Pupa

Pupa

Introduction

Abandoned by their abusive parents and with only each other to depend on, siblings Utsutsu and Yume Hasegawa find themselves led astray by beautiful red butterflies that have appeared in their world. Unbeknownst to them, these crimson winged heralds trumpet the beginning of a cannibalistic nightmare—a mysterious virus known as Pupa is about to hatch. After succumbing to the full effects of Pupa, Yume undergoes a grotesque metamorphosis into a monstrous creature with an insatiable desire for flesh; Utsutsu, on the other hand, is only partially affected, gaining remarkable regenerative powers instead. Reaffirming the resolve to keep the promise he made to himself years ago, Utsutsu is willing to sacrifice everything in order to always be there for his precious little sister. Pupa tells the story of a loving brother's desperate struggles to save his sister while protecting the world from her uncontrollable hunger. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Are you mentally ill? Are you interested in mukbangs? Are you trying for something fresh? This might just be your perfect choice. In this horror stupidity, you will get to witness red bloody flesh splashing everywhere, on the wall, ceiling, grass, anywhere you name it. This is just purely trash so there's nothing much to talk about it. It doesn't have a single plot that is presentable for me to at least give some opinions on it. My advice, if you are eager to waste 48 mins on the internet, sure here you go. For those who wants a short gore film that has a decent story with lots of lots of gore elements, I'm afraid you have entered the enemy's territory. Gave this a 2, because they are surprisingly good at making munching sounds, honestly they should consider to start a mukbang asmr channel…

Pros: -4 minute episodes vice the regular 20 minute episode. Cons: -Literally Everything else. This show is exactly what Miyazaki meant when he said "Anime was a mistake. It's nothing but trash". Please find whoever created this abomination of a show and send them to the gulag for all eternity. The OP sucks. The ED sucks. The show sucks even harder. Just because of this show, I'm now bumping School Days up to a score of 2. Thank you for your attention to this matter. --END OF REVIEW-- THIS EXTRA TEXT IS JUST TO FIT ENOUGH WORDS IN MY REVIEW TO PUBLISH IT TO MAL. DON'T READ ANY FURTHER. THERE IS NOTHING OF VALUE TO BE GAINED.

The manga is a complete story which this anime rushes through the beginning of cramming in most of the main scenes. None of what it introduces has any payoff as it ends abruptly as nothing more than manga-bait. The manga itself isn't much better having pretty much all of the same problems haphazardly overextending itself across a bunch of noncharacter non-plotlines while stretching out the 1-note plot. There's nothing really in the anime that would spoil the manga since it's more or less the same random progression of events for what it does show. If you don't enjoy the anime, then you likely won't enjoy the manga either, the resolutions it provides are all boring and pointless. This anime is an extremely boring 1-note waste of time nonstory. The generic nonimagery and gore is boring, lo…

Oh. My. Fucking. God. To be frank, those four words sum up this show better than anything else could ever hope to. It has cannibalism, very odd almost incestuous moments between the main characters, has a "plot" that goes literally ***NOWHERE*** and ends on a episode that they pulled out their asses to explain... drumroll please... seriously... HOW THE MAIN GIRL GOT HER ***FUCKING*** HAIR PIN. I'm not even kidding, also one episode is literally just 3 minutes of the girl eating her brother... and it's really fucking horrible. So, why am I recommending this? Well I'll certainly tell you something, you watch this and you'll never rate anything lower than a 1 again! In other words, by watching something this GOD AWFUL you can enjoy other things far more! Also I'm convinced whoever fucking ca…

Throughout all the hours I spent watching anime, I have never experienced such greatness. This anime transcends your classic anime tropes and brings a whole new light to the horror genre. After finishing this masterpiece, I had to sit down and reconsider all the other things I could have done in those 48 minutes. I was also forced to skip lunch as I couldn't bring myself to consume food after witnessing such greatness. While a lot of people would move on after watching this I certainly can't as it made a very large impact on me as a person and as me as an older brother. This anime showed me the importance of family bonds and how I have many things to learn from Utsutsu. Overall, this anime truly was a hidden gem that changed my entire viewpoint on anime and exceeded my known boundaries to…

This is less of a review and more along the lines of advice. Pupa, the anime, is really bad. Each episode is only four minutes long and the entire show is almost forthy minutes long. The only redeeming quality of the entire anime is the art style and soundtrack. With only two positives, I'll shortly say that I do like the art style the anime has, and the music is pretty good too. Thing is, other than the opening song titled "Pupa", and the ending song, the entire soundtrack is unreleased. What I really want to tell people is.. Read the manga. The anime severely cut out A LOT of scenes and content, the first episode alone has three or four missing scenes that are in the manga. And it simply becomes worse the more you watch, by episode two and three, there are so many scenes removed that th…

