It's hard to write a coherent review on a title that's bland and has not even a single outstanding part. Simply because there's not much to talk about.
Overlord is such a title. There's some premise that's not really interesting, overpowered MC who got Isekai'd. There's some characters with their traits. There's a fantasy world with kingdoms and magic. But it felt like there's no plot. Some things just happened in the span of 13 episodes, and I can't connect them in a way that would result in at least a bit immersive and involving plot.
As expected of Madhouse, the title is kinda well-made. Animation is in place, sounds are in place, CG is in place. But there was nothing that caught my attention. I expected at least a cool mastermind demon woman which is Albedo and she's one of the reaso…

First time I watched this show was October 7th, 2015, now over a decade later I am re-watching and I enjoyed it just as much. Overlord is a solid isekai, but considering the protagonist is a magic caster, I wished we had more attention to that part of the action, for instance, the melee action is fine, even when they are mixing hand drawn animation and CGI, but when it comes to the magic part the spells are very boring looking, and the buffs the characters give themselves are mild (eg: they cast a resistance buff, green overlight, they cast fly, blue overlight, maybe you will see an overlight with a few CGI details, but that's it, very boring). However, everything else about it is good, Ainz is interesting as a protagonist, Momon is also interesting - even though you might raise some quest…

There's nothing particularly good about Overlord. It is an average, watchable anime without any major faults - but also without any significant virtues either. It doesn't greatly develop any of its plot points, nor does it excel at animation/art/music.
I can't really think about much to say regarding it. I almost got too bored by episode 11 when the final big fight happens because it is a 2-episode long fight comprised of 90% exposition and dialogue between 2 characters in the middle of nowhere (so original...). But it was entertaining enough otherwise.
It ends in a mild cliffhanger that doesn't really make you interested in a continuation, making it a good enough watch on its own if you don't plan on watching the trashy sequels.

Well, Overlord Season 1 is a Dark Isekai Masterpiece with strong Seinen vibes. Straight up — this is the real deal.
I’ve sat through so much mediocre, brainless isekai garbage lately that when something like this drops, it feels like a proper upgrade. This is what I call “the thinking man’s isekai.” It actually has a brain and isn’t scared to use it.
From the very first episode it commits to the bit: we’re following the villain, and there’s no hand-holding or forced redemption. Ainz is out here building a terrifying empire while the rest of the world slowly realizes how screwed they are. The political layers, the cold strategy, and the sheer hopelessness of the humans facing Nazarick make it feel much more mature than your average isekai. Season 1 sets the whole thing up beautifully.
Ainz…

For isekai or general "protagonist with special powers" driven anime there are a number of tropes, none of which are much of an issue to me personally. I like seeing the hero win (Shield Hero). I like seeing the villain win (Tokyo Ghoul). I like seeing a complex character win who has both good and bad within them dependent on the situation; someone who grows alongside the show's runtime (re:zero). I like isakei which does not pretend to be more than some jane doe self insert; despite it not being high class media it at the end of the day remains brutally honest with me about it's intensions and can easily then go on to prove itself with metaphysical depth rather than the psychological (Hell Mode). I like the opposite too in the genre, isakei which achieves what it intends to achieve and th…

It's a decent anime, although it feels disjointed and lacks focus due to the overwhelming number of characters. While the storyline has potential, the execution is lacking.
Throughout seasons 1 to 4, there are too many events occurring, none of which offer a satisfying conclusion. Several subplots feel abandoned, while others are rushed or unnecessary.
The character count is excessive, which detracts from the overall impact. In terms of action, it's just okay; the skill sets are solid but not groundbreaking.
The world-building aspect is enjoyable and reminiscent of the "Lord of the Rings" franchise, but I believe it could have been developed further.
The voice acting is pleasant, and the music scores are decent. Both the opening and ending songs are okay but not particularly memorable.…

