Drifters

Introduction

At the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, Toyohisa Shimazu is the rearguard for his retreating troops, and is critically wounded when he suddenly finds himself in a modern, gleaming white hallway. Faced with only a stoic man named Murasaki and hundreds of doors on both sides, Toyohisa is pulled into the nearest door and into a world completely unlike his own. The strange land is populated by all manner of fantastical creatures, as well as warriors from different eras of Toyohisa's world who were thought to be dead. Quickly befriending the infamous warlord Nobunaga Oda and the ancient archer Yoichi Suketaka Nasu, Toyohisa learns of the political unrest tearing through the continent. Furthermore, they have been summoned as "Drifters" to fight against the "Ends," people who are responsible for the creation of the Orte Empire and are trying to annihilate the Drifters. As the Ends grow more powerful, so does the Empire's persecution of elves and other demihumans. It is up to Toyohisa and his group of unconventional heroes to battle in a brand-new world war to help the Empire's subjects, while challenging the Ends protecting the land to claim it for themselves. This show highkey kinda good. 🤩 It reminds me a lot of Records of Ragnarok in pretty much every aspect. They have very similar art styles and they use very similar premises, centered around historical figures and they even bring up a character that I wish more shows would play around with 👀... Anyways, the show feels very dark in its atmosphere and animation; they aren't afraid to bring up some of the more darker themes, but they love to use comedic effects to fill up empty space between plot points. Its very hard to figure out whether they want to take a more serious or comedic route with this show. One major issue with this show is they bring up a shit ton of historical figures that it feels impossible to truly enjoy this show if you aren't some expert world historian. They also don'…

Despite its different art, the anime tells an interesting and engaging story. But unfortunately, the more the story progresses, the more characters and the less depth they are given to them, the more boring the story becomes. The story ends in a continuation, but its continuation is released in scattered and very slow OVAs, so that after 10 years, the anime is still not finished properly and only 3 OVAs have been released. The anime is violent and in my opinion is not suitable for the age group under 14. However, its comedy parts are attractive. Although its visual art was different from common anime, I really liked the story, but unfortunately its continuation discouraged me. It's really a shame that an anime with such potential and a strong start continued so badly and turned into an ord…

I LOVED IT. The concept of this work is great, historical characters in another world, the idea is simply brilliant. Drifters mixes humor, politics, history, and fantasy in a wonderful way. I want a sequel, I'm anxiously waiting for it, and it's a sin that there isn't one. The characters are memorable, the animation is great, and the development is satisfying, everything is just right. It's definitely one of the best and most promising isekai created, so please say there will be a sequel because I can't wait millennia for a work of art like this anymore 😭. A SEQUEL PLEASEEEEE

I think drifters itself is one of the best isekais ever made, but unfortunately they dropped the series after season 1. About this show not like a random isekais that made by other studios, this show was stepping ahead with culture history and knowledge. Main and the best thing about this anime that you can really find historic people who lived in the past in different situations with different allies. Normally you would expect a cheap story written for a isekai but in contrast to others this one feels decent and offers a very well written storyline which is worth to watch for sure. I'll admit that, wish we could have seen more of some of the characters in their stories. In summary drifters is a decent pick for people who likes to watch some entertaining and short anime with different a…

Drifters has the makings of a great story. The idea of sending historical figures to a medieval fantasy world where they can duke it out and team up is a great idea with some amazing potential, however, Drifters manages to tell a very boring story where almost every aspect fails to meet expectations. The show is first and foremost an action show but the fights are generally boring to watch, with dozens of random nameless characters being mowed down practically every episode. When that isn't happening and the fights are supposed to between equal powers the show still can't make the fights interesting. One party is always dominating the other or one employs a tactic where they spend 90% of the fight running away. Its characters and writing are not good either; they are bland and generic st…

I quite enjoyed this show. Was it perfect? No — but it was funny, and I really liked the attempts to show the planning behind the battles. I found the characters genuinely amusing, and I enjoyed the mystery of what seems to be two gods fighting over the world. One obvious thing I didn’t like was the sudden cliff-hanger. I understand the studio was probably expecting a season two, but with the manga’s slow release stalling things, it would’ve been nice to at least get a few extra episodes here and there. Overall, it was pretty good, and I enjoyed watching it.

