The last time I saw such a bad adaptation was with both Tokyo Ghoul, the first Fullmetal Alchemist and the second season of The Promised Land. I don't know if this adaptation (if you can call it that) deserves the 4 points. To sum it up, the first TV adapts vol. From 4 to 13 (they only used the first chapter from the first book) and the remaining chapters along with vol. 2, 3 and half of vol. 4 were skipped and that also applies to the rest of the anime that they left out here and there. then the 2012 movies do the same, so I found them useless since they didn't bring anything new (you could say they were more like remasters, they just had better animation, that's all), The 2016 TV continues from vol. 16. So they just skip vol. 14 and 15 and half of vol. 16. But in return they give us in t…

Okay, I have a lot to say about this series. This is actually my first review I'm writing for MyAnimeList because all my other reviews are just copy pasted from Letterboxd, which you should check out btw. It's not good, but I've honestly seen worse. In terms of it being an adaptation, it's really bad because it feels like a heavily cut down version of something that's amazingly written, but in terms of it being an anime, it's meh. I do have some things I like about this believe it or not, but I also have a lot of complaints as well. Let's address the elephant in the room, which is the animation. It's...questionable at best and awful at worst. I will never understand why they decided to use mainly CG for this when they could've done the 2D 3D thing like in the film trilogy. My biggest…

So, for years I avoided the 2016 Berserk anime because of all the hate surrounding it. Now that I've finally watched it... I get it. The visuals/animation are horrible - appalling, even. If there wasn't enough budget to do it properly, they shouldn't have touched it in the first place. That's especially true for a series like Berserk, whose manga is famous for its incredibly detailed and beautiful art. That said, if you can somehow look past the animation - which feels like an insult to the eyes - it does a decent job adapting the story. The pacing is solid and it stays fairly faithful to the source material. Would I recommend it? If you can overlook the dreadful visuals and, for whatever reason, don't have access to the manga, then it's a very cautious "yes". If animation quality matter…

What a disappointment this Berserk adaptation was. It's difficult to even put into words the level of frustration it causes, especially for those who know the grandeur of Kentaro Miura's original work. It's not just an adaptation below expectations, it's an adaptation that fails to understand what makes Berserk so special. To get straight to the point: the animation is simply awful. The choice of stylized 3D would already be risky in itself, but here it's executed in an extremely poor way. The art style of Berserk in the manga has always been marked by an absurd level of detail and an almost suffocating realism, with dense, dark scenes full of visual impact. Transforming that into a stiff, artificial, and poorly rendered 3D not only impoverishes the experience but also completely breaks t…

The opening theme is one of the best I have ever seen! It does such an insanely good job of recapping the entire plot between the two verses: the good times, the bad times! The flow of perspective shifts and storyboarding are excellent. If the show could have simply kept that same level of clarity it would be solid across the board. Berserk here is kept alive by the sheer strength of the source material. The characters, situations, and moments are so powerful in the source manga. Even when shown poorly, this is an amazing story. It is understandable if people are just blown away by how fun and interesting the world is, but all of that is thanks to Miura's manga. I am lowering my score on this because: the studio was unwilling to adapt Lost Children chapter, the animation is notably worse…

What makes this adaptation strong is the OST. Otherwise in reality the animation is not extraordinary. Especially the flashbacks. the falschbak animation really stinks of shit. I don't know how you can have an increasingly mediocre adaptation, when you don't have enough budget, it's better to let it go I think. Even the opening animation isn't really great, but the music is good, the soundtracks are good, it makes the fights feel nostalgic. At first, from episode 2 onwards, I was wondering if it was worth continuing, but for the sake of a review, it's better to at least finish the anime, right? I had a good time watching the anime despite the 3D animation which I don't like otherwise the soundtracks of this adaptation are a treat. The OST made the fights really impressive, I think it's wor…

