Tales of Zestiria the X

Tales of Zestiria the X

Introduction

The Celestial Records speak of the existence of the "Seraphim," a race of divine beings who give blessings to humanity and are offered prayers by them in return. Those who are anointed with the ability to interact with these spirits are known as "Shepherds." Hailed as heroes for their prompt appearances in times of crisis, while also being feared for their power, the Shepherds are imprinted in common folklore along with the Seraphim. Sorey is a young human who has spent his entire life living in harmony alongside the Seraphim in the village of Elysia. Fascinated by the myths of the Celestial Records, he explores some nearby ruins with Mikleo—his childhood Seraphim companion—hoping to enlighten himself about the Seraphims' history with mankind. Unfortunately, they become trapped in the depths of the historical site during their investigation. While searching for an exit, they come across a mysterious girl who desperately seeks the help of a Shepherd to save the world, which is on the brink of being consumed by darkness. Despite Mikleo's warning about making contact with other humans, Sorey decides to help the stranger, which unknowingly leads him closer to the dream of peaceful coexistence between man and Seraphim. I believe that Zestiria is largely misunderstood by many of the viewers. When I attended school many years ago, they taught literature. They taught how to understands metaphors, and how to use the word "literal" properly. Zestiria is not meant to be interpreted literally. The universe which is the setting for Zestiria is not our own. The viewer is not meant to apply their common sense to what they are viewing. So let's first define the universe of Zestiria explicitly. First, I know about the game upon which Zestiria is based. I understand that the way anime tells the story is related to the basic outline of the plot in the game. However, the fundamental metaphor in both the game and the anime series is the same. In common literature, humans are understood to have mixed motivations. It som…

Quick review here; Before anything, I would like to let you know I never played and don't know a single thing about the game it's based on. Tales of Zestiria the Cross is a good anime, but it's quite forgetable. There are many good ideas, both world building and storywise, but in the end it doesnt really stand out to me. Even though there aren't many clishés, they don't try to fill in that void which the missing clishé left behind. Many characters feel empty. It also intoduces us to many characters, but don't really use them in this season. The few expections might be Alisha and Sorey (the main character). Even the action scenes are forgetable, as they use many (decent) CGI, mainly to animate the monsters of this universe, the hellions. They don't look bad at all, in fact, the textures…

Tales of Zestiria the Cross, a video game adaptation that doesn't quite nail what is needed to being a good anime. Animation / Art / General Visuals - 9/10 ----------------------------------------------- If there's a high point for the show, it's the high production values. Ufotable is known for their high quality art and animations, and this show is no different. The show looks beautiful. The action scenes flashy. Though it is a little dragged down by sub-par build ups and resolutions. Though I'll put that on the weak videogame foundation. Sound / Music / Voice Acting - 9/10 ------------------------------------------ Again, high production values across the board. I don't know if the sound-track is adapted from the game, but it's top notch stuff with powerful tunes of all kinds for…

Before start i should say that my english is not perfect so i'm sorry if i do some spelling mistake. I will start saying that i never play any of the Tales of games, so i don´t know how they are but this anime simply havent soul, is like those generic anime with generic story and generic characters. STORY 2/10 Like i said before the story is just a generic fantasy tale about a guy that suddenly becomes in the "choosen one" and gain the power to save the world, for do that, he must embark in a travel through the world and do thinds like a hero would do. ART 7/10 This is the better part of the series, i think that everybody know about the good animation that Ufotable does. But in this anime i feel that even in this point it was below the averange that the studio usually does (probably fat…

This is my first review so forgive me for the mistakes and vagueness of this review. I will try my best not to give any spoilers. The anime is decent and enjoyable for sure. I found this in a youtube video about animes with overpowered MCs. But to my surprise, the MC isn't overpowered at all. His power rises slowly but still can't be considered overpowered even after increased power. The only thing that works for this anime is animation. The animation is splendid as expected of Ufotable. The attacks they use, other effects, and especially the dragons. All are animated so beautifully. The plot is pretty half-baked. The story is boring. Also, other characters are far more interesting than the MC. This means the only thing you will remember about this anime, later on, is its splendid art and…

