Lycoris Recoil

Lycoris Recoil

Introduction

The number of terrorist acts in Japan has never been lower, thanks to the efforts of a syndicate called Direct Attack (DA). The organization raises orphaned girls as killers to carry out assassinations under their "Lycoris" program. Takina Inoue is an exceptional Lycoris with a strong sense of purpose and a penchant for perfection. Unfortunately, a hostage situation tests her patience, and the resulting act of insubordination leads to her transfer out of DA. Not thrilled about losing the only place she belonged to, she reluctantly arrives at her new base of operations—LycoReco, a cafe in disguise. Takina's new partner, however, turns out to be quite different from what she imagined. Despite being the famed Lycoris prodigy, Chisato Nishikigi appears almost unconcerned with her duties. She drags Takina along on all kinds of odd jobs under the simple explanation of helping people in need. Takina is even more puzzled when Chisato takes down a group of armed assailants without killing any of them. Feeling like a fish out of water, Takina itches to get reinstated into DA—but Chisato is determined to prove to her that there is more to a life than just taking them. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I absolutely adored Chisato. Her cheerful personality, natural humour, and genuine excitement for life made her incredibly easy to love, and the voice acting brings all of that energy to life perfectly. I especially loved how her kindness never felt forced, and how her outlook slowly began affecting Takina as they grew closer. Their relationship is the heart of the series, while Café LycoReco provides the perfect setting for their playful banter and slice-of-life moments, especially alongside Mika and Kurumi. Unfortunately, the story tries to be deeper than it actually is, and the villains feel cartoonishly evil. The animation and action were also less impressive than expected from A-1 Pictures, especially compared to 86 and Solo Leveling. It's ultimately a fairly simple series, but Chisat…

When it comes to *Lycoris Recoil*, I honestly have a hard time knowing exactly what to say. It is difficult to say this about such a popular anime, but I simply did not enjoy it as much as I expected. I would not call it a bad anime at all, but it just never really managed to leave a strong impression on me. The main issue for me is the story. I did not really connect with the plot, and even though the anime clearly has interesting ideas and a lot of work behind its world-building, I never had that moment where I thought: “This is genuinely a great anime.” The same goes for the characters. They are not bad, and some of them are actually quite fun and entertaining, but I never became deeply invested in their personal stories or relationships. However, the anime still has several qualiti…

What do you get when you take a cheerful teenage girl who can dodge bullets like she has future vision, pair her with a socially awkward assassin who takes everything way too seriously, and throw them into a world where a cute cafe is secretly run by highly trained government agents? You get Lycoris Recoil an anime that somehow manages to combine gunfights, coffee, comedy, and surprisingly wholesome character moments into one ridiculously entertaining package. Lycoris Recoil looks like it could be another “cute girls doing dangerous things” anime but once you start watching, you realize it is not just about flashy action scenes and stylish gun battles. The real appeal comes from its characters, especially the completely opposite personalities of Chisato and Takina, who turn every mission…

THIS IS A SPOILER-FREE REVIEW 2022 was a year that was absolutely packed with amazing shows. “Cyberpunk Edgerunners”, “Spy x Family”, “Chainsaw Man”, “My Dress-Up Darling”, “Blue Lock”, “The Eminence in Shadow” and much more, i can´t even name them all. So standing out in a year like that was pretty hard. When i went through the catalogue of shows that year, one of them caught my eyes: “Lycoris Recoil” is an anime original by A-1 Pictures and was seen by many as a hidden gem. But can this show compete with the insane output the anime industry had at that time? Story – 5/10 Well, the story is kind of all over the place here. The show is a mix of many different genres, but the main selling point is the mix between slice-of-life, comedy and action. Many anime have tried to get this type of…

(Originally written on 2025/07/01, the day I finished watching this title) (Actual score - 9.25/10) Overall, it was a varied and consistently enjoyable experience - no issues whatsoever. ARTSTYLE - Great; on a fundamental level, it was not different from many other anime - with "smooth", detailed, and mostly realistic character, background, etc. appearances / shapes - but it worked really well here, in terms of the general setting of this anime; also just really pleasant to look at. - The lighting and shading were equally great, contributing to the existence of many beautiful-looking scenes. DESIGNS - Also great; every main + side character & background looked distinct and was quickly recognizable - on top of unique char models, each of them had at least one major distinguishing feat…

