Black★Rock Shooter (OVA)

Black★Rock Shooter (OVA)

Introduction

On her first day of junior high school, Mato Kuroi meets Yomi Takanashi. Though Yomi is initially taken aback by Mato's straightforward personality, the pair quickly becomes friends and begin to spend time together daily. As a sign of their friendship, Mato gives Yomi a cell phone charm—a blue star, identical to her own. However, when the two enter their second year, their relationship starts to change. Placed in a different class, Mato begins to spend more time with Yuu Koutari instead, a girl she met through the basketball team. In fact, the former best friends drift apart so much so that Mato cannot find Yomi anywhere, as if she had disappeared entirely. Elsewhere, Black★Rock Shooter is on a quest to vanquish the Dead Master. These two, while opposed, bear a connection not unlike Mato and Yomi. As their stories begin to cross, it seems Yomi's disappearance may have to do with the blue star-shaped charm and the legendary gunslinger herself. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I did cry during one scene, so this OVA was almost perfection. Montages were cute, conversations felt real enough, the emotions of the characters were beautifully shown, and the battle-scene-alternate-universe metaphor was well-done. ... Then I realized that no one learned their lesson. The post-credits scene made it worse. Am I supposed to only have one friend? Am I supposed to disappear to make my bestie worry and suffer so that they pay attention to me? That sounds like a wonderful idea according to this anime. I'm not sure what else to write here without giving away spoilers, the plot is generic but good. Visuals are fun and long humans are fun to watch battle and walk. I just can't bring myself to give it a higher score with the writing at the end.

Black ★ Rock Shooter is (unlike many would initially think) actually about mental health and, has a certain depth to it that is unexpected. The character B★RS herself is actually the representation of the protagonist's (Kuroi Mato) raw inner self, to make the character's feelings better understandable and perhaps even relatable. It represents friendships quite well, as they aren't often only bubbly and nice like oh so many animes portray; there can be awkward moments, words that aren't properly spoken, feelings that get confusing, etc. The art-style is very nice and well put, conveying well the overall atmosphere/vibe of what's going on. I recommend it but, understand it's really not everyone's cup of tea, which is just fine.

I watched a video where a guy, with well-deserved contempt, talked about another guy who urged the shooting of Ukrainians in Poland like a dog. I watched a video that explained why the game "Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City" came out so awful. Generally there was a lot of explaining the manipulation of the anti-Ukrainian narrative and comparing, quite rightly, to how Jews in a certain country run by a mustachioed artist were perceived. Capcom generally initially wanted to do a remake of "Resident Evil 2", but it ended up happening much later, so they used RE 2 as a backdrop for the events in a completely new spin-off. Confused? That's basically the feeling you'll get when watching Black★Rock Shooter (by the way, does it read Black Star Rock Shooter or Black 9733 Rock Shooter?). S…

Black Rock Shooter had supposedly originated from Vocalid, which is probably why this series has at least somewhat of a standing. However, Black Rock Shooter from its title alone is appealing in itself, mostly because it could have been a cool nickname for Trump’s would-be assassin. The art was what drew me in, mostly because there’s just something so undeniably cool about a girl wearing little clothing wielding a massive bazooka. So, the art was great, but what about the anime itself? Well, the art was more so bait for its promotion of the hollow world, because the school setting is one that can be seen as generic. The story, though largely unexplained, was easy to interpret and largely straightforward. The story begins with an outgoing girl named Mato striking up a conversation with a s…

I just finished making an AMV on this Anime. I have created this review to make a formal note of my thoughts on the show itself... A Visually Striking Journey into Adolescence: Black★Rock Shooter (OVA) This OVA is a unique and visually striking experience that can immerse viewers in a multifaceted narrative weaving together the complexities of teenage friendship and the enigmatic battles of a parallel world. This review delves into the aspects that make this OVA a noteworthy watch. (︶ω︶) Story (Uniqueness and Predictability): This adaption of the "Black Rock Shooter" story is undoubtedly unique in its approach. It combines elements of real-world drama with an otherworldly dimension where the mysterious Black Rock Shooter fights in battles with powerful foes. While some may argue that t…