The story is nothing special. Just the usual MC and his friends go save the world. The best part about this anime is that the graphic and animation. Likes: the great graphic drawing and design which is similar to Final Fantasy IX and give that vibe. Really remind me of the good old days. playing FF. Dislike: The story is 3/10. The director really needs to plan the storyline better rather than the problem appear and solve. Similar story to Shaman King Graphic and world-building 10/10 Breathtaking. the great graphic drawing and design which is similar to Final Fantasy IX and give that vibe. Really remind me of the good old days. playing FF. Music 10/10 Tales of Zestiria the X contains a number of different soundtracks, many of which are remixes of tracks in the game. However, they a…

I have rarely encountered a story, anime or otherwise, that has such shallow, cliched, characters and overused tropes as this anime does. They are condensed and in no logical order. Here's the plot formula. If only the MC had 'x'. Oh hey, there's 'x'. Hooray, we're all saved. Rinse and repeat. With all the swords in Japanese anime, including this one, that actually don't cut people ever, I wonder how it is that there aren't hundreds of deaths a year in Japan from kids whacking each other with swords or stabbing each other with knives. If you took any 20 Japanese anime dialogues and plot developments, put them into sentences and then somehow averaged them you might just get this anime. Meet this character, he's cool because we said so. He doesn't look or act cool. Doesn't matter cause he's…

There's a lot wrong with this anime, I'm not gonna lie to you guys. You wanna know where this anime succeeds? Music and art. That is, essentially, all that it did 100% well. The BGM was always chosen really nicely, in my opinion, as it fit the scenes perfectly. As far as the art, we all know ufotable lives up to its own reputation in that regard, especially so when it comes to lights, landscapes, and architecture. The CGI in this particular anime does get a bit out of hand in places, but it isn't like it dominates the whole art style, so it's easy to look past. Everything else, though... I wanna say "ouch," but maybe that's too harsh. Let's just get to it and start with the story and premise as a whole. Honestly, I have no idea what the story is. I think the world-building that was done…

Tales of Zestiria the Cross is an action adventure that forgot to bring the action and was too busy with dialogue to make the adventure feel meaningful, but there's still enjoyment to be had here and moments where everything (temporarily) fits together. Story 5/10; Mediocre If you watched the OP (or better yet, the game's OP) and thought there'd be more like it in the anime, you're in to be disappointed. It follows a pretty generic fantasy adventure plotline, but the world is captivating enough to hold your interest. Ancient ruins to explore, a city in the middle of a lake, spirit-filled forests and demon-laden catacombs can all be found here...but you never get to feel like you've experienced any of them because the story spends so much time with the protagonist "Sorey" or one of two fe…

Why the name Zestiria?, because it's the Passion that "Zest" Lighting the World of RPG's. YUP that sums it up perfectly. This anime is based off of the tales franchise - tales of zestiria (and a tiny bit of tales of berseria somewhere in 1st/2nd season) (Short Review- Was a fun, unoriginal concept but polished and very enjoyable. The biggest problem was the episodes based on tales of berseria because it wasnt till I looked up the tales games that I realized that this wasnt a character related to this story at all even though she has a few episodes in the middle of season 1 or 2 dedicated to her/her world) Story was pretty fun, nothing unique. I havent played any Tales games beforehand so it felt very reminiscent of Legend of Zelda the Minish Cap. Art is ufotable so great and shiny. Same with sound. Characters arent anything you wouldnt expect, there were a bit of character pacing issues that I expect…

The first thing that strikes me about Tales of Zestiria is the pure beauty of it. The animation is top flight from start to finish. The use of CG makes for breathtaking battle scenes and animation, and the character design was very, very cool. Especially, when it came to Lailah and Velvet Crowe. I really have to point out the excellence of the fight scenes, especially when it came to hand-to-hand combat. While there are a lot of bombastic, big fights in this anime, I was most entertained by the simpler sword fights, because of their fluid animation style. Beyond this, the characters were likable, but a little two-dimensional. There wasn't a whole lot of depth to the cast. They were basically just like RPG characters (this is based off of a game) and their primary motivations pretty much…

Tales of zestiria the X is in my opinion an average anime........for some the story might be a little boring and i am one of them they kinda failed to make moments from which we expect great hype and brilliance to be up to our expectations although it was improved later on in the season 2.... It made me hoked to it because of great animation quality...No doubt Ufotable makes one of the best animations.... The plot was improved greatly afterwards not be afraid it was not that boring it simply failed to express that epicness which we were expecting !!! characters: 8 It has some interesting characters with proper back story although i cant say much about the ships though they were a total fail lol (you will understand what i am trying to say after you watch it) story: 7 It was a nice co…

