Divine Gate

Divine Gate

Introduction

The legend of the Divine Gate is a story told to young children that depicts the merging of the living world, the heavens, and the underworld. "Adapters"—people born with unique elemental abilities gifted to them from the union of these worlds—formed the World Council, an organization which controls the chaos of the Gate by portraying its legend as nothing more than a myth. These Adapters train in a special academy owned by the World Council that allows the students to hone their skills. Aoto, a teenage boy with exceptional water powers and a tragic past, rejects the offer to join the academy numerous times—until he is successfully pressured by the energetic wind user Midori and stubborn fire user Akane. Together, with the World Council and their mysterious leader Arthur, they seek out the Gate in the hopes of uncovering the truth. But in order to reach their goals, they must unite and overcome their own despair while dealing with behind the scene mischief. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Talk about a series being way too short for its own good. Divine Gate is what happens when a show has all the ingredients to be incredible, then somehow turns itself into one of the most frustrating anime viewing experiences imaginable. Since this is the first negative review being posted, it only feels fair to cover the positives first. And to be clear, Divine Gate does have positives. The problem is that the scale is tipped so heavily toward criticism that the good parts almost make the show more annoying, because you can constantly see the better version of this anime trying to break through. The first major positive is the opening. Opening and ending songs have not been mentioned much in these reviews, but Divine Gate is probably best remembered for having one of the most energetic…

In my opinion the real problem with this anime is the lack of plot, the lack of storyline. The explanation of how their things work and what the characters are doing is also not portraited well. Simply put the storyline is not interesting. The usage of CGI in some of the battle scenes also gave me bad impressions. Although the characters, the animation and the theme songs gave me very good impressions. There ware only a few characters i actually disliked. This anime has such potential of becoming soo good but the problem is the lack of events happening. Like literally there ware just a few fights and the mc reached the gate, he even decided not to go into it. Basically if the anime had a little bit longer story(like 50-100 episodes), then they reach the gate and for example the mc finally…

Divine Gate was an average sci-fi fantasy watch, until the ending rendered it unsatisfying. The characters clearly had an objective, but they never solved anything in the end. All the build up was wasted and essentially the story went back to square one. The characters were fine, but not groundbreaking and the premise seemed fun at first until it reach generic territory. The trio were typical: we got energetic boy, slightly serious boy with a traumatic past, and happy girl with friendship issues. Together they fight to fulfill the goals they will fail to accomplish anyway. The villain was also typical and the adult characters were typically like anime adults with too much time on their hands. The artwork and animation weren't special and the OST was forgettable. Overall, it's not an awf…

Was it the best anime I've ever seen? no, far from it. But I LOVED the art style and I did really feel for the three main characters. Each of them had their own unique storyline, that I actually believed were pretty fleshed out under the 12 episode time crunch they had. Did I mention that the art style was absolutely captivating? It was a good one-day binge watch. I am actually pretty upset that this didn't get a season two after the ending we got left off on. I was even more disappointed to find out here is no manga for me to go read and catch up on.

to be honest, the reason i watch this one back then because i was also playing the Mobile Version of Divine Gate, and since the game was JP, so i don't really understand with the story, the game version was enjoyable, the anime, well....... what can i say, pretty bad in my opinion, to be honest, i was just happy to see Yukari and Hikari ( also Midori ) get animated, but what the heck with the Aoto, i was laughing my ass of when he become hostile towards Akane, also, i don't really care about Ginji because i even didn't use him in game lol, not even interested in him in Anime, also i was overjoyed when Crowley make an appearance on the last episode, tho only for a moment............. anyway it's good enough if you don't have anything to watch, or just want to add it to your watch list, not…

Now this shows promised a lot but failed to deliver. The main problem with this anime is how it tries to be phylosophical and deep although being just a typical shounen anime. The first annoying thing you will notice is lot of narration describing what characters feel instead of showing this to way in other ways. The other big problem is the last episodes. They fight to the end to change their fate and break free from destiny and then give up and accept being controlled by the Council. This looks like NWO propaganda. They could have changed the world so that there is no more superpowers and that all the effects of the gates were gone, the council and the so called gods destroyed and no more gate, but no they decided to change themselves even though as long as they leave their fates to be co…

Obviously this show went over a lot of people heads. It was actually an amazing anime. The fact that it was able to surprise without losing consistency and keep on point all while being clear what's going on was a fantastic asset. The incorporation of gods and the references to famous medieval people was brilliantly done. The show also incorporated the use of Happiness and Despair to a perfect degree. A lot of original Ideas came out of it. No other anime that I have watched has used a plot like that before. The only real criticism that can be had here is the deus ex revive. Overall the show deserves a 9/10 at worst.

