I watched this anime as it came out, and for most of the episodes I loved it for being so simple in its anti-suicide messaging yet creative in its delivery. The style is so bright and pleasing to the eye and each main girl is likeable and interesting in their own right. But as the anime tended closer to its ending - an OVA which promised to be an extra-long special that answered all questions - it became clear the writers never had a direction or aim for this story. The world they created is enchanting and nostalgic, but they couldn't leave it at that; surely there must be an explanation for this world.
This anime would've been better staying as a personal story. Take the 4 main characters from point A to point B, let them have their own individual character arcs. Simple, like the messag…

[I wrote this review thinking that episode 13 is a part of the original series, thanks to Crunchyroll. The series is better off without its supposed “finale”]
I did not expect this much filler in a 13 episode series. Episode 8 is entirely made out of reused scenes and so is over a half of the last episode. The series picks up its pace only after episode 3 so it’s irritating to see it lose its momentum afterwards.
The character designs and backgrounds look pretty, although the show starts looking clunky whenever Seeno Evils appear on the screen. This particular occurrence takes place every episode. Perhaps the animators wanted to go with a surreal vibe similar to fight scenes in Madoka, however CGI made the enemies look unintentionally funny. Seeno Evils are clearly supposed to stand out,…

I'm pretty sure back in 2021, when I first watched this anime, I was recommended it by some sort of post online somewhere about a new, promising, quirky and summer-ish anime series, which somehow immediately drew my attention and luckily it did. I have to say, I absolutely love the atmosphere of this one, and I rthink it's just so deep and meaningful. In a way, when I was watching "Sonny Boy" some days ago, I could only think about this one, so much that it made me wonder if I actually recalled any of it, and luckily, I didn't. I say luckily because it's amazing to be able to watch this again from the very beginning as if it were the very first time.
I accompanied this being released, which isn't as impressive as it would be if I said I was accompanying some classic anime as it was being…

Wonder Egg Priority is an ambitious project that aimed to tackle very serious issues from the view of a very vulnerable group. It succeeds in creating the fantastical to give our protagonists the ability to both confront and combat their grief as well as the societal forces that turned their peers into victims. Every episode builds mystery and character; each protagonist gaining a sense of identity as their confrontations turn into revelation about their ambitions and relationships. However, it was all for nothing as answers to all of the series' questions are haphazardly thrown at the audience like a series of adhesive bandages attempting to cover the wall they have been carefully constructing brick by brick. They are some nice bandages, mind you, but all that can be focused on is the hal…

I had such high hopes for this. A unique concept, and for a minute, it was very well executed. Then it tried becoming a sci fi. Nothing wrong with a sci fi but that’s where the writers forget what the story is about. AI, alternate universes. It completely derails and forgets what the show was meant to be about
The art style and color schemes are amazing. so bright and colorful for such dark themes and it works. The settings of the egg worlds have to be my favorite, unique to each one of the eggs. the traumas being comedically weird and colorful monsters makes them even more terrifying.
The characters are unique in their own right, and lovable.watching them become friends and find comfort in each other was my favorite part of this show.
Worth the watch? yes if you can handle the themes.…

The most critical and indifferent reviewers of Wonder Egg Priority do not have the lived experience to reflect deeply on what it is like to be a teenager; much less a teen girl struggling with loneliness, mental health, developing friendships, and most importantly, learning what it means to have a sense of self.
What WEP excels at is showing genuine teenage friendships and the development of relationships between characters experiencing deep loneliness. It gives the viewer time to breathe and reflect on the relationships throughout the show, but most importantly though, WEP refuses to sexualise any of its young female leads in any way. This is the bare minimum and yet many other anime and TV shows fail to even fulfill this criteria. Despite this, its refusal to do so gives it so much cred…

Very very very promising premise!
I absolutely loved the first few episodes. It has the makings of a perfect anime. Great art and animation. Awesome fight scenes. Very intriguing and unique concept. Loveable characters. Touching plot lines.
Unfortunately, it got rushed and a bit confusing towards the end.
There was a special last episode but it left more questions than providing any form of closure.
And without any news (or hope) of season 2 in sight, it kinda leaves a bad taste of dissatisfaction in the mouth.
It's still not a bad watch. But last few episodes could've been handled better.

