Introduction

Kazuya Kujou is a foreign student at Saint Marguerite Academy, a luxurious boarding school in the Southern European country of Sauville. Originally from Japan, his jet-black hair and dark brown eyes cause his peers to shun him and give him the nickname "Black Reaper," based on a popular urban legend about the traveler who brings death in the spring. On a day like any other, Kujou visits the school's extravagant library in search of ghost stories. However, his focus soon changes as he becomes curious about a golden strand of hair on the stairs. The steps lead him to a large garden and a beautiful doll-like girl known as Victorique de Blois, whose complex and imaginative foresight allows her to predict their futures, now intertwined. With more mysteries quickly developing—including the appearance of a ghost ship and an alchemist with the power of transmutation—Victorique and Kujou, bound by fate and their unique skills, have no choice but to rely on each other. I actually really liked this anime, it is not deep or anything like that but I found it great to pass time without getting involved in a deep or difficult story where you have to stay extremely focused the whole time. The characters are simple, pretty much stereotypical and I would like to add a critique to the character of the teacher because I found some scenes a bit cringe and out of touch. The first 10/13 episodes go really fast, the mistery gets solved in just an episode which can be somewhat confusing and a bit boring. However I wouldn't define gosick a mistery anime, the story behind the characters is much more interesting and I personally loved the aesthetic so much. It could have definitely been better, however I rated it 10 stars because it's valid, the last 11 episode had…

This is one of my favorite "niche" anime to recommend to people because I absolutely loved it. There was absolutely nothing to be desired after finishing this anime for me. Not many people in the anime community have heard of or watched this anime, which is unsurprising. This show has an incredibly distinct atmosphere. The European-inspired setting, old libraries, churches, elaborate clothing, fog, castles, and Victorique's gothic appearance make the anime feel almost like a fairy tale that happens to contain murder mysteries. The world feels beautiful and unsettling at the same time, which is probably one of the biggest reasons it sticks with people. To discuss our FMC, Victorique, I adore everything about her. I know a lot of people DON'T like her because they see her for what she is o…

It is a must watch in many terms. I watched it in 2017 and 2026 and it still made me cry. The characters have good background and historically it takes you to story really well. I finished it days. The story flows really well. It is a detective anime but romance part is also heavy. There are not many romantic scenes mostly even the male main character refers to Victoria as her friend. The story focuses on their bonding. The story is unique and are style is good compared to the published time. If you like deep stories you will like this series as well.

It's good, very good. I have watched this a long time ago, but every now and then I remember it and go looking for similar anime. I don't think I ever found one. This is just a very solid mystery anime, nothing too crazy or dramatic happens, but the mysteries were intriguing and obviously the interactions and budding romance between the two main leads is what makes this stand out. Highly recommend ... idk to whom exactly, just in general to everyone. There are really few quality anime out there, and this is without a doubt one of them. If only the FMC wasnt a loli ... could have been a 9/10. Oh well.

Reviewing this after a re-watch. I enjoyed the individual stories that are presented in an episodic style as well as the overall period driven story. Each mystery was fun to see through and discover how it happened. This is one of the better mystery anime I've watched. Story: I enjoyed the overall story and each of the arcs. The sense of mystery was conveyed well and the main plot moved fast enough to keep me engaged until the end. I felt like the conclusion was lackluster in the emotional department as well as a bit disorienting with some of the scenes having inaccurate allusions. (where's my legs?) Characters: The 2 MCs don't show as much character growth as I would've liked and I felt that at times they regressed in their behavior when it should've been steadily showing growth. This l…

Overview: Ever since Arthur Conan Doyle wrote the "Sherlock Holmes" novels way back in the late 1800s, mystery stories involving a private detective who solves crimes independent of the police are a brand of tale that is greatly enjoyed by an innumerable number of people, myself most definitely included. "Gosick" is an anime that was very clearly inspired by these kinds of stories, while at the same managing to carry its own original flavour. While it certainly has its flaws, the end result is an intriguing and entertaining, yet surprisingly dark series that any fan of the mystery genre would do well to check out. Story (8/10): Set in the fictional European country of Saubure during the mid-1920s, "Gosick" primarily follows the viewpoint of Kazuya Kujo, a Japanese teenager from an Imperia…

