Ghost Hunt

Ghost Hunt

Introduction

While at school, Mai Taniyama and her friends like to exchange ghost stories. Apparently, there is an abandoned school building on their campus that is the center of many ghost stories. During the story, they are interrupted by a mysterious male figure. The person turns out to be Kazuya Shibuya, a 17-year-old who is president of the Shibuya Psychic Research Company. He was called by the principal to investigate the stories surrounding the abandoned school building. The next day, on the way to school, Mai passes the school building in question. While examining a strange camera she spotted inside, she gets surprised by Kazuya's assistant. Unknowingly interfering with the investigation, Mai breaks the camera and Kazuya's assistant gets injured. Kazuya forcefully hires Mai in order to pay for the camera and replace his injured assistant. From that point on, Mai begins to learn about the paranormal world and the profession of ghost hunting. I have finished the Anime multiple times, but can't say a lot about it, since i fell asleep everytime after 2 or 3 episodes. So it's good in it's own right. It's pretty light hearted, with a lot of cliches and stereotypes. There are spooky ghosts and a lot of yelling, which is pretty demanding for a healthy brain, but no deeper meaning or anything of substance, as far as i could tell. So it's perfect to calm down, because all you'll hear is spooky ghost bla bla, but nothing is happening and you can tell yourself:" Who cares?" and continue to doze off.

I think the series was enjoyable. I do like horror shows and movies, and I like the aspects of solving cases. I loved the different methods and spirituality, along with the different cultures. I'm a sucker for that stuff. The cast was great. Different personalities and they all bring something to the table. They each have their own strengths and work together. With that said, Mai and Naru were annoying. Naru especially. Naru has no charisma at all. He's a worse version of Yuno from Black Clover. As boring as Yuno was, he was at least good looking and had chemistry with some cast members. Naru legit has none. Mai was annoying and unlikable, but she did also move the plot along. So I can at least say that for her. She was also flawed in a realistic way, but she was ultimately unpleasant. S…

So a Buddhist, Priest, Shrine Maiden, and a Scientist walk into a bar... Despite this sounding like the setup for a bad joke, Ghost Hunt was an unexpected pleasure to watch. Fans of Mysteries, Detectives, Supernatural, or Horror will almost certainly find something from this anime to make it worth the watch. Each character is an expert in their respective field, and they all happen to find themselves independently hired to solve the same case. They bicker and squabble yet there is an undeniable camaraderie they begin to develop, and the fact that all of them are sort of dysfunctional in their own way makes me all the more fond of them. They form a little cohort of ghost hunters capable of rivaling scooby doo, and their exploits bring them face to face with forces capable of unimaginable…

Ghost Hunt is a goofy horror anime that manages to be both completely trope-y and genuinely scary, perfectly balancing one aspect with the other. It's exceptionally fun, and well-worth a watch for anyone who is interested in horror. Ghost Hunt follows a high-school student (of course) who manages to get herself indebted to a ghost hunting agency led by a narcissist she can't help but find annoyingly handsome. Along with a Catholic priest, a Shinto monk, a washed-up shrine maiden, a Chinese spiritualist, and other religious practitioners, the agency takes on requests which form short arcs, generally in the 3-4 episode range. If this all sounds like the set-up for a horror parody- think an anime "Scary Movie"- I wouldn't blame your assumption. Indeed, Ghost Hunt does make fun of many well-…

Horror shows with Shoujo demographic are quite rare to come upon as it is unconventional combination. Style in which Ghost Hunt progresses as one case is usually solved in three or four episodes is more typical for animes of this type. Solving of the cases was most of the times enjoyable and satisfying, BUT shoujo elements were occasionaly interfering with the plot. To be honest I’m not a big fan of a shoujo, so obviously this plays major part of me being slightly irritated mainly by main heroine as she has a lot of typical traits of generic shoujo FL. Still if you like shoujo and horror it can be gold mine as rest of the things is done on point. In case you are not an enjoyer as me you will be still most-likely able to enjoy it, if you turn a blind eye to these "FL thirstin over MC and he…

