I don't usually write reviews after finishing an anime—I’m usually content with just assigning a score—but I noticed a lot of people giving this particular one a negative rating without even giving it a chance. That made me want to leave my own review (I’m writing it in my native language as well, in case anyone from my country sees it).
Isekai is a genre I generally dislike these days because it’s always the same old thing: a loser dies and reincarnates in another world where every woman wants to sleep with him, or something similar. However, occasionally a unique, standout isekai comes along, and *Tensei shitara Dragon no Tamago datta* is one of them. It gave me the same feeling I got when watching *Tensei shitara Slime Datta*. I didn't expect much from either of them initially—I assume…

This is a pretty disappointing show. So, even low quality isekai usually can deliver a bit on the moments where the protagonist shows off their skills, or defies expectations. This show just teases you with this early on, then never delivers, going at a slow pace the whole way through. Then it leaves you on a cliffhanger.
The main plot is pretty similar to other isekai like spider and slime, where the main character starts weak, but gets stronger and gains abilities over time. The pace of getting stronger is slower than a lot of these, and while it can seem a bit much to have protagonists grow strong too fast, I see why they do it. The pacing here is so slow, and I wouldn't mind as much if they incorporated the humans more. It's mostly just monsters interacting with monsters though, so th…

Recommended for casual watchers! The dub is decent, the story is entertaining, and if you're watching while doing something else you won't miss much because the dialogue covers most things. That said the animation isn't bad, and I liked a lot of the monster designs. I gave it a 7/10 because I would watch a second season and I'm curious where the story goes. But I'm a sucker for casual shows, and if you're going to judge it for doing recaps at the beginning of each episode, or being a little tropey, it might not be for you.
And MAL wanted more information for this review! So here goes:
The story isn't particularly unique, but I liked the MC's interactions with the system and the insinuations that there might be more to it
I really liked the art style, the monster designs are interesting a…

“Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling” is what happens when a spider and a slime inspire you to write, but you forget to actually learn the skill.
Have you seen “So I'm a Spider, So What?”?
If “yes” then don’t watch this show.
If “no” then go watch it, instead of this.
I’m only half joking. Both shows have a lot in common. From their character progression method, to the starting premise, the way the episodes are structured, hell it even falls into the same problems with dual story lines. That’s why it’s a shame that this one doesn’t hold a candle to “So I'm a Spider, So What?”. Despite having similar stories their plots are vastly different. One is a cheap power fantasy that cosplays as something more and the other is the spider one.
Before we start I would like to explain something. I wil…

It took me halfway through the first episode for me to surmise that this would be irredeemably awful but with my current no-drop policy (except for extenuating circumstances) I was poised to complete it.
Yes, I've explored the manga, truly it doesn’t get much better.
This season, marks the fall from grace of fantasy shows.
With the almost obsolete state of Anime Originals, they are left only to select from an ocean of Manga and Light Novels. Whilst it may the actual selection of titles that are issue, what may more damning is that that same pool to choose from may not be as adequate anymore. So they reach a precipices. They know we’re going to gobble this stuff up, consequently they’re primarily concerned with just getting stuff out so at least they can fulfill quotas and make some of th…

TLDR Great Value "So What I'm a Spider?"
The term "mid" is thrown around a lot, but there's no better word to describe this anime. The art, fights, and story are all passable enough, but nothing that the story did stuck with me in any meaningful way. It's an isekai with the usual isekai tropes, but that isn't a problem in itself. The issue is the execution. The story doesn't feel like it earns its tropey moments. For example, the protagonist has the usual "I won't let this happen again! I need to get stronger!" moment and it feels entirely unearned. It just leaves you thinking "Wait, that's the big motivational moment?"
Emotional points dont feel properly built up to. It just feels like it's happening because that's what's supposed to happen. The protagonist is just saying a line because…

A promising start that leads to a "wagon-paced" disappointment
Story: 3/10
The premise of Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling actually starts off strong. The idea of survival and evolution as a weak dragon egg has potential, but the execution is where it all falls apart. After the first few episodes, the story loses its momentum and starts to feel like a "carroça" (an old, slow-moving wagon). The plot development is poorly handled, and instead of a compelling journey, we get a messy and uninteresting narrative that feels like it’s going nowhere.
Animation & Sound: 5/10
You can tell the studio was struggling here. While they tried to "make do" with what they had, the animation is far from good. It lacks fluidity, and the art style becomes inconsistent as the episodes progress. It’s not a c…

