One Room

One Room

Introduction

Having just moved into a new apartment building, Yui Hanasaka makes a customary visit to greet her neighbor. When she learns that he is an upperclassman at the university she aspires to attend, she asks for his help to pass her entrance exams. Meanwhile, Natsuki Momohara decides to visit her older brother, who lives alone in an apartment in Tokyo. Elsewhere, aspiring singer Moka Aoshima reunites with her childhood friend, who is a hopeful novelist. Three stories, although seemingly unrelated, contain the same essence: strings of fate will bind together those who share the same destiny, and one needs to look no further than a single apartment room. This anime is genuinely just such a nothing burger that I don't even know how I would write a full review that's more than like a paragraph. The story is basic, with tropes done a million times over. This would be okay if the characters were well written, in order to make things interesting, but genuinely for all characters but the last one you could summarize them in like half a sentence. Even then, the last character could be summarized in like 3 sentences. The runtime for this show is very short at about just shy of 40 minutes for the season, but even then it feels like there's a lot of padding, partially also due to the choice of not having a main character, being shot from a POV. This is, once again, fine if the characters are interesting to make up for it, but they just aren't. It's…

I say that this Anime is a mixed bag of feelings. Not the most innovative or the best but it does what it seeks out. Comes in a POV format that took getting used to. Basically 3 comfort stories mixed into one series, all about love. The anime speed runs 3 relationships 4 epidsodes each running at 4 minutes so a total of 16 minutes per story so it isn't the most fully fleshed out of all with developments that feel rushed and skipping through many points that often make romance work in anime. However do understand that it is an experimental medium so it could use more polish. Recommend to view once, is an experience to say the least. What is gathered from it just depends, worst case you lost 48 minutes of your life.

One Room becomes very funny if it follows just watching, 'Welcome to the N.H.K'. There is one scene where Tatsuhiro Satou and Kaoru Yamazaki converse about what galge games are really about and the different relationships that exist in such games such as the-girl-next-door type, the childhood-friend type, the little-sister type, etc... and how its design appeals to a fantasy of the audience, gaining intimacy that is often lost on the typical NEET or hikikomori. One Room is very relevant to that world. I believe for those genuinely craving female interaction without fuss, depth, human complexity; when one does not think too highly of the self- having sweet-intending, unintimidating and somewhat ditzy girls in your proximity (that remove the social concept of 'the male does the chasing' e…

The basic premise seems decent, supposedly being a "first-person" anime where characters talk to you about their day. The series however, fails at its most basic conceit before even getting to its other issues. First and foremost, the camera changes angles frequently, sometimes jumping behind the character and back to their front within seconds. Other times there are conventional establishing shots, shots where the viewer is clearly higher than they should be (one even being high up outside a window before teleporting back into the room). Not only does the show frequently violate the 180 degree rule, but half the time the camera appears to be handheld like some kind of Dogme film, which is funny since Dogme clearly forbids temporal and geographical alienation. The show's inconsistent visu…

This review includes spoilers. This is an anime where the watcher views the scenario from the main character's point of view. Through the season, he interacts with three girls that essentially fit into a stereotype. The first one is a girl next door, the next a little sister (only in anime is incest a stereotype lol), and the last one a childhood friend. The main character never says anything that the anime watchers can hear. Essentially the only thing you can do is focus on the girls. In my opinion its kind of odd you can't hear what the main character is saying, but I would say that's the only issue. The girls themselves don't really have any quirks. Perfect anime for guys who like fanservice that's wholesome.

So One Room is something completely different than any other anime series I have watched till this date. Let me start of by saying it is quite short anime and easy bingeable. It consists out of 12 episodes with each 4min in length. Unique about One Room is that the whole show is shown in the first person perspective. You the main protagonist, who moved to Tokyo for his job are confronted with 3 characters, your new neighbor Yui, your younger sister Natsuki and your old childhood friend and songwriter Moka. The anime also follows its category of slice of life and has a relaxing and calming feel, with quite smooth and again relaxing music. The characters are cute and enjoyable and that is pretty much all. Now in my opinion this show losses a huge amount of its potential being that it had a g…

First-ever review I am gonna be honest and say this. I only watched this for the ending theme because I play OSU! I didn't care about the plot as it was 4 minutes episode and was pretty boring. Every episode I was just waiting for the ending to come on. This show could have been watchable if it had a full runtime rather than a measly 4 minutes . And i didn't like the first person POV as it almost felt like playing a VN. Overall if you want to listen to the ending just watch a YT video instead of doing what i did and watch the anime and be bored.

