Claymore

Claymore

Introduction

When a shapeshifting demon with a thirst for human flesh, known as "youma," arrives in Raki's village, a lone woman with silver eyes walks into town with only a sword upon her back. She is a "Claymore," a being manufactured as half-human and half-youma, for the express purpose of exterminating these monsters. After Raki's family is killed, the Claymore saves his life, but he is subsequently banished from his home. With nowhere else to go, Raki finds the Claymore, known as Clare, and decides to follow her on her journeys. As the pair travel from town to town, defeating youma along the way, more about Clare's organization and her fellow warriors comes to light. With every town cleansed and every demon destroyed, they come closer to the youma on which Clare has sought vengeance ever since she chose to become a Claymore. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

There's a lot to like about Claymore; almost as much as there is to make you groan, eye-roll, or check your phone in between its shining moments. I'd say Claymore's biggest flaw at face value is its lack of depth, but even then, there’s depth of character to counter this claim… Sometimes. Basically, Claymore is somewhat complicated. Having binged-watched the anime in two days with plans to pick up the finished manga, I can at least say I like Claymore more than I hate it, but it definitely has a lot of recurring bad habits that I most certainly do (HATE). Starting positive, Claymore takes the route of a dark, dismal world that is (intentionally or not) presented as disconnected, disorganized, and deprived of hope. It technically falls into the genre, but ‘Dark Fantasy’ doesn’t always see…

Clare is trying to find humanity in this dreary, dead world. I had to rewatch this after so long to give it a fair review. This show has a strong plot. It is very interesting, and it is extremely dark. It is not afraid to kill someone, old or new; it doesn't matter. Anybody could be fair game in Claymore. The artwork was very special because it really showcases that death could be right around the corner at all times, even from your own kin. It is not bright, it is not vibrant, it is dark and drained of all life. The core cast, and even the side cast (-Raki), were all very interesting to watch as they slowly started to humanize themselves while pushing their powers further and further. The power system was a really cool concept. You can push the youma inside your body right to the brink…

General: A really good anime that tells the adventures of Yoma, monsters that live by eating intestines, and Claymores, the soldiers of the organization that hunts them. Although described simply as above, it's a successful anime with high watchability and suspense, and it's not that simple. While some people find the fast-paced fights and lack of detail to be negatives, I want to mention that it didn't bother me. Good Sides: - I really liked the gothic atmosphere and the female Claymore characters. I especially loved Clare and Teresa. - I think the way the story is handled and the anime lives up to its category. Bad Sides: - Definitely the whiny Raki character. A character who cries all the time and constantly mentions Clare becomes annoying after a while. It would have been better if…

Ahhh. The dark fantasy known as Claymore. I seem to be unable to get this one out of my mind. It's been about a month since I finished it, and yet I find myself STILL thinking about it. It's like a mystical ghost that haunts me, occasionally popping it's head up and saying, "BOOOOOOOO!!!". It definitely has a sort of reverberating after effect. I guess I would describe it like this.. Remember seeing "The Wizard of Oz" as a kid, and being fascinated by this completely wondrous new world that you were just then discovering? It's pretty much like that, except replace the word 'wondrous' with 'dark'. I can't really put my finger on it, but watching Claymore gave me a nostalgic kind of feeling. Probably partly due to the dated animation style and the way the voice acting was captured, which…

I love Claymore, and the anime is great for about 2/3 of it, until the final episodes stop following the manga. Why? Because at the time, there was indeed more content, but nowhere near enough to reach the end, so they decided to just end it there with a made-up ending, and sadly, not a very good one. I truly recommend you watch it, get excited, and then read the manga. It's a masterpiece. I think this series is one of the few that deserves a complete remake that follows the manga from start to finish. Wish I could give it a better Rating, since the manga is a 10, but the ending has to be accounted for in the anime.

