Cardcaptor Sakura

Cardcaptor Sakura

Introduction

Ten-year-old Sakura Kinomoto is an ordinary fourth-grade student living in Tomoeda until, one day, she stumbles upon a mysterious book of cards titled "The Clow." Pondering over her discovery, she unintentionally causes a magical gust of wind to scatter the cards all over town. The accident awakens the Beast of the Seal—Keroberos, nicknamed "Kero"—who tells Sakura that she has released the mystical "Clow Cards" created by the sorcerer Clow Reed. Due to each Card's ability to act independently and their incredible power, Clow had sealed them away. Now that they have been set free, the Cards pose great danger to the world, and it is up to Sakura to put an end to them. Appointing Sakura as the "Cardcaptor" and granting her the Sealed Key, Kero tasks her with finding and recapturing all the Clow Cards. Alongside her best friend Tomoyo Daidouji, and with Kero's guidance, Sakura must learn to balance her new secret duty with the everyday troubles as she takes flight on her magical adventures as Cardcaptor Sakura. I'm not someone who usually finishes shows, and especially not long ones. CardCaptor Sakura, although it has 70 episodes, was truly an experience and I recommend it to anyone and everyone. I understand how some people may be offput by the length, but it has so much soul and hope that I don't understand how anyone could give this a low rating. It has an energy like no other. I'm watching this decades after it's creation and it still gave me this nostalgic feelings, like I had watched this dug into soft carpet, turning the TV on in the late 90s. I love this show and the only thing I can be upset about is that I cannot rewatch all of these episodes for the first time again. It was slow at some parts, sure, but the messages are beautiful. I'm a sad person most of, if not all the time, and this…

Cardcaptor Sakura: The Magic of the Heart. A Timeless Classic Cardcaptor Sakura is a work that, despite its magical girl premise, transcends the genre to become a timeless classic. The story follows Sakura Kinomoto, a 10-year-old girl who accidentally releases a deck of magical cards, the Clow Cards. With the help of her guardian, Cerberus (Kero), Sakura must become a "Cardcaptor" and recapture every card before they wreak havoc on the world. The series' greatest strength is its timelessness and its immense heart. The work is a pure and optimistic exploration of friendship, family, responsibility, and courage. The narrative, with a deliberate pace, allows each episode to focus on the capture of a single card and on Sakura's emotional development. Her growth from a naive girl to a confiden…

Even as of 2025, Sakura manages to stand out from the magical girl crowd. Unlike Sailor Moon or Precure where the girls' power comes from an external source, Sakura resembles an adventure game protagonist who uses existing her existing card toolset to subdue and catch Clow spirits and gain new powers (e.g. Wood is normally gentle, but something is causing it to run amok). This allows the audience, especially kids, to put themselves in her shoes and try to solve the puzzle themselves, and child me certainly enjoyed being able to look up to the protagonist, especially since girly characters were usually portrayed as clueless and ditzy. But if you ask me, the real star of the show is Meiling. She's a polarizing character because she's anime exclusive and a whiny brat, but her story about bei…

9/10 (This review is for the entire series: TV, Movie 1, Movie 2) Cardcaptor Sakura remains one of the most timeless superhero stories for girls, and for a reason. While cliche on the surface, the series defies genre conventions by exploring themes of relationships, personal growth, and identity. Rich characters, fun world building, and high production values make this series close to a masterpiece. Not only do we see strong growth from our MC Sakura, but deuteragonist Syaoran Li truly steals the show as Sakura’s equal. The monster of the week‘s slow pace can be a turnoff, and its saccharine world sometimes shies away from deeper conflict, yet its overall presentation allows for some of the most organic character growth seen in this genre. A product of its time, character transformation an…

I watched Cardcaptor Sakura when I was a kid and loved it, and revisiting it now just made me appreciate it more. It holds up in a way not many childhood shows do. The pacing is calm but intentional, and the characters feel real in how they deal with everyday problems layered under the magical ones. Sakura is kind without being overly sweet, and her determination feels genuine. The show doesn’t need to scream to be heard it’s gentle, but it knows exactly what it wants to say. Kero’s still funny, Tomoyo’s loyalty is still kind of touching, and the whole atmosphere has this quiet emotional clarity that’s rare. It’s not just nostalgia. There’s something really human underneath all the fantasy something about growing up, facing change, and doing it with a sense of hope. The show doesn’t prete…

