I watched the original a few months before watching this, completely unaware that this remake even existed. I had a lot of problems with the original that I documented in my review of it (https://myanimelist.net/reviews.php?id=611351). This remake fixed 2 of the major problems I had with the old series.
First, this show looks much better than the original. Anime seems to have had a glow up around 2010-2015 which was right before the original aired, so despite there only being a 14 year gap between the two the difference ended up being pretty stark. The original fell into the uncanny valley while this version looks as gorgeous as any other modern anime. This modern series also mostly fixed my specific issue of the original having a washed-out color palette that defaulted to grays and brow…

I really like how PASSIONE is treating my favorite work: Let's first talk about its animation, which falters in certain parts but delivers; the atmosphere also has its flaws but still delivers. The narrative remains exquisite, and Holo still has her captivating personality—I even feel her voice is much more loose. Bringing Ami back was a huge success, and it is appreciated because any other voice simply wouldn't suit Holo. Penkin, Aimer, and ClariS are not cheap at all, so there was a budget for the most important things. If we check the new staff for the second season, we will realize that PASSIONE has listened to the criticism and has hired artists and designers to improve the flaws this season has; I have a feeling it will be much better. What excites me the most is that the 17 main vol…

I'v watched & Liked several animes about Travel and unveiling The Bitter & sweet truth of world, Spice And wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf is one of A- Rank anime in my list (Not A or A+)
Why i didn't ranked it A or A+:
- sometimes it became very predictable, story goes without any engaging.
- animation of skipping scene from Episode Five was horrible.
- genre of This anime is adult cast Romance but i think romance scenes were weakest part of this anime.
but besides this three reasons in other elements done pretty well:
- the backstory and character's development of side characters was very good.
- Background art was captivating.
- Kevin Penkins Music was calm and beautiful.
- Aimer & Hana Hope performance was perfect.
8 OUT OF 10

This series is one of my favorite shows of all time, might be my favorite of all time.
Its the only anime i went out of my way to read all the lightnovels for since I loved the original show and we never seemed to get a season 3.
The show is a incredible story and is building such an amazing world, so many things I would love to see them put into animation. Story is rich in details and the back and forth between holo and lawrence is a feast to behold.
With this reboot we seem to have a hope on the horizon for continuation of the amazing story this is based upon. I personally do prefer the original artstyle a little more. But with them aiming to continue the story making a new foundation to build off from makes sense, and they wanted to modernize the show a little more for new people to g…

Anime is on a masterpiece level. Characters are well written, no big villains or enemies, has a realistic world in a medieval timeline. Compared to the first adaptation, which was releasted in the end of the 00's, it has a better design and adapts more content from its source, the novel. Not really dramatic, but it has good romance lines and is funny from time to time, because it has interesting character development and a journey to the goal of mcs. Great choice for the first anime to watch, and those who like anime about travelling and medieval style, with a small amount of drama.

Spice and Wolf has a very lovely and cozy vibe. The background music, atmosphere, and overall presentation are well done, and the bond between the two main characters is genuinely good. The animation is colorful and pleasant, which adds to the relaxing feel of the anime.
However, this is a very slow series. While it’s tagged as romance, there is barely any actual romance throughout the season. Most of the focus is on adventure, economics, and drama, with only light moments like jealousy instead of real romantic progression.
Because of this, the pacing felt boring to me. After around 18 episodes, the lack of romance and slow storytelling made it hard to stay fully engaged, to the point where I found myself multitasking while watching.
Overall, it’s a nice and well crafted anime, but it’s…

I recommend this anime to everyone who wants to see something different in terms of a medieval fantasy story. I believe Spice and Wolf was the precursor to this type of medieval setting with walled cities; isekais copied this kind of environment to tell their clichéd stories of magic, fantasy, and heroes.
Holo is one of the best-written characters in the industry. Her animal nature is never altered even when she takes human form for long periods, and her capricious personality adds a beautiful touch. Plus, she's not an all-powerful being—she knows it—and she accepts her mistakes while hating to make them because it wounds her pride. Those arguments with the protagonist are pure gold. I RECOMMEND SPICE AND WOLF 10/10

