I went into this cold; I’ve maybe heard the title before, but ultimately knew nothing about it other than that eye-catching Netflix blurb. It is the most delightful surprise I have encountered in a long time. Shockingly not terrible queer representation. Amazing dynamic of a tsundere couple that haven't realized yet that they're dating. A barrage of unwanted suitors coming for each of them. Everyone in this show is insane in some way. It's also portrays adolescent immaturity in a way that feels startlingly real and without being too annoying. I love it.
Also helps that the English dub is quite good.

Note: This review is kinda just a compilation of thoughts from other reviews that I just happen to share.
The show has an interesting idea. In fact, that was one of the two reasons I even watched it (second, was that it's MAPPA.)
But the writers REALLY needed to come up with better ideas. There were probably only 2 instances where the whole gender swap thing was actually helpful. In every episode, Ryoga or Ranma just NEED to transform for whatever reason. Everywhere they go, there is a water bucket.
Then, there is the fact that side characters don't realize that the two Ranmas are the same. Interestingly enough, there wasn't (at least, from memory) a moment in which the characters were like, "Where'd Ranma go?". (Not a side character, but in a similar situation,) Akane doesn't know that R…

I remember I was ecstatic when I first saw news of the remake, and I decided to put off watching it till more episodes came out. I started (and finished) watching the two seasons of the remake yesterday.
I was worried at first at how the voice acting was going to be, but I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that most of the main cast is the same as it was from the original release twenty years ago. That was in my opinion one of the best things that could've happened to this remake. They make the characters come alive, and it's a very fun watch! I still remember myself almost two decades ago sending fan-mail to the writer asking for more ranma!
This anime is just peak beauty with its faithfulness to the original anime, I am beyond ecstatic that the main cast has been re-cast here, an…

If you have not watched this yet, just go and watch it. I finished it in one day on 13 December 2025.
Thanks to Netflix. I think this is one of the best reboot series they have done. The original Japanese series ran from 1989 to 1992. Now watching it again in Hindi with fresh animation quality feels really good.
Ranma is the name of the main character. Why the title says one half, you will understand in the first episode itself. The anime is very funny. I do not know how the humor felt in 1989, but if they kept it the same, then I can say the comedy still works today. In some scenes, you will actually laugh.
In short, it is a rom com anime. Honestly, find me a bride like that too. Possessive but caring, even if she kicks me four times a day. I really love this anime, so I give it 9 out…

Ranma ½ is a remake that I wasn’t expecting a whole lot from, but has consistently left me incredibly satisfied at the end of each episode. It’s been nearly a decade since I read the manga, and yet this anime immediately brought back fond memories of why I fell in love with the series in the first place. The comedic energy is quick-witted and punchy enough to keep the pacing brisk, yet still allowing you to vibe in the moment, and the sprawling cast of lovably frustrating oddballs keeps the episodic stories fresh and exciting. I was legit hooked by the chemistry between Ranma and Akane, with the ending of episode 8 having me completely glued to the screen, and the clever situational timing for Ranma’s gender swaps adds in so many levels of romantic complexity with other characters that it…

The best remake of 2024/2025.
My joy hasn't left my face even after watching a little of the old anime.
A year later, unfortunately, I didn't write a review of the first season, but I just finished the second season, and yes, it was absolutely fantastic.
The story of Ranma might be different, and the old anime didn't finish it. I thank MAPPA for producing these two seasons with such a wonderful production, even though there are some alterations.
Yes, it's excellent. I personally used to watch it on an Arabic channel called Spacetoon, and about a year ago, I watched about 13 episodes of the old version. I was thinking of reading the manga, which has 400 chapters. God willing, after high school, I'll dedicate time to the manga and watch the old version and the corresponding movies.
And…

My first experience with a work from Takahashi Rumiko.
First of all, I haven't seen the original anime so take this with a grain of salt but I really got the feeling that MAPPA did a stellar job with this remake. From start to finish it's just really immaculate on the vibes which I found to be the strongest thing of the show. It's very old school (80s Japan) but looks very modern at the same time. And I'm not just talking about the iconic character designs but also smaller things like including sound effects in the visuals and while sometimes feeling outdated, keeping all the old tropes that were very popular in the pre-2000s in this remake too. Overall I think the show is a visual treat.
The premise is obviously very simple too, revolving around the titular main character getting into a…

