still fresh. Having posed as the "Dark Flame Master" during his middle school years, he looks back at those times with extreme embarrassment, so much so that he decides to attend a high school far away where nobody will recognize him. Putting his dark history behind him, he longs to live a normal high school life. Unfortunately, he hasn't escaped his past yet: enter Rikka Takanashi, Yuuta's new classmate and self-declared vessel of the "Wicked Eye." As this eccentric young girl crashes into Yuuta's life, his dream of an ordinary, chuunibyou-free life quickly crumbles away. In this hilarious and heartwarming story of a boy who just wants to leave his embarrassing memories behind, the delusions of old are far from a thing of the past. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

That's kind of romcom best for any mood, anytime and anyone! Story is quite light, cute, and entertaining to watch. I never even felt like "why are you telling me that in 24min EP"? You know the thing, some producers tend to blow off the viewtime with nonsense... But not here. Chūnibyou's explained short, club's activity fast introduced, and drama even when appears doesn't stay on too long. Instead, whole show is full of gags, love, and fights (they def forgot to add "Action" genre for this anime :D) Other big plus is characters. Not only Rikka who's well known even for no-fans thanks to her silly moments (Umbrella self-defense!!!☂️), but also Nibutani, Kumin, and Dekomori-desu are all as kawaii as possible. Sometimes I even tended to forget there's MC, and it felt just like CGDCT fo…

"Do not kill the part of you that is cringe. Kill the part which cringes." This simple piece of internet wisdom is the best way I can describe Love, Chuunibyo, and Other Delusions. Beyond just being an extremely tender romance presented in a hilarious way, it holds within it an important message about what it means to be happy, about where authenticity conquers shame, and how 8th grade you was right all along about what's cool. Having watched Season 1, Season 2, the movies and the specials, I'm glad to review it all here. First, the story is very strong. The core concept, of a girl stuck in that quasi-delusional state of pretend and self-aggrandizement which so many adolescents experience growing up, and the tale of how her and and a guy who's having trouble dealing with that part of his o…

It was my first romance and also became my favourite after re-watching it years later. Kyoani's animation is as usual godly. The story and premise is both unique and fun to watch. The characters are fun to watch while also being deep and realistic. The comedy can sometimes not hit but overall its a fun show that makes you smile. Kyoani also made a great job at adapting an at time 2 volume Light Novel into a 12 episode anime while not even touching the second volume. The only way i can see someone not enjoy this story is if they hate romance or if they are too embarrassed by the antics of the characters to properly enjoy the show

A fun romance-comedy that borrows a lot of elements from Harui Suzumiya. Only this time, Kyon is trying to escape his embarrasing past. Meanwhile, Nagato is an eccentric LARPER who does Naruto-runs in school. Keep in mind that this anime is chock full of moe CGDCT and fanservice. Kyoto Animation really went all-out with its signature "moe blob" artstyle. For children who go through middle-school, there's a certain period where they try to invent themselves. This phenomenon is known as "Chuunibyou," or "8th-grade syndrome." It refers to all the cringy, childish, and whimsical personas we develop before we reach high school. Yuuta Togashi is one of those people. Hoping to bury his embarrassing past, Yuuta tries to re-establish himself at his new high-school. However, all of those efforts b…

Im going to be honest, their was many times in this anime i was fighting to not skip ahead, cornyness after cornyness but i held it down until the last episode and i realised that Im the corny one. Their isnt really anything corny about this anime, from the very beginning its been about teenagers having fun and enjoying themselves in their own weird way, and their isnt anything corny about that at all, and i think thats the message the anime masterfully portrays within these 12 episodes People get so caught up in living in other expectations that they cant think for themselves even when watching an anime ALONE at 3:52 AM😭 Overall the characters were all great even if they didnt have a "50 episode long in detail backstory" each they all felt like their own person all the way to the en…

Love, Chuunibyou and other Delusions is one of the finest anime I've ever watched. This anime doesnt have a wasted frame, its structure is perfectly crafted to tell the story of Rikka Takanashi, each character is perfectly used and all have meaning beyond just existing, there are no weaker episodes, and the animation is pretty good. I believe that this show used every tactic they could to make this anime the perfect contained story, with a possibility for more after the final episode. I also found it incredibly entertaining and thats why it became my favourite anime when i was a kid. It still is. Firstly i believe that the characters were incredibly well written. Ignoring spoiler topics about Rikka and Yuuta, each character serves their purpose whilst feeling like people. all while staying…

