My Happy Marriage

My Happy Marriage

Introduction

Misery seems everlasting in Miyo Saimori's life. Born from an arranged marriage, she was quickly discarded after her mother's tragic death. Her father remarried, and her younger half-sister Kaya received all the affection, while Miyo was degraded to a lowly servant. Lacking the strength to fight against her family's abuse, Miyo loses hope that her luck will ever turn. Unexpectedly, Miyo's father summons her to deliver surprising news: she is to marry Kiyoka Kudou, the head of the distinguished Kudou family. Despite his noble background, Kiyoka is known to be a callous man who has thus far dismissed all of his former fiancées. Upon arriving at the Kudou household, Miyo expects coarse treatment and to be tossed aside. However, contrary to her assumptions, Kiyoka shows her the kindness and love that she has desperately needed. Marrying Kiyoka may be Miyo's one chance to break free from her neglectful family and embrace a life of happiness. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

My Happy Marriage, from the handful of shoujo series I have tried, seems fairly unique because of its setting based on older Japan and, more interestingly, because it starts with the main couple technically together through an arranged marriage. I also like that, while it seems to have the typical setup where the main girl has to choose between the nice guy and the stern, douchey guy, there is thankfully little to no question about who the protagonist, Miyo, ends up with. She ends up with Kiyoka because he is actually a well-meaning and kind guy, even if he can be distant and socially awkward. I like how the first half of the show is a very solid arc that shows that, even though this is an arranged marriage, the couple treats it like a new relationship where they do not know each other a…

My Happy Marriage is an emotionally beautiful anime series that subtly builds upon itself with each episode. Initially, one would assume that it’s just another historical romance anime series, but it goes beyond that and touches upon issues of healing, self-respect, and understanding what true love is about. What I liked best about this anime is the delicate story line. It moves at its own pace without ever being hurried, allowing the emotions to develop naturally on their own. The relationship between the protagonists is a delicate one with sincerity and comfort in its development that touches me deeply. The other great thing about the film is its atmospheric feel, which is breathtakingly animated and wonderfully designed for the period setting. The score is another element that is emot…

I watched this anime in one day. I thought it would be a normal romance The artstyle is really pretty After watching the first few episodes, it felt very much like Cinderella (? I mean mean step-mother and step-sister and a conveniently attractive strong fiancé...? AND THEY HAVE POWERS????? It's not really THAAAAT bad if you don't mind poorly written romances. Miyo needs more personality; all her actions are based on "Will I be a good fiancée?" and "What will my fiancé think of this?" And it ends up being annoying. It feels like they didn't put enough thought into how the story develops...?

If only I could rate this season on the quality of the first 6 episodes alone, it would be an easy 9 out of 10. Unfortunately, this is a 12 episode (+ 1 special) season. The first 6 episodes are a solid and emotionally effective story about trauma and healing. The main character Miyo has a clear arc, developing from a passive and traumatised girl, into someone willing to fight for her own happiness. It's a story as compelling as it is expertly told. Then comes the second arc, and the show begins to languish in slow pacing and formulaic plot developments. We are introduced to new characters that are portrayed sympathetically, despite their actions (at least initially) being worthy of nothing but the protagonist's contempt. In order to square this circle, Miyo is forced by the plot to regr…

My Happy Marriage portrays as a tender romantic drama shaped by emotional neglect, personal healing, and the gradual rediscovery of dignity within a world influenced by supernatural lineage. Set in an alternate version of early modern Japan where certain families possess spiritual abilities, the story intertwines domestic hardship with sort of fantasy elements that framing love not as sudden passion but as the slow restoration of self worth. The narrative follows Miyo Saimori, a young woman born into a once prestigious family known for supernatural gifts. Despite this lineage, Miyo grows up without displaying any visible spiritual power. The absence of this ability transforms her status within the household from valued heir to unwanted burden. After the death of her mother, Miyo’s life gra…

The fact that this anime has such a high rating and is so popular really surprises me. It's one of the most boring animes I've ever seen. The pacing is off, the characters have about one personality trait each, and the plot is basically nonexistent until the last few episodes (which is the only reason I managed to finish it at all). The main character undergoes approximately zero growth and continues being a crybaby doormat throughout the whole thing, which is understandable to some extent upon learning about her background but it happens SO OFTEN that eventually it just made me roll my eyes every time she started crying. Obviously year-long trauma doesn't disappear overnight but it feels like nothing ever improved and the only chance the viewer gets to develop any kind of sympathy for h…