Wanted to give this anime an 9 but they included an highly unnecessary modern trope that ruins everything it touches. Yes, exactly as you thought. I can't mention it here bc the review will get banned probably, but it rhimes with 'bans' or 'cans' and has a t as the fort letter. Yes only in one episode but enough pushed to feel unnatural and does not belong in the anime at all.
There is also an episode (8th) that is purely recap, and in am 12 (13 with the recap) episode anime this is unforgivable. Then the 13th episode that's supposed to finish the anime and should be 46in long, has a +/- 20min recap as well...
That that, the story, art and general feel of this anime is very interesting and the premise just makes you want to watch more. Sometimes beautiful and brutal at the same time, Wo…

There is a reason why no one talks about this anime nowadays.
This anime had everything to become a cult classic in the community. The premise was great, most of the characters were interesting and you could get attached to their drama, but everything goes downhill around episode 7. It felt like the writers didn´t know where to lead the story or, in the best case scenario, the story was too big for only 12 episodes. For what I´ve read back in the day, the production was full of troubles, the whole team was working extra. All of that and the anime was a flop among japanese public, and by the ending, most people had already gave up.
The ending is so, so bad, that it ruined everything the anime had built. All the praise the anime had received? forever gone.
The only reason I give it a 7 is…

tl:dr: The best experience for this is to watch until episode 7 and then imagine what happens after. whatever you will come up with is less of a fucking shitshow than what's actually happening in the second half.
Reading up on the troubled production thanks to absolutely awful business decisions made by the producers of this show (people got HOSPITALIZED over this show) it makes sense that the moment they stumbled by having to air a recap episode, the entire thing just falls apart.
The first half of promises so much good, so many leads to follow up on, such an intimate understanding of what makes these characters tick, their flaws, their unhealthy coping mechanisms (i mean it's kids, right) and feels like it's leading up to a grander statement on grief and how one chooses (or in some ca…

Feels weird to mark this as "Mixed Feelings" when I gave this an 7.5/10, but I think people who have watched this can understand why I did this.
Watching an anime original is kinda like eating one of those jelly beans that is either chocolate flavor or poop flavor. In Wonder Egg Priority's case, it kinda felt like eating chocolate flavor poop. I genuinely do think this show was overall really good, tackling some of the darkest themes like sexual assault, bullying, suicide, gender insecurity, etc., all in a very unique and terrifying way. The 4 main characters bounced off of each other really well, I enjoyed their personality a lot, and I think they all go through their own unique character arcs. Also the colors, the animation, and even the OST were all really good at setting the atmospher…

100% one of my favorite anime’s ever. The way the show manages to fit so much into so little time is astounding. I definitely feel as though it was intended to be longer but I believe that with the time they did have they really made the most of it. This show is such an anomaly amongst anime, the all teen girl [non sexualized!!] main character cast, and especially the heavy real life subjects being handled as well as they did, really made this something super special. I absolutely adore this show. The plot is kind of everywhere at times, especially towards the end, but it never really bothered me. All the main characters in the show all have such unique personalities it’s impossible not to love all of them. And even despite how cool and lovable the girls are they all have a flaw of some ki…

I have never been so disappointed to an anime until after I finished this one. First few episodes were great. Succeeding ones until episode 10 was okay. Episode 11 is peak, episode 12 is just utter trash. I hate to say it and leave a review like this but I felt so bad that I can't take back those 4 hours spent watching this anime.
At first, Ai has a goal, which is to find out why Koito died. Great, we have something to look forward to. She stopped going to school but still got new friends. Great, it was a fun ride with all of them. Episode 11 dropped, holy molly it was peak. Then I expected episode 12 to explain everything that's been unanswered so far but what did I get? I got smacked by anything the authors want even though it doesn't make sense. It felt like hundreds of dots in the sk…

DON'T WATCH THIS ANIME
I’m not saying this because the anime is bad, but because it’s unsatisfying. It’s only 12 episodes long, and the 8th episode is a recap, so there are only 11 episodes. The story leads nowhere. The 46-minute special has the first 30 minutes as a recap, and the remaining 16 minutes, which should provide some conclusion, instead leave more questions for a second season that will likely never come. But if you think you'll still be satisfied, then by all means, go ahead and watch it.
Aside from that, the animation and character quality were quite good. While the story starts off with a slice-of-life feel, it takes a sudden twist, throwing you into an incredible web of events filled with drama and mystery. In this regard, it's absolutely fantastic.