The story is based on "Eighth Grade Syndrome," where teenagers believe they have special powers and mimic unique, "cool" characters. The protagonist decides to abandon this behavior upon entering high school, but is surprised to encounter a girl wearing an eye patch, and the story revolves around how he tries to live a normal life with her presence. Yuta and Rika are one of the most beloved duos in the anime world because their relationship doesn't start romantically. The focus is initially on their individual characters and their synergy, with the romantic aspect developing later. The story emphasizes all its characters, which strengthens the "slice of life" genre, as the power of this category lies in the depth of its characters. The finale of the first season was excellent, serving as…

I really have no idea what to make of this anime. I mean, I seriously, really, truly truly, hontouni hontouni have no idea how to rate or review this anime. It's all over the map for me. Truthfully, I only rated it what I did because it's the closest to the average that everyone else did. But, I'm going to try to review it anyway. At the least, it'll help me get my thoughts together, and at the best, I'll have said something interesting you can make use of. Let me say flat out: this was recommended to me as my recommendation for the 2024 Secret Santa, and that is the *only* reason I watched through to the 12th episode. If it weren't for that, I would have dropped it in the second episode. And my feelings about whether or not that was a good idea are still... mixed. I considered it respect…

This was really painful to watch. The core concept is about people who Live Action Roleplay (LARP). Remember when as a child, you would run around the house shooting imaginary lasers? Imagine doing that in school.... as a teenager. If you told me that beneath the cringe there is something, I wouldn't be able to argue because I cannot get through the cringe. It's like if I was watching the Godfather but in the corner of the screen there is someone pooping into a jar. Yes, I might be able to enjoy the movie if I could ignore him, but I can't do that can I? There also is the aspect where the show tries to preach that fixing your faults is wrong(?) Kind of a weird lesson. Also, why is the main heroine LARPing? Are there people into that? If I put myself into the main character's shoes, I woul…

As someone who's had their fair share of embarrassing middle school moments, I instantly connected with Yuuta's struggles to shed his "chuunibyou" persona. And Rikka? Oh Rikka, you adorable weirdo, I love you! Her antics had me laughing out loud, but also made me feel all the feels when she opened up about her past. The supporting cast is equally lovable, especially Dekomori and Nibutani. Dekomori's long hair is stunning, and her petite stature only adds to her adorable factor. Her enthusiasm is infectious, and she's always ready to dive into Rikka's fantastical world. Nibutani, on the other hand, brings a sweet and subtle charm, often serving as the voice of reason while hiding her own quirky side. The animation and soundtrack are top-notch, with beautiful fantasy sequences and catchy O…

In accordance with the theme raised from this anime "hazy", and the execution is good, I sometimes don't understand the jokes of Japanese people maybe because of different cultural habits and others, that's also one of the reasons I'm on hold of an anime, because the jokes may be funny for the tastes of the Japanese themselves, but for people who don't understand Japanese culture sometimes it doesn't enter the jokes, but I really like this anime, I really like the comedy, plus the characters are very expressive, and the jokes used are more universal, the characters are not stiff, the color tone is okay, making the conversation of each character feel not forced, maybe I'm biased or something like that but this anime relates to me who likes to be hazy, I have schizophrenia, although not to t…

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! starts off like a light-hearted comedy about "Chunibyo", basically the concept of young teens acting like they have some sort of magical powers. They come up with silly names Dark Flame Master, Wicked Lord, Legion Iscariot,... Yuuta is very embarrassed about his past life so he decides to go to the furthest highschool where no one would recognize him. However he encounters Rikka a girl who is still a chunibyo. And so he is sucked back into a life he tried so hard to escape. So like a said it starts off as a silly comedy. Young teens role playing fantasy demon stuff. School comedy slice of life romance. And i wish it had stayed that way. However since this anime was tagged as drama I already knew that there would be a tonal shift near the end. Alot of com…