What to do oh what to do. I completed 200 anime so props to myself for that. Cause of that I probably should being reviewing that or my 201st but no. Instead, I must force myself to recall the horrors of the anime with one of the most annoying narrators in my entire existence....Divine Gate. I have no history with this. I don't know anything about the mobile game this is based off of. This is something that purely caught my interest and that's about it. Let's just get this over with as I do another review after a long time of not doing them....oh yeah spoiler warning I guess cause I might spoil something....on with the review Story:......Where the holy f*ck do I begin....Guess the fact that this show is about some gate that has been around for decades or centuries in this world and can g…

That's literally what I define a "Fail-Ambitious" project: those kind of things that are made thinking to create a masterpiece, and then fail really hard, so hard that even a blind guy would get how bad is this show by only listening to the dialogues... The artwork looked to be good even if computer based, a rare thing that deceived me, but the more episodes I would watch the more I would be disappointed. The story has no sense, character are so freaking stereotyped and poor characteryzed to make me ill.. overall a boring show that made me mad for losing 12x24min of my life...

I have not played the game and I'm not counting the game. This review is based solely about the anime, which is a complete piece of crap. They introduce characters left and right. At first it seems to start fine, the plot developement is stupid but you can still comprehend it but then it just keeps building up, relentlessly feeding you information about useless crap that it never utilises or introduces characters that are killed off in next episode. I have a feeling that they just wanted to cram everything into the anime hoping that it would be better for the fans to relate to but to the people who knew nothing about the series, it was a complete mess. It has 42 characters, 42. Oh my god, and it tries to make the viewer know every one of them but fails miserably. Asides from the charac…

Divine gate is an anime that is anything but loved. It's something new comes can enjoy, but that's the best I can say. I did enjoy parts of this show. To start off with the best part, I'd say I really liked the main characters of this show. I thought they were good characters with good backstories. I even liked a few of the side characters. The problem is that there are multiple side characters that aren't very well fleshed out, because of the short length of the series. The concept of the series is also pretty good, but yet again, doesn't get enough time to flesh everything out. There are plot points that look important, but mean nothing. There are characters who just make decisions without any logic. There are also characters who are too overpowered. I liked the music of the series.…

I've watched a lot of anime. But, this is the first time I'm actually bothering to write a review. That's how bad this one was. I dropped it thrice on the first ep before finally deciding to complete it. Bad concepts. Generic. Trying too hard to impress with "deep" dark extremely edgy inner monologue-like moments and failing spectacularly. The animation was pretty, but that should be a given at this day and age. I guess I wouldn't be hating it so much if I had not watched it right after katanagatari which I really enjoyed. Maybe I'll go rewatch SAO and then rewatch this (never) so I can get a complete and unbiased picture of how bad it is. TLDR: It's nothing special. Actually it's special in how bad it is. Do not watch. Do not read the synopsis. DO recommend it to people you do not like.…

First review. Brief review because I don't want to waste too much of my time in writing this. Reviewing only because this anime was so bad that it stuck out to me. . The only reason why I toughed it out and finished this entire anime was because of its opening song. Other than that, the overall anime was lackluster. Watching the first episode led me to believe that this anime had a lot of potential. There were a lot of interesting ideas that could have been explored and further developed. However, as I watched on, I realized that this anime carried a lot of elements that are strikingly similar to other animes. Firstly, the concept of this anime very closely resembled Fullmetal Alchemist. It resembled it so closely that it might as well have been a rip-off. Secondly, the three main charac…

