I feel like the "slice of life" tag doesn't really apply to this story except for very few of the episodes, this is entirely a character driven coming of age drama and an excellent one at that.
The characters are great, flawed in believable and mostly endearing ways. The only exception in my opinion is Minko - at some point you'll stop wishing for someone to punch her in the face, but she's a pita about 75% of the time all the way to the end of the show. It would have been great if they gave her *any* backstory at all, even a "she's been like this since she was a toddler" would have made it more palatable, but nope... She's just a raging b for no good reason and everyone just has to deal with it. Kinda surprising considering every single other major character has some backstory to them, b…

Overall I enjoy this show most for its depiction if Kissui Inn's ongoings. The romance and the drama that rises from it can be hit or miss (miss for me), but Kissui Inn's own drama is fascinating, from my layman's perspective.
"Story", what the show is about: 8/10
Solid depiction of characters growing and finding their footing in Kissui Inn. Genre is a mishmash of slice-of-life, drama, romance (bad at it tho) and comedy. It touches points like parent-child relations and how weird and distant they can be, fulfillment by working, inn management troubles, etc. Some story beats might annoy/disturb (dull romance, writer-freeloader's sexual harassment).
Characters: 7/10
Ohana is a bright-eyed outsider who faces frustrating beginnings yet steps up to the task. Meddlesome, like most protags do,…

I watched Hanasaku Iroha, including the Home Sweet Home movie. Here are my thoughts:
I really wanted to like this anime; at first glance, it seemed like something I would really enjoy. Unfortunately however, my viewing experience was mixed at best and certainly didn't meet my optimistic expectations.
During approximately the first third of the show, my optimism persisted but began to wane, and in retrospect the earlier episodes were the best part of the series. As the story and characters continued to develop, my opinion of it soured, and by the time I was halfway through the TV series I knew I was watching something mediocre.
At its core, Hanasaku Iroha is a character-driven drama much moreso than a typical slice-of-life show. Generally speaking, I like character-driven dramas. Unfortu…

Growing up can be tough, and nothing showcases this more than Hanasaku Iroha, where we get to watch our main character Ohana learn the real meaning of "hard work".
I'll get straight to the point - this one's as "slice of life" as it can be. However, if you're tired of the same old high school tropes, definitely give this one a try. But what truly stands out in here is the art. They really didn't pull any punches. This was the first anime that actually made me go "wow" when I saw it. And that was right from the very first episode!
Now, if you're looking for romance, comedy, and action of any sort, you won't find it here. But if you're looking to see things from the perspective of a young girl trying to figure out her place in the world, then buckle up - you're in for a fun ride!
Would al…

Hanasaku iroha is a slice of life, comedy, drama, but most importantly a coming to age show. You watch as the characters grow, build relationship with each other, laugh, cry, overcome obstacle and discover their dream.
I had so much fun with this show, everyday after finishing my work I can always lay back, relax and enjoy. There's always this homely, warm fuzzy feeling I get whenever watching it. I love the characters, especially Ohana. You watch as she grows from a clueless teenager, having no clue on what to pursue in life to discovering a place she can call home, a place where she belongs.
I even got emotional in the end when okami was walking around Kissui Inn, it felt nostalgic and sentimental. It felt like I was there as well, going through all the struggles they did, experienci…

The slice of life genre is a personal favorite of mine. Unlike the thrilling action of shounen or the heart-wrenching suspense of a romantic drama, a slice of life is one that can be enjoyed at a more relaxed pace.
HERES THE ISSUE THOUGH! Most of the SOL (slice of life) shows I've been watching have the same issue.
1. It's more of a drama, comedy, romance, rather than an actual show about... ya'know, slice of life.
2. It's boring. The show has no story and little to no character growth. These shows really lean on the charm of their characters and comedy to keep themselves somewhat interesting.
3. The only real good ones I've seen are feel goods. Extremely wholesome. Its not a problem usually (in fact this anime suffers from the same thing but to a smaller degree), but its too sweet fo…

Hanasaku Iroha tells a story of Ohana Matsumae a middle school girl who finds herself in a situation where she doesn't get any excitement in life anymore, basically she finds life as a repeatable cycle where all she does is sleep, cook, and go to school. A typical life of a student that's why when she find out from her mom that they will be moving away due to some circumstances, she finds it interesting as she thinks that the drama life she's been seeking for a long time will be possible to attained now, however due to some other circumstances her mother send her to her grandma and this how the story of her drama life starts, a drama that she didn't expect in the first place.
I find this Anime really interesting and relatable as it tells a story of how us at some point in our life we wish…

actually I have long finished the tv series and the movie "hanasaku iroha".
but I haven't left a small note about my impressions after watching this series, at least I used to write a short review for each title that I think is special, and including hanasaku iroha. I like the animation made by P.A. Works (not only hanasaku iroha).
I would not hesitate to say the animation is beautiful, I do not put much hope for the original type of story, but I am quite comfortable in following the story line presented. Slice of Life is very felt, the drama is quite good, for comedy I don't really see it. I like opening and ending song, but in my opinion, the introduction of supporting characters is rather slow. it's good to focus on Ohana, but the other characters seem to be too cornered in their rol…

Story 9
Story telling you about when you don't know what to do with your life, and then you move to another place, you find yourself the new place, new adventure, new job, new school, new people and the new challenges, and now you have to face it, no matter how tough it is, this anime is really lovely and learning how we work, our personalities, our friendship and our relationship to others