✒🌸 Kudos for the Power of L💘ve °8.3° °Excellent° 💯%🔍 some minor spoilers Saimori Miyo is the prototype purehearted-blushing-maiden. She's overly polite and overly apologetic; she's all-of-that anime character type. She's a sweetie. She's definitely a cutie. She hardly comes up to Kudo's chin, but they are engaged, regardless. Miyo's family has no use for her, especially since mom died and dad remarried to step-b!+ch. They are dumping her onto Lord Kudo, whose previous fiance ran for the hills. When Miyo meets Kudo, he's actually not so bad. Quickly, he turns from cold seeming to kind. Kindness and love are things that Miyo has never known. The animation is gorgeous. People are drawn with light lines and colors. The backgrounds are particularly detailed and artistically 🌸 beautiful…

(Watched: 6th–8th April 2025) I recently got to watch this Shojo anime as lots of posts flooded social media about it and I wanted to try something romantic. Well, it was basically the Cinderella story by reference. 💞 Story Summary: It is about Miyo and her soon-to-be husband Kiyoka Kudou, slowly falling for each other. Not only is it a historical romance, but there is something more to it: fantasy. ✨ What to Expect: Strong female lead Slow-burning romance Emotional depth Supernatural aspects like magic and psychic powers Family drama and personal growth 🎯 Final Thoughts: This one is mainly geared toward the girl demographic. Nevertheless, anyone who enjoys a soft, emotional romance with fantasy woven in should give this a try. Definitely a one-time watch. Rating: 7/10. Try it out i…

My Happy Marriage is a beautiful romance series that feels a tad inspired by Cinderella. Though with a supernatural twist. The characters feel very real, in that I could empathize with them while I was watching. The romance and supernatural twist I felt complimented each other well. It allowed the plot to move while also progressing their own relationship. A great plot device to aid the flow of the story and felt it was used very affectively throughout. Now, I'm a sap so this show got me in more ways than one but it was just too cute at times. Showing how each of the characters grow with each other through their different experiences was a wonderful showcase of the characters themselves and how wonderfully written this series is (it was so great i bought the novels!!). All in all, Th…

I just want to say that I love the characthers dynamic and their relashionship construction so much. To me, it just isn´t a ten because all the power stuff in this anime seems completely unecessary. The story narrative through the episodes does not ressemble Cinderela at all, except for Miyo´s past of course, so its not unoriginal. Miyo´s is an easy characther to relate to, so I don´t think that she does not have personality as some other people said. It´s quite the opposite, her personality is very well behaved due to her past and she´s just so adorable, humble and likeable. if you´re a fan of romance, I think it´s totally worth watching 💕

My Happy Marriage: a show you have to have a certain level of maturity and be a romantic to get. I will be completely honest: on the first watch of this show, i didn't like it at all. i though it was boring, the characters too wooden and stuck in their archetypes, and the magic caught me off guard. I believed that Miyo especially was a bit annoying because i just wanted her to stand up for herself instead of sulking everywhere feeling nothing but pity and self hatred. I honestly thought this was some fan fiction by a middle school girl looking to escape her own reality. Upon the rewatch of this show a year later, i realized that i have a deep admiration for this show. I realized that i originally didn't enjoy it because I saw too much of myself and past struggles in the main character Miy…

This anime feels like a typical Cinderella story but with strange powers that seem completely unnecessary. The inclusion of these powers caught me off guard and cheapened the overall experience, making the characters seem one-dimensional. Beyond the main character's trauma, she lacks any real personality, and there's nothing to make her stand out. While the animation and music are impressive, they can't fully redeem the weak plot. The story is unoriginal, and the characters have no depth, which made the experience frustrating. The music is the only thing that somewhat compensates for the lack of substance in the narrative and character development.

