Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works]

Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works]

Introduction

The Holy Grail War is a battle royale among seven magi who serve as Masters. Masters, through the use of the command seals they are given when they enter the war, command Heroic Spirits known as Servants to fight for them in battle. In the Fifth Holy Grail War, Rin Toosaka is among the magi entering the competition. With her Servant, Archer, she hopes to obtain the ultimate prize—the Holy Grail, a magical artifact capable of granting its wielder any wish. One of Rin's classmates, Shirou Emiya, accidentally enters the competition and ends up commanding a Servant of his own known as Saber. As they find themselves facing mutual enemies, Rin and Shirou decide to form a temporary alliance as they challenge their opponents in the Holy Grail War. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I don’t remember exactly what I wrote down about the others Fate, but this one, well, as usual, we know the plot, we know the story. I think it’s one of the first ones I watched. In any case, it dates back to 2014, so it’s not exactly recent, but honestly, it’s really well done. As usual, the animation and the fights are one of its strong points. It’s a visual slap every time, with the music… Basically, the entire soundtrack is also really good. But honestly, I think this was one of the first Fate anime I watched, and it immediately got me into the series. The plot is cool, there are some major plot twists, and there are some extremely interesting characters. And that’s it, really: nothing but positives. I really enjoyed it and I recommend it. Favorite character: Kiritsugu Emiya

I don't think people should be introduced to Fate with this particular anime. Here I loosely explain why, avoiding spoilers as much as possible. I've personally never loved this version, especially this first half. In my opinion, although quite good, it's the weakest of the main three routes and the prequel. The animation was unarguably one of the best of its time, but the overall atmosphere feels way too cold, lacking a heart: Even though it summarizes the main aspects of the route in a very flowed way, it fails weak at developing the relationships between the characters. Despite the censorship, the other route adaptations do make it clear that the anime is based on erogue, romantic novels with occasional comedy, whereas the Unlimited Blade Works of Ufotable mostly focuses on the war e…

Nowadays, the Fate franchise might've aged quite badly, except for Fate/Zero. The tropes might seem overdone, with many of its characters seeming dull (namely, Shirou to most of the audience). That being said, Fate, especially the Fate/Stay Night series, has been a masterpiece of an adaptation given its original context. The entire Fate franchise stemmed from an Eroge visual novel in 2004, and, being an Eroge, it often uses dissatisfying tropes like harems or dull MCs. Ufotable, under Nasu's supervision, was able to undermine many of the previous issues associated with turning a multi-hour-long Eroge into both a visual and narrative stunner. Obviously, there would be some issues regardless of when they put that many hours into a 25-episode anime, but they've done their darnedest job never…

Action is Win, Romance is Fail There are 2 primary elements worth mentioning: action and romance. The action is SUPERB. Animation, choreography, sound effects, everything is top tier. Kinda wish they'd tone down the monologues, but it's anime. Whaddyagonnado. The romance is thoroughly lame. First, I cannot express how much I hate the tsundere archetype. "Prone to domestic abuse" makes for a garbage human being. It does NOT equal depth or relatability. PLEASE talk to someone who's been in an actual relationship for more than 5 minutes. I'm BEGGING you. Second, the "love story" concludes on yet another big fat nothing sandwich. They're supposedly in a relationship by the epilogue, but... no kiss, no holding hands, and future plans are all variations on "let's go on adventures together!" Wh…

1 step forward, 2 steps back compared to the Studio Deen Fate anime imo The art is much more... technologically advanced? This show came out a little under a decade after FSN Deen and it does show, although for better or for worse, this is a Ufotable anime. In my opinion, it's for the worse. This show has the sort of atmosphere that feels less like a lived-in anime and more "look at all the budget we can pour into this anime!" The fight scenes are the biggest example. I don't want to say it's "overanimated" per se but there's a certain, overly flashy style of fights Ufotable has and going out of your way to show off how Fucking Cool your fights are takes me out a little because it seems like you're more concerned with flashy hype Twitter clips than telling the story, even if the story d…

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works is Ufotable’s most recognizable work, even a decade after its debut, and that’s by no means an accident. UBW is amazing, a rare occasion for a film adaptation that surpasses the original work. UBW adapts the prologue and second narrative route (Unlimited Blade Works) of the 2004 visual novel Fate/stay night by Kinoko Nasu. Nasu’s talent as a writer is what made FSN such a success; the original story is incredible: its portrayal of the heroic ideal, bombastic action, and timely comedy, mixed with Nasu’s characteristic character subtlety, make for a truly entertaining story. The narrative structure of FSN (three diverging narrative routes) is also something to be lauded. However, FSN wasn’t perfect. Looking back on it two decades after its release,…