This is one of those wonderful anime that sets a reasonable goal for itself, and executes it splendidly. Over the course of 26 episodes, nothing too unusuals; It’s just a 16 year old girl who moves in with her grandma, who happens to be the manager of an inn. But in those episodes it really offers a lens into the lives of Ohana and the characters around her.
One of the strongest points of this show is its characters, and the characterization of those characters. At first, everyone seems to be either an a-hole or callous to Ohana’s problems. Until the end of the third episode the only character I could sympathize with was Ohana. However, as time goes on, each of the characters are explored quite thoroughly, with at least a whole episode dedicated to each major character, and the inn becaus…

Set up to be a hard contender for my favorite slice of life anime of all time, Hanasaku Iroha is a surprisingly in depth story with a very basic grand scheme.
With little description, you could probably just call it the story of a girl in a kinda crappy situation that learns to make the best of it and grow up a little in doing so. However, there's a lot in play throughout the series that is hard to describe without spoiling the show and much of what made this a work of art. To spoil it would spoil it, but not saying why it's so well put together...well, I just have to hope people are willing and able to find out.
Story: 9/10
The primary story as we are given is basically a teenage girl thrust into a cold relationship with her grandmother, living/forced to work at the grandmother's Inn, wh…

I'm very late, but it's never late to watch an anime. Hanasaku Iroha, a "Slice Of Life" anime based on the main character Hanasaku Iroha did a tremendous job and made a hole in my heart.
Story : 8/10
The story is great for a slice of life anime, the execution and focus of the main character's development attracts a watcher as I to continue watching to see what happens next. There's moments when its sad, and there's times when its comedic and chilling. However, some plots within the story are rather cranky. And the romance development within this series in chapters is to some degree sluggish. Still, PA did a great job on the story and managed to make it somewhat entertaining.
Art : 9/10
The art is brilliant, it reminded me slightly of Violet Evergarden but lower-budgeted. It gives you…

Great artwork, beautiful sceneries of a traditional japanese hotel, intense contrasting personalities which come in contradiction with each other.
At first, my interest was quite intrigued and had high expectations.
I didn't like Ohana as a person because she was making decisions with no specific reason in mind- just because. I could see her persistence and stubborness but no passion, because she started something that wasn't her dream but she made into that on the way because life brought it like this.
Somewhere in the middle, the series losts it's path, and personally, I couldn't understand for which reason there were 26 episodes, while the plot could be developed in just 12.
Not because it wasn't good - on the contrary. Because the characters were so well made, that is was clear what…

I started watching Hanasaku Iroha immediately after finishing (and loving) Shirobako. I wasn't expecting to love this show on the same level, but I wanted another slice of life type anime. What started off promising turned into such a drag to get through. The first half of the show I enjoyed - I didn't mind the premise and I liked the characters enough to get on board, but around the halfway point the quality of the story plummeted.
[Slight spoilers in this review] I think the problem I had with it was the cast of young characters, who I think I am just too old to appreciate because of their ridiculous high school problems that I don't relate to/care about in any way. The omurice episode had my rolling my eyes so far into my skull for example. I felt like their characters had potential i…

Having watched a variety of slice of life shows I went into this anime with some decent expectations, and despite the high average score on MAL I was disappointed and confused at the end. The first episode starts in a formulaic drama style: spunky girl gets put into an unexpected situation with a funny cast of characters. Add in a uptight and strict (but badass) grandma, and you are looking at a decent slice of life. After two straight days of binging this show, I'm more confused at how it got such a high score when the story of this anime is jumbled, the characters go from lovable to hate-able, and most plots introduced relatively unresolved... As a warning, I did not previously read the manga and this is just the random opinion of someone on the internet, but here is some reasons I thoug…

I'm not very good at writing reviews, but here I go. I started this anime, while on a "maid"-run and it's been one of the high points. It's not without its flaws as well.
Story/Characters-8/10
The story itself seems simple enough at first, but as we learn more about characters we really get to know the real story of this anime, which are the characters. The characters are very diverse but are all linked to the inn in which they work and love. There is a character for everyone (mostly :P)!
A lot of people complain about the romance and fanservice parts, but I feel like it was moderate and well put in the plot and episodes.
Art-8/10
The art is very good as well, with nice details in some places, but I've noticed that some scenes are repeated multiple times in the show, but it's almost not…

Hanasaku Iroha is a dramatic and engaging story about a girl learning some of life's hardest lessons by working at her strict grandmother's traditional inn in rural Japan. The main character and her growth throughout the first half of the series is absolutely masterpiece level material. Ohana is pretty much done growing by the second half and the show shifts focus to other characters and new situations that didn't connect with me on as deep a level. Nonetheless, the ending is very well done, making all of that seemingly superfluous stuff in the second half worthwhile, and every episode contributes to a better understanding of the characters and to the story as a whole.
The music was great, and fans of Non Non Biyori will recognize the artist immediately. I usually ignore lyrics but the fi…

CM PUNK CM PUNK !!!!..
Just kidding, I like this series, really, the concept is pretty nice although It has some flaws but still the execution is great the heart of the story which is "Kissuiso" is there
(I'm not a good reviewer but I'll try)
Story
Though the story itself is not original, I love how they portrayed it, true some scenes weren't really that realistic but what I like is how they focused it on the heart of the series which is again Kissuiso, on top of that It's also not rushed however It sort of went downhill during 16 as they tried to change the goal of the story.
Another Bad thing in the series is the romance, I mean basically It's just there, starring like Roman Reigns, ;-; Anyways I can't really say anything to it aside from It's pretty pointless and that if you take t…