Perfect.
This anime delivered everything I wanted smart, engaging conversations, a slow-burn story with actual depth, and one of the best waifus I’ve ever seen in anime. Holo is incredible clever, playful, confident, but also layered with emotion. The chemistry between her and Lawrence is just chef’s kiss. I couldn’t ask for better dialogue or character dynamics.
I never watched the original 2008 version, so I can’t compare but this remake felt like the perfect balance of everything: beautiful animation, mature themes, economic strategy, romance, and world-building. Nothing felt overdone or lacking. It didn’t rely on action or drama to keep me hooked just pure character-driven storytelling done right.

The storytelling in this anime is truly well-crafted. I honestly recommend you just watch it. If you ask me why—well, the conflicts are exciting and sometimes unpredictable, every conflict draws you deeper into feelings of frustration, tension, and drama that are executed beautifully.
As someone who didn’t know the story beforehand and watched it for the first time, I can confidently say the drama is excellent. Normally, I enjoy action-packed and unique anime, but this one gave me a fresh sense of uniqueness and suspense. It’s no surprise that the light novel received awards. I can only imagine how great the story will be once it unfolds fully. With no spoilers and no idea where the plot might go, the experience is truly thrilling. My advice? Watch at least up to episode 4—feel the confli…

The Spice and Wolf remake was a success! The story of the wise she-wolf Horo and the well-traveled merchant Lawrence is back after more than 10 years, in a new visual guise, but with the same story that is once again captivating and entertaining, and you don't really know why. The characters and their mutual "nudges" work here again, although Horo's personality in the original series was perhaps more pronounced, but overall the characters are good. I must say that I didn't like the animation much at first, but I quickly got used to it and even though I like the original more and more, I don't have any problems with this one in the end. The plot itself is almost identical to the original series, but it's still entertaining and I was very surprised by the 4th chapter, which introduces us to…

This is a really difficult review for me to write, as the original Spice and Wolf is one of the first anime I watched, after having been introduced to the world of Japanese anime as a whole.
The original series hold a special place for me, and fill me with a lot of nostalgia. It was quite upsetting that we never got Spice and Wolf III, and instead had to wait a decade, just for the only real follow-up media to be a set of very short VR games. Personally, I wasn't prepared to purchase a VR headset just for 1-2 hours of gameplay.
So, when it was announced that Spice and Wolf would be getting more anime content, I was overjoyed, and, to be honest, I didn't even care too much that it was going to be a remake, rather than a continuation.
Now, that brings us to Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf.…

{This contains no major spoilers but does discuss the romance of the leads and its dynamics.}
“There is never a shortage of the unexpected when conducting business,” says I-only-invest-if-there's-something-to-gain Kraft Lawrence. Tell us about it! How could someone expect a wolf-girl to be hiding in his wagon as he left town?
This S&W starts, however, with an older Holo reading a bedtime story to a white haired child. This S&W is a remake of the 2008 2-season 25 episode original. They took it and made it better than ever. The art is lighter and more sophisticated. People are drawn with realistic elegance with soft coloring. Backgrounds are heavy in detail and layering, for instance, in a stone archway every single stone is differe…

this was a really great season of this cult classic series, this was one of the very first anime's I watched years ago and was quite happy to see it return after all those years. the story for 75% stays the same as the original with a few modifications, but in the final arc of the season they introduce new material never adapted in the original series. Artwork: 9/10 the animation is fresh but still captures the setting of the time period, and holo's wolf form is beautifully done. Soundtrack: 8/10 the songs for the opening and ed are good with the background music giving it a medieval tavern vibe. in a time where people believed in witches and magical creatures holo fits as not just a wolf god but a beautiful werewolf the story in it's modified state is well done creating an adventure roman…

