Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers

Introduction

Takemichi Hanagaki's second year of middle school was the highest point in his life. He had respect, a gang of friends he could count on, and even a girlfriend. But that was twelve years ago. Today, he's a nobody: a washed-up nonentity made fun of by children and always forced to apologize to his younger boss. A sudden news report on the Tokyo Manji Gang's cruel murder of the only girlfriend he ever had alongside her brother only adds insult to injury. Half a second before a train ends his pitiful life for good, Takemichi flashes back to that same day 12 years ago, when he was still dating Hinata Tachibana. After being forced to relive the very same day that began his downward spiral, Takemichi meets Hinata's younger brother. Without thinking, he admits to his seeming death before flashing back to the past. Takemichi urges him to protect his sister before inexplicably returning to the future. Miraculously, he is not dead. Stranger still, the future has changed. It seems as though Takemichi can alter the flow of time. Given the chance to prevent his ex-girlfriend's tragic death at the hands of the Tokyo Manji Gang, Takemichi decides to fly through time to change the course of the future. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Absolutely fantastic first 11 episodes. Just some good, hard-coded testosterone ideals about taking ownership of your own fate, loyalty, and the power of friendship, with some time-travel shenanigans thrown in. Pretty damn good. Starting with episode 12 though, the story loses sight of what made it so compelling and turns into a much more standard shonen: rotating fights, melodramatic character backstories, and main character growth gets stagnant too. Honestly, the first 11 episodes are fantastic, and I'd recommend watching those alone. The story even gives you enough of a sense of closure at that point that you can comfortably leave it there, if you want.

Well finished Tokyo Revengers. It's a bit annoying as towards the end it did get a little draggy, and if it was a 18-ep season it'd be tighter and way more effective. MC does get annoying - the sobbing/crying character type who doesn't seem to progress or change despite all that happens to him is a bit much; though does seem to be a common type in other shows I watch. The gang realism in fights would have been welcome too: it didn't need to be massively over the top 100 men vs gorilla battles (though I understand the original material was like that). It did get melodramatic for sure, which wasn't that interesting for me and the slice of life episode I'm not sure how I feel about - seemed weird in the scope of the show but guess it was a decent change of pace. It's just weird putting it as…

I know how the manga ends and still hope this anime may take a different path, because it has a lot of potential. The story is nice, the time travel of having to shake Hina's little brother's hand to go back into the past was a creative way and the plot really revolves on saving Hina at first, but they kind of lose it when Takemichi just wants to save everyone at one point, which is when the plot gets a bit messy. The opening sequence also captures the audience well, and kept my attention span up for a while. The backstories are nice The fights are average, there's not really anything special, but watching Takemichi just get up over and over again makes me kind of annoyed. Not just in the beginning, but throughout the entire anime, this guy barely knows how to fight and honestly relies on…

This might genuinely be the most painful experience of my entire life. I’ve seen flawed protagonists before, but this guy takes it to another level — every choice he makes feels like a social experiment in how far someone can go without a single critical thought. He only makes terrible decisions, is unbelievably dumb, weak AND aesthetically painful to watch. I watched the entire series, start to finish, just to be able to say with full authority: IT DOES NOT GET BETTER Personally, I don’t think the story idea is bad, but the execution is AWFUL. It unfolds in the dumbest, most childish way possible. Looks like the show’s terrified someone might accidentally engage a brain cell. It might be the perfect anime for 11/12-year-old boys who think time travel and street gangs are the peak of co…

Tokyo Revengers is amazing and I really recommend it BUT I still have some mixed feelings because the main character is painfully unlikable. Its improving by the third season and it really just comes down to what you can tolerate. Takemitchy is not a bad person per se hes just a little frustrating. The other Characters are really amazing tho, especially when it comes down to backstories, motivation and development. The Art style, animation and especially the fight scenes are of course top notch. The character design is a bit goofy, especially if you remember that these are 14 to 17 year olds, that look like 20 year old bodybuilders. Tokyo Revengers may seem like a solo leveling type anime, where you can just turn your brain off and enjoy the fights. But the emotional damage hits hard e…

I really wanted to like this show. The plot is interesting - an MC with the ability to go to the past and change the tragedies in his life. Of course we knew it wasn't going to be easy, but GOOD LORD we didn't know it was because Takemichi, the MC, was incredibly incompetent and irritating. He's supposedly an adult in a teenage body and is the most immature character I've ever seen. In no way he is one of the characters that moves the story forward. He depends on everyone around him - not in a good friendship-is-all-you-need way, but as a he-cannot-do-anything-on-his-own that doesn't involve crying and screaming. He reminded me a bit of Natsuki in ReZero (in the 1st season), but at least Natsuki had a redemption arc and did grow from his mistakes and became a more developed character. It s…

The protagonist was the worst part of this anime. about this anime and manga. his antics made this anime unbearable and his lack of resolve was overwhelming. his overwhelming urge to cry for everything problem made it seem like theirs no personal growth. There was no urge to get strong to fight for the people he cares about. story art sound was good but what saved this anime as its cat or side character. it seemed like h was along for the rid only did a little influence the plot which wasn't much at all. the influence he showed was minuscule to other well-done characters. Story is only good because of the surroundings character .

It's a very interesting anime! The story is made very good, careful at the continuity. The characters are evolving constant and in every episode we find something shocking about these characters and the dark past they had. This thing about time travel in the past it was used in so many anime, but in this one is very captivating. you will get attached by the main character and his determination to save everything he loves. Most of the characters will change your perspective on the story and of course, they will change the choices through the episodes. I recommend this anime (and the manga)!

