Space Brothers

Space Brothers

Introduction

On a fateful summer night in 2006, Mutta Nanba and his younger brother Hibito witness what they believe to be a UFO flying toward the Moon. This impressing and unusual phenomenon leads both siblings vowing to become astronauts, with Hibito aiming for the Moon and Mutta, convinced that the eldest brother has to be one step ahead, for Mars. Now an adult, life hasn't turned out how Mutta had pictured it: he is diligently working in an automotive company, whereas Hibito is on his way to be the very first Japanese man to step on the Moon. However, after losing his job, Mutta is presented with an unexpected opportunity to catch up to his younger brother when the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency, commonly known as JAXA, accepts his application to participate in the next astronaut selection. Despite self-doubts about his prospects, Mutta is unwilling to waste this chance of a lifetime, and thus embarks on an ambitious journey to fulfill the promise made 19 years ago. Oh boy, you wouldn't expect an anime series to be this realistic. On a broader level, it's a story about two brothers whose dream is to become astronauts and one day set foot on the Moon. That's all I’ll say about the storyline—I don’t want to spoil too much. Just know it’s worth your time. The series does an incredible job of depicting the emotions and obstacles involved in becoming an astronaut. On top of that, it’s grounded in reality. The story references real people, events, how the mission operates and technology related to space exploration. From legends like Yuri Gagarin and Neil Armstrong, to the International Space Station, the Lunar Rover, Jets T-38 and the Orion spacecraft used in NASA's real Artemis mission—you’ll definitely learn a lot about space from this series. :) Beyon…

If you're looking for a neverending, light-hearted slice-of-life about pursuing and training for space, this might be the anime for you! If you are looking for the day-to-day life of actual space activities, this is NOT the anime for you. Space Brothers is about the journey to becoming an astronaut through trials that the real astronauts might have gone through, outlining some authentic experiences, risks and sacrifices along the way. It frames itself as an inspiring journey so that you too may undergo the trials to become an astronaut someday. The comedy of the series was okay (4/10) but fades and doesn't do enough to carry it through the lengthy recaps and flashbacks you may see 3 to 10 times and overall glacial story pace. The characters (5/10) are adequate. The music (5/10) contains…

Story - 10 | Art - 6 | Characters - 10 | Enjoyment - 10 | Overall - 9 / 10 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Review - Space Brothers is one of my favorite anime of all time. It's an incredible piece of media that really grounds itself in the space science genre and really takes the time to elaborate on the lengthy processes by which a normal person becomes a fully-fledged astronaut. The story follows the main character Nanba Mutta as he embarks on a journey to become a JAXA / NASA astronaut. His journey from unemployed automobile engineer to astronaut feels incredibly real and while you can probably guess the outcome of his journey early on, I'd wager the true spectacle of Space Brothers comes from the journey itself. The early arc…

Space brothers is just amazing. For me is easily a 10 because my dream is to become an astronaut when I was 8-9 and now I'm 20.This anime make me love mutta so much because he is like me in personality and about the dream, generally change my life and make me love the space even more. The story was like in real life about the astronauts life so it's super hard. The Art style was ok,it released in 2012 so yeah the art was ok for me and fit the anime very much. This series is not for everyone because it's about space, and humans who become astronauts so if somebody doesn't like space and stuff like that he will not like this type of anime, but give it a try listen to me.So yeah that's all Space brothers change me so much especially mutta because we are kind of similar,so yeah I recommend it for su…

I went into this anime expecting a comedy, since that's the genre it's tagged with. However this is not a comedy anime, you might have a laugh at every 5th episodes but don't expect constant comedy each episode.. For the anime itself, it's very slow paced, the characters are a bit bland aswell. it's not even an anime about space either but about going to space, as in preparation and training. I also dislike their flashback/think back way of telling stories. You'd get constant recaps in the middle of an episode whenever MC completes a goal or think back about something you litterally just saw a few episodes ago, it adds to the slow pace. For some good things, i like the space theme and despite being a bit outdated they stay somewhat accurrate to the real nasa, you might learn a few things…

