Steins;Gate

Introduction

Eccentric scientist Rintarou Okabe has a never-ending thirst for scientific exploration. Together with his ditzy but well-meaning friend Mayuri Shiina and his roommate Itaru Hashida, Okabe founds the Future Gadget Laboratory in the hopes of creating technological innovations that baffle the human psyche. Despite claims of grandeur, the only notable "gadget" the trio have created is a microwave that has the mystifying power to turn bananas into green goo. However, when Okabe attends a conference on time travel, he experiences a series of strange events that lead him to believe that there is more to the "Phone Microwave" gadget than meets the eye. Apparently able to send text messages into the past using the microwave, Okabe dabbles further with the "time machine," attracting the ire and attention of the mysterious organization SERN. Due to the novel discovery, Okabe and his friends find themselves in an ever-present danger. As he works to mitigate the damage his invention has caused to the timeline, Okabe fights a battle to not only save his loved ones but also to preserve his degrading sanity. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Since you've heard every praise possible for this anime, I'm going to focus on the parts of it I didn't like as much, but do still know I mostly enjoyed this anime. Going into this anime, I was really excited. I like dramas, and Steins;Gate seems to be the pinnacle of drama according to anime fans, but as a drama anime fan, this is just not as good as people think. I finished this anime months ago to give my opinion time to marinate and have read through some discussion boards (almost all very praising of this anime) and my opinion since I finished the last episode has not changed at all. I feel like a lot of the praise this anime gets is from people who don't actually watch many dramas, because this show's drama aspects are some of the most predictable, basic ones in any drama I've watc…

The best piece of media I have ever seen. It has been almost a decade since I first watched *Steins;Gate*. I found it when I searched something like: “Top 5 anime about time travel.” I had always loved the idea of traveling through time. Around 2014–2015, I discovered the story of John Titor, and that only made my fascination with the subject stronger. Then, in 2016, I watched *Steins;Gate*. And it blew my mind. Okabe is, above everything else, a good person. He is always thinking about others, even when doing so means paying an enormous price himself. That is one of the things I love most about him. The characters are incredibly well made. They feel human, memorable, flawed and alive. And even today, at 26 years old, I still have the same love for this masterpiece that I had when I f…

No one knows what the next few moments will bring. You might make a mistake in your life and wish you could go back and fix it, but there's no way to know if changing the past would actually make things better. Time is far more unpredictable and mysterious than it seems. Steins;Gate does a great job of showing this. I can easily say that this is the best time-travel story I've ever seen, even better than the TV series Dark, which is also a masterpiece in the genre. The first episode might not seem that interesting at first, but by the end of it, it manages to shock you. And honestly, that was enough for me to keep watching until the end. The story follows Rintarou Okabe who spends his days messing around with his friends in a small lab in Akihabara. After accidentally discovering a way…

this show is not for everyone. it has virtually no action and is very slow paced, I think that most people would enjoy this show but would feel the first 9ish episodes are boring. I loved the pacing plus the lack of music and over the top/exaggerated characters, it felt like a breath of fresh air after watching so many over the top/loud anime. however when a show is slow paced you also want the slow parts to be suspenseful, strategic, or contribute to character development, if not it's just filler. there's nothing wrong with filler, it can just make a show come off as boring if its not used correctly, which I think is where some of the announce around the show(mostly the first 9ish episodes) comes from. a lot of the filler in the show is either a long monologue/argument between characters,…

More then a year passed since I watched this masterpiece and here are my thoughts. Steins;Gate is easily one of my favorite anime mostly because I love the concept and time travel is one of my favorite genres. I really liked how this anime shows the consequences of changing the past. The characters are really well written especially Okabe and Kurisu. Okabe might seem annoying or weird at first but as the series progresses you start to understand him more and he becomes a really great protagonist. The story can definitely be complicated and I understand why some people don't like it because of that but personally for me that's what made it so interesting. Once everything starts connecting and you understand what's actually happening it feels really "rewarding". I also really liked the…

