Shirobako

Introduction

It all started in Kaminoyama High School, when five best friends—Aoi Miyamori, Ema Yasuhara, Midori Imai, Shizuka Sakaki, and Misa Toudou—discovered their collective love for all things anime and formed the animation club. After making their first amateur anime together and showcasing it at the culture festival, the group vows to pursue careers in the industry, aiming to one day work together and create their own mainstream show. Two and a half years later, Aoi and Ema have managed to land jobs at the illustrious Musashino Animation production company. The others, however, are finding it difficult to get their dream jobs. Shizuka is feeling the weight of not being recognized as a capable voice actor, Misa has a secure yet unsatisfying career designing 3D models for a car company, and Midori is a university student intent on pursuing her dream as a story writer. These five girls will learn that the path to success is one with many diversions, but dreams can still be achieved through perseverance and a touch of eccentric creativity. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

"Animators are people too. We want to be told, 'Only you can do this.' " - A quote from Shirobako, episode 12 Every season, around 50-60 anime shows are produced. So far, there are over 14,000 anime on the MAL database. Shirobako is an anime, among those 14,000, still striving for recognition even after 10 years since airing. The fact that its an anime about how anime is made, is ironic when it comes to it having so little recognition among the general anime audience. The story follows Miyamori Aoi, who is a Production Assistant in the fictional anime studio of Musashino Animation (Musani for short). Like how the heart's job is to keep the blood flowing to every part of the body, her job is to keep the communication between the different departments' staff going as smoothly as possible,…

Ok honestly I'm truly struggled to have this anime a confirm score to be honest. Haha as u can see I even said honest twice on my first sentence 😅😅. It's like in between 6 or 7, I wanted to rated it 7 at the end of the episode but I couldn't because throughout the whole 24 episodes I struggle to keep like it, in one episode it was so good then the next 3 episodes it's back to mediocre. I agree on someone reviews he/she couldn't get why this anime has been rated as masterpiece, Is pay review become a trend now? I got it this is no shounen/ canon anime. In fact I like anime like this too but is like it doesn't have a moment that capture me or make me remember, before I started this I just finish Sakamichi no Apollo and oh yeah it's quite an old piece but at the very first episode that an…

This anime hit way too close to real life for my taste. Have a dream? Work tirelessly for it, get so close you can almost touch it, and then… fall just short? Yeah, that’s reality for a lot of people. Instead of achieving that dream, you settle—maybe as a project manager, maybe taking whatever roles you can get while serving coffee to make ends meet. It’s frustrating because that struggle is real, and while the anime does a fantastic job portraying it, that’s exactly why I didn’t enjoy watching it. Don’t get me wrong—the story is well-written, the characters are compelling, and the art is beautiful. Everything about it is objectively great. But when I come home stressed from work, the last thing I want is to watch an anime that mirrors the very struggles I’m trying to escape. If you’re lo…

Shirobako is a great anime, every second within each episode is worth watching. Though, I would definitely would emphasize to have PATIENCE first as the plot has as low build up, but that in it self is why it's worth watching for. Shirobako Anime offers one of the unique and interesting plot in the Anime history, which is why the show is great in it's own way. The Series slaps you about life that it is not a fairy tale, once you graduate from school you are faced with a harsh reality that finding a job is hard. Some may be lucky, but often times some are not. That being said, the Series offers you a unique experience by showing you through the amazing cast of characters of their different circumstances in life. What's amazing is that you as a viewer you could possibly see your life situat…

[TL;DR: Excellent insight into the world of anime creation. Great art, animation, industry insight and some drama to spice things up. If you ever wanted to know how the proverbial sausage is made, Shirobako is highly recommended!] What Bakuman is to manga and New Game! is to video games, Shirobako is to anime. It's the quintessential industry piece, and eerie look behind the curtain to see how what you are watching is actually made. The anime mainly follows Aoi Miyamori, a fresh face at Musashino Animation's production staff and her dream to fulfill the promise she made with her four high-school friends to produce their very own anime one day. As we know, anime - while being reasonably popular in it's own right - is generally not the main medium for stories, rather than a vehicle to popu…