When I think about it this anime reminds me a lot of the TARDIS, it has so much bullshit crammed into it that when i was finished I had to take a step back just to make sure it was only 12 episodes. Despite its standard length this show manages to cram in every cliche, drawn out fight scene and mythological creature to create a mixture of so many things its difficult to care about any of them. Let's start with characters. The main protagonist is a typical, emotionally detached hero with a nondescript tragic backstory that manages to tell you nothing about him. To back him up we have your typical moe female support who wants to see the good in him and the boy she doesn't realise is in love with her. For supporting characters we have every mythological figure ever. From the norse gods to Me…

NO SPOILERS This anime could be one of the worst of the year this my first review i will keep it short story - the story was weak, it felt to forced ,it felt rushed like there is nothing more i can say art - the art was different something new it did not throw me off the anime, the art was what got me interested in the first place sound - the sound was normal character - too many characters , did not understand any of them. none of them were enjoyable i did not feel connections to the characters Enjoyment - There were some moments that were exciting Overall - the story could have been great if it was not so complex and with its art style could have been a great anime and also if the anime was a bit longer giving us time to understand each character maybe it would have been differ…

Every season, you’ll have at least one anime that is terrible and has a good amount of people watching it. This season, it’s Divine Gate. There are anime that no words can describe them. Divine Gate fall into that category, not because it’s good, but because it’s halfheartedly made that I can’t explain how lazy it is. Its narrative is uninteresting, the characters are outrageously poorly-written, and the plot is all over the place. When the best thing about your anime is the OP, you know there’s something wrong with that anime. It’s better off as smartphone game, because the anime is nothing short of pretentious. ~{Story}~ The premise about some large organization or something that wants to find something called the “Divine Gate”, which is apparently a myth. They need to find the gate fo…

Overrated. The anime was made half-baked, the characters are super annoying, I can't see the point of the story, and it's uninteresting. I only watched this because the graphics are nice, well.. looks can be deceiving. One more thing, it fails to give the enjoyment and thrill viewers are looking for when they are watching a new anime. It's a waste of time, truly disappointing. The anime really wanted to impress the viewers, rather than to express, that's why it was really overrated. Every episode, my only reaction is "What the heck??!" I really hate this anime, everything is annoying, particularly the dialog of the characters. It's really nonsense to watch this anime. I can't believe i finished all the episodes. I will nominate it as "The Worst Anime of Winter 2016"

NOTE: This MAY contain spoilers! Story 6/10: There's a lot of action and fighting scenes for the characters on their quest to search for divine gate who wishes to change their past. It was okay, but there are times where it seems that they have dragged on for too long. Characters 7/10: There was a lot of characters that are introduced in the series. They have cool powers called "Drivers" & they are based on the elements (like Earth, Fire & Water). Akane is honest and straight-forward. His Driver is the power of FIRE. Aoto is very distant and monotone. His driver involves the power of WATER. Midori is very cheerful and happy. Her driver has the power of WIND. There are also some references to the medieval timeline & fairy tales (i.e.: Shakespeare, King Arthur & Lancelot, Loki & Oz -- who…

Watching Divine Gate is like watching a train filled with feces crash in slow-motion while listening to some angsty teenager's self-reflective interpretation of Linkin Park. You know the outcome, you know it will inevitably wind up as a shit storm, but you can't stop watching. In the first thirty seconds of the show, it's established that our main character, Aoi-- if not the entire story-- is edgy. Like, walking-on-knives-and-the-rain-hides-the-tears-in-my-eyes-and-I-can't-stop-writing-poetry level edge. I'm not joking. Not even Edgar Allen Poe would be able to take this shit seriously. But hey, who cares what the protagonist is like as long as the supporting cast and the plot's decent? It doesn't matter if every episode has a three minute narration overemphasizing how depressed these kid…

I watched this show when it was simulcasted and have been too busy with other things than to be writing a review for this. I would like to state this show is pretty much a waste of time to watch. if you have seen a trailer it might look pretty animation wise but does not cover the hot mess this show is. Story 2/10 The first two episode where ok story wise but what followed those two episode where the following problems. The only story the viewer are interested in after watching the first two episodes is the story of Aoto. However they decided to mike in a load of subplots and introduce a load of characters over the course of the ten episodes that follow. Other problems include pacing that was extremely fast and loads of flashbacks that don't help the viewer understand the characters bet…
