The Duke of Death and His Maid

The Duke of Death and His Maid

Introduction

As the elegant, frail flower petals wither away into lifeless ashes, the young duke is tragically reminded of the despicable power forced upon him—the ability to kill anything he touches. Scorned by his family, he is sent away to live in near isolation. Fortunately, he is not entirely alone, as the manor's staff—his dutiful butler Rob and the flirtatious maid Alice—keep him company and make his life less miserable. As the duke's romantic feelings for Alice grow, so does his continued frustration for the limits set by his unfortunate ability. Therefore, he resolves to break the curse cast upon him all those years ago, not only for his sake, but Alice's as well—for he is painfully aware of how difficult it is to avoid the touch of a loved one. A CGI romance that actually works. Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid was one of the season's biggest surprises for me. At first, it draws attention for its use of CGI in a genre where that animation style usually raises eyebrows. However, what really won me over was how the show uses its premise to build a romance that is lighthearted and fun, yet melancholic at the same time. The core concept is simple yet fascinating: a young duke has been cursed to kill any living thing he touches, making physical contact impossible. At first glance, this seems like the setup for an intensely dramatic story, but the anime chooses a different path. Instead of focusing solely on the tragedy of the curse, it builds a romantic comedy around the relationship between the protagonist and his maid, Alice. Much…

I love this series. It feels like a story book come to life. A story of two lovers who can’t touch because of a curse…and the journey to overcome it. The MC was cursed as a child and anything living that touches him, dies. As a result, he was shunned from his family to live a life of solitude until he breaks the curse. Although alone, his butler and maid are there to assist the MC. The story slowly unveils that he has feelings for his maid, but his fear of touch causes him to retreat from her. That does not stop her from using all forms of flirting to get closer to him. With her, the MC slowly evolves and starts to realize he can live a life of happiness. Curse or not. I really loved the character designs. The CGI mixed with still shots is unique but did not bother me from enjoying the…

I've seen some fair shares of romance animes and I gotta say this one was pretty good. The premise is very interesting. Imagine you are cursed and everything you touch dies. This means you cannot touch your significant other. I mean this sucks you can't bang! At first there is an easy solution and that is to not touch anyone. But the situation is not as easy as it seems. You have to distance yourself from everyone and it gets pretty lonely. You also have to live with the fear that if you make a mistake and touch someone by accident, you kill them. This anime captures this dreadful situation really well. But in this dreadful and dark situation the anime throws in some good comedy to balance things out. The comedic scenes are done really well and I think it is one of the best parts of the sh…

At first, the CGI might make you not want to watch it—but trust me, it’s not that bad. The characters still show emotions well, and they actually look pretty nice too. There’s a lot of fanservice in this anime. Alice, the maid, always flirts and teases Viktor in a sexual way. Some people might like that. There’s also a young girl who has a crush on an older man (Minor x Dilf), but it happens so much that it gets boring. The show also has things like childhood love and romantic teasing. The story is interesting, but it moves slowly. Most of season 1 is about world-building and learning about the characters’ current lives. There are a lot of repeated jokes like boob slaps, sexual teasing, and a little sister being obsessed with Rob, which can get annoying. Some characters show up without m…

I'm a huge sucker for romance anime, and this one actually has it all. It's got an interesting hook and characters with actual personalities. The main plot is a romance between an aristocratic heir who was cursed by a witch as a child to kill all he touches (hence the "Duke of Death"), and his maid, Alice. The pace of the romance between the Duke and Alice feels incredibly natural, and the chemistry between the two is clear with an actual backstory to it, instead of it being 'just because.' The dynamic between the two of them balances out quite nicely. Even though Alice technically works for the Duke, and on paper he has authority over her, she has all of the power over him emotionally. Their personalities compliment this dynamic as well: the Duke is timid and easily flustered, while Ali…

The Duke of Death and His Maid is one of those rare gems that I didn’t expect to love as much as I did. I mean, imagine not being able to touch the one you love. It’s heartbreaking, right? That’s the curse the Duke (Bocchan) has to live with—everything he touches dies. Plants, animals, people—nothing is spared. And on top of that, his mother disowns him, calling him "death incarnate." It’s such a painful premise, yet somehow this anime manages to be sweet, funny, and even hopeful. I’ve seen over 100 anime, and I can confidently say this one has earned a top spot on my list. After bingeing the entire first season, I was left with a mix of emotions—joy, sadness, and a deep appreciation for the characters. Bocchan’s struggle feels so real, and Alice, his maid, is just… wow. She’s playful, bo…