"Those words are meant for those that dare defy god's final warning... An epigraph of their stubbornness" A miracle of modern storytelling. On the surface, Steins;Gate may appear like a quirky and pop-culture-ridden sci-fi thriller, but, at its core, it is an unrelenting and poignant character study on trauma, causality, and the gripping burden of human agency and free will. It is an awe-inspiring narrative showcase of how complex and world changing concepts, such as time travel, ought to serve as vehicles to explore the fragile, yet always fascinating inner workings of the human psyche. Though Steins;Gate is universally praised among anime discussion circles, its first half is commonly, and somewhat understandably, sold as a "boring-esque" rite of passage. It is described as a sluggish,…

This is a very solid adaptation of the visual novel Steins Gate although I preferred the VN version of the story. It works as its own version and a great way for people to be introduced to the franchise. I liked the anime a lot even though I feel the adaptation should've kept some key scenes from the VN which would feel even more impactful (chapter 9 mainly). People say the first part is boring or slow but for me personally it was good from the start, it's true that it's very slow in the beginning (especially in visual novel version) but if you enjoy slice of life and character interactions then everything that comes after will feel like a humongous reward. I'm personally not a big fan of sci-fi genre but this is one of the best stories I've seen, the writing is amazing, the characters…

One big ad for Dr pepper, Mayushii best girl 11/10 Some people (cough) might find this too confusing but it's honestly one of the most intriguing takes on Sci-Fi, Thriller, and Drama in all of anime. I love the artsyle type shi and the main character is lowkey a grapist (relatable) and the emotions touches you harder than your uncle and I think you should check it out twin ✌️ Myanimelist.com won't let me post this because it's too short, thus a reminder that "X" user (formerly known as twitter) "Tolenka" is a twink The plot twists, incredible character development, and the way it manages to be both straightforward and incredibly deep at the same time are amazing. By the time you finish it, you'll find yourself reflecting on its themes and everything the characters said for weeks afterwa…

Steins;Gate was a unique experience that, perhaps in some moments, hasn't aged well; the concept is great and the anime executed it well, but the first caps were difficult to watch so that's why the mixed feelings, but if you can pass that start, then I recommend it. Story: I liked the concept of time traveling, but the beginning and pacing haven't aged well imo; it felt like there were 15 minutes of nothing and then a plot that appeared out of nowhere. I love the lore and how the characters interact, but I think they overused it at times. Characters: I loved them all. At first, it bothered me a little that, in addition to being "geniuses" they were also foolish, but I think the problem lay more in the way the story was told than in the characters themselves. I liked them all, especially…

My main gripe with this show is that the characters are walking talking cardboard images of people with some stereotypes sprinkled in. You have the tsundere girl, the moe girl, the trans/crossdresser girl, the fat otaku, the cat girl, the shy glasses girl, and the main character who seemingly attracts all these weird and wacky people even though overall he isn't a very likeable person. All this would be fine if the show had given them other qualities so that the viewer can view them as more than their stereotype. The moe girl stays as just the moe girl, the hacker stays as just a hacker, and the cat girl stays as just a cat girl. Having a tragic backstory does not make a character interesting if their only quality is their stereotype. The show is filled with anime tropes and is very otaku…

I heard high praise about Steins;Gate and I always wondered what the high score on MAL was due to. Fortunately, I managed to avoid any spoilers (I'm now wondering if perhaps there aren't many). I only knew about the time travel stuff from the anime page. Coming from Re:Zero, I'd say I have a good grasp of this kind of stuff (another reason I was surprised that I hadn't been spoiled). The first part is more of a slice of life, where the cast is introduced. One aspect I noticed is how every character must cover a role tied to the main story; I found it kind of forced. Moreover, even given the story's setting, there's not much character development except for the main character and few others. A character I felt bad about is Ruka. A critique I have is how young adults are depicted. Living…

Have you ever thought of going to the past, time-travelling to fix something? Well, it isn't a pretty good idea. Due to how time works, timelines aren't pretty straightforward. This leads to every change in the timeline having a different reality, branching off from each other and creating divergence from the one you are standing on right now. Every time travel diverges your route and things keep getting more complex for your perception. Changing something may lead to an even worse point of reality, but there is a timeline far beyond which is perfect in any way possible. The story involves our crazy mad scientist Okabe Rintarou (his self-proclaimed name to 'deceive' the public) and his shenanigans. However, things take a dark turn when him and his friend Daru start to research about time…

