Food Wars! The Fourth Plate

Food Wars! The Fourth Plate

Introduction

At Tootsuki Culinary Academy, a heated eight-on-eight Shokugeki known as the Régiment de Cuisine rages on between Central and the rebel forces led by Souma Yukihira and Erina Nakiri. Though they won a stunning perfect victory in the first bout, the rebels face an uphill battle ahead, as they must now face off against the rest of the Elite Ten Council. With the future of Tootsuki at stake, Souma and Erina must push far beyond the limits of their abilities, using everything they learned from their mentors and ultimately drawing from their experiences cooking together as friends. I really enjoyed this season, and honestly, I think it's the best season of Food Wars!. The story feels more focused, the conflicts are more interesting, and the cooking battles are still one of the best parts of the series. I also really liked how the season develops the characters and brings several important conflicts to a satisfying point. For me, this season works really well as a conclusion. It feels like a natural place to end the story, which is why I don't think a fifth season was necessary. The fourth season left me satisfied, and knowing that there was another season afterwards honestly makes it feel like the series continued beyond the point where it should have ended. Overall, this is probably my favorite season of Food Wars!. I had a great time watching it, and I would have…

This fourth season is the Shokugeki no Souma equivalent of a tournament arc. The entire season consists of food battles between the rebels and the current elite 10 leading up to a climactic final battle that could've been the end of the series. The story in the fourth season is just about the food battles between the elite 10 and the rebels. Some of the battles feel a bit rushed but this was probably necessary because of the large amount of battles and the fact that the anime tried to also fit some character development into this season. The character development/history that is revealed adds a lot to this season and makes sure that you aren't watching simple battles but are learning more about the characters along the way. The characters are the same as in the previous season but in th…

I am sad. As nice as this anime used to be, it turned into something I can't even name properly. Characters have still their personalities, animation is always as amazing, music is... 8/10 compared to previous seasons. Regarding that, my review will contain some spoilers towards previous seasons, not this one. When I started this anime, I was similar to a lot of watchers of this anime. I had tons of fighting and shounen anime behind me but I barely touched something that special not involving this aspect at all. But friends were telling me about this anime and since I really love cooking and have strong passion for it, I gave it a chance. Hell yea, first season was really surprise and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Second one even a bit more. But then it went down. Food sometim…

So let me get this out of the way- if you enjoyed last S3 (part 2 that is), you'll probably enjoy S4 here too. If not, you're gonna be pretty miserable. I'm not gonna lie- I'm binging all the seasons so at this point my perspective may be a little skewed. I know a lot of folks don't rate this season very high (due to it's score), but here me out- I think it's still good. Not season 1 good, but it's very enjoyable. That said, there were a ton of bad as well. I'll try to keep this short and name 3 positives and 3 negatives. Positives 1. The Shokugeki's- a staple in every season, it's still damn good as always this season. I will never not laugh at the over the top reactions filled with ludacris explaination. Might be my favorite thing about this show. The details they go into are marvelous.…

Hi guys, I'm back after watching Shokugeki no souma season 4. So basically, this part show the rebels led by Yukihira Souma vs Central lead by Tsukasa Eishi. So, for me the OP for this anime is not bad. But, there also put OP for the Anime season 1. It was very happening. I was crying when Tadokoro Megumi lost this fight. They gets another back up from other 10 seats in their teams In the half of this season, Nakiri Azami become judge for the team Shokugeki. The ending is not bad and for me. It is satisfied to watch. For me, in this season , my waifu is Kobayasahi Rindo. She likes to use exotic animals in her cooking

It would be a great season if you didn't have to watch 2 seasons of the same competition and then again just continue watching it until the end of this season. So 3 seasons of same thing. You get bored at some point. It would be much better season if they made it as part 2 of season 3. I am talking about the ending. If that was the case they could have made a whole season about them now, about their classes and how they can help their junior students and teach them something. I started watching 5. season before writing this review so I decided to write it before my whole impression of this franchise is ruined. I am at the episode 5, and that's a breaking point. I had to write review for this season. It is not bad overall, but it's just a sequel of a sequel so it becomes boring in a w…