You ever have that feeling of love but being too scared to act on it? Well this is this show he loves her she loves him but he’s cursed with death anything he touches dies including her so what does he do? This show builds that story and theme throughout building the relationships and a way to break the curse it’s fun quirky and easy to follow it’s fairly slow paced with this season being a setup there’s 2 more (as of writing) so far it’s been good learning the characters and enjoying them for who they are learning about the curse and who did it it’s all been very well placed through the 12 episodes but that’s it no conclusion to it as of season 1 It does give you a question Will the duke get his love and cure himself or will he suffer who knows because at the moment not much is look…

I really enjoyed watching this season. I honestly find the premise to the anime to be very interesting. A young boy being cursed by a witch and forced to live out his days devoid of any contact with anything and anyone or else they will die. Thinking back I can't think of any anime that has come close to that plot point and I do think it's an interesting one. I will say I do wish though there was more of an explanation of why he was cursed in the first place as all we know from the end of the first season is "witch just came up to me and did it" - It kinda just feels like they don't know themselves as to why they decided to have the witch do it. Animation is fine in my opinion. I've seen complaints about the use of CGI and how bad it is. Whilst I don't think the CGI was bad, I can admit…

"The Duke of Death and His Maid" offers a refreshing take on the romance anime genre, providing viewers with a unique and engaging story. The series introduces us to interesting characters who add depth and charm to the narrative. One of the standout features of the anime is its ability to balance romance with a touch of ecchi. The show teases the audience with playful moments without crossing into explicit territory, keeping the tone light-hearted and entertaining. This approach adds a layer of humor and anticipation, making it suitable for a wider audience. The animation in "The Duke of Death and His Maid" is commendable, showcasing quality visuals that bring the characters and their world to life. I generally really enjoy the story. The manga is amazing, but this is an odd adaptation. The intro and outro songs are really good. Will add to music play list later. The thing that kills it for me is the animation. It is unfortunately CGI and it's a bit garring at times. Its feels like I'm waiting for the cutscene in a video game to be over. The CGI is distracting. The movements of the characters are sometimes really uncanny and not normal. How is it that the background characters are animated in 2D, and the main characters are in CGI? Its normally the other way around, but ok. The backgrounds are really odd too. They are trying to give the backgrounds a texture like an oil painting on and canvas. While it can work in other shows, it doesn't work here. It clashes with the CGI characters…

Let me give you a brief description of this anime first of all its not like your simple rom-com anime where in the 6th episode there is a beach episode or school trip episode and the last episode always end up with a summer festival were both the fmc and mc fail to confess, this anime is a super wholesome and heart melting with a spice of magic and curse when you watch this anime you will feel like you're watching yourself when you got your first love/crush and every second of it made your heart skip a beat (Kyun) moreover the story is not boring it got pacing with a good enough plot to make some suspense and the love and teasing between the fmc and mc is so cute when you first watch this you might feel skeptical to watch due to cg but trust if this anime was not produced with cg it might…

At first I was skeptical of CG used to make the show but eventually it really didn't matter much and with the budget they had, they did a very good job of using it properly not to show the imperfections it would otherwise bring. And that would be my only real negative thing to say about the show really. I really enjoyed the kind-hearted nature of the show which at first makes it obviously unsettling for the whole reason of MC being capable to destroy anything living by touch, and it develops characters and their relationships quite nicely with an appropriate cliffhanger by the end of season 1. I feel like with the ideas they brought, there will be some interesting plot line developments going on during season 2. Main star of the show is of course Alice, who is just sweet and playful and…

first of all, lets give a applause to the 3d animation in this anime :> alittle spoilers please be aware! when watching the few episodes of this show, it will make you think of depression, but as the show goes on its actually very wholesome in a way i think is very fascinating so we have our main character, the duke, who got cursed by a witch when he was young, the curse is that if he touches any living thing they will die. abandon by his family, life withour friends. we got the maid, alice, who has known the duke since they were young, we also have the butler who i think his reactions are really funny, zain and cuff is so cute together! anyways so what i think is wholesome is that, the duke and alice from ep 1 to the end were falling in love more and more and alice seduced the duke ever…