Fate is known and respected by many but even with all the love it gets, I still feel like this show is not praised enough. From amazing visual effects to incredible animation, everybody is aware that this series is beautiful. However something that's not being talked about enough is how amazing the OSTs are, how good the concept of the show is and how well its written especially compared to other shows that set the bar for "amazing animation". This show doesn't only give you visuals. The narrative of the story is predictable but has plenty of plot twists, and when I say "predictable" I mean it puts everything in front of your face so you could guess what's about to happen, but there are so many things in plain sight that there is no way you don't miss some. Obviously this is only the par…

Ah, dear reader, permit me to regale you with my cogitations upon the animated opus known as "Fate/Stay Night." One finds oneself transported to an ethereal realm, a milieu steeped in the mystic arts, where the tapestry of fate and fortune unfurls before our very eyes. This remarkable cinematic endeavor, hailing from the land of the rising sun, possesses an allure that ensnares the senses and beguiles the soul. The narrative unfolds with the elegance of a finely crafted timepiece, presenting a tableau of mages and heroic spirits, engaged in a ruthless contest for the Holy Grail—a vessel of unimaginable power. Within this confluence of destiny and determination, the characters, like finely cut gemstones, each bear a distinct brilliance, their facets revealing both depth and complexity. Ou…

Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] Season 1 has taken the original Fate route's writing and elevated it to new heights with breathtaking animation and an intriguing exploration of alternate universes. As someone who revisited this installment , I was thrilled by the fresh take on the story and the improved portrayal of its central protagonist. Let's dive into what makes this season a compelling watch, while also addressing its few shortcomings. First and foremost, the animation quality is nothing short of spectacular. The visual feast that the animation studio delivers consistently throughout the season is a feast for the eyes. The battles are fluid and dynamic, showcasing the intricate choreography of the battles within the Holy Grail War. The vibrant colours and attention to detail…

ufotable, as a studio, has done wonders in the animation department regarding demon slayer: kimetsu no yaiba and the fate franchise. Criticize each series all you want, you cannot deny the animation quality. Fate as a series fluctuates between and action/fantasy and a slice-of-life kind of series. As it goes along the action does become more and more frequent. I wouldn't say the series was as thrilling as a code geass or steins;gate, it kept enough suspense for the next episode. Plot [8/10] Without a doubt the strongest element of fate so far. The watch order I am using (and have been recommended) puts fate/stay night ahead of fate/zero. So far it's been pretty intriguing. Essentially our MC gets thrown into a war in which he can't exactly refuse to participate but willfully chooses to d…

This anime is such a good anime. This season and season 2 were so entertaining and each episode was nearly perfect. Ufotable did such a good job with this adaptation. I haven’t read the Visual Novels but I still think that ufotable did a good job with this route. All the characters were well written and portrayed none of them felt flat. The story is very engaging and it was never boring. I think that absolutely everyone will enjoy this anime it starts off a bit slow the first ep but by the 3rd it is extremely entertaining and it only gets even more entertaining the more you watch.

Well, I suppose Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works isn't the worst anime I've ever seen. I mean, the story is pretty decent, if you're into that sort of thing. You've got your typical hero who's destined to save the world, a bunch of other characters with their own agendas, and a whole lot of fighting. It's not exactly groundbreaking, but it's good enough to keep you interested. As for the main characters, they're...nice. I mean, they're not exactly the most memorable bunch, but they're not terrible either. You've got your brooding protagonist, your spunky heroine, and a bunch of other characters with their own quirks. They're not exactly original, but they're good enough to get the job done. Now, let's talk about the music. It's...okay. I mean, it's not exactly Beethoven, but it's n…