This anime is great. I highly recommend it. CHARACTERS = 9/10 While the first episode may lead you to believe that there are five MC's in this series, there really is just one, Miyamori Aoi, but she is supported by a plethora of characters who are so different in their personalities/roles/occupations that they bring a lot of variety to the series and show how much of a team effort it is to create anime. People also leave or newly enter the workplace at Musashino Animation. Also, we don't say goodbye to those four other possible MC's, Miyamori's friends, immediately; there are episodes throughout the entire series where we get to learn about their struggles in each of their lines of work, and their stories smoothly weave in and out of the main narrative. However, because the story mainly…

Shirobako is not just an insightful look behind the scenes of an anime studio, it is also a great reflection on the complexities of adult worklife. Imagine an anime about working adults dealing with adult problems - yeah I know, holy shit. No high school. No teenage angst. No moebait too, unlike New Game. Sure, some of the character designs are moe-ish, but nothing too over-the-top. Characters mostly look and dress like people you'd actually find in an anime studio. The focus is purely on the two things that I mentioned previously: the anime-making process, and the worklife of people who make anime. I'll talk about each separately. The anime-making part is good in that it gives you a very detailed look at what the production process looks like - along with anything that might go wrong alo…

Shirobako, a show that revolves around the anime industry itself. Pioneering in its themes. To say that this show is entertaining is an understatement. Entertaining is not its only function, like the vast majority of today's audiovisual media. Shirobako is about something else... informing. I'm a filmmaker, and watching Shirobako brought me to tears more than once. A huge weight of nostalgia. It personally resonated with me. And it will with all people who work in industries that revolve around making "art". During the episodes, we see our interesting protagonists go through a series of life, work and identity crises. Universal crises, typical of human beings. What is my goal in life? What is my final purpose? How far do I have to go to fulfill my dreams? The hard work and disappointm…

I'm 5 years late to review this Masterpiece and I'm pretty sure there's a lot of great reviews out there, but I want to add my personal touch/review for this anime cause I'm gonna regret not to share how wonderful this anime was. Story: The story started by introducing the 5 main heroine of the anime. A group of friends who promise to each other of making their own anime in the future, they thought that everything will go smoothly as what they planned but reality is not kind enough to make this happened, they sooner realized how life can be so cruel. As the story progress, our 5 main heroines started to question themselves of what do they really want to do in they're life, and whether they will be able to accomplish their goals/dreams in life or not. Art: The art is just so perfect. Ever…

Out of 100 Nobles watching… 98 were impressed! 2 have gripes, but no one likes them anyway Shirobako aired in 2014 through 2015 in a single 24-episode course run during a time I wasn’t watching anime or able to do much of anything. P.A. Works only other show I’ve watched was the first season of Uma Musume which I admittedly liked a lot so I really went in mostly blind with only some high praise from friends. Shirobako is a delightful show taking a fun yet serious look into the modern anime industry. The show covers many aspects of the industry from production to the difficulties of finding work. Generally, when I see a huge cast of girls on the poster I feel a little jaded and prepare myself for something overly moe, but I was honestly blown away with the depth of characters and variety o…

Shirobako is truly a delight to watch. While its focus on the anime industry was what interested me initially, what I loved most about the show was how it always made me feel warm & fuzzy inside :) This is owed to the wonderful script writing and characters. The show takes us through the successes, failures & concerns of the characters and industry, and I felt that it brings us closer to understanding the world of anime & its people, even a better understanding of ourselves! A definite must-watch for any— no, ALL— anime fans. This show starts off with plenty of administrative chaos at Musashino Animation Studio. It was quite a high note to start off on but with a whole lot of technical terms being thrown around in the office, it did get pretty confusing. As you watch on, however, you woul…

At first I thought this anime was boring, because at the beginning of the episode it was boring. But I was wrong. Watch to the end and you will find the excitement. This anime focuses entirely on the process of making an anime in an animation studio. Focuses on 5 girls who aspire to make an anime together, but over time after they graduate from school, they split up and find their respective jobs. Main character Miyamori Aoi works at Musashino Animation. This anime tells us how hard it is to make an anime in a studio. Employees in a studio each have very, very complicated jobs. Not to mention that they face problems and are being chased by deadlines. Therefore we all have to respect an anime and don't insult it, because behind an anime there are animators and employees who work tirelessl…