At first, this anime seems to be a typical isekai story about someone who is sent to another world and forced to live there. However, despite the mainstream isekai plot, this anime presents many interesting aspects, such as the changes to the world and the intrigues within it.
The characters in this anime are equally interesting, too. There are NPCs from Nazarick who are the main character's subordinates. They were created by the main character's old friends. These NPCs are depicted as having greater powers than some of the adventurers revealed this season.
There are also adventurers. Some of those revealed in season one are depicted as having lesser powers than the Nazarick NPCs.
I think most viewers will prefer the final arc of the season, which centres on Shalltear's betrayal. After a…

i have seen a lot of anime in my time. This anime is phenomenal. i tend to re watch this regularly, i dont even get how people cannot recommend this. This is closest to DnD genre which every proper gamer must like. Of course i am reviewing all seasons at once. To this day there hasnt been a better superhero isekai anime. seriously try to name one. The fact i am writing this review implies how good this anime is. Also it is my first and most likely only review, if youre reading this youre a legend. I genuinely wish there was a game like Overlord but isnt.

This is a good show overall, although it's uneven at times.
I've seen it labelled as a "dark political thriller", but it changes quite a bit from season to season. At first it's more like an action-adventure as Ainz tries to explore the surroundings of where he's been teleported to. Since the MC was level 100 in the previous MMO, the main gag is that he's ludicrously overpowered. Things go a little too easy for Ainz, but the show really leans into that. Not only is he personally extremely strong, but the world also keeps bending over to let him fall backwards into taking the perfect moves every time by accident. It's amusing watching the story contort itself so he keeps failing upwards. The show does this power fantasy fairly well, about a tier below what Solo Leveling achieved. S1 also…

Overall, it’s not bad—the concept is interesting, and the battles are decent.
But there’s nothing exceptional here, nothing that truly blew me away. One thing I never quite understood was why Momonga didn’t seem too bothered about being stuck in the game or why he wasn’t trying to get back to the real world. Was it because the system kept him calm and he got used to it? Even so, I kept wondering about this every episode, waiting for it to be addressed.
Honestly, I feel like the target audience for this anime is probably teenagers. It was watchable—not boring—but also not particularly gripping. When I finished the first season, I moved on to the second, but I could barely make it through the first episode. I couldn’t even finish the second one. The beginning of season two felt completely l…

As a anime watcher that like Iskeai animes
OVERLORD IS THE BEST STORY ISKEAI IN ALL THE TIME.
AIZEN is one of the Best characters I have see in anime World.
A very clever schemer, kind expert and exploiter as mentioned in the novel.
The story of Overlord is simply a story of wars, strategies, and even things you wouldn't expect to see in any isekai anime.

The trend has become as recognizable as isekai- the monster/villain isekai, but this show was one of the ones that started that trend. Seeing a normal dweeby gamer thrust into the role of BBEG, and the exploration of the world through his eyes as he explores his new role is fun, and the action both active and more subtle is very fun.
That said, it does follow into some animeisms that may turn people off. Odds are, there will be one character that just rubs you the wrong way, and a dozen that you’ll wish got more screen time. Not to mention the constant usage of video game speak in its implementation is clumsy as hell, and takes a lot away from the immersion. It’s by no means perfect, but it’s a great example of it’s niche, and worth a look.

Overlord Season 1 delivers a unique twist on the isekai genre by centering the story around an overpowered undead anti-hero who rules a loyal but dangerous cast of NPCs in a dark, immersive fantasy world. While some plot points are predictable due to the protagonist's overwhelming strength, the series remains enjoyable for fans of power fantasies and morally complex storytelling. The art style effectively complements the gothic tone of the narrative, and although not all characters are deeply developed, the main cast is compelling and consistent within the world’s logic. Viewers who appreciate strategic, villain-led stories will likely enjoy it, but those seeking emotional relatability or balanced conflicts might find it less engaging. Despite its flaws, Overlord stands out for its atmosph…

Like I said before, whenever I want to write reviews, I tend to procrastinate, even though I still end up writing a long one.
Story : It seems that Overlord is one of those isekai anime where the protagonist gets trapped in a game world. However, unlike typical stories, this time he appears to be transported to a completely new world after the game shuts down—along with his entire guild base, Nazarick, and its powerful NPCs. To his shock, these NPCs begin to develop their own personalities, no longer bound by simple programming. As the story unfolds, Ainz Ooal Gown, formerly known as Momonga, explores this mysterious world while maintaining his role as the all-powerful overlord, trying to understand his surroundings and possibly find others from the real world.
If you're a fan of MMORPGs…