I dont know how I stumbled upon this anime but.. What a find it was!!! I absolutely adore this anime <3 The 1st 45 epsiodes are really good! Heartwarming, sweet, pleasant, adorable (sorry couldnt help myself) life of our one and only cardcaptor :D If u look at the core of the story and plot u may or maynot find it as amusing, but what sold me was the LITTLE things.. soo many little things that can dwell you in bliss ^^ Just take your time and savour its beauty I am personally not a fan of the 3rd segment (last 25ep) felt unnecessary. Also am not convinced with the way few things got resolved in the end. Characters: I love them all!!! Touya, Tomoyo, Sakura, .. Chiharu x Yamazaki :D .. u will love at least on of them for sure! Music: I watched it a while ago, my memory is piss poor.. bu…

Speaking about The Tempest, Samuel Johnson wrote that "whatever might be Shakespeare's intention in forming or adopting the plot, he has made it instrumental to the production of many characters, diversified with boundless invention, and preserved with profound skill in nature, extensive knowledge of opinions, and accurate observation of life." Although much has changed from the days of either Johnson or Shakespeare, Cardcaptor Sakura manages to establish its own form of genre hyperspecificity. With this in mind, traditional English theatre should not be viewed as directly comparable to anime, owing to the lack of production value and choreography (as it is understood within a cinematic context) in the former case, and while Cardcaptor Sakura is certainly no exercise in trying to imitate S…

Cardcaptor Sakura is one of the most influential anime of all in the 90s and for many reasons. The show is not just a magical girl show, it’s still a shoujo anime with a bit of fantasy in it and also a slice of life in the mix. I think all of the characters are really likable and have very charming and unique personalities as they went along. Cardcaptor Sakura rivals sailor moon because it a magical girl show that doesn’t use transformations to solve a problem. Sakura is more developed than Usagi because she is more relatable in sense that Sakura is more responsible for her actions. So on the side note, the history of the English dub of the show was a complete mess. The ocean dub of the show was fine for the most part and it was distributed by Nelvana. But how it was handled was a disa…

Cardcaptor Sakura is a very good anime that has captivated me. This is the fasted that I've ever binged an anime. It sucked me into its world with its charming cast and writing. I've watched Kakuriyo before this. It's weird to bring up, but I always compare anime when writing something, and I have to compare these two because what Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi does wrong, Cardcaptor Sakura does right. Both of these are basically a merging of the normal world with the fantasy and supernatural. Though Kakuriyo does this WRONG. Mostly because they tried to put the girl into the hidden realm and have her cook food for supernatural people, but they never both to build the world and build up the people. That's why Cardcaptor Sakura is a success at this. It does have magical and supernatural elements. I…

*The ending's strong brainwash still left the messy spots unperturbed* ~~ !! SPOILER-FILLED REVIEW/REFLECTION !! ~~ I don't even think I've outgrown children's shows. I literally adore Takahata's adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. Looking at my favorites, Inazuma Eleven's high up there as well, so I cannot give the reason of me growing out of pure, innocently hopeful, and straightforward tales such as Cardcaptor Sakura as the cause of my substantial lack of affection. Much to my frustration, I noticed a lot of flaws in mind. To get straight to it, the magical system's ceiling is far too high for a child like Sakura to reach. Clow Cards! Amazing, hooked me the instant Sakura showed the powers off. Incantations, magic circles, flying, arcane wizardry, adorable characters defending the…

I watched a bunch of this as young kid (age 3-6-ish) never knowing what anime was at that time. I didn't remember it very well. Re-watching it as an adult in Japanese I slowly remembered bits and pieces of it. The show is far better than I thought it would be, I didn't expect to like it that much, I just thought it would be a fun nostalgia trip. But Cardcaptor Sakura is a complete masterpiece. This is peak wholesome! It belongs in the #1 slot of the iyashikei genre. Yet there's far more to it than that. This show is a romance unlike any I've ever seen before. Everything about this show is perfected to a level which you rarely see. The animation, though the style may look dated to some is beautiful and brimming with beauty, artistry, cuteness, mysteriousness and conveys a child-like…

(sorry for any mistakes, english is not my first language) I rewatched Cardcaptor Sakura these days because the anime marked my childhood along with sailor moon, it was one of the few known animes in Brazil and that aired on open TV dubbed, and I simply fell in love again. Even having a generic mahou shoujo premise that a girl lives her life normally until she encounters a magical animal that convinces her to defeat some type of villain, Cardcaptor Sakura is a great base and reference for maho shoujo, both for being a classic and how the story and emotions of the characters emerge in a natural and gradual way, nothing rushed or appealing, both the main and secondary characters have their development as well as presenting hidden sides of themselves. And also the diverse clothes without an…

This took me forever to watch, but what a wholesome show. This was pure silly, cute fun and I loved it. Probably won't rewatch because the plot and character development didn't exactly have me riveted, but I enjoyed every second. Couldn't quite get fully invested bc of how most of the characters were children and the storylines in each episode were usually pretty simple and childish. At the same time though, that's exactly why I loved it so much. It was great to just throw on and feel good watching. I could basically turn my brain off and relax and know I was watching something, good, but not complex. I still managed to get somewhat attached to the characters, like I wanna protect them all. Definitely recommend giving this a watch through, it's a fun ride.