Decent anime, God tier animations but the protagonist is still as bad as before. If you watched fate / stay night then you probably know that Shirou Emiya is one annoying protagonist. He is full of himself, only knows how to talk big but never does anything. Why so? Well because he's weak obviously. But getting into risky situations where people need to save you just because 'I won't let them die' is getting on my nerves. Shirou despite being weak himself, weakens the other characters since they have to help him and therefore the plot is full of those fake heroic moments. It's good if he suceeds time to time but he never does, so why putting this in the plot? The romance moments are better than Fate / stay night but still a bit unnatural and forced. Although they really did, get better.…

this is about a young boy who wishes to save everyone in his sight but at what cost? if you like a good balance between action, slice of life, romance and mythology then you should love this anime, just as i do. i would say that this is a very good summery of the visual novel. if you want a strong storyline you should just read the visual novel, it goes into more depth. eg; better world building and character development. so it will make a little more sense especially if you play with the original scenes that got cut out and replaced to make it PG. many say the the replacement scenes do not fit into the story as well. summery: all in all this series has a powerful well rounded storyline that keeps you coming back for more. there is enough dynamic to keep you from becoming bored, it is no…

Where is the story? After completing it on the strength of the animation alone, I realized Shirou has so little personality that my brain somehow achieved the unprecedented feat of learning muscle memory, as in whenever this garbage character's mouth began to animate, my brain shut off and went on a vacation to something, anything more interesting, such as summoning memories of corporate meetings with interns freshly out of university who only know how to say "synergy, win win, vis a vis, breakeven point". I could maybe tolerate this garbage "protagonist" if the plot is actually interesting, but the plot can be described as "hack of a writer who has no clue how writing works reads half of the first paragraph about legendary figures on wikipedia, turns them into cute girls, and makes them…

The storyline is bullshit, the time allocated to the non-development of the love story between Rin and Shirou is 10 times more than whats left for the actual story. Avoid watching it, unless u want to watch a romance anime, in that case watch some better romances. Theres not anything else to say other than it was a waste of time, they adopted 50 minutes episode so that they could dilute even more the story with fillers about shirou and his harem. I dont know how to reach the minimum words so ill keep adding now i think it hould be enough

My first dive into Fate. I couldn't slog through Fate Stay Night by Studio Deen but I was coming in optimistic for this one. Story: 8/10 Kind of a Battle Royale-esq fantasy battle set in modern Japan. Emiya is a novice in this race and has to catch up. Luckily, he has the help of Rin Tohsaka, a fellow student who has been preparing for the Grail War her entire life. Art: 9/10 UBW has some of the best art, animation, and fights I've ever seen. Considering its 8 years old from this review, UBW more than holds up. Character: 7/10 Emiya is the typical shounen naive and justice-orientated character. However, he comes across as inconsistent. Enjoyment: 7/10 Could have been easily an 8/10 for me but not quite for spoiler reasons below. Overall: 7/10 Spoilers ahead! I didn't follow wh…

The anime is very good, the only thing that is makes it very slow. Many dialogues here and there. It seems like they never finish talking about things and it's like really boring. Also thanks to that you have a lot of character development because it shows you how they think and what they think of each decision they make, that is, it is good and bad. The animation is excellent, I have no complaints, the truth is that it surprises me, on top of that we have a new RIN girl who is beautiful. The soundtrack is not bad and neither is the character design, the only thing that strikes me as curious is that the children follow their parents' distance. I liked that. The anime is not bad but I expected more action like last season. En español: El anime esta muy bien, lo unico que sea hace muy lento.…

I am betting you ended up here looking at reviews, because someone told you about the Fate series and now you are finally deciding to watch it. OR you are a fan of the series already and were probably excited to see an updated version of your show. I am currently in the second half of this, and I am pretty darn entertained! I watched Zero and Stay/Night and was a little apprehensive about watching this because I already know what happens, but in all honesty it has been worth the time. Story: Better in a lot of ways and more fleshed out for important characters. It isn't the same as Stay/Night, and that's OK! Animation: It looks like they had a bigger budget AND time. Unheard of. Characters: They aren't as clunky in conversation, and they make choices that stick to what they would do. Ther…

You just posted a review on Fate. You criticized it. The sound of a horn flares off in the distance, followed by the crescendo of drums banging in a slow pattern. You wince your eyes at the rising sun, trying to find the location of the racket. Eastwards, you look. Your heart plummets at the sight of a million black banners held up in the air; a red picture of Emiya Shirou's command seals stitched. And then, you hear a voice as loud as thunder crackling, it overwhelms the drum pattern. "I am the bone of my sword," in Engrish. With your hands trembling like jelly, you start the sign of the cross. Cold sweat runs down your forehead and your clothes make you feel over encumbered. "Steel is my body and fire is my blood." You resonate with the words. Your body is boiling hot and the weigh…