Look, the story of this anime is great because it's Berserk. Berserk has good story and as far as I know, they didn't change much from original manga. So story is good and well-paced. The decision to change or remove parts of original story for anime adaptation is on director and staffs so they did made right decision by stick to the source material. Also, we've finally move away from Golden Age arc to Black Swordsman arc, so that's a plus. Credits to them for not repeating the same story for third time. Nothing wrong with GA arc tho. It just got adapted like twice at this point. Suzumu Hirasawa came back to made OST for this show too and his music are still GODLY. BUT THE ANIMATION, MAN. I get that Berserk is hard to animate due to Miura's God-Made art style, especially with TV budget.…

Everyone said the animation was bookie but honestly it’s not even bad. I didn’t have high expectations of this seeing the reviews but thought might as well watch it. I’ve never read the manga or seen the 97 version of it so got nothing to compare it to but I like the story and guts is such a good character. The build up of egg guy is interesting as well with mozgus thinking he had some divine intervention when he just didn’t, and the mystery around it is good as well. If u like big strong guy who can kill things easily then this is a good show. Apart from that blonde girl. Fuck her I hate her she’s so annoying.

The negativity from manga enthusiasts is discouraging potential new viewers interested in the anime. Not everyone wishes to delve into the manga guys, so let's refrain from discouraging others from watching this anime or even the 3 movies before this one. As an anime viewer myself, I genuinely appreciate the graphics; there doesn't seem to be any issues here unless you are being extremely picky. Some might be overly critical; in my opinion, the story and animation are fantastic, providing even more excitement than the 1997 version. For those not bound by strict manga preferences, this adaptation is perfectly acceptable and quite enjoyable.

Despite its bad animation and sound effects, I still enjoyed Berserk's story and characters. The graphic content, including gore, death, and sexual violence, actually looks decent, in my opinion, and it adds to the story and the world of Berserk. The themes of religious fanaticism and the dangers of blindly following faith are prominent in Berserk's story, depicted through the characters' choices of who they deem as their savior. The story does not condemn religion but instead cautions against losing one's sense of reason in the pursuit of salvation. The world of Berserk is bleak and unforgiving, and the characters face unimaginable horrors, but they also find strength in their own free will and determination to survive. I really like Berserk's dark and gritty world. The show's message t…

Absolutely godawful on so many levels it is incomprehensible. u make an anime 19 years later after the 97 version and somehow manage to make it this incredibly bad due to its horrible animation, character style/design, audio/sound (please for the love of god why on earth is there a pan sound every time a sword is drawn?). also why does every character progress to look so femboy tier? its insane to me Like who decided to make this, rewatch it, and was like "damn its time to air this piece of brilliance", i have no words for the absolute amtateur/low social intuition one must have to ever think this will be "good" in the eyes of people who saw the 97 ver, it is such an insult it shouldn't even exist

Before this anime was out a lot of fools were defending it as amazing because of nostalgia, even though the trailer was nothing but bad CGI and the material it was adapting was nowhere as good as the one from the 90s. Boy, did they regretted being positive about it. The 90s Berserk is the best dark fantasy anime of all times. The 2016 version on the other hand is yet another dark and edgy mediocrity with cancer CGI, awful directing, and terrible sound composition. You cannot watch 5 minutes without spotting a lazily made scene with bizarre camera angles and effortless lipsync. When Guts hits something, it makes a ridiculous metallic sound even when what he hits is not made of metal. And when he cuts someone in half, it looks like a plastic toy because the CGI is rendered cheaply. Berserk,…

I really must say that while i like Berserk i am disapointed. Story follows the manga ok, maybe notin perfect way but still following it, however animation, even animation rom original series, first season if you want, which was from 1997 was far better then this from 2016. Its clear that they used CGI and not really quality one but cheap one. Music is weird but it actually is good for the setting. Characters, well they are not perfect either but they do follow the story and i do like some of the new characters. I cannot really say much against the show except that animation is bad. Still despite the haters and that, i am glad we got at least something. Although it would be nice if we get new clean reboot. Do i recommended. If you are fan of Berserk, well try it for yourself, to me, i woul…