Now the thing with One Room was just not appealing. Was the idea of having a first person anime a bad idea, no but was this poorly executed,100%. The art work isn’t bad and the sound wasn’t bad either. If I could recommend this for a good reason, than watch this anime if you’re looking for a 2-D girlfriend than this is the anime for you and if you read this and you’re very smart enough to read this, than don’t watch this anime. The first I had with is the fact it had to be that there was basically no other character except for the one for each route as it’s just your typical three male protagonists and the three heroines and other problem had to be the fact that the protagonists were just basically mute. Remember that if your looking for a 2-D girlfriend than this is the place and if you’r…

Honestly, I only watched this anime knowing I could finish it VERY quickly, considering the episodes are only 4 minutes long. Now, I don't wanna say that "I wasted my time with this anime." But I also don't wanna say "I really liked this anime either." To be honest, I don't really have a solid opinion of this anime. There were parts I thought were kinda cute, but most of the time it was just sorta cringe. This series doesn't really deserve a full review, so I'll be quick. STORY: 3/10. Boring, and it didn't make me actually feel like I was interacting with the girls. ART: 7/10. The art, to be honest, is nice. It's pretty, and smooth for the most part. But, it's a little bland. SOUND: 7/10. Not really much to say. There was music, voice acting, and sound effects. All sounded fairly okay.…

My first impression when I watched the anime is that: Oh, not bad, this reminds me of Seiren (a dating sim adapted anime) but much shorter and at a much faster pace. It's a series featuring just 3x4 four-minute episodes in which 30 seconds are taken for outro music, what can I really expect more? False! Says the producer of this anime Sakuma Takashi, as he stated "One Room is actually a unique, trailblazing show full of much deeper and subtle meaning", "something truly revolutionary, something that really digs deep into the human psyche. We thought we really hit it home with One Room, but not one person seems to get it.” While his ranting and criticism towards us viewers goes on and on: “I guess everyone is too used to watching ecchi garbage; they can’t put in the effort to think.” (then…

Watching this reminded me majorly two artworks the first one is "Iya na Kao sare nagara Opantsu Misete Moraitai" and the second one is "Crime and Punishment". It has genius usage of cinematography and dialog writing of "Iya na Kao sare nagara Opantsu Misete Moraitai" and high tempo, continuously getting more and more complex story usage of "Crime and Punishment". I was curious about every episode just before watching them. Character interactions were amazing. Many times it gets really touchy. I wouldn't predict seeing that much powerful emotions in a short anime. One Room is one of the hidden gems in long anime ocean. I consider myself lucky for discovering and enjoying One Room.

There are slight spoilers in this review, but not anything too specific, read at your own discretion. I will be reviewing this by each arc and then overall. Arc 1 // New neighbor, busty underclassman - 6/10 This arc is pretty easy-going and has a story. Overall average, but very nice art and happy ending. Arc 2 // Energetic, cheerful, and petite sister - 1/10 I am not a big fan of sister complex's much less petite figures. Not to mention the story is pretty lame and the ending is just ?? like ?? wasted 16 minutes of screentime for what?? Sister stuff, just not my cup of tea. Arc 3 // Busty childhood friend - 10/10 Loved this arc, absolutely loved it. The angles, the cleavage, the story, the piano, it was all quite enjoyable. Story: 5/10 Art: 10/10 Sound: 6/10 Character: 4/10 Enjoym…