It's good. I recommend. I never reviewed this when I first saw it years ago. I saw the TV show and first learned that this was its earlier incarnation I wanted to see it and have seen it multiple times since. I love it, the animation is top notch the story is incredible and it feels almost like a day in the life of somebody going through emotional trauma that has taken form in the presence of alternative personas fighting each other. BRS OVA follows the story of two friends, Mato Kuroi and Yomi Takanashi, as they navigate the challenges of adolescence. As their friendship deepens, the girls find themselves dealing with emotional conflicts and insecurities. Meanwhile, in a parallel world, a mysterious girl named Black Rock Shooter battles otherworldly foes with her powerful blue flame e…

There are two worlds in Black Rock Shooter: one that is normal, and one that is vast, mysterious, and sparse in population. It's clear to me that both worlds are connected, but it's unclear how they are connected other than the character's resemblances (Mato and the Black Rock Shooter, Yomi and the Dead Master, and Yuu and Strength) and the last scene before the credits where Mato and the Black Rock Shooter become one. What seems most likely to me is that Yomi merged with/became the Death Master when she became envious with Mato's new friend Yuu, and then the battle that's played in sporadic scenes happens after Mato merges with/becomes the Black Rock Shooter. What doesn't make sense to me, then, is the first scene where the Black Rock Shooter is killed by another mysterious woman with red…

This type of story is something you're either going to be on board with or not, as some people might prefer a more traditional clearcut story while this one instead takes more unique turns and concepts. But still highly worth checking out considering it's only 50 minutes long. And for the concept and narrative that it was going for, the show makes no compromises and fully commits to the story it wants to tell, really elevating the enjoyment of those with an open mind. Story Great. I loved the cryptic pacing and mystery that surrounded why the hell we would be seeing otherworldly fights in between a slice-of-life story. But the slow unraveling of the true events by the time you finish really made the viewing experience unique and worthwhile. While there's no explanation as to what this oth…

Quick Review! FIRST OFF: I have no idea what any of this was about. I simply clicked on it because I saw that there's a continuation of this series coming out in 2022. So I'm watching everything prior to seeing if I want to watch it. I'm not sure if this was supposed to be a pilot to a TV station or not, or if it's actually supposed to stand alone... Story: To be honest, It's cool but not. I understood both stories (not really a spoiler btw, the entire movie is about 2 stories), but didn't find any connection whatsoever other than the characters looking the same. Art: Good, nothing really to complain about. Not a ton of great stuff, but it's definitely above or just at average. Sound: The sound was a bit all over, some scenes are supposed to be loud but weren't and vice versa, but it w…

The Black Rock Shooter OVA was a lot more palatable than the TV show. I just watched both the TV show OVA on the same day, so I of course, compared them. Despite being similar in concepts and having similar characters, the melodrama is all but almost gone, and instead, there's more of a slow paced story about relationships, still, but a lot more realistic and less forcing in tension and confrontation because the writer demands it. When the problem is concentrated on a relationship that has been built upon from the show, it sticks a lot better than trying to introduce crazy characters that have little to do with the plot other than to create unbelievably stupid and tragic backstories trying to make the other characters miserable. Who would have thought? The animation is still stellar, and…

The characters in the other world look cool but the show mostly is in the real world and nothing is really happening. The slow build leads to a conclusion, lacking a finale. I still don't understand exactly how the two worlds intertwine. AKA nothing happens but u can watch the few fight scenes on youtube or something maybe the shows better i donno Character: Boring Otherworld Characters: cool, if they had any screentime Story: Boring Conclusion: This show tries to be deep to be can't excuse the fact that it's boring and stupid I have nothing more to say how long do i have to make this review

The story is bad, the characters are bad... The original Black Rock Shooter is a "innocent" girl that wakes up from her sleep and have to fight aliens, she is the coolest girl in the 2D world. This anime changes BRS character so much that i can't even tell if it is really her, and what the hell is the friendship thing? you want to see human friendship and love? PLAY THE GAME If you want a great story and good characters play the game for PSP, the story, art, sound, characters, everything in the game is just outstanding, maybe that is the reason why i can't like this anime. Be smart play the game.

It’s hard to write a really long and in-depth review concerning an anime OVA that is only fifty minutes long, but I will give you a short and to the point review concerning whether or not this is worth an hour of your life. Black Rock Shooter is a misleading name as it doesn’t have as much to do with shooting and black rocks as it does the bonds of friendship formed by two middle school girls named Mato and Yomi. From the very beginning we see a deep bond form between the two and we watch them develop rather quickly into inseparable best friends that seems to be borderline lesbian at a few points. This is all quickly taken away from Yomi by Yuu, who she seems to feel replaces her as Mato’s best friend. This leads Yomi into a depressed state. So where does the whole Black Rock Shooter thi…

I think I've pinpoint what Black Rock Shooter means giving my history with mindscrew anime(NGE etc.)then again BRS is a open book. The basic point is don't let anger or jealousy get to you other wise you disappeard in a cloud like smoke leading to fighting/killing your best friend. Black Rock Shooter tells the be autiful and amazing action packed story of oppsites Yomi and Matoi and their friendship I highly suggest for fans of Madoka Magica considering Yomi and Matoi's realtionship being similar to Madoka and Homura despite the killing best friend thing but it does have a similar theme of saving the friend/girl you love .