This is the first and only Berserk adaptation that actually progresses the story after the Golden Age arc, along with its 2017 sequel. Let's talk about the story first: Most key points of the manga were included, even the infamous horse scene. This was evident as I was reading the manga side by side at the time of watching and failed to notice any exceedingly frustrating changes. The animation and artstyle is the number 1 issue with this adaptation. The models look like they were made by a PSP videogame animator and their movements are even worse. This could've worked out if the goal was something like Chainsaw Man's gritty and cheesy aesthetic and of course if the quality of the animation was better, even if CGI were present. Most movement looks like it's capped at around 10 frames per…

People love Berserk, the manga is excellent, the classic anime is great, the 2010's movies are decent... The new adaptations, are shit... Whoever is behind the Berserk animes keeps making them with CG animation, and a little bit of normal animation. Which leads with ass CG. The story is great, the characters are great, the music is decent, but about everything else is bad. People who don't mind animation might enjoy this anime, people who do. Will hate this anime. So some people might like it, just depends on the crowd. The characters and villains I would say are well thought of. On top of that, they all have there reason to be the protagonist. There is also character change in the anime. Which isn't something I see all the time. I mean, Naruto has been around for over 20 years and yet,…

If I want to describe berserk 2016 In a word, I would say disaster. Due to the greatness of Berserk manga, I came to this anime knowing that I was not facing a good anime, but I never imagined such a disaster. Visually and artistically, the anime is a complete disaster, and it is not at all on the level of Berserk name, but there are much regular anime series and many hentai that are better artistically than this Berserk. In the narrative part, I think the story has an interesting narrative, and maybe the only reason that will make you watch all 12 episodes is this story, although to understand the general story, you must be familiar with the beginning of Berserk manga, or in the other way I think if you have watched Berserk 1997 It is enough to see this anime. The sound and music sectio…

Off the bat the CGI was not hitting and the story I feel like was dragged. Guts is a fire character and should have deserved better. It wasn't what I expected when I was starting it. They put a lot of time in the soundtrack and sounds, I genuinely enjoyed hearing it. If it had a better adaptation and the pacing was better berserk could have been somewhere. As someone who actually liked berserk I feel like i wasted my time honestly. It fr got hoed. They just keeped on adding characters that you were supposed to care for I get it they were a crew but it was like guts was babysitting them.

An Anime I put as a must see if you like a dark and brutal Anime. Berserk is not a happy anime in fact its rarely ever happy. This Anime focuses around three characters, Guts a loner warrior whose tough as nails, Kaska a warrior learning how to become a leader and romantic interest for Guts, and Griffith a Charismatic Leader that sees his destiny at the top and Leads a group called the Band of the Hawk to try and reach that goal. Berserk pretty much all about these three characters journey to make Griffith relies his goal as Guts and Kaska believe Griffith can make a place for them all. So its battle after battle both on the feild and political battles to get to Griffiths goal. Characters are great while Guts comes off one dimensional as just a angry killing machine he evolves over the…

Alright, so I went into this anime having never read the manga or seen the first one. This is gonna be a very simple barebones review. --- The sound: I appreciated the voice acting and the sounds overall were on point. I also thoroughly enjoyed the opening. The art: I loved it, honestly. The CGI gets a LOT of hate, but I think it was well done with only 1 or 2 minor flaws. The story: The plot was easy enough to follow along, even when I had no prior knowledge of it. The characters: I love Guts as a character, I think he is really cool. The enjoyment: I enjoyed every minute of it. I enjoyed it enough to rewatch it again at a later date, and I don't rewatch anime that often. OVERALL: I give this show a 9/10 in every category.

TLRD: Just because it's CGI doesn't mean it's automatically terrible. Once you get used to the CGI, it's the same Berserk we know, although there are a few things that get cut from the original manga but all in all it's a 7/10 for me. Yesterday I decided to catch up on the 1997 and OVA's of Berserk and decided to watch the 2016 adaptation and as of a few moments ago I finished the series and honestly, my opinion on it has changed entirely. The CGI while a bit wonky, isn't horrible. Is it good? No, but it's decent and has a lot of cool angles. The voice acting (As far as the English Dub goes) is top tier (As most Funimation projects) and the soundtrack is hard-hitting and edgy, not to mention that amazing opening from S1. At the end of the day, it's still Berserk, granted they changed a…