DISKOWN

Ghost Hunt blends elements of mystery, suspense, and a touch of romance into a rather unique anime that does not live up to the expectations of the horror genre. There are many problems with the series from the lack of horror elements, the below-average animation, the lack of substantial character development beyond the main protagonist. But the anime just works. The lack of horror makes for an easy viewing experience, the grounded animation leads to a heightened sense of vulnerability among the characters in their encounters with the supernatural. And while other characters lack any kind of growth, it makes Mai’s transformation episode to episode much more noticeable. The series’ narrative is broken up into several segments usually lasting three episodes, and they are all well-written and…

Ghost Hunt Ghost Hunt Plot: It's not quite a horror anime, it's more supernatural, it's not heavy but it's enjoyable to watch, you get attached to the characters and their personalities and you understand things as the cases are unraveled, it's like a Scooby Doo but much better. The anime follows more of a suspenseful and supernatural investigative atmosphere and brings a bit of distress because it has references to things that are based on real events such as: Polstergast... The anime brings a lot of references to real things from the supernatural world, such as: Onmyouji, which is a divination system that dealt with paranormals in the Heian period (around 800 AD). The anime is good! It is as close to reality as possible, of course not 100% and they use argumentative facts to describe…

This show may not be flashy, nor looking like a gourmet anime for connoisseurs, nor does it has some bombastic title that catches attention or takes up the first lines of a grade 4 essay. What it does have is a delightful cast who mess around a series of arcs that vary from eh to actually creepy. It reaches low points yeah but when it hits high, boy does it hits high. Ghost Hunt is a fairly sizable anime about a group of medium, spiritualists, and normies who tackle various supernatural circumstances throughout its runtime. Not the most original concept but just like how Heinz revolutionized ketchup, it takes special ingredients to make it work. There are anime which, on paper, should have been the bee's knees: Grimgar, Kabineri, hell even frickin Angel Egg... Reading the synopsis and they…

I think Ghost Hunt is a great horror anime and one that really cares about accurate portrayal. In many supernatural anime I often find that the mechanics of the supernatural world are often made up or warped to fit the plot of the anime, however, in Ghost Hunt you can clearly tell that a lot of research was done to accurately portrayal the spiritual and psychic world by explaining different scientific experiments done to try and prove the existence of ghosts, they base things on theories widely used in the paranormal community, and eve the equipment used in the show are things that a real paranormal researcher might use. A lot of thought was put into the story so that it would be an accurate portrayal of what a paranormal researcher would do. The first few episodes can be a bit bland at ti…

A honest to god ghost hunt story. Ghostbusters meet Scooby Doo meet X-files. Ghost busting with the power of science, scepticism, mysticism, and spirituality. It's serious, it's mysterious, it's tragic, with a touch of light comedy to liven the mood. Animation / Art / General Visuals - 8/10 ----------------------------------------------- I quite like the way it looks. It doesn't shine in animation quality, but the art style is nice and scenery well drawn. The atmosphere is on point and comedic character expressions funny. Sound / Music / Voice Acting - 8/10 ------------------------------------------ Sounds and music is good. The show has a very old-school ghost story intro track, takes you back to Twilight Zone days. Not something you'd want to listen for fun, but definitely sets the…

Overview: "Ghost Hunt" is pretty much exactly what it sounds like- an anime about a group of people who hunt ghosts and exorcise spirits encountered in various locations. However, anyone going in expecting something along the lines of "Ghostbusters" will be in for either a surprise or a disappointment, as rather than a light-hearted comedy about catching ghosts with advanced tech, it's instead more of a mystery/horror series about getting rid of spirits using exorcisms and ancient spells. But is it good? The answer is "Yes", even if there is ultimately nothing remarkable about it. Story (6.5/10): "Ghost Hunt" follows the viewpoint of Mai Taniyama, a 16-year-old schoolgirl who enjoys telling ghost stories with her friends. One night, she ends up encountering a mysterious teenager named Kaz…

The plot is very interesting and has the typical early 2000s anime feel (it was made in 2006 Afterall). Ghost Hunt is majority mystery and supernatural with a sliver of horror and romance. It also includes a lot of information on religion and history which personally really interested me. I like the way the anime is organized in "files", it makes it very organized and easy to understand the plotline. Its also very comedic at times and overall has a nice nostalgia feel. The characters are all likeable and it feels really rewatchable. Onto some of my critiques, it feels a bit unfinished and the way the anime ended feels like its missing something (I deducted 1 point for this). I hope to find the missing parts when I read the source material. Also, some parts of the characters and plots aren…