Claymore is a complete masterpiece. While watching, you'll notice and recognize similarities to popular anime, but the difference is that it feels original. You can tell it was created by someone, and it's really rare to feel that way about anything these days. It draws you in before it even starts and doesn't bore you. You can tell it was a little rushed, but it was still very good. Personally, I love shows that contain both hate and all kinds of love. Even though the character designs were similar and most had similar storylines, it was still able to show emotions, and that was beautiful. Also, after seeing so many weak female side characters, it was great to see strong female characters. !-----Spoiler-------! The only slightly unsettling part was Clare kissing Raki knowing he was a c…

It was peak years ago before I read the manga. Then, I read the manga. Anime outpacing manga has always been a big issue, I suppose. It’s just annoying to see a show you loved entirely closed off because it decided to make a different ending instead of holding out hope. I’m probably biased because I love Miria and want more content of her. Nonetheless, it’s a fantastic show, and absolutely the best as far as female characters go. There is not a single character I dislike, which is rare considering I normally hate the vast majority of a cast. The storyline is well-paced and engaging, the OST, intro, and outro perfect, and the artsyle so damned beautiful. It would be a ten, had I not read the manga and known just how good life could’ve been. So, just both watch and read Claymore.

I really didn't like Claymore, and it's not due to a lack of technical quality. Claymore is undoubtedly a well-produced work in many aspects. The world is brutal, violent, and charged with a heavy atmosphere that immediately grabs your attention. The dark setting works, the character design is striking (especially the Claymore warriors with their cold and standardized visuals), and the soundtrack greatly helps to sustain this oppressive mood. Technically, the care taken is evident. The problem, at least for me, lies in something more subjective: charisma. A large part of the cast seems too distant. The characters are, for the most part, very emotionally restrained, which makes sense within the work's premise (since they are half human, half monster), but this ends up creating a barrier.…

" Poor Man berserk " Claymore is a saga which describes a great demon hunter fantasy with likeable characters and an intriguing atmosphere. This is the kind of show that can be over in one sitting. The flow that makes a anime watchable is perfect here , it has a natural progression that can allow viewers to get lost in depth . This is my 2nd re watch in a while , my memories are still fresh like how I managed to watch this in VHS era . The story is centered on a mysterious organization that controls warriors named claymore who hunts yoma , at first you might think they are doing social service but in reality they manipulating from shadows for alter motives . The world that claymore builds is dark, depressing and brutal. The monsters are terrifying and a normal person has almost 0 hope of…

Often compared to other dark-fantasy anime like Berserk, it contains superficial similarities but none of the substance. On the surface, there is a feudal European setting and both series concern the exploits of stoic mercenaries who fight demons. Sadly, Claymore carries none of the interesting political maneuvering or the complicated relationship dynamics informed by trauma. Instead, it decides to focus on a more straightforward plot-structure concerning a half-human/demon heroine who must rise to the challenge to fight increasingly stronger monsters and control her demonic impulses. A route like this is acceptable if the show displays strong animation, fight choreography and a sense of strategy. Regrettably, it tends to use lots of still frames and repeats cuts of animation. After a whil…

I was hooked from the very first episode. Nowadays, a lot of anime feel oversaturated or overly childish, but this one is the complete opposite. The setting is fantastic, and I love how each town portrayed in the episodes carries that strong medieval vibe, it really pulled me in. Clare’s character is outstanding, and while Raki can be a bit irritating at times, I could still tolerate him. At times the pacing felt a little too fast. Spoiler alert: they made us grow attached to some characters only for them to be gone by the next episode. The ending was definitely a choice. Overall, I’m glad this ended up as my 100th anime, it was a great ride.

I came about watching this anime after scrolling through anime recommendations through Short form content. People praised the anime highly and did it live up to the praise....i believe so! The plot of the anime is relatively straight forward to follow with more twists and turns shown and developed throughout the show. It is important to note that the Manga does have a different ending to the anime. Clare as a character is very cool and it is fun to see a female lead be strong yet weak at the same time, just like what Claymore's are as beings. The show dabbles in themes of loss, self control and constantly going onwards which are themes that younger people may not appreciate as much, yet this anime explores them quite well. This anime was released in 2007 and thus cannot talk smack about th…

It's a very shonen/action-focused anime. There really isn't much story nor anything meaningful explored beyond a series of mindless fights between various combinations of claymore warrior women and human-eating demon monsters. It never actually goes anywhere and just sort of reaches the end of the season still climbing that ladder as bait for the manga. The characters are barely allowed to have any presence beyond rehashing brain-damaging exposition/narration/peptalks and their 1-note character traits. The closest it comes to having actual characters in an arc gets unceremoniously cut through extreme contrivance. The plot armor is everywhere with pretty much every fight being nonsensical asspulls of more and more powers being thrown in on top of the power of tryharding/friendship/love/etc…