I had pretty high expectations because of the good rating, but honestly most of the anime felt boring to me. A lot of the mysteries weren’t that interesting, and sometimes the dialogue made me think, “what are these characters even talking about?” Victorique also tends to speak in a very poetic and roundabout way, which made things feel unnecessarily complicated. The chemistry between Victorique and Kujo didn’t really work for me either. Their relationship felt more like master and servant rather than natural partners. The story also uses a lot of ambiguous terms like “storm” or “gray wolves,” which sometimes just made things even more confusing. I will admit the ending was pretty good and emotional. Unfortunately, for me a good ending wasn’t enough to make up for how boring most of the…

At first i tought this anime was gonna be buns because just by watching the first episode i immediately thought that it wasnt for me. However, as i kept watching it i became more immersed and interested in the characters, the world, and the mysteries behind it all. I loved the mystery of this anime and the way that the plot was told and thickened as the show progressed and with every mystery Kujo and Victorique solved was nice storytelling. There were times where i kept wanting to watch the next episode with how interesting the mystery was. The romance was also very cute and made me root for the characters to be together. I liked how the characters were not annoying and was not very tropey like other anime characters. However, i hate that some characters' backstories were explored and some…

Honestly, I was disappointed after hearing all the hype about Gosick. I think it was probably a very unique product of its time. I probably did not receive it well because I am neither a teenager which was the main demographic which Gosick received praise from around 2015). Now, in the year 2025, I find that the anime has poor pacing and leans too much into the tsundere/ gullible MC trope. That said, it has good parts too. The cast is likeable enough, the mystery element can be fun if you're into that, and the character development ultimately makes it worth the watch. That said, the main plot can mostly be summed up by only watching 5 out of the 25 episodes- and you wouldn't miss much else. The effort towards world building was made, but ultimately does not pay off due to huge gaps and fi…

When I found Gosick and read the synopsis I was expecting some slightly dark, lightly fantastical mystery show themed around the early years of the industrial revolution with a duo going around focused on solving random cases creating terror in the town. Not only was I surprised by what it actually was, but it delivered above expectations on the relationships between different scenarios and the culmination of each case leading into a metanarrative that doesn't reveal its true nature until it has you grasped around its finger. The show takes the audience on a rollercoaster, going up and down on the excitement and emotional pulls it throws your way, and by the end it leaves off with both an incredibly climatic finish and conclusive ending that successfully brings the ride to satisfying clos…

You really threw me in for a rollercoaster, huh? To summarise, Gosick is a show set in 1920s Europe where your typical self-insert anime MC from Japan, Kazuya Kujou, is sent to the fictional country of Saubreme to study at St. Marguerite Academy. There, he meets the incredibly intelligent Grey Wolf named Victorique de Blois. Together, the two solve mysteries to feed this little gremlin’s boredom and her desire to prove to the world that she’s the most intelligent of them all. I initially started this anime with low expectations after a friend recommended it. After watching the first few episodes, my assessment was that while the show definitely has substance—intriguing mysteries and deep lore—the slow pacing and generally dreary tone really wore me down. I actually dropped it around epis…

The story starts off very interesting with the two main characters interacting. The animation style and quality were ahead of its time, and it felt like I was watching a very recent anime rather than a nearly 15-year old anime. There is a mix of action and interesting sleuthing in perhaps the first twelve episodes. And there is some relationship development between the two main characters. The character types were good enough for me at first. The main character Victorique is typical tsundere, almost to the point of being annoying, but I suppose I get easily annoyed by the tsundere character type now. At any rate, I didn't let it bother me. What did bother me more was that the second character, a boy, was pretty helpless. He somewhat dense and meek, and it pretty much never changes through…

Gosick starts off with a mix of high and lower stakes mystery cases that aren't deeply involved with the two main characters in the long run, so there's not much motivation to keep coming back for more. But once the two build a stronger bond, and mysteries turn into conspiracies that can put them both in danger, that's when the anime really hits its stride. And on the point of romance, it very much delivers without feeling tongue in cheek or cliché. The anime does a good job of building them up, making you care about them both as individual characters and when they're together. The setting is also really good. It is set mostly in 1924, shortly after the first world war. Carriages were still in use, telephones weren't everywhere. Delivering messages or knowing another person's location was…