In my opinion, Ranma 1/2 is an anime filled with nothing but trashy comedy and not at all funny. I didn't laugh at this anime at all. If you did, you probably have a very poor sense of humor. Almost all the characters feel stupid, and there's no meaningful development. There are many cliché scenes, such as the sudden appearance of a random character challenging Ranma to a fight based on his "skills," while the MC innocently and foolishly accepts it. For example, the ice skating scene is utterly absurd.
If you're hoping for romance, you'd better abandon your plans. The romantic element is barely noticeable; instead, it feels empty and forced. The character relationships are filled with angry girls who solve problems with punches, which are somehow considered funny, even though they're clea…

Classic Ranma 1/2 from ages past was known for a few things: slapstick humor, martial arts, striking character designs and with generous ecchi moments. This remake has most of those except for one major thing though: its strange aversion to anatomy. It might be going for the PG side of censorship which I am not really fond of but there's actually something else that this version did better: PACING.
Classic Ranma is loooong but it had a lot going for it nostalgia aside. It is entertaining, the characters are distinct and varied, the goddamn boppy opening and endings, and I had the biggest confused boner of my life as a kid coz of Ranma-chan. After a rewatch years ago however, I noticed something about the classic that I never noticed a kid: there are scenes that drag like hell. Some fight…

I wasn't sure what to think of the 2024 remake of Ranma ½, but honestly, I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. I remember catching glimpses of the original years back, but this time around, I actually watched it through. What I enjoyed most was that the show doesn't try to tell some huge, heavy, long-term story. Instead, it's episodic, and the majority of attention is actually just on Ranma and Akane slowly developing their relationship as they sort of trudge through all the chaos that's around them. That was really great for me. They definitely annoy each other, but you can tell there's something genuine starting to form between them, and that adds this wonderful little amount of heart to all the jokes.
The humor is actually the highlight here. Ranma's curse is funny…

It seems the wave of remakes has finally arrived in the Japanese animation industry. Not that such productions are entirely new to this vital industry, as we've had good examples since the 2000s, such as the renowned Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009-2010), from the studio Bones. However, it's notable that, in recent years, the revisiting of many classic—and highly successful—animes has become increasingly common. On the one hand, this is positive, as it allows these iconic productions to adopt the current seasonal release format, rather than the nearly uninterrupted weekly episodes. On the other hand, there's a valid concern that this could become a vicious cycle, much like what happens in film and video games. But that's a topic for another, more appropriate time, so for now, let's…

Ranma 1/2 (2024) is a 8/10 for nostalgia fans like me but the comedy in some parts doesn't aged well.where it's trying to be fun like in introduction of ryoga but i think it is a good anime where the characters live there fullest if you ignore some scenes then you feel the charm of ranma1/2
The story has well known plot of two teenagers getting married due to their parents decision but it is a sitcom and it explore more into characters life, decision, behavior and it justify their actions. It is a good and chaotic show
Which leaves a calming effect

A Fresh Yet Nostalgic Masterpiece
I started watching Ranma ½ years ago, and returning to it through the remaster feels like rediscovering an old friend with a fresh look. The remaster doesn’t just clean up the visuals, it revives the heart of the series in a way that feels respectful to the original while making it accessible for modern audiences.
The updated color palette, character designs, and overall art style are absolutely stunning. They’ve managed to preserve the charm of the original while adding a fresh vibrancy that makes each scene pop. The comedic timing and pacing are tight, energetic without being overwhelming. It’s fast-paced but never loses the emotional core or comedic brilliance that made the series so beloved.
What I especially appreciated is how the remaster balances…

Very wholesome with cute animation, interesting characters and funny humor.
Only really disappointed by the blatant and subtle sexism.
Blatant sexism includes actively saying/ implying that women are weaker and less capable than men.
Subtle sexism shows in the the case that Akane - a really awesome and strong female lead - got more and more useless as the show progressed.
So many of the battles she lost she should have easily been able to handle.
Otherwise very wholesome and interactions between the betrothed could be really cute. Though a love story between two tsunderes is chaotic. XD
Cast is unique and characters will surprise you. Definitely enjoyed this re-edition of Ranma 1/2.

