Introduction

Adventuring knight Laios Touden leads a small party through a seemingly endless dungeon, a subterranean maze full of dangerous monsters and precarious traps. Through the use of advanced magic, an explorer can sometimes be resurrected, allowing them to learn from past mistakes and give traversing the dungeon another go. However, when a powerful dragon eats Falin, Laios' spellcasting sister, she sends her brother and his companions back to the beginning to save them from permanent ends. Though strapped for cash and equipment, Laios resolves to fight his way through the dungeon and rescue Falin before she can be digested by the dragon. Despite some of Laios' allies abandoning him, two remain by his side: elven mage Marcille Donato and halfling locksmith Chilchuck Tims. Due to their lack of funds, the party faces the daunting prospect of starving before being able to complete their quest. However, they find salvation in Senshi, a dwarven warrior with a penchant for cooking and safely eating defeated monsters. With Senshi's culinary expertise, Laios and his companions struggle through the dungeon while learning about gourmet dining—and each other—along the way. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Dungeon Meshi genuinely made me fall in love with anime again. I went into this expecting a fun fantasy show about adventurers cooking and eating monsters, and yeah, it definitely delivers on the food porn. The food is what caught my attention at first, but the more I watched, the more I realized it was only the surface of what makes this series so good. I ended up getting way more invested in the world and characters than I expected. Oh man, the world building. Genuinely genius stuff. The dungeon actually feels like a real place with its own ecosystem, and the way cooking ties into everything makes it even more interesting. Almost every creature has some purpose or explanation behind it, so even something as simple as cooking a monster can tell you more about the world. It's the kind of…

Fantasy anime done right!!!! After watching Frieren, I needed to taste (pun intended) more fantasy animes out there. Dungeon meshi didn't disappoint one bit. The story line progresses so well and not too fast. Every character is so unique and the meshing of different story lines is done brilliantly. There are still questions left for the viewer to ponder on. The world building has been good too. The adventure, comedy, plot and character development and the food. Every thing is done so so well. I can't wait for season 2. I might pickup the manga also. I hope there's more screen time for a lot of the other side characters and their groups. More backstories for some of the main characters also. All in all, I can't wait for what season 2 has in store. I don't regret watching this anime one…

At first, I thought it would be a fantasy comedy with a cooking gimmick as its main premise. And at least in the first part, it really was. Many episodes were so fun thanks to the creativity of turning each monster into a dish, plus the chemistry between Laios, Marcille, Chilchuck, and Senshi that brought the dungeon journey to life. What I grew to like more and more is the way the story builds the dungeon to feel like a real ecosystem. Each monster has its own behaviors and relationships to its environment. Food, resources, and survival are constantly interconnected, making those small details that looked like gags in the beginning gain deeper meaning as you keep watching. The Red Dragon arc was the point where I felt the story clearly shifted its weight. The stakes got higher, and the…

I'm gonna try not to get too personal with this review, but this anime hit very close to my heart as someone who struggles with food for a multitude of reasons. When I watch Dungeon Meshi I feel a sense of safety and acceptance that I can't fully explain. I think I finally understand when people use the term "comfort show". The animation is breathtaking in certain scenes, the characters are each lovable in their own way and I adore them all, and it manages to have elements of comedy, drama, and mystery all very well. The world building is insane, taking elements of past fantasy works and expanding on them to create an interesting and weird place. I love the idea of dungeons. I honestly cannot recommend this anime enough and I feel like no matter what you like you'll get some enjoyment o…

Quick review no spoilers: Initially, I was really sceptical going into this. It seemed like another generic dungeon type anime, and yet I am happy to be wrong in this case. It starts off slow but once it gets going, it's honestly really really fun to watch. It has solid combat, amazing humorous moments, and a really interesting plot that's slowly building up. You'd think from the title of the anime it would be based around food, which it is initially, but the way it's integrated into the story itself is really well done - like it's less of the main focus but affects both the story, characters and the plot in multiple ways. The characters are all really well developed, and it doesn't really feel like it's all about the main protagonist but the full party, which is how it should be. I'd…