This anime brings back a lot of memories. Watching the Spice and Wolf remake has been like reuniting with an old friend. The animation is stunning, the chemistry between Holo and Lawrence feels as magical as ever, and every scene brings back memories of when I first watched the original series back in 2010. It reminds me of those peaceful nights spent immersed in their journey, the witty friendly banter, Lawrence doing merchant things, Holo being as cute as ever, etc...I'm so grateful this remake exists. Spice and Wolf is a beautiful homage to a timeless story that still warms my heart. As always, I've been watching all this shows lately with a great friend of mine whom I considered as a brother as we have many animus on our bucket list. This is just one of the many and just like this anim…

60-SECOND REVIEWS
The original series is one of my favorites and Holo and Lawrence are two of the most likable, well-rounded and developed characters in anime with conversations which drip with intelligence and heart-fluttering chemistry. But the original series only ever adapted four novels and it's a 2000s show, which unfortunately means very few people will ever give it a try. Please, people, watch more older shows!!
So it's time to reboot it, and maybe this time, they'll adapt more of the story. I can only hope.
Beautiful music, cheap-looking animation. It's a tough tradeoff. No one element in the production stands out, but it is a very faithful and complete adaptation of the books. Because there's slightly more room to breathe, the books are adapted almost wholesale, most convers…

I chose this show to be my first introduction to this series, after hearing that it took a more 'serious' and 'faithful' approach to its adaptation. After dropping it shortly after, it was only out of sheer curiosity about its rating that I gave the original 2008 adaptation a chance. I only hope that I can prevent even one more person from making the same mistake I did: if Spice and Wolf interests you in the slightest, watch the original; this remake isn't worth your time.
Spice and Wolf is a simple narrative, and the potency of a narrative like it lies at the mercy of the way in which it is told. A remake presents a unique opportunity for a creator to improve this in innumerably many ways: raising the emotional impact of the cinematography and score, adjusting the pace of the story, rewo…

A fantasy story with a fairly solid internal logic and well-written characters. I like how Holo is a powerful yet weak being, and she's not a fantastical being who redefines the world she belongs to; she's a being who represents an anomaly in that world.
And on the other hand, the economic theme, which you might find boring, is very original, and you learn the basics along the way.
The landscapes are a work of art, seemingly oil paintings, and perhaps the use of CGI is a bit lacking, but it doesn't interrupt the wonder you're witnessing. The romance is slow but well-crafted, and the best part is that it's not the center of the work.
I RECOMMEND THIS ANIME 100% 10/10

Alright. Let's be real here. Anything about this anime is amazing. I accidentally watched this anime instead of the 2008 version, but I DID NOT regret it. Everything about this anime is good. The plot, the visuals, the voice acting, and even the pacing that you might think is a little bit slow, but it's what makes this anime good, especially adventure-type anime.
If you are a romance fan like me and trying to find a good romance in this anime, I would recommend it! the anime romance isn't too rushed where the main characters kiss in the first 3 episodes, but you won't be disappointed every time the anime shows their romance scenes.
In most of the arcs in this anime, I find some of them a little bit boring, but I assume it is what a generic adventure-type of anime is like. Of course, th…

I've never watched the original anime, so I'm unsure which version is better. All I know is that this version is more faithful to the light novels. You can summarize this anime as a romance drama with a plot focused on economics, trading, and peddling. Whether or not that's interesting is up to you. I thought it was boring up until over halfway in the series. It wasn't until the romance between Lawrence and Holo began growing that I found the series interesting.
Now does personally thinking that a series is boring make it bad? No, it doesn't. This anime's target audience is not aimed at shounen fans or someone like myself who enjoys action and comedy animes. There's almost no action or goofiness besides Holo's occasional antics. If you're not interested in a slow-paced romance, then you w…

7.5/10 - Great show but just go watch the original
Like many others I ask myself why does this exist when the original is just better, but for so many this will be their first exsperiance with S&W and this show is still just so great. That being said the original was never finished, and I think its not the worst idea to just restart the whole thing instead of awkwardly finishing where the original left off. This was a fine enough attempt and hopefully they will do the novels justice this time around with the content that is to come. Holo is one of my favorite characters of all time and seeing litrally more screen time of her is always appreciated.