Please don't let my score of 7 scare you off from giving this anime a chance, because I really do think it deserves a watch. Going into watching this anime, I thought it would have more drama and heartache, and of course, it does have some of that, but this anime is mostly a romantic comedy with some angst sprinkled over top because of the MC's curse of killing whatever he touches. Keep in mind, this anime's lack of deep plot and drama is not a reason to not watch it, its just that I personally prefer the super dramatic/action-y/deep plot kinds of anime, so this one wasn't quite my cup of tea. As you can see from my review so far, I sometimes neglect to do proper research on animes before I watch them (like checking what genre they are, etc.), lol. However, for a romantic comedy, this anim…

The premise is really good and sets up an interesting dynamic between the characters. It also sets up an interesting character to explore. So for sure the story is really good even if we don't see a lot of it in the first 12 episodes. The main character has depth, and I like that. However, the characters are almost constantly in comedy mode so even though other characters have depth we don't see much of it, and when we do it's ruined by the next unfortunate comedic moment. The voice acting and soundtrack is solid, I really have no complaints, except the dub had the english va sing in one or two episodes(but not the others...thankfully), and no he can't sing. Other than that is was good. THE ART SUCKS. The backgrounds are nice and have a canvas like texturing to them that I really like.…

MAY CONTAIN SPOLIERS*** I...I don't know what to say. All I know is that I want a season 2 and I want it now. But in all seriousness, The Duke of Death and His Maid was simply beautiful, and very underrated in my opinion. There was just something about it that tugged at my heartstrings and left me desiring more and more. I know there won't be a season 2 for awhile, so writing about it how much I enjoyed it will have to satisfy me for now. Story - 8/10 We start out with a boy who goes by the title of "The Duke". He was cursed by a witch as a child that makes it so he kills any living thing he touches. Plants, animals, and even people. He is moved out of his manor and into a villa due to his mother's new dislike for him, claiming him to be nothing more than "death's incarnate". He cont…

The Duke of Death and His Maid is a strange show. I was introduced to the show from those highly illegal YouTube clips of the full anime episode where the only transformation of content is changing the order of the scenes. I got 2 things from watching these clips: 1. The creator of this show probably fantasizes about having a big boobied blonde maid tease him all the time and 2. This show probably sucks and I need to watch it. While I can't confirm number 1, I can definitely say without a doubt I was wrong on my second point. The entire crux of the Duke of Death and His Maid is a curse that is put on the Duke. The Duke is not named for some reason but I imagine it'll be important later down the line (hopefully) and his maid is named Alice. The Duke comes from an aristocratic family, althou…

I can't believe I binged this in one night... I sat on my couch and barely moved for six hours! Let's get right into the anime basics. Story; Stuck inside the family Villa, Bocchan (the young Duke, heir to his family) lives alone with his two servants. Although he was born into as the first son into a wealthy family, sadly at a young age a witch cursed him, not letting him be loved ever. Although it sounds straight forward, it actually affects living organisms around him. Plants, animals and especially humans can't be touched by him or they die right away. Although his life seems grim, he thankfully has trusty butler Rob and his beautiful maid Alice (where they are VERY open about their relationship and how they feel about each other). Although the two can't be physically intimate, they a…

Well hello there, congrats, you've found one of my rare, spoiler free reviews! It's basically where I take a title, like for example this one and talk about it's story, characters, artstyle and so on. And if you're wondering why I chose this one, well, it's because it really deserves more appreciation and love, since it's pretty underrated due to the CGI aspects of it. And before I start, I want to mention that I'm definitely NOT a fan of CGI, for various reasons and I could probably count on one hand, how many CGI anime I have watched. And so, Let's BEGIN! As always I will start with the story, and one thing I can say for sure, is that this story feels pretty unique. It truly shows that even with a small amount of characters, you can create some pretty interesting plot. It flows well and…

Although its animation is CGI that did not prevent the anime Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid from being one of the best of the summer season 2021. The story, the suspense and the comedy (also the ecchi) combine very well with this anime being well loved despite its CGI animation, who is the witch who cursed Bocchan and why did she do it? How will they break the curse? Will Bocchan give Alice like a drawer that doesn't close when she breaks the curse? These are some questions that this anime leaves you (the last question I said as a joke xd), a love story that you cannot miss. And his second season was confirmed at the end of the first season