What if the greatest fantasy adventure wasn't about killing monsters... but understanding them well enough to eat them? For decades, fantasy has taught us the same rule: monsters are enemies, you slay them, take their rewards, and move on. Dungeon Meshi challenges that entire idea. What if monsters weren't just threats, but living creatures with ecosystems similar to that of animals, history worth exploring, and even flavors worth discovering? That’s Dungeon Meshi, behind its ridiculous premise of cooking monsters is a surprisingly thoughtful fantasy that understands something most stories forget: a world isn't alive simply because it has monsters, It's alive because those monsters have a reason to exist. - STORY: THE WEIRDEST FANTASY THAT SOMEHOW WORKS The story of Dungeon Meshi begins…

This is the only anime that I have ever seen that genuinely, actually, truly gets better after a few episodes (five, in this case, which is not a small ask). I was telling my buddy "hey, I really don't think I want to watch any more of this show, i'm glad you like it but I just truly don't" and then boom it pivoted. Dungeon Meshi after episode 5 turns from a whimsical and pretty-but-pretty-uninteresting one trick pony about "haha the cockatrice tastes like chicken but it's really gross because it's a monster! isn't that funny?? wow marcille is such a cute little elf! haha!" into a driving rescue quest with a bunch of lovable dorks getting into and out of trouble by wit and luck and guts. Strange how the show was just plain unfunny when it was pure situational humor, only to turn into a h…

This anime is definitely a slow burner. Truth be told I really didn't enjoy this anime until episode 11-12 where the plot starts to pick up and we get to explore the characters intentions a bit more. Everything before really feels like a bunch of filler episodes slowly drip feeding you information about the world and how the dungeon mechanics work. It's also hard to even really feel invested in the characters because we don't really get to know more about them until later episodes. There's really not much going for the anime other than it being a unique take to adventuring. It doesn't have any real standout scenes but it's a cozy anime to watch and chill. All that being said I'll still be looking forward to a season 2 to see how it all plays out. So I'd only recommend this to those who…

What an amazing anime. Just a masterpiece. Everything aside, let's praise the animation. It is just soooo good and very pleasing. I kind of felt like I was watching Frieren. I really love the characters; they have such great personalities, and I fell in love with the whole party except the cat girl—she's a bit annoying (gotta praise the good voice acting). The jokes also hit every time. It kept me hooked on the series every day, and I never got bored. My favorites are adventure anime, and this delivered it really nicely with the twist of being food-related. Would highly recommend !! 10/10. Really excited for season 2

Dungeon Meshi might feel a little simple at first. Not boring at all, just simple. But as you watch more and more, it becomes much more complex than one would think. The world building is good, although I would have loved to see more. Which is basically what I would say to the whole series. It leaves you wanting more and more - in a good way - even when it's so rich. At first, I just wanted an anime with good, mouthwatering looking foods, and then I got so much more. It's funny, it's sad, it's a great watch, and I very much recommend it!!!

its been a long time i couldnt find a comedy that is grounded and sensible. a comedy that is balanced and realistic.this is the show that filled that hole.it is a seinen anime. and fulfils its duty as one. absolutely loved it for how engaging it is far better that the comedies where you cant see the story progressing. the story is one of a kind. never seen anything like this before. the artstyle absolutely fits the story. all the characters are not fully known yet and we dont know everything about every body but idea oft what their motivation is and the way they act is clear. as a low cognitive show - job done well. yes it feels realistic. people in 20s ot later , who prefer realism realistically portrayed in fantasy. will like it more. thats all from me

Delicious in Dungeon is a unique blend of high-fantasy dungeoneering and culinary exploration. While it has been widely praised for its "refreshing" take on the genre, it can be a polarizing experience for those who enter with specific expectations. At a 6.75/10, it stands as a solid "Good" series that may feel "wack" or unappealing if the character designs and slower pacing don't immediately "grab" you. ● Short Synopsis After their party is wiped out by a Red Dragon and his sister Falin is swallowed whole, the knight Laios is left penniless and starving. Determined to return to the lower levels and rescue her before she is digested, Laios and his remaining companions—the elven mage Marcille and the halfling rogue Chilchuck—decide to do the unthinkable: live off the land by hunting and…

In the vast sea of fantasy and isekai shows, it can be tough to know where to start. Delicious in Dungeon is not my first fantasy anime, but it honestly might be the best one I've seen. There is SO MUCH more to this story beneath the surface. The main cast are overall pretty funny and goofy, my favorite being the MC Laios. He is pretty quiet, but when he does talk it's usually hilariously silly. Marcille usually serves as the person to say "Oh no that's gross", but she is also quite amusing and caring. Chilchuck is the necessary straight man of the group; he is very cynical and a little obnoxious at times with his snide comments. Senshi is a straight man to a degree, but also has some moments where he tweaks out over food. Overall, there is real depth to all of these characters; they are…