So it's been a good 4 years since I've written an anime review and recently I decided to come back to the community because of reasons. Part of why I wanted to come back was due to the fact that I wanted to share my opinion with the community on the best animes in my heart, and that I hope it finds a place in some of your hearts as well. Going into Shirobako, I was a little unsure of what I was getting myself into. I saw that the anime had a good rating and that it was a slice of life so it fit the general description of the animes I was looking for at the time. However, as i progressed through the series, I've realized that the anime had truly captured the meaning of slice of life and that was portrayed many times throughout the episodes. For example, the typical character dialogue to th…

Shirobako is so good that multiple times while watching I shed a tear, not because anything sad was happening, but just because of how awesome some of the scenes this anime are. The characters are all great since they are a change from the tropey high school/isekai characters we always see. The main female characters are never used for fanservice, and characters are a mix of young and old, married and single, overweight and skinny, and more. They are also super realistic and face relatable problems, which makes you care about them even more. The plot basically shows the process of creating anime. While it can feel like a lot of exposition at times, the content is interesting and when it's told by characters you are attached it does a good job in engaging you. If you've watched a lot of a…

5 friends who were part of the animation club at school, had the dream of turning their project into a real anime in which they would all work together. step forward we jump at the moment in which all were finished the school and they're fighting to make their dreams come true. This is how Shirobako begins, and it is a story that totally surprised me, caught me off guard and totally entered my heart. It is not the classic cliche story of romantic school comedy far from it, in fact it is one of the most mature that I have had to see about the weight of becoming an adult, getting the job of your dreams and realizing that not everything is perfect and that there are days when you really don't know if you can continue doing the same thing for much longer, in summary this is what this incredib…

Shirobako gives you a glimpse into the anime industry. It depicts accurately how the anime are made from storyboard creation to voicing the characters. It also shows you the struggle of characters from meeting tight and seemingly impossible deadlines to the conflicts between employees. The characters are very real they have their moments of desperation and despair which they have to overcome. It is journey of a group of friends from a high school who have dreams of succeeding in the anime industry and creating an anime together until they succeed after overcoming a lot of hurdles. It would have been a perfect 10 but I felt that the anime still paints a somewhat rosy picture of the industry but that is not going to stop anyone from enjoying it while also giving them some knowledge of the proc…

Do you like META things? Do you enjoy initial D? wait I'm joking, only half of this show is toooootally about car racing for a parking spot. On a more serious note: I love this show's setting of adults working in the anime production industry, it gives you some simplified insight into real anime production. It may not be perfectly accurate, but displaying the troubles and issues of real anime production is very interesting to most anime fans that enjoy learning stuff about the industry I'd assume. If only animators in real life were paid better or enough by the mega corp production committees ressource allocation directors. The characters are very enjoyable for the most part, with one character constantly messing up and being slightly annoying being the only exception. I just wished…

Reading the synopsis for this show, I wasn't really sure how good this show would be. The whole "5-girls try to achieve their goals" part seemed really generic to me and I was really afraid that this was gonna be another bland "cute anime girls doing whatever" slice-of-life anime. This show however, surprised me and disappointed me. It was surprising because for the most part, it spends more time focusing in the actual processes behind creating an anime and all the effort that goes behind it, which to me, was very interesting. Some the show's best moments for me revolve around the parts where they are focused on the anime production. The shop disappointed me by proving me right when it came to the characters. The main five girls, the characters who we are supposed to be invested in, aren'…

If you’re interested on how Anime was made, then “Shirobako” is really a “must watch” series. This show is not just entertaining, but it’s also very informative on how interesting and brutal the creating process is inside the anime industries. Now, let me state some few significant points without spoiling any major events. Episode one wasn’t really a good start. As a viewer, I was overwhelmed with a huge amount of characters and there were also a number of jargons. But episode by episode, the situations and characters were getting more interesting and clearer. For their usual used terms, few were explained thoroughly and I think it’s also better for you to search about them to get along with the story. I was a little bit lucky since the terms were already familiar since I’m an editor myse…
