Black Rock Shooter

Black Rock Shooter

Introduction

On the first day of junior high school, Mato Kuroi happens to run into Yomi Takanashi, a shy, withdrawn girl whom she immediately takes an interest in. Mato tries her best to make conversation with Yomi, wanting to befriend her. At first, she is avoided, but the ice breaks when Yomi happens to notice a decorative blue bird attached to Mato's phone, which is from the book "Li'l Birds At Play." Discovering they have a common interest, the two form a strong friendship. In an alternate universe, the young girls exist as parallel beings, Mato as Black★Rock Shooter, and Yomi as Dead Master. Somehow, what happens in one world seems to have an effect on the other, and unaware of this fact, the girls unknowingly become entangled by the threads of fate. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I usually write longer reviews, but I'm extremely mixed when it comes to this show so I'll make it quick. It's only 8 episodes, so if anyone is intrigued, it's probably best to just give it a shot. As a non-spoiler review, I wont mention the story. It's a somewhat interesting show, there's some really cool ideas thrown in here. Visuals are outstanding, both in the 2d and 3d department. The visuals however, are the biggest praise I can give this show. Maybe it's just not for me, but I never really got attached to any of the characters, and honestly felt confused every time I thought I figured it out. The ending also doesn't satisfy me. If you're interested, give it a try, but I can't truly say I recommend it.

This is such a beautifully crafted anime, especially when it comes to portraying friendship. I really enjoyed it (more than I expected) and there were moments that genuinely brought tears to my eyes. It has that rare mix of emotional depth and visual intensity that stays with you long after you finish it. This version is newer, of course, even though the original concept is older and there’s also a movie. A lot of people recommend watching the series first because it’s easier to understand, and honestly, I get why. The story hits harder when you have time to connect with the characters and their struggles. I’ve been planning to watch it for such a long time, so I’m really glad I finally did. It was absolutely worth it, powerful, emotional, and definitely something I’d pass on to others. Th…

Black Rock Shooter ended up being a lot better than I thought it would be. It had something to say. And that thing wasn't wrong. > The first episode blew me away with its excellent direction, spectacle and artistic vision. There was intrigue, there was action, there was an interesting scenario to explore... > However, the second episode made me concerned that I'd already figured out the show's gimmick and was afraid that it didn't mesh well. > By the fourth episode, it had allayed my fears somewhat, and by episodes 6-8 I was on board for the message it was trying to impart. So: it has a lot of pretty lights and sounds, the characters are reasonably likeable, the pacing is snappy and they string you along with enticing cliffhangers to keep you engaged. The premises for the characters, an…

I adore this anime, it has a very unique concept and I'm in awe of how it does it's magic. Although not necessarily a great anime, seeing how this show was made out of a song it lives up to my expectations of a Miku fan. Although some people may not enjoy the show due to to the main character's revealing outfit, I also dislike that part but I don't really notice it much since that really is the only fanservice in this show. Although talking about fanservice, using the actual song "Black rock shooter" for the anime is a predictable but really fulfilling fanservice. It just felt right you know? Like there shouldn't be any other openings, the music choice was great all around and the character designs were really unique (the ones in the dream world atleast) Although Dead master is a funn…

This must seen initially like an action type anime that has cool looking weapons, fights, etcetera and, it really is BUT that is absolutely not it's main concept. Black★Rock Shooter is about middle schoolers who are amidst the chaos of getting to know and understand their own selves better while simultaneously trying to build friendships, endure school and care for private lifes/mental health. It also has subtle yuri/homo undertones to it, which is not really worked upon considering the characters' age range. Still, it's there. All the main characters have alternate selves that are there mainly to represent their most intimate selves in a raw way that can be better understood by the viewers who are following the story. The art-style has a considerably unique style to it, especially the eye…

Note: It probably makes sense to watch the OVA version first because it will be referenced a lot in this review. After finishing the OVA, one may waddle over to the TV series in a state of confusion, mainly due to the OVA’s limitations with time rather than not being able to understand its symbolism. Given that their expectations are now more appropriately set, it could now possibly be twisted by the state of confusion regarding the OVA version. Black Rock Shooter is a very misleading title considering most of it was a school drama. This anime has little to do with one of the three firms that own the United States or Thomas Matthew Crooks himself. This does not imply that the title and the subsequent expectations formed based on it which were met are automatically good and vice versa. The…