I really liked "So I'm a spider, so what?", which has many similar ideas.
But this one was hard to watch. Every episode starts with a 2-3 minute recap, or rather, with a re-run. It's the exact same scene, no changes.
From episode to episode the main character makes progressively worse decisions and acts in ways no sane being would ever do. It felt like watching pure cringe manifest before my eyes. Every minute watching I just got angrier.
That being said, the idea of the story is still nice, some of the characters are quite enjoyable. I like that our... hero(?) has company and isn't all alone on the journey. And that's about it for the positives.
Just watch the spider Isekai instead.

I was looking for this exact kind of anime ever since I watched "Kumo desu ga, Nani ka". The MC is a monster and slowly evolve to become stronger. It is an Isekai, kinda make it more unique. The MC is not completely broken. He face defeat at some occasion. The anime is mostly a feel good anime. The protagonist is mostly positive. He try to make the best of the situation. At some occasion, the MC feel he is cursed for being a monster.
There is that game kinda world typical of Isekai. It kinda fit with the monster evolving narrative.

Having watched all of the episodes in the span of a day, I'm a little surprised how both intrigued as well as a bit bored I was throughout. The story covered has some interesting concepts I don't think other isekais I've watched have covered like the game UI windows and voices being acknowledged as unusual world elements rather than being kinda hand-waved away, but I don't think they're used to their full advantage. The protagonist's logic is understandable and he's decently entertaining to watch, but sometimes it just frustrated me how clueless he was a lot of the time - The main plot twists I figured out ages before he did, and sometimes he misses quite obvious things he could try during fights or outside of it, some of which could've been explained as him not wanting to hurt beings he c…

One of the major complaints I have with this is that the pacing is quite poor. Every single thing is stretched out, everything could be condensed and this arc could be 5 episodes instead of 12.
The one upside is that the way the low budget was handled was better than some series, no noticeable art mistakes, but many times it felt like I was watching something that could have unironically been made with PowerPoint. The CGI wasn't bad either. Skillfully low budget, but there's only so much one can do with limits.
As for the core, it's hard to say if the writing flaws were due to the cheap production, but I don't remember some of the more frustrating parts when reading the manga.
Unfortunately not a good adaptation. Well, I didn't read the original source, but if you want a good version…

Oh boy, what a mess, a mess on a structural level, in a way you can't solve my fixing one or two things.
"Tensei shitara Dragon no Tamago datta" presses some of the same buttons as "Kumo desu ga, Nani ka?" and also "Hell Mode: Yarikomizuki no Gamer wa Hai Settei no Isekai de Musou suru" from the same season in the aspect of "Skill acquisition and leveling in isekai", but similarities end there (Well, other than the CG).
While Hell Mode kept setting up things fr the future while the story went through, in a way that you kind of always knew what would happen in the future.
Dragon no Tamago brought us no such things and I don't have the slightest idea of what a season 2 would entail, most of the anime is fairly disjointed: While we're doing random stuff with Black Lizard and the monkeys (Th…

So here's the thing, usually I would instantly drop an anime once I feel the quality is only worth a 5/10 score. But somehow, I actually watched this one until the very last episode. The main reason is purely because I had way too much free time on my hands and there happens to be a lack of isekai choices this season. Plot-wise, the story is incredibly formulaic, just like your typical isekai. The main character gets sent to another world and retains his human consciousness and traits in a new body. The only non-cliché thing about this anime is probably the fact that he reincarnates as a dragon, but other than that, the storyline is highly predictable.
The most frustrating thing about this series is the main character. The MC is incredibly naive, downright stupid, and tries way too hard to…

