A Certain Scientific Railgun

A Certain Scientific Railgun

Introduction

The student-filled Academy City is at the forefront of scientific advancement and home to the esper development program. The seven "Level 5" espers are the most powerful in Academy City, and ranked third among them is middle schooler Mikoto Misaka, an electricity manipulator known as "The Railgun." When strange incidents begin occurring throughout the city, she finds each crime to be connected to the elusive "Level Upper," a legendary device that allegedly increases the esper level of its user. As the situation escalates, it becomes apparent that there is more to the Level Upper than meets the eye, and that Academy City may be a far more twisted place than the glamorous utopia it appears to be. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun focuses on Mikoto and her friends—and the dangerous situations they find themselves in—as they get caught up in the matter of the Level Upper. As Mikoto says, "There's never a dull moment in this city." [Written by MAL Rewrite]

# A Certain Scientific Railgun — Season 1 Review Railgun is supposed to be a spin-off of a larger series, whose main installment is Index. However, Index does not seem to be a particularly good anime in several respects, most notably its adaptation, to the point that Railgun's first season has a higher rating than every season of Index. The opinions surrounding Index are also extremely negative. This was one of the reasons I decided to give Railgun a try, and I will most likely watch Railgun on its own without watching Index. My review will also focus on Railgun itself. By that, I mean I will review it separately, as if Index did not exist, because why the hell would you want me to watch Index just to understand the limits of Railgun's protagonist's abilities? --- Railgun starts with t…

12 year old girls fighting petty crime. If that sounds appealing to you, then have at it with this anime... Im sure you know the synopsis or general idea of this anime so I wont explain that too much, but I really tried to enjoy this and I just couldn't, finishing a certain magical index left me feeling grey with this franchise. It wasn't everything it chalked up to be online, and I would say the same for this anime but worse. The story is about girls that are in a student body group that helps police fight petty crime, you expect to learn more about Misaka in this story (mc) but you really don't. I'll list pro's and con's of this anime Pro's: cool soundtrack, OK animation... and that's about it. Con's: Extremely boring and annoying side characters, terrible humor, and redundant themes t…

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun was the first and is the most popular Toaru spin-off series. It is specifically a spin-off of the main series, Toaru Majutsu no Index. Railgun is not a sequel, nor is it a prequel. It is a "spin-off" in the sense that it follows a different cast of characters within the world of Toaru, happening in parallel with the main Index series. That being said, it is 100% canon! Everything that happens in Railgun is (kind of) directly or indirectly relevant to the Index series (and vice versa). What makes Railgun worth watching? Should you start with Railgun or Index? Is Railgun better than Index? All of these are good questions that I wish to answer. There is no shame in only wanting to watch Railgun without Index. After all, Railgun is the series that everyone glazes and…

A Certain Magical Index isn't the only series that gets its own, whether from the light novels or the manga. Misaka Mikoto herself gets her own series in A Certain Scientific Railgun. We're looking into the first of the series which if you're curious where this takes place in the To Aru universe, it does take place before A certain Magical Index and later on, it gets integrated with an appearance of specific characters who I'll reveal as this review goes. As far as what I'd thought of the series, it was good. No better or worse than A Certain Magical Index. Just good. It's got some issues that I have with it, but we'll get to those later. For now, let's go into the story. There might be some spoilers. You have been warned. The story is mostly Misaka and her roommate, Kuroko Shirai, introdu…

This would have been a world better in a world of 13 epiosde anime season where it was forced to cut all the fluff. This should be the Misaka show with her sidekick roommate and it just isn't. Misaka is a borderline a side character at points, particularly in the latter part of the series. And while the roommate has her moments but no one else does or is interesting and they effectively become the main characters. Ditto the way they focus on the wrong bits of the world really frustrates as well. There's some good stuff in here but the latter half barring a few action scenes is a slog.