I picked this anime up because it was my comfort genre, a period romance with a bit of magic and duels. what more could you want? But it far exceeded my expectations, both in terms of its writing and production. The story is yet another adaptation of a Cinderella-esque structure with an overpowered Male lead who swoops in to save the Female lead from the clutches of abuse and unhappiness. But here it diverts from the tropes a bit and we are presented with a story, although quite simple but more dramatic and political at its roots. It starts slow, but the story quickly picks up a plot that spans a political motive, negotiations between noble families, and pretty good action set pieces for a romance-drama anime. The characters are simple, rememberable, and conveyed very aptly. I like that m…

Music (1/2) : At first music didn't strike that much, you almost don't realize it exists until you start thinking about it. Then you realize it goes smoothly, it is rare but always nicely done. The opening and ending are not very memorable but it grows slowly but surely when watching and it leaves a good trace. Not so impressive but afterwards it is well done. Animation (2/2) : Probably the biggest positive point of the anime is indeed the animation. Details are great, lights and shades are mastered by the team. The design of the characters is very impressive and the supernatural powers are so great to see. It is a delight for the eye on most cases. Story (3/6) : The story itself is a bit boring and has a lot of things lacking. Character development, bar the one of Miyo, is really low l…

"My Happy Marriage" is a prime example of an anime with stunning art but a lackluster narrative. I wish I could find reasons to recommend it, but unfortunately, I cannot. The characters are extremely flat: we have the self-conscious Miyo, the cold-on-the-outside, warm-on-the-inside Kiyoka, the selfish and arrogant Kaya, and so on. They fail to develop throughout the series, and even in the final scene, where the main characters are supposed to reach a climactic transformation, they merely continue playing their assigned roles. I was hoping for a strong romantic element, but it fell flat. It’s not a slow burn; it’s more of a slow fade, as there was no spark to ignite any real passion. However, the grotesqueries—the eerie creatures—offered me that missed "spark". The artists captured their…

This is a beautifully done "damsel-in-distress needs saving" anime but with a twist: there is magic. Story: 7/10 The plot has been done so many times throughout literature and media. A damsel in a toxic environment that needs saving. This anime doesn't focus on that aspect a lot; a majority of it is about Mio healing from her traumas. It's a slow burn and her healing is also as slow. It gets frustrating at times because you want her to man up and stand up for herself, but it takes on a realistic approach of a character not changing over night. She still has trauma responses even though she is out of the toxic environment. The romance is nice, too. It's cheesy. Its sweet. Art: 9/10 Its beautifully drawn. I love all the cherry blossom motifs and magic animation. It's on a similar level t…

A shoujo story inspired by Cinderella blended with magic powers and demons, set in an urban fantasy-type 1910s Japan, Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon is a slow-burn show that eventually results in an adequate pay-off for a one-season anime. The story revolves around the main couple. The woman, Miyo, is a young noble who has suffered intense emotional and physical abuse since the death of her mother. Due to being born without magical talent in a family with such power, she is deemed useless to the family, particularly when it comes to the succession. Her original intended is betrothed to her younger sister and she herself is shipped off to her new betrothed, Kudou Kiyoka. As expected, he's the man, in more ways than one. You see, Kiyoka has a legendarily bad reputation amongst the nobility,…

While I haven't watched Cinderella, let me provide a review of this anime that many consider similar to the Cinderella story. Main Character (Miyo) Background: Miyo was seen as a useless child without magical eyes. This led to her being bullied and isolated, causing deep mental stress and making her lose confidence and always feel wrong. Despite her father being the head of a prestigious family, she became a servant in that household. This was the fate of a child "neglected" by her parents - truly a dark past. Character Development (Miyo) and Supporting Characters: Meeting Kudou Kiyoka brought positive changes to Miyo. Thanks to Kudou, Miyo felt needed. Although Miyo initially felt worthless, in Kudou's eyes, she had value. This slowly sparked love, eventually growing into deep confidence…

Directing is poor - There's no consistency and nothing new is brought to the table. Characters motivations are fragile and childish-like (especially the main female protagonist (Miyo). Animation is very good, drawings are good enough. Conflicts (mainly between characters) are more irritating than intersting. Audio design and music are OK (music is felt to be more of a 'place holder' artifact, rather than an important tool to support the whole work of art). There are too many contradictions in Miyo actions and thoughts, that it just throws you off the experience of watching a story. The 'drive' of characters too easily shrivels and as a result there's never truly a sense of urgency (not even during the action scenes). Have fun watching (:

It is ok! Not particularly memorable, the pacing was off everything felt much too short and much too long at the same time. Because of how short the series was there wasn’t much time for character development while at the same time they didn’t use the time that they had to do anything meaningful. Having it be a short historical drama would have been better. I enjoyed those aspect of it the most at least, the powers and what not are really not vital to the series. If it had been longer it would have been nice to see Miya half sister come around to her. Overall, not the worst but not the best.