I remember watching this show before reading the manga. I know that the manga ended up being quite mediocre, but this one was where I subtly became a bit of a fan of the series and managed to keep up with the show. If you ignore the rest of the content in the manga and just focus on what happened in this show, you’ll see that they did justice to this arc, and it made me really enjoy it. It's a good starting point for someone wanting to get into the series before facing the rest and deciding what to do about it later. I felt very bad for the protagonist having to go back and forth in time to save his girlfriend at all costs, and I'll say the anime did well in making me empathize with the character development and all.

Season 1: 7/10 (wrote a paragraph for every point i took off). The main issue with S1 is undoubtedly the sad excuse of a protagonist (Takemichi) who never seems to evolve. Whether it be his inexistent fighting skills or weak mindset backed with flimsy courage, it wouldn't be an understatement to say that he's the most pathetic protagonist I've come across yet... S2 is such a game changer because it makes viewers reflect back and realize that the growth of Takemichi was ultimately very realistic- one doesn't become a skilled fighter just from integrating a street gang, nor is one always courageous when facing adversity. Takemichi isn't your usual OP, clever and fast-learning protagonist, he's just an average Joe living an unfulfilling life who's suddenly given an opportunity to change ever…

The plot for this anime was written by a 14 year old. I cannot explain why it's so bad in any other way. Tokyo Revengers has an interesting plotlline: the main character goes back in time to try and stop the murder of his ex-girlfriend (and some other, less important characters') in the present. It's similar to that of Erased, which is why some people have compared the two - but such comparisons are simply insulting to Erased. The most interesting part of such a plotline is how the main character will use the information he obtains in the present to change the past. This show seems to understand that, as to its credit, it spends a decent amount of time in the present, with the main character and his accomplice in time travel (the younger brother of said murdered ex-girlfriend) looking fo…

7.5/10 "Tokyo Revengers" is the first anime I watched about gangs, so I don't know how reliable my opinion is at this level, since I don't have any comparison standards. Overall, I enjoyed the first season a lot: engaging plot, cool characters, good fight scenes, etc., and it was very interesting to me, because I'd never seen animes regarding these themes, so it felt like a whole new thing for me, thus it made it very exciting. I like the base story a lot: the main character, Takemichi, has to travel back in time to save his ex-girlfriend from being killed by the Tokyo Manji Gang, and ends up befriending the leaders and, eventually, joining the gang. He soon realizes that his girlfriend, Hinata, is just one of the many people he has to save, since the gang is nothing like it was in the pa…

Tokyo Revengers I remember when the anime was released in 2021 and had gathered quite a lot of hype around it. It was compared to other similar works like "Erased" and seemed to be rather popular. Well at least for the first few months, somewhere in the middle of it, people suddenly stopped seeing any of the anime on YouTube or anywhere else, it was like it was gone and there was no trace of the fans. After I started watching this anime, I understood why that was the case. Despite all expectations, this anime/manga is blessed with a very interesting concept, especially for thriller fans. We have unexplained murders, time travel, and a protagonist who wants to stop it all. None of this is new or revolutionary, but it is a relatively good and successful approach. Nothing can go wrong with…

A moving crying hero and epic gangs At first it seemed generic to me, however the more I saw it the more I loved it. The whole aesthetic and concept of the gangs, their code, friendship, fights, clothing, hairstyles and styles is simply cool. The fights are not only meaningless fights, they have a purpose, a background and that is why watching them is meaningful and very exciting, definitely my favorite chapters are those related to bloody Halloween, the plot around that arc is very interesting and intriguing, even more because of the way it develops and even has tragic moments like Baji's death. I hope to have that great style and be part of Tokyo Manji, a great action anime and time travel drama. The bad thing is that it exasperates me that no matter what I do, the future is still tragic…

This anime persuaded me to read all the manga The characters are cool and I love the friendship the characters have There is so many plot twist and there is so much mystery of whats going to happen, and pursades you to wath next. Its still very organized and simple and you don't get lost what is going on. You can not predict what is going to happen. The characters are very unique and has balancfed screen time for each character too. I highly recommend this anime because the main character knows what is going to happen (because he can time travel) but doesn't know why it will happen in a chaotic situations.

I feel this series is being underestimated and unfairly rated by people when they say its slow, there is too much backstory, there is fillers, too many characters etc. They aren't wrong, there are some, but they are necessary to understand the total story and the value of each character in this serie. This is the first season: yes, you might feel there is sometimes too little information given out, and other times you feel like you're sitting at school along with Takumitchy getting everything explained how all these gangs works, and who all the characters are, but its necessary. If you didn't get this information, the whole anime/story line would've had a "hole" in it, an unfinished gap or a lot of viewers sitting with bunch of questions, which later would leave to this anime being dull a…

Tokyo Revengers, honestly, it's a bit of a letdown. I mean, seriously, what's up with Takemichi Hanagaki? He's supposed to be the main guy, but most of the time, he just comes off as this weak and ineffective character. It's like he's stuck in a perpetual state of self-pity, always crying and not really doing much that matters. I can't help but feel that his constant emotional breakdowns are just dragging the story down. And let's talk about the story itself - it's pretty superficial. I was expecting something deeper, you know? But instead, it feels like it's just scratching the surface. The plot needs more substance and complexity to keep the audience engaged. But seriously, Takemichi is probably the worst main character I've ever come across. It's like he's got the brain of a child or…