If I had to be honest, there's always something good about this anime that I did not understand. Maybe the visuals? The plot? The drama? The romance? I don't truly understand myself. Throughout the episodes, my emotions about this anime are like a roller coaster. Sometimes, they go down, sometimes they go up, and sometimes, they seem a little bit exaggerated. I don't really like a romance type where the characters are "medium-sized" and the other is "small-sized". But I don't really complain about it at all here. Maybe the good thing that I see is not only about the romance. Again, even though I'm here for the romance, the romance itself isn't really the best point, though they are not that bad. Maybe it's a little bit disappointing, but when I watched this, I completely forgot that I wa…

Imagine Sherlock Holmes in the form of a beautiful little girl with blonde hair and clothes that have a lot of lace... That's gosick tells the story of a Japanese boy Kazuya kujou studying in the eastern european country, saubure, with black hair and brown eyes making him have the nickname "black reaper" He was shunned by his schoolmates because rumors spread that all those close to or related to the black reaper would experience bad luck even to death, referring to his name "black reaper", despite many rumors like that he actually has a kind, hardworking, unyielding nature, somewhat opposite to the attitude of the heroine in this series. On the other hand a little girl with a doll-like stature, eyeballs that have a twinkling light, pure white skin, rosy cheeks, her small body and legs…

[Rambling alert, more of a comedic thoughts and opinion than a typical/actual review] I... I still can't fully put into spoken words how much of a visceral reaction this anime caused within me (maybe someday I'll write an actual review for this but I just had to stamp this while it was fresh in my mind). I don't usually rate stories on "Good" or "Bad" like an average (normal) person would, if it manages to hold my attention and maybe even some anticipation, then I'll usually classify it as Good at the end of the day. This anime managed that (so for me by default it's not bad), and by normal standards it's not Terrible, but GOD I ALMOST want to hate it so much. I just can't say I fully do but AAAHHH, genuinely a story has never made me feel this way and that in itself keeps me fascinated b…

Imagine Sherlock Holmes. Now picture him as a little blond girl in a black dress...Thats Gosick. Victorique the "Golden Fairy of the Library" spends her school days in the library tower. Kujou, aka the Black Reaper, is a young boy who finds death everywhere he goes. He has transferred to Saint Marguerite Academy boarding school. He encounters Victorique in the tower and eventually they become close friends. But its a very abusive relationship. Kujou is essentially Victorique's b*tch. He's a lapdog who does whatever she tells him to. And will always bring her sweets whenever he displeases her. He really cares about her (in a very p*ssy-whipped kinda way) I dont know why he's so obsessed with this blonde loli tsundere who is always wearing a black dress and looks like a doll...wait i jus…

Gosick is must watch for all mystery and detective genre lovers. Although Gosick isn’t outright detective story it has a lot of similarities which I appreciated as you average detective stories enjoyer. It’s very rare to find anime which can unite so many aspects and do it in good quality. Do you enjoy romance, mystery, historical setting or maybe comedy? There is plenty of all these elements. Often detective stories rely on one or two main narratives which are repeated on and on for even more like one hundred episodes and you can get bored over time. Thing is Gosick is not your typical detective and this mystery genre helps it a lot. Every "case" is somehow different and you almost expect some supernatural stuff to happen although culmination is always rational. Thanks to this it keeps…

Talking about Gosick and badmouthing the work is unfeasible. Even if you don't like how actions are taken on comic reliefs (which are the bane of the anime, along with the protagonist), the anime is very good. The anime is around Victorique, who is a student at a school in a fictional country called Saubure. Her level of intelligence is supernatural (emphasis on supernatural), as the anime plays with this, showing that there is no supernatural in what she does or in what others do (just like the other gray wolves did). The unfolding of how discoveries are made are SUPERNATURAL in our eyes, but according to the information that is obtained, it would actually be possible to solve crimes, but… within a small window? Is this believable? Now teenagers in real situations ALL THE TIME, one wonder…