Black Rock Shooter began as a Vocaloid song, where Miku’s uniform was inspired by some illustrations made by a guy named Huke. An OVA was created in 2010 based on that song/illustration combo, which received a ridiculously huge hype by all the Vocaloid fans. Not a surprise since it was after all a fan catering title. Two years later (2012) NoitanimA decided to take this title in its timeslot and to expand it further, thus creating the current version. Despite being only 8 episodes, it still feels longer than it needs to be. The plot is very simple; it is just about a bunch of schoolgirls going through an emotional maelstrom, caused by jealousy. The heroine Mato is looking for friends in her new school and befriends another girl named Yomi. This causes the other girls who were friends with…

[Heavy spoilers in my review] I feel like this anime is something you're either going to get/like or don't. When I first watched this in 2012 when I was younger, I remember being damn confused but still really enjoyed it for its action and the central figure BRS. Rewatching it countless times as I got older, however, a lot of my confusion cleared up and I got to truly appreciate how unique and well done its direction was. Before I go into the heavy stuff, in terms of the animation, the 2D animated scenes are decent and often have rather well-executed shots and lighting. But the real strength of the anime is its flawless execution of CG animation. It's honestly criminal that this anime is slept on or completely unmentioned when talking about anime with good 3D animation, as it has the bes…

I found the concept of the story to be interesting, but in terms of execution, this anime failed miserably. I liked the character designs and their personalities for the most part. Soundtrack wasn't really memorable (it's been a while since I've watched). The art is beautiful to look at, and a lot of creativity was put into the dream world and the character designs. Take that away, however, and all you're left with is a plot that doesn't really go anywhere. It seems like they spent too much time world-building to do anything. I'm not against creative story-telling or going off on tangents, but any "unrelated tangent" should ultimately be related to the story at some point. It's like sitting through fillers for the first half of the anime and then they decide that they're finally going to…

This anime was so bad that it made me want to vent everything I thought while watching it. I just loved the CGI animation but that was it, and it was for that and for the fights that I didn't rate it lower. The anime is so confusing, so much so that I only understood what was happening in the middle of it (and even then it didn't make sense) they could make it easier for those who watch it. The story is very weird and the characters are very bipolar, how does someone who is screaming with envy out of nowhere become someone friendly and sweet overnight? According to the anime people's feelings are influenced by badass girls fights from another world, like WHAT?? There are things that contradict each other, the anime itself stumbles over its own ideas. It's very difficult to understand the c…

I have to apologize for my english in advance. I am sorry, but I hope you understand me. Well, I watched this anime, read some reviews and I realized that many didn't understand that this anime was created for teenagers, for whom the smallest problem turns into a huge tantrum. I agreed with some people about computer graphics. It's the best and I think it's really weapon, blood, battle. I think it's good anime, because I want to be more effective in evaluating this title. BUT AFTER THIS ANIME I HATE RUSSIAN VOICE ACTING. THEY ADDED STRANGE JOKES THAT FIT THE SITUATION VERY BADLY. Of course, I didn't take this into account in the assessment. Thanks for reading)

Black Rock Shooter is a very interesting anime. Honestly, I first watched this anime back in 2015, and damn I didn't understand a thing but the action was cool. Definitely, the thing that most people will recognize about BRS is the action scenes and amazing character designs. The story is very emotion/psychological focused which I couldn't fully appreciate on my first viewing as this was one of my early anime but after re-watching this I can definitely say it's an interesting series. The characters are great. Obviously, at times the reactions and character actions were amplified to make the drama more dramatic but it worked well to build on the story. Basically, there are two worlds, normal drama world, and badass fight world. They're both linked by the emotions of the main characters a…

Let me preface this by saying I love campy crap. I grew up watching Godzilla, Ultraman, Gamera. This is my stuff. I love it. Let me also preface with, this is my favorite anime of all time, there will be some bias. I'll try to remove it, but I know that's impossible to remove all of it. So let's get started. SLIGHT SPOILERS: Black Rock Shooter is about an ordinary middle school girl, Mato Kuroi, as she starts at a new school and makes friends with a girl named Yomi. Their friendship develops, along with hardships, and girls in another plane fight for them. That's the basic gist. I won't explain further to avoid spoilers. Story 6/10: This isn't the most well thought out story. In fact if you take out the BRS (Black Rock Shooter) segments, it's basically a run of the mill, average, does n…