TL:DR at bottom. Okay let's start from the top. I decided to watch this anime after someone online told me it was their favorite anime of all time. I will not be claiming this as my favorite... lol. Anyways let's discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the show. Strengths: Strong start: The show starts off amazing. I was hooked after the first 7 episodes. Sadly the quality falls off slightly after this. World building: I think the world of claymore is awesome! Demons roam the world and badass girls have to fight them off. It's pretty cool. No fan service: Yea this is a big one for me. I'm so glad the show did not sexualize the claymores. It would have been a huge turn off if they did. Atmosphere: I know this is cringe but this show is super edgy and dark. It makes for a great atmosph…

The studio should be re-adapt the manga again! Or unless they should be labeled for ruining sauch a great manga with such a terrible ending... The anime till episode 19 was great tbh! And then I don't know what happened...even if you are in a hurry to end your adaptation YOU should NEVER ruin the characters & their whole personality and purpose in this way... Raki was really abnoxuies.. Non the less this anime -till episode 20- was great, the OST the art was superb in my opinion Just please don't watch beyond that and read the manga from chapter 50 and enjoy one of the most beautiful journeys in manga

I really liked the art style, plot, and music of this, character design was great as well, awakened beings looked great, and somehow they managed to have the claymores have very distinct personalities and appearance while also looking very similar. I personally had no problem with how it ended, and I'm actually glad what happened did happen, but I do wish that it kept going for another 20ish episodes. Flushing out what the organization really is, who they are, what their motives are. Having certain characters actually continue their objective at the end when it comes to the organization. Seeing those play out may have put this up to a 9/10 for me, since I really did enjoy the plot, visual, and music of this. What annoyed me are the morons that cried about how the show went because they jus…

A decent watch. The animation can be quite poor, but it was 2007. I think the lore is fantastiic, and a second season would have been great. The art style again is decent. I think the character designs are a strong point, with backgrounds on the other hand being poor. Characters have distinct and unique appearances. Rakki can be grating but nothing too crazy. The paralells between Clare and Rakki vs Clare and Theresa are a cool touch. Really fleshing out the lore in a second season or even a third could've cemented this as a generational anime. Having pretty much an all female cast in a show as action packed as this is pretty unique, and a welcome shift. Don't expect anything life changing.

Violence, body horror, and hot women with giant swords - but there’s more! This adaptation does a really good job staying faithful to what part of the manga it manages to cover, and though I could say so much about the manga, that’s not what this review is about. Claymore is one of those series a person finishes and wants more. Animation is sharp, though unfortunately censors many scenes from the manga that are down right insane. The main protagonist, Claire, is a very refreshing example of the shonen archetype and at times I am almost convinced her character was written by a woman. Women in general in this adaptation are written in a way that I feel extremely commendable compared to other female stereotypes in anime. Strong recommend.

It's 2024. I enjoyed the anime, the characters, the story everything was so good, I'm guessing the animation art was good at the time of release. It's action-packed, not like boring or old women-based animes, where all women join together and say they are women, not all those typical old scenes like avengers endgame, this anime was cool & everything was set perfectly to the limit. We want one particular character to reappear all the time, but the anime creators did not allow that, that is what keeps us entertained, they have decided to show whatever is necessary, no unwanted storylines, or character scenes. You would enjoy it, watch five episodes & decide for yourselves.

Early 2000. This was peak anime for me. And often Madhouse was the studio behind it. Darker. More mature. Far away from todays Isekai culture with fan service. Simple characters and writing. More colorful and ”childish” art style. Claymore is more gritty. Great characters. More mature characters. All well written. The show somehow manages to be about mostly female characters but still be mature enough without taking the easy way out. The shows ending is classic. OP is good aswell. From someone who hasnt read the manga. I enjoyed the story. It definetly lefts a pretty big hole though since it doesnt have a proper ending not adapting the full manga and therefore leaves questions hanging. But for whats here its great. 9/10