Space Brothers is an anime series about two brothers who both dream of becoming astronauts and going to space. The story follows them as they work towards their dream, and it also explores the themes of friendship, determination, and hard work. I think it is a really heartwarming and inspiring series, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for an uplifting anime to watch. The series is a really well-made that has a lot of heart, humor, and emotional moments. I enjoyed watching both main characters grow and learn throughout the series, and I like how their journey is not just about going to space, but also learning life lessons and becoming better person. The story also touches on some interesting scientific topics, and it is really inspiring to watch. All in all, I think i…

Space Brothers is an exceptional anime that takes its viewers on a journey through space exploration and human ambition. The story revolves around two brothers, Mutta and Hibito, who have a passion for space and a dream to become astronauts. Hibito, the younger brother, fulfills his dream and becomes an astronaut, while Mutta, the elder brother, faces a setback in his career and ends up working in an automotive company. The anime beautifully portrays the struggles and sacrifices that the brothers make to achieve their goals. The characters are well-developed and the relationships between them are heartwarming. The bond between the two brothers is especially endearing, as they support each other through thick and thin. The relationship between the two brothers, Mutta and Hibito, is at the…

"A Big bro should always be ahead of his little brother" Says "Nanba Mutta" who promised to go to Mars to his little brother "Nanba Hibito" who dreamed to go to the Moon. But Mutta couldn't keep up his promise. While Hibito was taking one last step to reach the moon & was going to create history as the "Japan's First Astronaut on Moon", Mutta was fired from his profession, crying in his room and he had to blame no one but himself for abandoning his promise. Being a big brother/older sibling is a tough thing. While many like to make fun of their younger siblings by that "I'm OlDeR ThaN YoU" card, older siblings have to be role models or inspirations for their younger siblings, and that's the hard thing. It's even harder when you have a younger sibling more talented, more welcomed and more a…

As I mentioned in the manga review, this anime deserves a lot more attention than it has had so far. Everything, from the story to the characters, is so well balanced and portrayed with a relaxed yet exciting narrative pace: sometimes funny, sometimes exciting, sometimes touching, sometimes frustrating; all the emotions that the protagonists and the characters around them feel are so realistic that even those who follow their stories can only feel them in turn. A truly complete story, which involves you and takes you inside, leads you to cheer on characters chasing their dreams. And there are so many characters in this story, but not a single one of them is left behind: each has its role and its own importance and of each of them we come to know thoughts, motivations, feelings, desires, dr…

Quick review with big super spoil !! - at the beginning the story evolved quite fast and you'll think "wow 99ep , it's gonna be a wonderful adventure who will end on Mars ... or the Moon at least ... very far from the control room... SIC - after a very good start, one of the most promising, around ep 21, you'll start to think, " there's way to much the same flashback " but it's ok ! and the story start to spend to much time on support characters, and then more boring drama on support character, if fact you start to wonder is the Mutta is the main character of the show and it getting worst and worst. like it getting stuck in mud and literally go nowhere !!! but you keep hope , thinking , it's ok still have 40ep to watch , something satisfying will happened and after all those selection an…

I will go straight to the point and talk about the ending and the latter part of the show. Skip this if you don't want any spoilers. It feels completely different from anime like eyeshield 21 where it ends earlier than the manga but at where it pays off the major build-up of the story. MC wants to surpass his rival the whole show. He did it. Then it ends. So the ending has a finality to it. For space brothers, it does resolve hibito's struggles. But it has this kind of lukewarm of an ending where the person who is going to space isn't someone the story has been building up to. Vince has no relation with any of the main characters. He barely knows mutta. His astronaut days hadn't been explored. We don't know what happened and what he did during the hard years of waiting. (What about the p…

For a show I initially dropped after a few episodes it did turn out to be great, it really is an inspirational story with great characters, there are some caveats to that though. The first being that show is nowhere near done and I didn't get to see what I wanted to see from the show, the manga isn't finished yet so it will be a while before I read it. The pacing can be a bit weird sometimes, from feeling very slow, to sometimes even feeling a bit fast as they skip past some events. It reuses a lot of OSTs, and this show annoys me with how it omits important details a lot only to flashback to it after moving past it, it is used to create suspense but it also killed it for me on some occasions. Now with that all being said this is still a great show and that mainly is from the characters,…