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of how to explain why I love this show so much is "It's like Sword Art Online, but done right." and of course I'll have to explain because there are some people who loved SAO and others who hated it, so here's why I say that:
Right off the bat, I don't think my SAO comparison is a great one, it's just the first thing that comes to my mind. This is a dark-fasntasy anime compared to SAO's light hearted happy-go-lucky story. The MC get transported into a videogame where now he's living in it as if he's been isekai'd into a new world. However, the world he finds himself in isn't exactly a 1:1 of the videogame he's spent years playing. Several things seem to be slightly different from the game, so even with his near encyclopedic level knowledge o…

low key the only show that does the whole reincarnation shtick properly in an oversaturated and overdone genre. after you watch Overlord every other similar show becomes so ahh. It really captures the grim and dark vibes of old mmorpg games like warcraft 3 or RuneScape imo. The artsytle also adds to that and it stands out from the rest of it's contenders. The story is kind of basic but it can be pretty fun. The show gives you the rich worlds of mmo's without having to sell your soul and spend your children's tuition money on every new shiny bunnysuit gear that these kind of games drop every week lol. my only beef with this show is that it only comes back like every 5 years but other than that i love it.
the openings are bangers btw.

Why Overlord is Good
Overlord is a sort of story classically reviled by people who don’t see past appearances. A main character occupies a mean, insignificant societal role. He is isekai’d into a world where he has enormous power. Nothing about this is “fair.” People are supposed to earn what they have, aren’t they? Further, in an environment where it seems he can snap his finger and get whatever he wants, where is the drama?
If you want to attain that next level of appreciating stories, you must understand that “winning” against the “final boss” is not what stories are “about.” Happy endings are not what a story is about. The fact that there is little narrative tension around whether Momonga can defeat enemies in this unnamed world is not a flaw, because that’s not what this story is ab…

As someone who typically avoids isekai anime due to their predictable tropes—overpowered protagonists, harems, and often "copy & paste" premises—I was surprised by Overlord's first season. Despite my initial skepticism, it left me with a fairly positive impression, though not without its flaws.
The story kicks off with the familiar trope of a protagonist trapped in a fantasy world, but with a refreshing twist. Instead of the usual hero's journey, we follow Momonga, later Ainz Ooal Gown, who finds himself stuck in the virtual reality MMORPG, Yggdrasil, after its servers shut down. Unlike the typical isekai protagonist, Ainz isn't an adventurer or a random hero; he's the skeletal overlord of the most powerful guild, Nazarick, surrounded by NPC subordinates who suddenly gain sentience. This…

To sum up this terrible anime its like playing world of Warcraft as horde undead just upset over little pvp in game your playing then getting friends being op player joining that world as only player than murdering real people to advance he plans but thing is he has none its never explains why as human with thoughts feelings his undead character avatar why he thinks ok killing thousands yet cant deal with gross monster girls coming onto him seems its to try and add fan service and laughs yet doesn't at all with everything else going on.
The first season he seem to have goal searching for his friends but that plot drops off a cliff as following seasons its not even mentioned just more OP MC winning everything nothing going wrong side/support characters basically just cheering squad never a…

Surprisingly good.
The animation is decent enough. It's not overly flashy or pretty, but it serves well in most scenes and rarely detracts from the show. The CGI is quite abysmal, but it is used somewhat sparingly and usually fits whatever it's portraying well enough.
The background is a standard video game isekai, nothing to write home about, and for at least the first season there isn't much world-building so far. However, will how much of the series is left, I assume this will change.
The characters are well-written enough. Those who are supposed to have depth do, and those who are supposed to be 2d caricatures are.
The fight scenes are nothing crazy or stand-outish, but the spells and buffs used do feel very MMO-RPG like. You could imagine it as a real PvP scene in a game like clas…