The Fourth Plate was not only the hardest challenge for our heroes, but also for the writers. It is THE gauntlet arc, comparable to the Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super, where every encounter matters, as any setbacks will have lasting effects on the overall mission. Since the title of this anime is "Food Wars", although "Fourth Plate" played out very differently from the previous seasons, due to the context, everything before has been building up to this moment: an entire season of Food Wars, back to back, to back. Did they deliver? Well, the show is still extremely hilarious, and epic in it's directorship, giving this season a 9 in the Art and Enjoyment categories. I have not read the source material myself, but I will go out on a limb and say that they truly brought to manga to…

I'm very disappointed in the direction the series went from mid-season 3 but while it still being decent, season 4 seems like a bad joke. There's no plot development at all, episodes are very monotonic and predictable. Supposed to be "plot twists" make no sense and there's no explanation to irrational decisions made by characters what only shows the lazy approach of creators responsible for season 4 and I don't really know if the outcome of this could be any worse, considering the fact that the final episode looks more like low quality fan-fiction than actual sequel of a great story from seasons 1-3. My rating is 3/10 and while the graphics are still on a high level, season 4 of SNS didn't fulfill my expectations as a succesor of the great series leaving me with disappointment and no desi…

This season continues with the team shokugeki. I find that the season still provided some character development, although that was mainly focused on Erina and Soma with some small bits on other characters during their individual battles. From reading the manga as well, this season was the last one I was looking forward to as the quality of the story severely drops off after the team shokugeki completes. In order to finish the team battle, some of the individual battles are more rushed as there are up to three simultaneously and thus there is a slight decline in the quality and anticipation that used to come with each individual shokugeki. However, this decline in quality of the battles sort of translated to more focus on the characters themselves. I personally felt like this season did…

This season picks up right after the rebel team swept the first round in the team shokugeki. Anyone missing the all out shokugeki element of the show will surely enjoy this season because its packed with them. A series of 3-on-3 battles between Central and the rebel team is the entirety of this season and plenty of the cooking explanation, moaning, over exaggeration and Ecchi that normally accompany it are back in full force. The entire supporting cast is included in their own way but their interactions is extremely limited compared to all previous seasons. While I understand why it had to be this way I do think that the lack of "instant comedy", ruffling feathers or lighthearted comedy bits between various members of the supporting cast is the reason why I enjoyed this season slightly le…

Story 9/10 The fourth season continues and then concludes the battle between Soma Erina’s rebel forces and the totalitarian Central for control over Totsuki academy we get some really exciting action with shokugeki after shokugeki with the best students competing against each other with Soma, Erina and their friends having to overcome the odds if they are to save their school. Art 8/10 This is still very good with quality artwork for the food and the characters. Sound 9/10 Sound remains a strong area of Food Wars in particular the voice acting which explains the events of the show so well. Characters 10/10 Characters have been the strength of Food Wars and in the fourth season we got to learn more about the other characters from the elite ten and they added something to the season.…

I will not lie to you, as much as I love this series, the story in this is mediocre at best. It is just the bout against the Elite 10, the ending gives it a more satisfactory feeling but other than that this season was very lacklustre in terms of the story. The art in this was phenomenal. The detail they put into the characters, the environment, but most importantly the food. When they are describing the dish in terms of ingredients and how it is cooked you can see it, and there is almost always an underlying feature that is revealed in each and every one of these dishes that makes you wish you could taste it yourself! Souma Yukihira - The son of Jouichirou Yukihira, he worked at the Yukihira Diner until it closed. Erina Nakiri - Coming from a prestigious background, she often looks d…

This series has scarred me so badly that it motivated me to write my first anime review. Anytime I see an actual good anime, I think about this one and what it could have been. I will now be using this as my measuring stick for a terrible anime. Let me start by saying that I love Shokugeki no Soma. I love cooking, I like anime, I like hentai, and I love the manga. Despite all this, JC has done their damn hardest to make this season as unwatchable and as unenjoyable as possible. This isn't an anime. There is hardly any animation. This is a slideshow with moving mouths, and motion sickness-inducing pan on every. single. frame. I know this is a cooking anime, but holy crap there does not need to be this many pans. There isn't even a pan that stops at the end to let your eyes rest for a mo…