I randomly discovered this anime, and I don't think it's that bad, but it obviously isn't good either. I was very shocked by the gore tbh. I didn't read the synopsis or anything like that so, that completely caught me off guard. Another thing I didn't really like was the fact the episodes were only 4 minutes. I wasn't sure about the anime starting, but I honestly think it had potential. It's got a good story line (to me at least). I heard that the manga makes more sense than the anime so, I plan on reading that to make sense of whatever the heck that anime was supposed to be. P.S. I don't know about other people, but to me some of the scenes seemed kind of incest-ly and it's gross.

~~ A HellBent Half Arsed Review™ ~~ Overall Rating: 2/10 Okay, let me preface this review by saying that I have no idea wtf I just watched. It's really, really hard to review what essentially amounts to a 40 minute coked up fever dream but I'll give it my best (and also this is a revision much later so idk how trustworthy past me is, but I'm not rewatching it) ----- Reason for watching? ----- Gigguk innit ----- Reason for finishing? ----- Morbid curiosity. ------- Story: 1/10 ------- What story, har har. Seriously though, jokes aside, I genuinely have no idea what happened. There's a very simple premise that's kinda cool, then people appear and there's very little if any explanation as to who they are, then stuff just kinda happens. ------- Art: 6/10 ------- This might seem high to you,…

Wow, she seems like a sweet, and loving girl. Hope nothing bad happens to her… okay um she’s eating someone. Okay their dead. Okay not sure why she just gorged out that guys eye. Wait, where did she get that severed head? Why is she eating the head… okay. That is every episode, and honestly you just start to grow numb. But hey, I’ve got good things to say. The Music Watching Pupa I was shocked by the quality of the music because it is awesome. That and the voice actors know what their doing, and are perfectly suited. The Visuals Animation in this anime is great. Never did I find myself disappointed, because it’s smooth, fits the anime, and looks great. Characters Personally, I loved the characters in this anime, their likable, and have great design. Personal experience Not sure why,…

Pupa is quite possibly the worst anime that I have ever seen. Actually, scratch that, Pupa might actually be the worst media in general that I have ever consumed. The art style is not the worst that I have ever seen, but it has to be close. The animation appears rushed, as does the voice acting throughout the show. It's almost as if the entire creation of the show was an absolute farce with zero passion or effort put into production. I can only assume the budget of the ONA was about equal to a tuna sandwich, because it genuinely looks horrid. The characters are extraordinarily forgettable, outside of the strange incest thing, and truthfully I cannot even recall their names. At the very least the plot and backstory is rather interesting, although I personally would not subject myself to the…

Im gonna make it short. My eyes witnessed many gore anime without any problems. This one actually made my eyes open wide and my skin crawl out of my body. The story and backstory are just basic and boring, basically just a reason to justify these horrible actions. The scenes are so incest that they are incomfortable. The art style isn't that bad, but nothing incredible. The audio of certain parts sounds like it was made in an anti-bomb shelter. The characters are so undevelloped that they look like bots with commands. They do the most average respond to hardships. So...Yea, discusting anime. I don't think anyone would personnaly enjoy this, but if you want to watch a short disturbing anime that will make you want to throw your pc out the window, enjoy.

This doesn't need to be something that's watched. I'd say the only positive to it is that it was quick to get through. The story is very bare-bones, and even still, so much isn't elaborated on. I've seen from reading other reviews that some say that the manga is marginally better. I'd say maybe that is the better way to consume the story but I'm not about to go out of my way to find out. The biggest thing I hated about the show was how the cannabilism scenes between Utsutsu and Yume were shown. The cannibalism was shown in a voyeuristic, almost erotic sort of light. The cannibalism in the story is already supposed to be disturbing, why did it also need to have "Sweet Home Alabama" elements added in as well?! What purpose did that serve?? Don't watch this.