(Note: This is my first time writing a review, so go easy on me please.) To be frank, I went into this anime with very low expectations, seeing some of the reviews are 10/10 and some of them are 1/10, I decided to watch this 8 episode anime and see what it was about, and to my surprise, it wasn't as bad as I thought. Plot The premise of the anime is pretty unique. The main cast of girls goes through shit irl, while their other selves in another world, the embodiment of their thoughts, fight and when their other version dies, their main cause of that anxiety vanishes. Interesting premise and unique concept, but when you only have 8 eps to work with, you can't but rush a bit, and that was the biggest issue of this anime. They rushed it hard and in turn messed the whole thing up. Plenty of…

Cogito ergo sum: "I think, therefore I am." Black★Rock Shooter examines the duality of the human psyche and all of the interpersonal issues that everyday people face, in this case, it's the alter-egos of teenage girls (and their sadistic, school counselor), duking it out—in a kind of wayward, decaying dimensional hole! This series not only has S-tier seiyū attached to the ※project, but it is written by the goddess of teen-drama, Mari Okada, and integrates ※Huke's unique art style. ※The cast of voice actors, includes: Kana Hanazawa, Mamiko Noto, Miyuki Sawashiro, Eri Kitamura, etc. Huke is the character designer for Steins;Gate, most recently, they did the art for Takanashi Kiara ("Hololive EN"). ⚠️ This review will be spoiler-free ⚠️ —Story/Characters Even though I prefer the OVA to th…

Be honest, Nomura made this, didn’t he? You cannot convince me otherwise, has his fingerprints ALL over it. Who directed this catharsis? Who wrote it? Mari Okada? I ain’t buying it, I’m sure as hell that’s a ghost-name for Tetsuya Nomura, he probably got bored and made this in between the hell that was Final Fantasy 13 vs’s development! . . . fine, I won’t play that gag out forever, but can you truly blame me for making the comparison? It’s uncanny. Great character designs - but horrible and confusing narratives that by the end always raises more questions than answers. Breathtaking visuals, but with a cast nobody really cares about. In the end you’re left with a story that is patchworked at best and pretentious as hell at worst. Let’s dig into what little meat is here. This anime was ba…

I admit that I didn't even try to really dig deep and figure out what this show is really about. The plot is unnecessarily cryptic and abstract. The action sequences (which is what probably attracts a lot of people to the show) are few and far between. For the most part its a dark school drama which tries way too hard to be sad, and only comes off as cruel. It has some neat action, and it's pretty to look at, so it has that going for it. Also, it's only 8 episodes so if you do decide to watch it, you won't feel as though you wasted too much of your time.

Foreword: I just want to express my appreciation of this anime. First i thought about rating it a 10, because i feel like many votes from 1-3 don´t feel right at all. But i think everyone should try to rate fair and RIGHT,not shift it towards a result. Which might be a little naiv but, well. that is the internet. ------------------------- Review: Black Rock Shooter is about our inner struggle, facing problems and dealing with ourselves. Those fights are portrait in a interesting weird world, which is really fun to watch. The art-style was exactly my taste, over the top, fked up, great. the mental struggle of the characters is understandable and interesting. You can sometimes recognize yourself and/or feel sorry for the characters and understand their struggles. Because of this, i believ…

This it'll be a short review for this great anime. My first impression was, how this anime have a negative ranking?, the anime have a beautiful story and the characters design are so unique and pretty. First is an anime with 8 episodes it is very difficult to have such an extensive history, I think that for 8 chapters this anime was handled very well by those 8 chapters to create a story and not only that, show some life lessons. For me the story was very good despite having episodes. The art, i love the art of BRS, the characters design of HUKE i love it, i like so much the characters of Huke(Like some characters of steins:gate), Mato, Yomi, Black Rock Shooter, Dead Master, Yu, i like so much their designs, and the animation was very spectacular the colors, the movent, the effects, the w…