A boy wishes to move on from an awkward phase of his life and recreate his image at a new school. Everything is going swell until he encounters an enigmatic girl whose eccentric behavior reminds him of the embarrassing memories he wishes to forget. Adolescence is the metamorphosis of youth, where the wildness of imagination becomes aware of its own existence, as well as the existence of those other imaginations surrounding itself. Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! is a thematic story that addresses this period of change in life with interludes of comedy, romance, and drama. The writing is strong on all fronts--the anime does a lot and does it all well. There is a major shift in narrative tone that occurs throughout the show; the frivolity and joy in the first half of the series dissipate…

This show isn't for everyone but I really enjoyed it. The animation is stunning, the characters are interesting, and the narrative while not perfect can really hit sometimes. I really came to love these characters and came out of this show smiling. It does have some spots that feel a bit sloppy but it makes up for it for the moments that it really shines. While some of the ideas it was trying to express felt a little forced and awkward there were others that really hit home and made me really feel a connection with some of these characters. Not a perfect show but I got a lot out of it so give it a shot if it looks good to you!

I wrote a separate blog post about girls of Chunibyo, you can find it on my MAL profile page blog. However this show deserves a proper overall review. Overall it is rather gentle and cozy show in best traditions of KyoAni. It does however tackles rather serious psychological questions and gives different points of view regarding so called Chunibyo or 8th grader syndrome. Rikka's sister, Yuuta and Nibutani oppose it believing in being 'normal'. Though Nibutani and Yuuta relent in the end of the show and embrace Rikka's way of life. In contrast Rikka clings to it to escape cruel reality that has nothing in it for her but pain and misery. I do not like that is it about her father as I hate my parents. If if was over some other issue I would have probably given this show 8. However the…

This anime tell its beautiful story in a unique way. The story is neatly wrapped in a package that says Chuunibyou. Most people think its a childish way to do. Acting like they have some kind of power, and is superior better than everyone else. But behind that super power mask, is actually a normal people that have their own problem. They act like this because this is their coping mechanism to pressure the pain of struggle and problem. So in this anime we will meet 'weird' people and watch what actually is happening inside their heads. Expect a lot of tears, but also a lot of laugh. First half of the anime will introduce you characters. How quirky they are and how crazy they are in term of their Chuunibyou. Its all filled with a very humorous jokes here and there. I can't stop smiling wat…

Part 1 English Part 2 Bahasa Indonesia -------------------------------------- Ah, Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! What a mouthful of a title. But don't let that scare you away, this anime is actually pretty decent. The story follows a group of high school students who suffer from "chuunibyou," a condition where they believe they have special powers and are living in a fantasy world. It's like if Harry Potter was set in a high school, but with less magic and more awkward teenage romance. The style of this anime is nothing to write home about, but it's pleasant enough. The animation is clean and the character designs are cute. Nothing groundbreaking, but it gets the job done. Now, let's talk about some of the main characters. We have the protagonist, a former chuunibyou sufferer who is t…

The pacing is good, although sometimes the show gets a little boring because of a lack of major events, but the dialogues are entertaining. Toward the end, it was a little hard to follow. There is a huge difference in tone after the first 6 episodes. I feel that the comedy was good, and the drama was also quite nice as well. Plot-wise, I have to say that the story delivered, and imparted a message that was inspiring, more or less. A bunch of random stuff gets piled into the last episode which was kinda hard to follow as I said earlier. Characters were all good except for Touka, Rikka's sister whose actions make little to no sense. With a show that deals a lot with self-conscience and avoiding moments that can best be described as "cringe", the show isn't too hard to watch as there aren't t…

Generally speaking when picking anime to view I’ll read the summary and watch the intro. For some reason I chose to do neither for this anime, and simply said “that’s a cool pic I’ll watch it” and 12 episodes and a week later I’m done with it. I thought the first 50% of the show was boring for lack of a better word. It was not until they started explaining the background and why the main female character was the way she was that the show had any sort of interest. Sadly even the darker more emotional second half of this 12 episode show wasn’t enough for me to say this was a good show or recommend it to others. They for sure tried to shove some emotion into the end and some life lessons but for me at least the pay-off wasn’t enough to justify watching the show.