I watched this is a beautifully animated show by Mappa. This is the newest Ranma 1/2 show. I never got watching more than a few episodes of the older Ranma 1/2 shows as it was too weird for my taste. The comedy didnt land with me then. Now that I have seen the remake I do like it... more. Is this as good as the original? I honestly dont remember that much. But I did like it more than when I tried the original a long time ago. This is just better animated. The show is funny but the story is very unserious. The characters are likable and I look forward to season 2.

Old-school getting remastered. You can tell that Ranma ½ isn’t something freshly created—the humor and overall setting clearly reflect its 80s/90s origins, and that’s exactly what makes it so enjoyable. It’s refreshing and nostalgic at the same time.
The anime blends comedy, ecchi, and action elements, and honestly, they’re all well executed. The updated art style looks great—it meets modern standards while still preserving that classic old-school vibe.
The story moves at a slow pace, with a clear build-up toward a second season. That means not all plot threads are resolved, which can feel a bit unsatisfying—but it is what it is.
Overall, would I recommend this anime?
If you enjoy old-school humor and the pacing typical of anime from the 80s/90s, then yes. The refreshed visuals look gre…

Ranma 1/2 is emphatically not to be watched in any situation where you are not alone !
More seriously, this is a show which is certainly not for everybody. I found it quite decent but there are many impediments that certain types of people will not be able to hurdle which I will get into later on.
As for the basic aspects of the show they are very good. As with all good anime’s there is an Iconic opening and good music. Character design is varied and excellent, and there are few filler characters. Everybody is different and memorable. The art is very crisp, modern and beautiful. It’s very pleasant to look at the vast majority of times. There is this occurrence where the art style will suddenly switch to a much more stylistic or different one to emphasise action or things of the like. T…

i watched this show twice in hopes of making a proper, enticing review. but i don't think i possess the pretty words to will you into watching it
so instead, i'll just tell you what it made me feel — spoiler free — and let you decide for yourself if you'd like to feel something similar
here's the bottom line, potential reader: i like this show. i like it a whole bunch. it made me feel happy, and it made me laugh. several times! whilst being alone in my room! at 5 am! it's great!
much like many great pieces media, it timewarps you back to a period of your life that was miserable in real life, and gives you a welcome little 'what if' ponderstorm. i wish my schooldays were that colorful. i wish i took martial arts during my formative years. i wish i talked to a girl i liked. i wish i was e…

Ranma is back baby, rewired and repackaged for the zoomers.
I think this is a great remake of the original. The vibrant colours and the fast pace fit the story way better.
It still has the same flaws the original had, no doubt. This isn’t an attempt to “fix” the original, but rather present it in a new light for the constantly renewing audience. (And for Takahashi Rumiko’s wealth to get bigger, if that’s even still possible). Anything that I could say about this one would apply to the original as well, and that one has already been talked into oblivion.
Even though I watched it dubbed and didn’t really feel like it, the original Ranma was the first anime I ever saw way back in 2014, and this remake is the first anime that I ever watched beginning to end in raw Japanese (or as a friend…

Well would you look at that! I just looked at my calendar, and it says April 29th, 2032. So I guess it's finally time to talk about this. About five-ish years ago, I made this incredibly long and virtriolic review of the original Ranma ½ from 1989. And when I say "five-ish years ago," I mean 2020. I was making a reference to something in the beginning. It's not important. I haven't fully reread that review in years, I just remember the strong emotions I felt while writing it. Since then, I've kind of mellowed out. Ranting and raving about anime and manga is a little exhausting. It feels very old hat. I haven't encountered anything recently that would bring out that same level of fervor within me. I decided to come back to Ranma ½ for a few reasons. One, I have history with this series. Two…