I am not a fan of Isekai and rarely even want to watch something representing this genre but Drifters surprised me positively. I stumbled upon it by YouTube video with a list of niche anime series and movies, which should get my (as potential viewer) attention – and Drifters certainly got mine. Concept of historical figures fighting with other historical figures in typical post-Tolkien fantasy world is something I've never seen before (don't take it too seriously as I don't consider myself very familliar with anime, let alone Isekai). However, it's not everything, since as Golden Kamuy enjoyer myself, very similar humour can be found. Expecting to be filled with action it's rather dialogue-oriented show and I find it positive considering its length. Still you won't be disappointed, becau…

This show has so many interesting building blocks and does absolutely nothing with them. The show is so clumsy in its handling of historical figures that it strips any interest that the characters had, and spends more time praising ADOLF HITLER than criticising him. These real iconic historical figures become grating, surface-level, and uninteresting action figures. There are so many attempts at comedy, but almost all of them fall flat. They bring the pacing to a standstill just to make sexist, homophobic, or gross-out jokes. The sexism and homophobia also extend to the character designs and treatment of the female characters in story. (They make these jokes at the expense of gay people, and then go out of their way to create fanservice of the only main feminine male character Yoichi?)…

You notice the familiarity with Kouta Hirano's "Hellsing", the style, the gags, the themes. STORY: • The plot is relatively straightforward with it being a large-scale war fought by two opposing sides. The Drifters along with the support of the Octobrist organisation are pitted against the Ends led by the notorious Black King. The Black King whose identity is shrouded in mystery, vows to destroy the world completely by erasing all types of civilizations to form his new empire. What makes this experience incredible, is that the characters in it, are real historical figures, otherwise, it would have been one of the usual military, isekai, historical anime. • The conflict between Easy and Murasaki isn't explained, what caused them to start sending people to this unidentified new world? • the…

Yes! Yes! Yes! This is what the fuck I’m talking about! Yes! This is entertainment! Kouta Hirano has made many unsuccessful attempts at grabbing the attention of the mainstream audience. His first big hit was the Hellsing manga. Drifters is his new project. Warriors from all eras are summoned into this parallel world to fight. You get to see characters such as Oda Nobunaga (of course, wouldn’t be an anime with historical characters without good ol’ Nobu), Hannibal Barca, Butch Cassidy, Scipio Africanus, Joan of Arc (again, of course), Grigori Rasputin, and many others. I cannot describe how much fun this series is. It’s an action-packed thriller from start to finish. The action slows down every now and again, but it never stops for a breather. The show must go on. For the most part, it’s…

It is a very good military anime as it combines elements of military strategies, tactics, doctrines, and moral aspects from our world to another world. The story revolves around a war between two sides—one that aims to exterminate humanity and another that wants to preserve it with certain conditions. Warriors, intellectual figures, political leaders, generals, and other personalities are summoned to another world to fight for each side of the story. Joining one side or the other depends on the character's personality or memories from their past life. The anime is visually appealing, and I like this style, similar to Hellsing Ultimate, which effectively emphasizes the physical expressions of the characters, such as the expressions on their faces. The anime includes some comedic moments…

I like the show's premise since I love world history and am familiar with many of the historical figures featured in the show. It starts with only Japanese heroes and quickly introduces other icons like Joan of Arc from France or Hannibal the Conqueror. While some of these additions may seem a little strange, like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, who don't match the level of legendary figures included representing the USA. Also, Admiral Tamon Yamaguchi, despite playing an important role in Japan's history, has nothing to do with the story. However, it does provide an excellent reason for us to investigate the true stories behind the real characters. The characters and their taste for violence are endearingly fun to watch, with each character given careful attention to feel distinct. Th…

Drifters, a show where dozens of notable, prominent historical war figures are summoned to a fantasy world for seemingly no other reason than to see how they would re-shape it through war. Through tactics, strategy, and technology. Animation / Art / General Visuals - 9/10 ----------------------------------------------- Drifters looks amazing. From art design, to rendering, to animations. Great use of shadows and lighting, subtle 3D. It's all very good. If nothing else, the visual spectacle is very enjoyable. Serious tones and gore are also broken apart with comedic art to lighten the mood. Silliness in just the right measure. Sound / Music / Voice Acting - 9/10 ------------------------------------------ Top tier OP and ED, great OST through-out, solid voice acting and sound effects. T…

Excellent anime. Loved all the history references and the ingenuity that is brought to the table from all. I really enjoyed how I could learn about Japanese history and simultaneously watch an intriguing story unfold. The animation was also pretty good and the action scenes were great. The relatively gritty art style fit every character and their personalities. There could have been an exploration or world building experience inside of the world itself that could have been taken to another level. The story was unique in that it brought characters from all over Japanese history to compete and fight in a medieval-esque world. Can't wait for season 2 to be released!