Solid 5/10, perhaps a 4/10 but I'm going to be generous and give it a 5 as I have seen worse anime with a higher rating. So uh where to begin? Is this season bad? No. Then is this season good? No. Honestly, I'm rather stuck where to put most of this. I have thoroughly enjoyed the other seasons of this anime and was looking forward to getting more sequels but this one should not have been one. I have been extremely confused and rather irritated at how most of the shows nowadays are all 12-13 episodes, it's not that big of a deal but where it bothers me is when a show releases, let's say a second season. A 12 episode second season. You watch it and you feel like that it isn't a second season. Then 2 months later in the seasonal section you see *enter anime here* season part 2. Then you're ju…

Honestly speaking, does anyone even care about Shokugeki anymore?  The manga unceremoniously ended last year without so much as a big splash on the community, and I can only imagine what the popularity for a series that doesn't have its manga run anymore is like over in Japan.  Story: In an effort to go against Central and Azami Nakiri's ideals of 'True Gourmet", we arrive at the climactic end to the Central Arc where Soma and Erina head the rebels in a final team bout against the Elite Ten for not only the coveted seats of the Elite Ten, but also for the fate of the cooking world.  And, of course, it will all be done in an Iron Chef-style tournament arc and nothing else. For a series that prides itself on showcasing extravagant flavors and varied arcs that revolve around different aspe…

The 4th season of the show basically centered on the battle against the elite 10. I started watching from S1 again and getting to the end of S4 was very satisfying. Most plot points were sorted and the end, while a little hard to believe, was pretty positive. What I really liked was the development of the characters I'd been following from the beginning especially Tadokoro Megumi and Erina Nakiri. They both ended the story as very different people from the beginning and it was nice to see the evolution. Azami made for a great villain and his motivations were actually believable and somewhat sympathetic. The animation was top-notch as usual and the music was stellar. Due to the constant battling, it did feel a bit repetitive at times and the final fight required all my suspension of disbel…

Here's a problem with adapting a manga like Shokugeki no Soma into an anime: it drags out horrendously. Seriously! The manga goes by quickly, obviously, because it's a manga. But since this anime models its source material almost perfectly, a lot of time is wasted on things that take less time in the manga. In the manga, some food battles are 6 chapters long, but that's okay because it takes around 3-5 minutes to finish each chapter. Average that out to 4, 4 * 6 = 24. 24 minutes! That's the length of a single anime episode! However, this anime manages to stretch it out to 3 episodes at times. That's ridiculous! In my honest opinion, if they had focused more on trying to adapt the story for the purpose of an anime rather than try to copy the source material so perfectly, they could've done…

This season is supposed to be the biggest event in the entire series. All the trainings and the battles from the previous seasons were built for the regiment de cuisine and opposing the best chefs of totsuki academy. However, as an audience, this tournament is the most boring and predictable of all. It has something to do with the concept being overused in the series. The large amount of matches made me bored and wanted the arc to end. Also, most matches were rushed in order to compress battles in an episode or two. Despite these things, the development of characters were lived up to its fullest potential. All the rebels got their spotlight; whether it may be a win or a loss, it resulted to their flourishing. Opening and ending song were mediocrely done, unlike the preceding songs. Th…

I don't get why people are being annoying about this season. To me, this season was just like every other Food Wars season. I heard the ending isn't very good, but complain when the actual ending gets out, not now. If you like Food Wars for being Food Wars you get what you want. Of course, I will admit that the 11th episode of the season felt like a final episode, with the 12th being like an epilogue. I would like to see more Food Wars content, but if it is going to end in the next season maybe they'll change it up

I had to make sure I wasn't crazy. I re-watched several episodes from the first season. The introduction of the Aldini brothers in the training camp arc... The one where Soma and his dad have an early-morning cook-off in the Polar Star dormitory... The one where Megumi stands against the fearsome Legumes Magician, and saves herself from expulsion with some wholesome veggie magic of her own. This series is EXCITING. Fast-paced cuts of frenetic food-flinging; a soundtrack hot enough to simmer your soy sauce; gorgeously-drawn dishes that could hop off the screen and into your gullet; and of course, over-the-top ecchi foodgasms that make you wish you brought headphones. The stakes are raised (and steaks are braised?) as the battles rage on. And the journey is brought to life with superbly vo…