Wonder Egg Priority is a masterpiece.
Wonder egg is a supernatural Drama that covers every mental health issue under the sun. You've probably seen clips of this anime showing characters speaking about mental health. This is a very emotional anime where it covers alot of topics like Suicide, SA, Gender dysphoria and so much more. When a girl commits suicide they get sent to a wonder egg and the main characters have to save them. There is alot of awesome fight scenes as well as emotional and plot building moments so its the best of both worlds.
Every Topic in this anime is treated really well and it even showcases the Trauma left behind by these events. Even if this anime was just about the mental health itself it would be awesome. Not to mention the anime it self is beautiful. The animat…

I still mourn Wonder Egg Priority.
It's my opinion that even if a project fails on the whole, there can be elements of it deserving of praise, and WEP is chock full of wonderful, worthy things. Every little thing about it from a design standpoint is excellent. And I maintain that the first episode of WEP is the best first episode of any anime (outside of, maybe, Cowboy Bebop), a perfect pitch for a perfect show that never came to be.
It crashed and burned so bad. An absolute trainwreck. Trainwreck is a really apt metaphor, now that I think about it, because you really get the sense by the middle of the series that the tracks are being laid just inches ahead of the train, barely keeping pace as it careens in random directions, desperate to avoid a crash.
Here's the gist: about halfway…

This anime tell a story about young girl dealing with depression and trauma. Not very literally, but in some way so that it can still be fun to watch. Going into another world, fight monster, catchy fight scene, something like that to keep the average viewer engaged. The subtlety message lay in the form of scene like that. As a person that enjoy analyzing media, I really like the approach they make because it appeals to both parties, the average anime viewer and the target audience for this kind of genre.
The magical girl or supernatural genre is among one of my favorite. Its not straight up fantasy, they still take place in our real world, but with a twist that is magic. Makes us wonder if that kind of power do exist. The protagonist in this anime consist of four normal girls at surface,…

wonder egg that needed more time
I had a good time with the anime. It was one of the most fast-paced show I had watched and didn't hold your hand. I certainly got good animation, Love the character design, the friendship dynamic, the themes of it all if just had Struck the landing.
The story about finding girls that committed suicide and fighting against their personal demons is just amazing, how it tangled so many different problems that women had is just so well done. I really think it's one of the best shows when it's doing that
And the friendship the girls get where they speak so honestly to each other, feel so refreshing. how the personalities are set up to each other so they get many good conversations.
It's just a lot of fun, It has many moments I really enjoyed and it's just s…

It's actually kind of fascinating how this series manages to fumble itself.
First, the pros: it's gorgeous, has a very interesting setup, has a similar feeling to Puella Magi Madoka Magica (a positive in my book) at times, and seems like the type of show that would be really impactful for an audience of young teens. It makes a valiant attempt to explore dark yet realistic themes.
The cons: The story is a disaster. A large quantity of the episodes are dedicated to recapping the story and reemphasizing information they have already hand-fed to the watcher, yet the show fails to answer even the most basic questions it presents. There are constant twists and turns that are basically breezed by and not interrogated in any way beyond the most absolute surface level. Just when it seems like th…

I adored this show, it's beautifully made and I'd recommend it to anyone into psychological horror. While I might be bias because it was my first true psychological horror anime (I watched it several years ago, I promise I'm a bit more cultured now), I still look back on it with nothing but love. It's a shame it never got a second season, the story never felt finished while they still techinally 'ended it'.
I loved how they wrote their characters as still having flaws and not being the very typical perfect person or snobby with no redeeming qualities. It helps add to the emotion of the characters and helps you understand them more deeply- furthering the impact of the plot twists.
If you hate it when story's feel incomplete or open ended then this definitely isn't for you, but the mystery…