Dungeon Meshi (2024) is a fantasy anime that balances comedy and seriousness surprisingly well. It is not another series built around a single eccentric gag repeated every episode until it becomes exhausting, nor is it purely episodic. Instead, the story gradually builds layers as the narrative moves forward, slowly revealing the world and the motivations of its characters. The main cast is easily the most enjoyable part of the show. Their personalities contrast sharply, and they spend a good portion of their time arguing over the most ridiculous things, which gives the series much of its charm. That said, some of the characters’ motivations occasionally feel a bit weak. The action sequences are also well executed. What makes them interesting is that victories in this world usually come…

Dungeon Meshi? More like... Dungeon Meh-shi. The premise of a ragtag party of adventurers living off dungeon monsters while attempting a rescue is entertaining on the surface. For the first few episodes, it seemed to work. As the episodes went on, it stopped working. Starting with the characters: the antics between them all never developed any of them. Sure, there may have been moments dedicated to character-building or backstory, but the characters didn't actually change throughout the story. The show gives off the illusion of change when other characters react to things with emotions (e.g., crying, laughing, various dramatics), but dynamics shortly revert back to how each behaves about things and around each other since the start of the story. Very much KonoSuba vibes where the repetit…

First thing to know you have to watch 5+ episodes to get engaged, which is a big ask I nearly dropped it early. I put this in the category of a fun watch, it could be amazing with a bit more character focus. Its you classic adventurers party exploring a dungeon, bonding, meeting friends and foe as they try to accomplish their quest. Amazing animation, great characters, great vibes/setting, decent soundtrack and plots, mediocre character development, poor pacing over the season. Its got a similar pacing beat to Frieren, its telling its story and takes it time to breathe which can be jarring but is great when your used to it. It's a pretty upbeat watch, Dungeon Meshi is a 20/40/40 split on action/deep/jokey scenes. The things i dislike are, The limited character development. You learn t…

When this show started airing, I had zero interest in it. It's looked like it was just cozy cooking and fantasy aesthetics with no substance, just another seasonal fad. So often mediocre seasonal anime go viral. I didn't watch this until long after it finished airing, because my friends turned it on while hanging out at my house. I was quickly pulled in. The show does have a sense of coziness to it. They cook at least once in every single episode if I remember correctly, and you should be sure you have a snack when you watch it because you will get hungry. But it has much more to it than I initially expected. The characters seem one-note and tropey at first glance, but their relationships with each other lead to interesting develops as the show goes on. Falin and Laios, Marcille and Falin…

What do you do when you travel to Taiwan? Eat. Japan? Eat. Your mother's house? Eat. Dungeons? Eat some more. This anime is great. What about the music? Trash. Animation? Not the best. Characters? Fine. Romance? None. Storytelling? Excellent. This is just a simple masterpiece in storytelling. Elaborate fights and stupid 1 minute long spell casting would just detract from the story. No one is overpowered and knowledge trumps magic. I just had a lot of fun learning about this dungeon. I never got bored, I never wanted to stop watching - I always wanted to see what was around the next corner. I feel slightly childish or stupid for liking this this much because it wasn't flashy, it wasn't enthralling but somehow it had me hooked. The main hook: A simple, healthy, well meaning, warm hear…

It's really hard to tell if this show can be recommended to anyone. It has a Dr. Stone kind of theme, and it's definitely good. But other than being good, there's nothing to it. It basically went stagnant after few episodes. It's all about eating, eating, and eating, and that's it. Nothing happened. The art style feels makes you feel like watching a cartoon show. It's kind of mixed in between. The characters are just weird in general kind of sense. So... If you like food or silly comedies, then this anime is definitely for you. But if you don't, other anime exist

Laois, Mercille, Chillchuck and Senshi. Great characters with an ever developing plot that evolves as the Dungeon shifts in its shape. And this story tells the tale of eat or be eaten with various ways such as the adventurers besides these four taking advantage of any opportunity within the Dungeon. Adventurers could be killed within the lower levels of the dungeon and arriving adventurers will look for money. Even with people who switch or leave their crew for decent money or salary. But the biggest thread is the cooking since it's kind of referenced in the title of this series. It also adds to the survival mentality within this story. You'd think that this is family friendly, which it is...but when you get to a certain climax of the story...you will feel the change gradually. When Lao…