Short review: Get any dating sim or "visual novel" for better results. This anime is just a dating sim / VN turned into anime by cutting out ANY dialog selections, you just see the animated scenes that follow your dialog selection. I see the only purpose of this anime is a preview or AD for a similarly named game. Where you probably can choose different options and go different routes with the girls. And lo and behold, such a game is coming out. From anime point of view, this is a collection of short stories of one guy and three girls in his life. The stories might be 4/10, they are extremely short and schematic and even sister's teasing is not totally revolting because "Okaerinasai, anata! Gohan wo taberu? Ofuro ni suru? Soretomo, wa. ta. shi?" (dinner, bath or me) is a Japanese meme…

first person anime, especially short ones, is something I have a hard time getting into if its goal is trying to tell a story. if it's like "Math with so-and-so" then I can enjoy it as I would a YouTube video, but with its story as the focus, it has to be REALLY good to work for me. does it? let's see... Art (7/10): going a little out of order, I think the art is pretty good. the backgrounds look good and the designs and quality are good. nothing fancy, but good work is good work. Animation (8/10): movements are fluid and the girls have a realistic movement to them. and a subtle detail at the end cards is that they somewhat move to create a small bit of depth. Sound (6/10): the voice acting and music are good. there maybe one or two songs here, and one of them is only notable due to sto…

Im the kind of person who hears something is bad, and instantly goes watch it because half of the time, its not as bad as people make it seem, with One Room, at least for me, this was the case. One Room offers us 3 short stories with us, the spectator in the point of view of the protagonist, each one lasting 4 episodes of 4 minutes. 2 of them being about us helping the girls reach a goal, which for me were mostly enjoyable. Yes, there is incredibly awkward and unecessary camera angles and scenes, yes the POV concept could have been handled in a way better way, but overall 2 out of these 3 stories were pretty decent in my opinion, mostly the 3rd one. I have seen animes with 12 or more episodes of 24 minutes fail to tell a simple story. One Room, with all its downs, manages to do an averag…

One Room is one of those animes the has a very specific audience and, people like me, doesn't have the need for this. Basically, this anime is for lonely boys that need some attention of 2D girls. I'm not here to bash on someone's need, everybody have some kind of need. Actually, I came to this anime ready to give it a 4, just with mentality that this anime is a terrible idea and to laugh off with the scenes. And I did, kinda. With the first two characters , I, of course, made fun of. The stories where silly, the ecchi scenes were overly exploited and the comedy was really meh. (I hate that there's an implied romance with your little loli sister and out of all the characters she has the most ecchi and fetished scenes.) But the last character, Aoshima Moka, the story and the music (yes t…

Honestly walked into this after hearing about it, thinking it was going to be one huge mess. But it's actually surprisingly not? The characters are cute, and all have realistic goals, attitudes, and personalities. Which is a great thing to see. The art is really great to, with how the visuals can be stunning, along with the sound be really fitting and nice too. From the ending theme, to the sounds within scene by scene as the show went on. But even with that, it just felt like an awkward mess at times lol. Some of the camera angles were really not needed, along with in general parts of the story just being real weird. Overall, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. But still an awkward cringy fest.

Holey! Yet a first person Anime that cures much of my daily stress and depression that brought me one second thought... "Why don't I have these kind of girls (people) in my daily life?" Oh, well! People work around in mysterious ways and we might not have seen this coming... or would come soon. The art and music is nice. It really blends well throughout the show. The art though reminds me of Kantoku-- ahh yes! He is the illustrator. Kudos Kantoku on that one... love the art style and everything! These girls surely showed different expressions and feelings... even their reactions on pervert stuff. Too bad imouto killed the book... R.I.P. Book.

I’ll just say it from the start: this anime fulfills a certain niche. Is it bad? Sure. But is it trash? Well… yes, for varying reasons. Of course, with every episode lasting only four minutes, I found myself done with the anime before I could even start hating it. Its length probably kept me from giving it an awful score. I think that the biggest problem with this anime is not awful—it’s just exceedingly mediocre. One Room is generic. The art, the story, the characters—we’ve seen it already in other anime except other anime did it better. What we get is a montage of cliches squished into four minute episodes. Just look at the camerawork. Every shot is fan-service. Watch a random episode (or don’t, because you really shouldn’t). Chances are, the camera’s right in the middle of girl curv…