A story in the purest Pokémon style, and one that can be enjoyed in the same way.
The premise isn't rocket science: it's an isekai about a reincarnated being who is reborn as a dragon and has to grind experience to evolve. I say it's like Pokémon because the structure is quite similar in terms of combat and evolution. At the beginning, you have a cute creature, and you pit it against the harmless creatures of the surrounding routes. As you obtain a larger and stronger form, you have to change environments to gain the necessary experience. All of this is present, allowing the anime to have a large "fauna" of creatures in an environment as small as a forest. Furthermore, it has a whole skill system that will be unlocked as the dragon fights. It can also obtain abilities by using them creati…

Unfortunately this series has all the potential of a good story, but doesnt use any of it.
While there's A FEW moments where it shines, its grossly overshadowed by tedious story progression, constant recaps and cliffhangers with sub par animation and story direction.
The entire series felt as if you watched a terrible rendition of a different yet similar 'Reincarnated as a dragon' story.
While the premise INITIALLY had me hooked, there was little keeping me interested. ESPECIALLY between episodes, as it never feels close to a resolution or has even a smidgen of charming hooks that makes you WANT to wait for the next episode. They could've done much better with this show, as I would possibly watch a season 2, but theres no way i'd watch it as it uploaded. Nowhere near satisfactory unle…

bad ending bad ending dont like how they end it, dragging out their "gonna converse to human girl or vise versa" to end it with them not talking, whats the point in adding the human girl in the screentime if they wont talk at all i mean i noticed throughout the series they give us hint they gonna talk but they dragging it out way too long then just noticed human girl has a lot of screentime without talking to the MC dragon, in the end i conclude the anime's MC are dragon and the human girl cause obviously intent to drag out their convo scenes too much that human girl has a lot of screentime, its anime so its better they change that method into flashback to save time for other scenes to add
story was ok
plot was ok+that dragged out to convo with human girl
characters was idk
pacing was ok…

It's a pretty bad production on that's ruined the anime for me here.
1) the introduction of some OG DBZ style or One Piece style recap of 3-5 minutes for a not-even one season anime broke my brain.
2) the lack of a major antagonist makes the story stagnant and boring
3) a decent last episode but lacking any spice to make you want to stay due to 2) issue.
Overall, this anime was a refreshing fun isekai whe MC reincarnate in body of a hatchling dragon and he makes choices that impacts his evolution. Simple premise, fun concept based on all choices he can/could take. It only by mid season you get this feeling of... Is there a goal except leveling up? By the early episodes you think the direction will be pretty solid but it's not...
without providing spoilers; think of You got a good story b…

The show has some strengths. The "I was reincarnated as x' gimmick actually matters to an extent, and at times, the show actually handles some interesting moral and personal dilemmas.
The Weaknesses are unfortunately just as prevalent.
The MC is stupid to the point of being annoying, with obvious fixes for problems being ignored, some problems have NO attempt at a solution, and entire arcs and story points are just forgotten.
With some tweaks, this could've been a pretty good story. It just isn't. The only thing giving it a boost to 5 stars is that, unlike the other monster gimmick shows like Slime Isekai, the monster part actually matters.

This is another "isekai but with a twist" type anime. Im typically not a fan because they tend to come up with so many stupid things for an MC to reincarnate as.
I wasn't expecting much from Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling.
But for a moment I was actually getting into it.
The MC is not a dragon hatchling the entire time. He evolves which is what keeps the anime interesting.
His goal is to become as human as possible to be with a girl he really cares for.
And the girl is pretty likeable. So you do root for the MC.
The issue comes from the pacing. Alot of it is the MC grinding xp to evolve.
The main villain is not interesting.
And the last episode is very unsatisfying.
Its a 6/10
It didnt live up to its full potential.

a show i had higher hopes for. each episode the budget got a little bit smaller and the pacing got a bit more stretched. they could have comfortably fit the exact same content in 8 episodes had they cut a lot of repeat filler. i dont think the underlying writing was very strong either. a lot of the drama is based on the main character trying to become something humans will talk to. ultimately all of that was a waste of time and didnt really go anywhere, and this is a rare complaint, but id also say that the voicework is also rather bad. while the main character is fine, the black lizard is a character you hear a lot from, and hearing a grown woman say shi shi shi over and over gets old.
this is a story that needs a second pass to be good. like the VN or manga its based on needs a re-write…