Losing friends is not an easy process. And when I say friends, I don’t mean the people whose exiting your life would make you go ‘awww’ or ‘that sucks.’ I’m talking about the people whose absence from your life leaves you speechless, only for your voice to come back as heart wrenching stutters after your mind has caught up with the fact ‘this person is gone.’ It’s a feeling we don’t want to experience. Unfortunately for Kuroi Mato, she shares this sentiment a little over halfway through this tale. Yomi Takanashi is suddenly missing, and no matter where Kuroi looks, she’s nowhere to be found. Not at the sidewalk where they meet each other in the morning, not at the train station, not at their school, not even on each other’s cell phones. The piano piece in this moment speaks Kuroi’s emotio…

This is my first review so please bear with me. I didn't really have any expectations going into BRS, as all I'd never seen any trailers going into the show. The only things I'd seen of the show were numerous pictures going around tumblr, and I'd been drawn in by her character design. I'd put it off for a while though, until I'd heard it was written by Nagaru Tanigawa, the author of the Haruhi Suzumiya light novels, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Story: 6 All I can say is don't go into this OVA expecting an action centered show. Really, the story is more of a slice of life. The show revolves around Mato, who starts middle school and becomes best friends with Yomi. When they get put in separate classes during their second year, their friendship runs into trouble. Meanwhile, their alternate…

And we're back to Black Rock Shooter, an OVA based on a song which was inspired by an illustration. Some of you will remember that I looked at the TV anime back in August. It was a decent little series. So, how does the short OVA that came first compare? Let's take a look and find out. The story involves two inter-connected worlds. One is an emotional landscape and the other is closer to reality. The story focuses on a girl name Mato whose just starting Junior High school when she sees a tall girl named Yomi and becomes instantly enamored with her. She finds out her name from the seating assignment and strikes up a conversation with her. Which starts out pretty awkwardly but turns out pretty well leading to the two becoming... close. Meanwhile, on the emotional landscape, we see the titu…

Black Rock Shooter OVA The story was a 9. It was comfusing the first time I watched it but i watched it 3 or 4 more times and then i got the hang of what was happening. It's a 9 because the strory was a nice one and the action was GREAT!! I'm a fangirl about action. Art was a 10 it wasn't as good as the TV series even though I saw the ova first. But the art is still my cup of tea. The sound was a 7 I wasn't looking for a great soundtrack in this OVA i was mostly looking for action. And there was a lot of action. The soundtrack wasn't great thats why I gave it a 7. But at least I gave it an alright score. The characters were much better than wat they were in the TV series. SPOILER**I prefered Yomi without glasses actually.** My favourite character was black rock shooter herself. The enjoym…

I was BRS fan since seeing and hearing the music video for the Miku Hatsune's song. After watching the three PV and seeing the various merchandrise that promote the OVA, watching the latest news, I counted on something good. I will say more - something great, or even better. But something didn't work out. As far as school life of Mato and Yomi is still interesting, so much the scene in another world are simply boring. Fight scenes practically do not exist. It looks as if all the other fight scenes, for example with monsters or other characters, have been censored by events of the life of Mato and Yomi. After some time of girls' school life we see BRS calmly walking around another world. It's just like it was all over. This feeling that you miss something... What about characters? I love…

-Story: The story was simple and not really well developed. The negative thing about it was that it didn't reveal much things about the thoughts of the characters and it was slightly lacking. It would have been better, in my opinion, if it had been divided into two OVAs. However, I believe that this vague story was actually interesting. The show explores people's feelings in great detail, problems that seem typical for school girls to experience are treated much more seriously than ever. The fantastic world of Black Rock Shooter server as a metaphor to what the girls are feeling deep inside them. So to conclude, it emphasizes a lot in feelings but it's lacking in thoughts of the characters. -Art: The art was great, both the background and character's design where outstanding. The scenes in…