Story-8/10 As the story starts we are immediately thrown into the battle that the protagonist was fighting,The abilities and the personality of the MC along with the eye catching animation hooked me immediately. As the MC is about to bleed out he gets transported into another world and teams up with other historical figures and together they try to save the world. Charachters-9/10 Not much to say here as most of the characters in this show are quite interesting with their own unique personalities and backgrounds. It was also nice to see how historical figures are portrayed in this show. Art-8/10 The art style is pretty eye catching. The sudden changes to the animation style added to the humor of the show and the fight scenes are pretty well done and kept me excited throughout. Overalll-…

Drifters is one of those anime that's a mile wide but an inch deep. Upon first inspection everything seems to be there, like a cool aesthetic, intriguing concept, and flashy fight scenes, but once you spend any time with it you realize there's no substance beyond that. Unfortunately, what nets Drifters the score it does is that the cool stuff we're presented with isn't nearly cool enough to make up for a lack of substance. If there's going to be nothing under the hood, you've got to at least go all out on impressing the viewer, but Drifters fails to utilize its otherwise badass style in a powerful and consistent enough manner to achieve this. This major flaw is made worse by the fact that this comes from the mind of Kouta Hirano, the man behind the masterpiece that is Hellsing. To see some…

It's really gay anime and Im serious, have a lot of homosexual jokes, ambiguous situations and threads, I think this anime should have yaoi tag, character like Hrabia de Saint-Germain maybe in history accurate with extravagance, look really sterotypical and people would name him "groomer". So some watchers can fell offensive watching it in my opinion. About historical accurate, well it depend, as character aspects I can assume are ok as whole character is a creation of anime authors. It's just anime and even historians create personality for historical persons, so I can't blame if some persons are styreotypicall or have only sharpened individual characteristics traits. It's fiction it's for fun but have some historical trivia. And I really like it. I wanna see Barcas with big anime sword i…

This anime (Drifters) is definitely one of those shows that comprises an astounding and extraordinary plot that induces numerous potentials and prospects that would doubtlessly become an unparalleled masterpiece but fails to as a result of poor and appalling execution of extremely imperative aspects in the internals of the story. The first major and most conspicuous flaw of this anime is indisputably the redundant and the elongated introduction to characters that were subsequently rendered meaningless and fatuous to the story. The characters that this anime divulged to us didn't indulge in any activity that would eventually transform into something crucial perhaps, a significant turn of events. The profusely dissatisfying feature of this series is probably the displeasing and the non-exi…

Art & Music: • Adapting the same style as Hellsing Ultimate - I absolutely love the dramatic lighting & colors, obscure camera angles, and outstanding art direction. I wish more anime could use this design style - it fully attenuates the charismatic and intense characters and the maliciousness of war as the overarching theme. • A beautiful combination of CGI and stunning hand-drawn characters, the animation is also magnificent • The music is a great complement overall, making the series extremely exciting and enjoyable. Story & Character: • Hirano Kouta has a tremendous talent at creating captivating characters. Though with different personalities, all the main characters are unique, charming, and charismatic whether they are evil or selfish. The added humor at times was also quite enjo…

I am writing this after watching the series for the second time. The first time I saw it was when it came out many years ago, 2016 the anime premiered. It is from the same author as Hellsing, it shows it has a lot of quality, both in the plot and in the character design. The anime uses historical characters and puts them to fight in a world of magic and fantasy but each character gives the anime a special characteristic, some are more political than others, others just want to kill and kill all this together makes us see a very entertaining anime without a second season for now it's been 6 years and well it doesn't look like there's going to be a second season. But as they say, hope is the last thing to lose. I love a historical reference to the sacred squad of Thebes that for those who do…