TALES OF ZESTIRIA THE X SEASON 1 ANIME REVIEW WARNING: SPOILER OVERALL: 10/10 PLOT: 10/10 One of the most intriguing topic is human nature, for me. Thus, this anime series is unexpectedly good. I thought this will only consist of a normal adventure-action anime tag along with a loli character, a bishounen, you get what my point is. But it is perfect. It has a great combination of reality and fantasy. It contains of deeper views of human emotions, how they think, how they react, how fragile they can be. How a simple misunderstanding can lead to such agony and pain. How weak humans are when it comes to their feelings, their greed which is making the decisions for them. That very thing, that weakness, is what this anime makes into reality. How it can change the world, and can destroy the…

Had to write a review on this one because it came from such a greatly respected studio, and it was quite disappointing to say the least. TL;DR This anime looks absolutely breathtaking as expected of Ufotable. However, the story is bland and generic, with characters just as mundane. The plot progression doesn't make sense outside of the gaming medium (it's source material) and so it fails spectacularly as an anime. It entirely lacks a "hook" something that grabs you, and makes you desire to keep watching. Visuals - 7.5/10 As expected from Ufotable the visuals are great. Easily one of the best studios for producing quality visuals. Only complaint was the CGI dragons which felt out of place. CGI is notoriously difficult to get right and even then people will still complain. Music 4.5/10 M…

(This review has been adapted from my blog/reddit thread. Spoilers ahead!) Tales of Symphonia is one of my favorite GameCube games that I played when I was kid. I don’t remember it all too well now, having not gone through it for many, many years. But I do recall something silly I did with it. I read a strategy guide that stated (and I had to go online to make sure I was remembering this right because I wasn’t) if I only used Lloyd’s wooden blades up until a certain point, I would unlock a special title. Being unable to pass up on such a sweet deal, despite being well into the game at this point, I erased my file, started anew, and became the “Eternal Apprentice.” (Not the most flattering of achievements.) Thinking back on it, it was not a good move to do that at all. It wasn’t even ne…

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS FOR THIS REVIEW! Please don't read any further if you don't want to be spoiled! Okay, so. I really, REALLY wanted to like Tales of Zestiria the X. I truly did. If I hadn't played the game first I think I'd have enjoyed it a lot more than I did, but after playing the game and then watching the series... I can safely say that as much as I didn't like the game like that much, I preferred it to the mess that was this first season. Overall yes, I enjoyed it. Mostly because I kept reminding myself that the anime and the game were going to be separate. It was why I forgave a few things, but the story was just so abysmal that I cannot find it within myself to excuse it. I'm not even sure where to START to be honest, there are just so many things I want to say. First off,…

Story: 5/10 The story is pretty decent but there are things that need additional explanation. I spent some time looking for information so I could eventually understand everything that was happening. Like there are some characters that were only mentioned but had significance for the whole story. Art: 6/10 I’m not quite sure how I feel about the art. It’s good but changing between 2D and CGI mode was kind of strange for me. I don’t think it’s bad or anything just a bit strange. Sound: 5/10 When I usually watch something I become addicted to the music in it, but that’s not the case here. Actually I haven’t even noticed anything special. Some of the episodes don’t have an opening. Characters: 5/10 The characters from the beginning were practically the same in the end. There might be one or…

Now here me out. I was scrolling through the MAL, looking at recent animes from the past 3 years. I looked at the artwork and reminded me of King Arthur (who'd guess that?)... So when I decided to watch the 2014, 45 minute special, then the series to see if I were interested. Let's say I was hooked. The story is a bit interesting with the fact of Seraphs and their contribution to the world until the end. If you're a fantasy person, love action, fluid CG, this is your show. The lore is so enriching in my opinion. A great show to watch in one sitting. Both seasons are worth your while. Some characters have great relationships, but some missed opportunities. Sound is the redeeming factor, playing small background music during drama jam packed scenes adds to the intensity and impact. An amazi…

I'd have to give credit to ufotable handling CG that well. The art was good, although I have qualms about some parts of the animation. I just didn't expect it to be this...well, plain. A lot of things weren't really properly introduced. The characters didn't really develop nicely. After watching, I can say that it's not that appealing. I watched this out of sheer boredom and I had to endure it since I tend to finish watching what I already started. This is really disappointing. I was excited when a Tales series was going to get an animation. I loved Tales games. I guess I'll stick to the games. Oh, well... :(