Lycoris Recoil is a high-quality production with a lot of potential to be found in its concept and characters, but it unfortunately has a weak plot that lacks the emotional impact it deserves. The animation and art style is fantastic -- this alone is doing a lot of heavy lifting for my score of this show. It has a very clean look to it, plus a certain style and flavor (as can be seen in the OP and the mid-episode eyecatches). The action scenes are exciting, well choreographed, and genuinely entertaining. The slice-of-life scenes are enjoyable and strengthen the positive vibes that the hero team is meant to exude. The music -- though nothing groundbreaking -- enhances the experience. And, the characters have a lot of potential, seeming at first glance to have complexity and depth. Chisato…

Lycoris Recoil is a bundle of a joy with sick ass action scenes. The tension and drama is bound to keep you hooked, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Not to mention that Chisato Nishikigi is the second coming of Jesus Christ and must be protected at all costs. That last part may have been exaggerated, but the protagonist of Lycoris Recoil is basically a cute Batman, determined to protect civilians without taking lives, sparing henchmen as a pledge to her life. I loved the blend between cuteness, slice of life, and John Wick style action wrapped with a pretty good story. The cast is fun and memorable, Mika is the fatherly old man of the LycoCafe (who looks like Ty Dolla Sign) serving as the mentor and backbone figure. Mizuki Nakahara is the MILF (definitely top 10) and waitress of LycoCafe who is dragg…

I really thought I was going to love Lycoris Recoil. I mean, right from the first episode, it looks incredible. The character designs are appealing, the animation is smooth, and the action scenes are exciting to watch. The gunfights had style, the expressions are lively, and everything just feels polished. Production wise, it’s hard to complain. It’s one of those shows where you can tell the staff really cared about how it looked. But man, actually watching it started to feel like work. The story just didn’t grab me the way I expected. It throws in big concepts such as secret government programs, terrorism, and moral gray areas, but never really digs into them in a satisfying way. A lot of plot developments feel convenient, like things happen because the script needs them to happen, not…

Lycoris Recoil Woah its been so long I rated an anime a 10 ! To begin with i would like to talk about the story the main problem with most anime are that either they start too slow or visa versa while " Lycoris Recoil " maintains the balance in such way one might not even notice the transition between the first half and the second half of the anime blending without having the thought " this is going way too slow/fast for me to put things together " the story might feel similar in concept yet it somehow stands out because the way the story is written maybe idk it just keeps you hooked to binge it ! Now the animations and visuals, the animations are top notch gun shots motion physics movements everything is done precisly the effort surly is visible ! the colours, lightings, scenes every…

At first, I was a little skeptical about this show. I honestly thought it might end up being just another bad girl’s love series that focused more on surface level romance with a sprinkle of action, rather than a story with real weight or meaning. To me, it looked like it could easily have been a quick cash grab without much substance. But after sitting down and watching the very first episode, all of those doubts quickly faded, I was hooked right away. What really surprised me was how much effort and care clearly went into this production. The story is genuinely compelling, with excellent pacing that never feels rushed or dragged out. The animation quality is consistently strong, bringing both the action and the more emotional scenes to life in a vivid way. On top of that, the voice acti…

Easy entertainment, so long as you don't think too hard about it. This show is basically the anime version of a summer blockbuster. Weak plot, shallow characters, cute girls, explosions, guns, appeals to woke culture by having all the heroes be girls and all the villains be boys, insert obligatory black character who looks like every other anime black character, add a "Lolita" adult who looks and acts like a child to appease the pedos, mix that all together and what do you get? Cotton candy! Light, fluffy, colorful, sugary, 99% air. For most people, it's all they need and they'll have a delightful time. If you're looking for substance, though, you'll find this show wanting.

A goddam masterpiece. That's what it is. Lycoris Recoil isn't just cute anime girls using guns. It's a deep political action thriller and I love it for that. It isn't afraid to go dark, to the very depths of ethics and humanity to look itself in the mirror and ask the hard questions. There's no such thing as peace without evil, and a balance is always required. Peace without Evil is just Delusion. There's Lycoris, cute lil school girls clearing out "evil" without anyone knowing for the greater good. Lycoris flower, or Red Spider Lily as it's more commonly known, is a symbol usually associated with death, so poetic af. Then there's the DA, the organization that handles all the dirty work with Lycoris. Let me say, Companies, no matter doing how noble of a work, getting their workers in troub…