Well Steins gate sure lives up to its name. Time travel is always a concept that is a very convenient way of making the author seem pretentious but Steins Gate is actually smart. It's an anime that pretty much makes you experience everything, and with the final episodes being genuinely perfect and an ending that did surprise me but quite fittign and satisfactory made me love this show even more. It's no denying the first 12 episodes can be rough for someone who isn't into slow burn with half baked info and plot lines getting thrown especially of a concept like time travel and although I liked the episodes quite a lot, I get it. The first half of the anime is however very VERY NECESSARY since going through those slow burn patient moments pay off the 2nd half so much and make you so much emo…

Given the fact I gave it a score of 100/100 back in 2018, at a time when it was only my 2nd watched anime and the 1st one I completed, I was a bit skeptical before starting the rewatch. I was telling myself that as much as I would love to enjoy it as much as I remember, I'll most likely not, and it probably won't be my 2nd favorite anime anymore (after being my top 1 for 4 years, and top 2 for the last 4 years).. but I was wrong, this anime is absolutely exceptional. Even though it is incomplete without Steins;Gate 0, the sheer amount of emotions of all kinds, mainly: tension, mystery, fear, sadness.. that are sent our way is completely insane and nearly unmatched in the entire Japanese anime industry, as far as I know to this day. I haven't put it on a pedestal in the past, now I know it…

It has a very unique premise; it is really hard to find a series that is so unique. It interested me so much, and I watched every episode with a sense of wonder. At first, I thought there wasn't enough information or flashbacks—I mean, things to help us bond with the characters—but after a certain point, it finally happened. I bonded and connected with them, especially on an emotional level. I think the characters are a bit cliché and basic, but they aren't bad, they're okay. I mean, at least we bonded and connected with the characters in the second half of the anime through specific scenes and episodes, especially involving the deaths. The anime has a very strong emotional core. It is also very strong plot-wise and conceptually. And I really liked the anime's gray atmosphere; it really su…

Oh man, what an emotional rollercoaster. It starts off so weird and quirky and quickly develops into this incredibly dark and emotionally devastating masterpiece. The story is a little predictable, or so you would think, then it shifts entirely. the art adapts as the story goes on, the unique and believable relationships were the core of this, a main character who is flawed on the surface, but underneath is quiet reasonable, the only odd thing was the "agents" but i havent seen the movie or anything else relating to this. Make it through the first few weird episodes, the pay off is immense.

The organization are on to me, they don't believe a sci Fi show could be this good. Characters with arcs and losses that hit the soul and twists that strike at your core. This started in the middle of a mad scientists life and kept the mystery and passion until the end of the story. When time travel is hopeful and tragically done in a way that leaves you satisfied it is worth watching. If your interested know that the set up and payoff is immense and paying attention in the more relaxed episodes leads to noticing more when topics are revisited. And remember, El psi congroo

Steins Gate is my favorite anime, definitely my top three, and probably my favorite fictional story in general; episode 12 onwards is the best storyline you'll see in an anime. Personally, I liked the art style. The plot is without holes, and it tied up really well at the end, which is very impressive for a time travel story, in fact this is the closest story to a perfect time travel story I've ever seen. Okabe Rintaro is a brilliant character. I can't think of a better MC than him. Other characters are also very well-rounded. Music is also great. However, the first 10-12 episodes will feel slow and a bit hard to get through, but trust me, it's going to hit you like a truck after that.

Is the story unique? Even if some plot points become predictable later, the execution and emotional buildup make it very engaging. The time travel aspect is handled with much more care than most anime. Do you think the art style fits the story? Yes. The slightly muted and grounded visual style matches the atmosphere perfectly and helps the tense moments feel more believable. Were the characters well-rounded? Most of the main cast have clear personalities, flaws, and emotional struggles. Okabe especially feels human because of how he changes under pressure instead of acting unrealistically perfect. Do you think others will enjoy or dislike this series? People who enjoy slow-burn thrillers and character-driven sci-fi will probably love it. Viewers who want constant action or fast pacing m…

dont believe the hype, the characters i guess are the most lacking, they’re barely stereotypes. the story is fine, not a lot happens, especially the first half, it’s a pretty simple time travel story, the science is very very lacking if you’re into hard sci-fi this won’t be all that. theres a whole thing about fate and destiny and love that you could enjoy or not depending on taste. personally i spaced out and had to go back several times because i was really bored throughout. sometimes they’d take mad leaps and i would go back to see what i missed but no, they just did that, dont think too hard about the science.