I came into this series while watching a variety of anime-related videos on YouTube, but I really got into it after hearing the catchy opening music. I've been wondering for a long time how this series' story was planned out, especially after I discovered that the anime has a few other ongoing series that focus around several characters' perspectives, but I'm only going to discuss about Railgun today. A Certain Scientific Railgun is an old anime series, hence it follows the classic anime running format of having different contents in each episode and having approximately 24 episodes in a season. This gave me a nostalgic feeling about the series and left a lasting impression in my memory. The tale revolved around residents in Academy City going about their daily lives. Almost everyone in t…

First of all, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is worse than the sequel (Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S) but doesn't let it fool you. It's excellent anime if you don't look for 24/7 action. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is a bit slow-paced, the theme of the first season is building with each episode later on. Characters in the anime are bild childish but likeable, character development goes better with every episode. Art style sadly isn't anything great, it's okay at best. The music and sound setting are very good. The story and plot of Toaru Kagaku no Railgun are pretty straightforward and look a bit like a build-up for Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S - which isn't bad at all. It's slow and steady, some may doesn't like some may like it. Overall at the beginning, it's pretty light-hearted but later on, going dar…

Story 9/10 9 just for the Sisters Arc. Everything else is about 6. Art 7/10 Sound 10/10 Character 8/10 Uiharu and Saten become more fleshed out later on but for now Misaka and Kuroko carries. Enjoyment 9/10 Overall 8/10 Anything beyond this is a general review of Railgun. "When magic and science collide, the story begins" or soemthing this statement cannot be anymore false in terms of anime only. While yes, Aleister technically made science out of magic but that isn't important to a anime only like me. Railgun is one of those series that are so highly regarded by its fanbase. This fanbase is not very loud though, not many people even knows this show exists, maybe except for Misaka fanart being tossed around everywhere. And yeah best girl polls often feature Misaka on the top placements…

I straight up watched the anime btw no manga geek. This show has been so impressive for me personally I rate it 11/10 for endless reasons, I watched the first two seasons of a certain scientific railgun almost a decade ago and thought that was it but no, a third season came out and I was thrilled at the same time very anxious about it being a flop so I gave it a chance and the more I did the more it rewarded me for that, after those seasons I started a bit of digging and found out that there were seasons these mad lads kept secret from me for all these years so I went ahead watched those and I'm very proud of the day I gave this series a chance it's been so entertaining and thrilling but you must have faith and patience if you want all that. this is by far the most enjoyable way to watch…

Quick Take: Railgun does a few things well, but nothing outstanding. I think one of the greatest assets of Railgun is its storyline. It's actually a half decent scif-fi-esque storyline that doesn't feel forced or too far out of the realm of possibility. It's far from perfect, but I genuinely enjoyed the plot. It falls short on a few things but the biggest is a lack of explanation as to what judgment actually is. It might be in its source material, Magical Index, but I didn't see that anime. A quick overview of what judgment's actual purpose is would be nice. In the grand scheme it's a bit confusing as to why you'd have both judgment and anti-skill. They seem to do the same thing, especially later on in the series. If for instance, the girls just get wrapped up in situations that they s…

This review is short. If you want a refreshing action anime, this might be it. The whole show takes place in a city of advanced technology but not really cyberpunk-esque. It looks like a semi-modern world but with advanced tech. The main cast are all girls, and so what makes this outstanding is the fact that as a viewer you get to enjoy a "slice-of-life"-esque show with "action" and an overarching antagonist per arc. Quite really fun, although the protagonist is surely overpowered (most of the time) there is clearly lacking aspects in them which the show tackles for character development. So want all-girls, action, slice-of-life, and sci-fi all at once? This is it.

The show can simply be summed up in one phrase: FILLERS ON FILLERS ON FILLERS!!! If you're looking for a show with action, keep it moving. I will admit that the action scenes in the show are amazing and really good, but god are they far and few between. I came into this show expecting action, and I think it is fair to say, probably within the first six episodes, there were maybe sporadic fight scenes that lasted less than a minute. The lack of action would not be so bad if the show was not so god damn boring. Episodes 12 and 13 are really good and action packed, and the 2 or so episodes leading up to them are pretty good too. The show finally gets a plot, and when the show knows what it wants to do, it is really good, but when it doesn't this show is almost painful to watch. I think the…