Okay, this might be a "spoiler", but first of all, the description of "Lycoris Recoil" shown on AniList is a complete and utter lie. There are no zombies or giant monsters in sight in this entire series....although I guess, in a way, the antagonists of this anime could be considered monsters. Well, it's not like the deceptive description was going to deter me from watching Lycoris Recoil, anyway. It looks as cute as you might expect from a Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime with a gunslinging twist, and it's been well-received enough to receive two new anime projects after it aired, as well as several manga and light novel spin-offs. Now that I've seen it for myself, you might be wondering: did I like it as much as other people did, or did it cause me to recoil at how bad it is? Obviously,…

Wasn't going to write a review on this, but I figured I should type out something quickly. Despite the constant statements of shippers online, this isn't a yuri anime. The two main characters aren't physically affectionate at all, and merely have a close friendship. There isn't even any sexual tension. People on the internet will turn any same-sex friendship into boys love or girls love these days it seems. That has nothing to do with the rating though, it's a show that does somethings right and somethings wrong. The villains are interesting, there's basically 3 of them and have their own motivations that sometimes come in conflict with each other. The story is somewhat captivating and I liked Chisato, her ability and the story around her. It made for an enjoyable watch. The things t…

I’m throwing away all the objectivity of this review. I needed this anime. It’s just very solid. The characters are wonderful and the voice acting has so much personality. The only thing keeping this show from a 10 is that the plot could have been a little stronger between the DA, the Allen Institute, and the morality of a secret police force in society. You heard that last one. This show is about cute girls who Minority Report terrorist attacks. Except I would say that is the least interesting part of the show even though it is mildly interesting especially when he does provide some philosophy to the major themes. But what is the best part of this show is Chisato and Takina. The bond they form is so strong that everything else in the show orbits around it. This is just further shown how…

I love how easy it is to convince me to watch something. I find so many shows I never would've imagined enjoying if I was being too strict with my conditions for what to watch and not watch. I simply saw the character designs for this show a while back and thought they were gorgeous, so it got put on the to-watch list for that, alone! And now that I finally watched it, I'm very happy I did! The character designs were definitely the highlight for this series! Animation was gorgeous all around, but I just loved watching the characters in various different lighting and facial expressions! Chisato and Takina were absolutely wonderful leads! They were super adorable and I enjoyed every single one of their interactions with each other. They have such a great dynamic with one another, being more…

The best thing about this anime is the interaction between Chisato and Takina, the story almost takes a backseat, believe me Chisato is going to steal your hearts, he has a magical smile. Great anime highly recommended if you want to see something unique and funny at times. And the best thing is that it is original, which is a huge plus.Believe me, the anime will be too short for you hahaha, it is extremely addictive in the last part, so I look forward to a second season.and chisato hahaha never stop smiling In short, for me 10 out of 10 and recommended for new anime viewers.

Look, is it the best show ever? No Does it make you really think about life? Couple times Is the villain the greatest ever? No But do the VAs for the main two characters sound like they are having a great time and does that energy make its way to the viewer? Absolutely. Lycoris recoil is one of the shows I have had the most fun watching. And ultimately I'm willing to overlook some flaws I could find if I went super critical on it in favor of just remembering how I felt every time the ending song played. Here's hoping there's more Chisataki in our futures.

I want to explain why I should make you watch this anime and why I shouldn't make you watch this anime. Let's talk about the "backbone" of this anime, what the outline of its themes is and how the story itself comes to life. So, it should be noted that this anime is very good at showing action scenes, with one drawback, namely the logic in the story itself. But before I reveal everything, I want to give my personal assessment of two categories from Visuals, and Story. [Visual] If I had to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 7.50/10. Maybe you feel that the score is too average, and indeed, the visuals of this anime itself are not much different from the visuals of other anime. But if I have to compare it with other anime, I myself choose Lycoris Recoil as the winner. [Story…

Take Violet & Daisy (2011) - give them Gun Kata from Equilibrium (2002) - with the setup of Gunslinger Girl - and a relationship akin to Buddy Cop Films - place them in a future Utopian City less incriminated & controlling than Psycho-Pass (so far anyway), think rectify instead of avert - you get Lycoris Recoil. I wasn't expecting this to be as good as it was. From episode 1 I was locked in and it managed to keep me locked in until the end. The action was great and it was awesome to see it wasn't just added in to attract viewers. The slice of life moments were great too, the comedy wasn't forced and seemed natural to the moments/conversations especially by not repeating themselves on that front. The characters were well thought out as well. Not one-dimensional, parodies or caricatures of…