Character development and story were simply perfect. Made me become more interested in space too. Soundtracks are on the point and create the right emotions at the right times. This is an anime that will often make you laugh and leave less negative emotions and feelings on you. It is a "happy" anime. Sometimes, it will be the case that the anime leaves you crazily wondering about what will happen next, and therefore you can be forced to binge watch 6-8 episodes. The downsides (Note: Has a relatively minor spoiler!): Has a frustrating finish. The episodes after Hibito gets a P.D. (I think episode 76 onwards) is not very interesting. All of a sudden the focus of the main story drifts away from what has happened until that point. It is OK that we got to focus more on Hibito than Mutta but t…

First the positive side of things is the anime is very well researched , the amount of work put by the manga author is just incredible. Its amazing to see how realistic these depictions are. If you are not bothered by the story or characters and are just interested in space then this anime is for you. But as for me the anime is painfully average despite having good production and realistic depiction of NASA and how they work and look. The main problem for me lies in the story and character writing, which is way too one dimensional. The premise for the story is great where the main protagonist has his life ruined and is envious of his younger brother of becoming an astronaut. It seems like the main protagonist is very unlucky and has to face problems and every level and gets humiliated…

all i can say is this anime is really underrated . i'm actually in shock why this anime is not as popular as naruto , one piece etc . this show can be watched by any age group this show shows you the meaning of hard work , friendship and this also help develop scientific curiosity in young minds , i seriously regret not watching it sooner this anime is as close to real life as possible , for the person reading this just go watch this amazing show and stop reading any more reviews . the writers and the animators have done a lot of hard work to deliver such a masterpiece. to give you some fun facts : 1. to record the voice in space , they used a real astronaut's voice aboard international space station (ISS) 2. an asteroid is named after the writer chuyu koyoma . 3. most of the scienc…

It's been a very long time since I finished something and felt like writing about it, it's a nice feeling. Uchuu Kyoudai is very unique. The face of the anime to me is the combination of the natural disappointment and stagnation of adult life and the greatest delusional dream we all have at some point, becoming an astronaut. It threads a very thin line between crazy dream and harsh reality, you feel like everything showed in it is possible enough but at the same time it looks so far off it's not worth trying. It has a very clear message that you have to move if you want something and as humans it's impossible not to relate to it. So let's go point by point: -Art: It's ok, not the best animation possible but it holds up well enough when it matters. -Sound: Really really good, the soundtrac…

Space Brothers is a favorite of mine, a serious story aimed at a mature audience but peppered with comedy, a little romance, and epic moments all throughout. I relate to this so much, as a kid I was fixated on space and always wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up. Only when I got a bit older that I realized that being an astronaut is probably the hardest occupation on earth to get into, and anyone who made it is at the apex of human intelligence and are probably the most dependable people alive. The story follows the older brother who wanted to be an astronaut, only to be beaten to the punch by his charismatic and handsome younger brother, who is extremely intelligent but somewhat carefree in his demeanor. The older brother who is somewhat serious but lacks a bit of charisma found him…

Space Brothers is one of the greatest slice-of-life anime of all time and certainly one the most mature animated series that exist out there. A compelling story about two brothers and their promise to become astronauts one day, their struggles in lifes while pursuing their dream and a life lesson on what it means to honouring one's promises. This series is an endless source of inspiration, full of life lessons, profound teachings, presented in a genuine manner with the right amount of drama and comedy. This is a story for adults who have not forgotten to keep alive their own inner child through the course of time and for children with big, untamed and daring dreams!

Contains minor structural and narrative spoilers; All links used are for educational purpose. The main-error of Uchuu Kyoudai is its state of inconclusion. This series is a journey through the life of two brothers who are much different in appearance but share the same yearning for space, and the fascination for space shared by many. It features a plot derived from contrived storytelling, accurate implementation of nonfictional science (or extrapolating from current technology), and realistic development. If that were all, then it would be unconventional on these merits alone. Uchuu Kyoudai does not rest on a premise of realism, detailed accuracy, and logical progression. It delivers in execution and manages to wave a mundane journey filled with droughts together with lighthearted c…