Hmm. I'm not gonna write a long review but really here are my thoughts 1. I really liked it. It was an action anime with some slice of life episodes. But the thing is, the SoL episodes (they seem like fillers tbh) actually do play a part in the main story. 2. I like how they didn't over use Misaka rail gun. 3. Really like the villain plot (are they really a villain?) It leave an ethical dillema for you. 4. Goes into the backstory of each character 5. No bull shit love romance thing that ruins the story Says i have to enter longer review so im just typing this now

I might be rating this a touch high, especially given some of its negatives, but A Certain Scientific Railgun is just so damned fun that a slightly elevated rating doesn't seem too out of line. And "fun" is a term that pegs most of A Certain Scientific Railgun's peaks: It's light and breezy, waving between small multi-episode mini-arcs and slice-of-life shenanigans. It has a smidgen of action—well-done when present—particularly around the climaxes of the two major arcs (so, like, eps. 11/12 and 23/24), although there are scattered moments throughout the series with some really nice action set pieces. But it's also a series with some gross vibes. The main characters are stated to be middle schoolers, but that doesn't prevent skeevy sexualization with various pantie shots (one character in…

Side note, this show is a spinoff to A Certain Magical Index, but I watched it before that show, as its own work, and will review it as such. Story: 6/10. The overall story is good and builds upon itself quite nicely in the end. The "in the end" part is important, because the majority of the episodes feel like self contained side stories that have nothing to do with one another. This is not the case, no episode is unnecessary, all is used in the final grand scheme so to speak. However, it makes the pacing feel awkward and detracts from the enjoyment. Art 8/10. Not much to say, it was nicely animated, never once did I find myself thinking that any frame, movement, etc, looked weird or bad. However the show seldom looks 'amazing.' Sometimes being amazing and at other times being a minimum…

Stumbled upon this one by complete accident. I'm honestly not sure why I kept watching it after the first few episodes; it sets up an interesting world and a cast with potential, but completely ruins a lot of its interest with awful writing, ecchi moments that really, really didn't need to happen, and little to no serious plotlines. The show does have three or four "arcs," all of which are boring and unfulfilling in terms of story, development, and action. This show was actually at its best when it focused purely on the slice-of-life elements. Seeing this group of four friends just hang out and enjoy life together was surprisingly refreshing and their personalities all mesh quite well. That beach episode genuinely became one of the most pleasant surprises I've had when watching anime. It…

Story 9/10 An excellent story which really draws in with two excellent climaxes firstly to the opening half of the series and finally at the end with a brilliant finale in which the MC Mikoto Misaka the famous Level 5 esper railgun will have to work with and rely on the friends that she has met on her journey so far. Some slower episodes but the way they really built up the show was just excellent and the slower episodes were entertaining and furthered the world and the characters for the most part. Art 8/10 An excellent really well drawn and animated world with good detail on the backgrounds and the characters. Sound 8/10 Sound and music are both good with some quality voice acting. Characters 9/10 Likable characters with all of the girls having their own traits and feelings, Miko…

I just finished the first season of A Certain Scientific Railgun and thoroughly enjoyed it! Although there were some slow-paced episodes near the beginning of the first arc in the series, I believe that time was utilized very well in terms of character development. I felt that I knew each of the four main characters on a personal level, as well as being able to get a full grasp on their relationships and dynamics with one another. This made me fully invested in everything that Misaka and her friends were experiencing and going through at any given point in the show. Things picked up for me around episode 8 or 9 and never looked back. A darker tone in plot (and a fair share of plot twists) was accompanied by well-animated fights, emotional story-telling, and specific moments that had me rew…

how should i put this? the show is anything but what you'd expect considering its about the railgun... for starters there's quite a few episodes where shes shown for less then 60 seconds for the entire episode... shirai almost has more screen time to be honest and to top it off most episodes are bland at best. not to mention we keep getting the same mood ruining scene over and over where shirai tries to fondle or show affection to misaka who wants nothing to do with it, usually just in time to ruin a serious scene for the show. probably the worst is the story is wild and has almost no direction. they repeatedly add an entire episode to portray one character that pops up again for maybe 30 seconds. honestly i don't know what they were thinking when they made this highly disappointing. what…