I grew up watching Cardcaptor Sakura. Although, I wasn't able to read the manga yet, I'm pleased to share that I was able to successfully watch and complete the whole series. I fell in-love with the title, music, art and the characters and their stories. The clothes were a bonus to boot. I won't be spoiling the series for those who haven't watched it yet, but here's a few things I'd like to share. Clamp writes a universe of cross overs. There manga's are intricately intertwined that you are left wanting to discover more. While it's a debate how and which route their stories will take. What I can definitely share is that the story doesn't just end with cardcaptor sakura's transition into receiving clow's cards or developing her own magic. a definite must watch if you're looking for a…

All right, so I'm slightly biased. This was one of my very first anime, during my magical girl phase...which admittedly, I never really got out of. It's a lighthearted, funny, cute "magical girl" anime with gorgeous (albeit old) art, amazing music, and really great character development (in my opinion). The story drags on at points. I don't think 70 episodes was necessary to get the plot across, however once it hit a certain point, it was very hard to stop watching. There were an appropriate amount of plot twists. And Sakura's romance with Syaoran was really cute and also appropriate for her age. Throw in her beautiful friendship with Tomoyo (and even Meiling) and it was realllllly cute. So while the anime was slow at times, it really did pull together at the end. I'm excited to watc…

I believe Cardcaptor Sakura to be one of the best magical girl type shoujo anime out there. Now as someone who doesn't really watch much of this genre I don't have a lot to compare CCS to, but that is because frankly most anime like this doesn't interest me that much. I often find myself bored by what feels like the same unrealistic romance tropes portrayed in magical girl shoujo, the classic girl meets boy and immediately falls in love after some heroic type antics. Don't get me wrong, classic idealized romance can be enjoyable from time to time, but in a long series of over 40 episodes or so the constant fawning over each other can get repetitive. The ability to stray away from this overused trope is what I believe makes Cardcaptor Sakura worthy of high praise. The relationships betw…

Of all the animes I could have picked to watch with my little sister, I picked this one. I picked an anime about a little girl who goes on an adventure collecting magic cards. After three months of watching this anime I finally finished it. The question is, WAS IT WORTH IT? Cardcaptor Sakura is awesome. Maybe it's just because I had such low (or really nonexistent) expectations, but I thoroughly enjoyed this anime for a number of reasons. So let me tell you all why I liked Cardcaptor Sakura, and why I'd even go so far as to say that I think it's one of the best Mahou Shoujo animes. So I'm gonna get the negatives out of the way first. The story has a bit of plot convenience and the laws of the universe can be confusing to me at times. The Animation isn't all that special. It kind of blows…

When it comes to anime, I am usually not a fan of magical girl shows, but I felt like this was a particularly exceptional series. I don't think that this is the best anime series I'd ever seen, but I think it stands out as a pretty good one that deserves recognition. What sets Cardcaptor Sakura apart from most other magical girl series are the costume transformation scenes, for one. In most other magical girl shows, the protagonists typically have fancy transformation scenes before they engage the villains in battle. The "costumes" are usually the same every battle with some small changes later in the series to indicate some kind of newfound power that the magic users have discovered within themselves. In CCS, Sakura dons a different costume each episode thanks to a special someone who p…

Where do I begin? This is a show I have wanted to watch for a while and I’m ashamed I put it off for so long. The story is incredible. So much fun every episode with a consistent motive that drives the story forward and makes it so it is never boring. On top of that, I love the art! I know some may not but to me it is so gorgeous! The background, the characters, the magic! Beautiful. Additionally, I have both openings and some of the other songs downloaded on my playlists! They are so fun and set the tone well. My only problem, which is somewhat big, is the repeating teacher/student relationships mentioned. Not really a spoiler but this is the dynamic between Sakura’s parents (one example, eek). They talk about it a lot and they don’t glorify it per se but they definitely don’t shame it. T…