Watch the English dub for hilariously bad Australian accent. This anime is a bit silly at times but definitely has scary moments- marathoning the whole thing over a day/weekend and catching the 'Bloodstained Labyrinth' arc late at night in the dark after you've been primed to be spooked is great. There's some surprisingly emotional plot lines in the 'Silent Christmas' and 'Prohibited Game' arcs, they can be pretty touching if you relate to the subjects. I like that it also features non-paranormal explanations at times along with people faking supernatural abilities- helps it feel more grounded. If you want a spooky paranormal ghostbusting show with a touch of romance, this is for you.

I enjoyed Ghost Hunt WAY more than I thought I would. Originally discovered after someone recommended 'similar anime' to Beautiful Bones (Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru) on MAL, I can see the similarities of mystery/horror genre. Sakurako is more psychological/crime drama, while Ghost Hunt is for people who enjoy supernatural/occult/Japanese folklore themes. Entertaining as it was (10/10, seriously), I hesitate to give it more than an 8/10 overall, because of a couple points: - The story pacing is too slow, especially in the first case. They drag out a mystery 'case' that could have been solved in 1 - 2 episodes. - They introduced too many characters at once. Don't get me wrong. I LOVED the supporting characters, and each had decent character depth (not to mention…

Highly Recommended. If you love Horror and Mystery then this anime is a must watch. It is such a fun and interesting ride. All the characters and cases are amazing. Once the 8 cases are done better to read the manga to finish the first book on which this anime is based on. Story: All 8 cases are so well done. Very interesting that make us want to binge watch the 3 to 4 eps the case is covered in. Everything is explained well as well. Very informative in a non boring way. It has perfect blend of Investigation and Horror story elements. Art: Art is good. It has that old feel to it but that art and color scheme is actually what makes it a good palate for story telling. Sound: There is not much to say about the sound. It's fine. Characters: Now this is the most interesting part of this A…

There is two ways to look at Ghost Hunt, you can watch it and judge it by what it is, a rather average comedy anime about ghost hunting with little to no suspense, or watch the whole thing expecting to find "horror" just to get dissapointed by finding out scooby doo features more horror than this. This anime also features the most boring opening I have seen in my life, characters that lack any sort of charm, development or emotion, predictable cases, and best of all, it it ends with a cliffhanger. If you were looking for comedy and some suspense, feel free to watch it, if you expected horror, save yourself the time and go watch something else.

I do not understand why I had this, I just watched it because I didn't know what else to watch and it was short. It was a pleasant surprise from past me and I'm grateful. It's an anime that greatly references various horror elements, such as ghosts, but uses real world terms and religious practices throughout the show with fairly great accuracy. If you're one of those people that loves the subject, this is an excellent choice for an anime. One of its greatest drawbacks, however, is it's very episodic meaning you're not getting an epic of a story-line, just mild character development with some "drama" here in there that didn't have to happen but you forgive it since the two main characters have a weird chemistry. Because the drama didn't have to happen but does (poor communication that d…

Quick take: If you like "Ghost Adventures," "Ghost Hunters" or any similar show on cable TV, you'll find "Ghost Hunt" very enjoyable. Even if you don't watch paranormal shows like that, you'll likely find this anime to be good. Characters are what I believe to be it's shining achievement. "Ghost Hunt" straddles the space between episodic and serialized. It doesn't quite fit into either category. Each part of the series is split into a "file," or case and can span anywhere from two to four episodes. I actually really enjoyed this aspect. For the most part, each of the cases feel different and a few of them feel truthfully tragic. You won't find much of an arc over the entirety of the series with the exception of Mai's feelings, but even then it seems that the writers realized it was neglec…

This is my first review and I try keeping it short. I think anime has great story, art and sounds. I liked most of the story with some minor details. But then you reach half of the series main character girl become so annoying that I just can't stand. At first it's funny and you just keep up. but in second half of episodes it makes you sick how pathetic and dumb character can be. It's like I say don't go in front of the train and after couple of seconds you just waiting for the train. My verdict: anime with potential but was ruined by shitty character design. Score: 5.0