Now, I am a huge fan of horror anime and the story seemed more than interesting. Siblings that only have each other? Mysterious red butterflies? Cannibalistic nightmare? Yes, please! But then I finished the first episode, the second, the third... and before the fourth ended, I started writing this. Quickly I found out that the only thing that worked well was Maria's character. Oh, and the bears. I liked the bears. I am a stubborn person. So, despite seeing all the "not recommended" reviews and commentators who said how they regret wasting their time on this, I still kept it on my list and decided to give it a chance. I was determined, thinking The People were wrong. They weren't (I wanted a spoiler-free review but... it contains spoilers!) Slightly incestuous, awfully stupid, and short.…

Brother, to be honest, this series traumatized me a bit because of how it is, a child really shouldn't watch it. But to be honest, the idea is interesting, it's a shame that we don't have the continuation and the end of it, or is it in the manga? Story, Characters, Animation, Soundtrack: Story: The story is quite interesting but far too strange, I can't understand how someone could think of something like that, and it's also unfinished, too bad here I really wanted to see what happens next, or to explain many things to us. Those who made this series left us with many questions after the end of the evening. 5/10 Characters: The characters are drawn extremely well, but their personality is way too weird for us, or rather for me. Especially his sister, that brother, I can't take my head off.…

What is this? I've never watched something so awful. I really feel like throwing up. Don't watch this. There's no story, not really. And I feel like the creators wanted to use cannib*lism as something erotic. It definitely gives you mixed feelings since you can't help but feel like is something that has to appeal you, but yet you feel like throwing up. The only good thing is that every episode last 4 minutes only. *Thank God* I will not recommend this, but if you feel like you want to be traumatized; go ahead. This is definitely for you. Watch under your own responsibility lol.

If you didn't read the manga, then this anime is really NOT worth watching AT ALL. But if you did, and you just want to see the characters come to life, and if you're willing to go through a terribly executed anime then you might be interested. This anime, is TERRIBLE. It's executed terribly, horribly paced, and also lazily animated. I do like the opening song though I will give it that, and only that. If you're interested in the story this is NOT THE PLACE TO BE, DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS, I highly recommend checking out the manga instead! The manga is paced so much better, has more plot, more dimension, and has all the story (obviously). Yes, it has some very weird shit (the incest themes, and other weird stuff) but overall was an interesting read that left me feeling like what the fu…

Like most people here i was lured by the trailer, i followed the articles saying the studio struggled to find a TV network to air this show, i got hyped for the possibility of a show that really pushed the limit of this underdeveloped genre in anime, and got this crushing disappointment of a dumpster fire of a result. This anime always comes up in discussions as the only one I'd rate as 1/10 and for good reason. Us horror fans have been long abused, I'm sure just mentioning the Ito Junji Collection is enough to cause PTSD flashbacks to some. The Uzumaki project has yet to announce a release date, there have been few noteworthy horror anime to this day despite the growth of the industry. Perhaps with the collaboration of western streaming services bypassing airing regulations and allowing f…

Me and my friend Lara watched this today and we were literally speechless I expected it to be something similar to the Fruits of the Earth, but I was very surprised to learn that this has nothing to do with fruits and, by God, neither with the earth. I think this shouldn't even exist on Earth, but there are worse things in the world (needs further research) It was fun while it lasted, the best scenes were with the black woman because she seemed normal but I got really screwed towards the end, they were aiming for something new/abstract but I have to say I'd rather watch this again than any new Marvel movie (And Elfen Lied) Before use, carefully read the instructions on the medicine. For information on indications, precautions and side effects, ask your doctor or pharmacist. (recommend tak…

ok to be clear the reason i feel this fails is not the content as if giving time i feel it could of atleast had some people who liked it but this was put in what i feel was literally the worst time span that could of been picked a one episode thirty minute episode would of been better then this the 4 minute result in it feeling completely choppy and disjointed which prevents it from achieving a single thing it cant do anything with the characters only mild hints of story can be seen which is why i gave it a 2 because i atleast felt there was some potential if literally any other time scale was picked as the bits of psychological themes that miraculously made it through what i can only call the biggest hack job in anime history got me a bit interesting but sadly there just no way in hell to…

You know that "pupa" means "butt" in Polish? And it's fitting, because this anime is ASS. I mean, as a visual novel fan, I'm very much aware of various f-d up niches, including straight up sexualized gore – guro. After completing Maggot Baits, you don't get shocked or grossed out that much, no matter how much a piece of media tries to be brutal and edgy, and you gain a pretty good feel of what a wide range of stuff people can get off to. This anime though... I'm still not sure who it is meant to appeal to. I see glimpses of interesting artstyle and extremely exploitative, but not completely substance-free story of the original. I see scenes that could be considered extreme for anime standards. But it's all completely neutered by the 4 minute episodes and mediocre production values. After…
