Hibike! Euphonium is a brilliant work by Kyoto Animation. The anime makes us feel the passion, the stress, the frustration, and the happiness of playing music. You can feel the pressure on every character to improve on their instrument. The message of the anime is simple: enjoy the journey, not just the goal , In particularly, enjoy playing music together and enjoy the process of learning something difficult like playing an instrument.
As a Kyoto Animation anime, of course I would love to talk about the brilliant art and animation. There are really few PNG (static drawings) only one or two. The way the hair was animated was great. The only flaw in the animation is that the 3D animation sometimes feels a bit weird, especially when they play instruments or when the train appears, but it’s w…

People can play a sport for fun, enjoyment, and recreation while others may play sports for the purpose of competition and excellence.
The same could be said for music. Is music for enjoyment or excellence? In the anime, the band's new teacher asks the students to choose between treating music as a fun hobby or dedicating themselves to competition. This creates a divide that runs through the entire series. The pursuit of excellence demands sacrifice and relentless practice, but it also risks turning music into a means to an end. Rather than offering an easy answer, the anime explores the tension between the joy of playing and the desire to achieve something greater.
The series offers a remarkably realistic portrayal of concert band life. Rehearsals, auditions, and interpersonal conflict…

THIS IS A SPOILER-FREE REVIEW
Since bursting on to the scene back in 2005 with “Full Metal Panic – The Second Raid”, Kyoto Animation has become one of the most legendary anime studios of the 21st century. Their success is mostly contributed to by their different approach to a lot of standards established in the anime industry over the years. They place a higher emphasis on actual employment instead of freelancing, they work less hours and most of the people in the studio tend to finish one anime before hopping on to the next. This approach resulted in absolutely stunning artwork, consistency and of course, their signature character designs. They absolutely dominated the late 2000s and early 2010s with standout titles like “Suzumya Haruhi”, “Clannad”, “Hyouka” and many more.
But going into…

Plot and characters: 9/10
The message of the anime "I want to be better, I want to become a better version of myself" Is really inspiring. The anime does a really good job showing how hard it is to be in an orchestra and how much teamwork needs to be put in to be able to work, I also like how kumiko's relationship with everyone develops and how she is able to withstand her fear to talk to her old friend Reina. Its just the first season, but there are a lot of characters in this anime and some of them do not get any character development or any dialog. We just see them, I hope we get to know more about them as the series goes on. Also what I would like to see more Is how practicing a lot for your instrument affects your studies and life.
Pacing: 8.5/10

Overall Hibike Euphonium isn't bad by any means, it has the typically KyoAni animation, gorgeous character design (especially the hair) and basic, but endearing philosophy. Unfortunately it never takes that leap into a true plot driven or character driven narrative. None of the characters are elevated to the next level and plot remains largely generic all throughout the first season.
Hibike Euphonium is unique within the sphere of competition band anime as it is actually able to convey who is actually better at playing instruments. In many competition anime, once the music progresses beyond the 'obviously bad newbie' to a relatively good level it becomes very hard to articulate who is actually better at playing. A result of this is the anime constantly reminding the audience who you're su…

The story really got me, I never imagined that the anime would be a musical drama before watching it and, to be honest, the only part where the anime fails is the protagonist's romance, so I'll give my grades for each point.
Story/plot: 9/10.
I found the premise original and enjoyable, with a good narrative that didn't leave me lost, I found the pace of the competition favorable and enjoyable.
Characters: 10/10
Each character has their own personality and I would like to highlight Asuka with all her mystery and personality that was further deepened in the second season. I was surprised by Reina, who made her a more charismatic character in her own way. Overall, I liked all the characters.
Animation and art direction: 10/10.
They did an impeccable job and made me feel the same feeling I…

This work is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful pieces you can find in this genre, telling the story of a young high school girl who joins the band, loves music, and learns to build connections with other members of the group. You might expect it to be just another anime where characters are there merely to add variety, but what’s incredible is that everything has a purpose. From the moment you start Hibike Euphonium, you immediately sense the importance of the character development, the significance of the music, and the transformations that unfold. Each character brings something unique, endearing, and refreshing, and that’s probably what made me fall in love with this original work.
The themes explored in this first season are perhaps what leave the strongest impression: it’s not j…

The first season of *Hibike! Euphonium* is an amazing experience for anyone who loves compelling and well-crafted stories. The anime perfectly balances character development with the musical journey of the concert band club, creating a narrative that captivates from start to finish.
Kyoto Animation's work is outstanding, with incredible attention to detail in the characters, the instruments, and the musical performances. The relationship between Kumiko and Reina is one of the most engaging aspects, filled with intense moments that add a special touch to the story. Moreover, the soundtrack is beautiful and wonderfully enhances the emotions and drama throughout the series. It’s a season that brilliantly blends friendship, growth, and a passion for music!

I came in expecting more focus on music and less on drama, however it seems to be the other way around slightly. Despite that, it really outperformed my expectations, even with its popularity and ratings. I didn't expect to tear up at the ending scene, but I did.
It's hard to point out what exactly it is, but this anime does something really well when it comes to drama. You get drawn into the competitiveness of playing in an ensemble, you get invested in everyone's individual story: what they do, what they try to achieve, their challenges and achievements. The highs and lows of the band affect you like you're part of it.
However it's a bit disappointing that the musical part of a music centered anime is a bit neglected. Most performances are shortened or outright cut out, which sometimes…

I was never a band kid, I tried a couple of times, but it never went anywhere. I had no reason to get attached and engaged in this story, but that didn’t stop me. Sound! Euphonium is hands down my favorite anime, my love for this series is endless, only matched by the love and care the animators put into every episode. I see too much of myself here, which is weird to say considering this show has a cast of mostly women, but truly I feel seen by this anime. From the real conflicts to the way people treat each other it feels real, more so than most other anime out there.
Kyoto Animation brings their A-game consistently in Sound! Euphonium, every episode is movie quality and the directing is creative and moving. From the attention to detail in the instruments to the beautiful character anima…

This anime may not only be my favorite anime (if not, it's in the top five), but it may also be one of my favorite works of art of all time, in any medium. If this were classical music, it would be a work by Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, or Rachmaninoff (I know Rachmaninoff isn't, strictly speaking, classical, but oh well). While I can't honestly say this anime has no flaws, I can say that it, in a very real way, changed my life.
I don't say that lightly because many people will claim that about anime because they found their favorite waifu, etc., but this is so much more than that. I barely have enough words, but I'll try.
This anime has a very simple premise: Oomae Kumiko, a first year high school student, joins Kitauji high school, and then the band. Along with her friends Reina, Safaia, a…

This quite frankly could've been Kyoto Animation's greatest work had it "stood out" a little more. What I mean is, their other titles like Violet Evergarden, Clannad and K-On had elements to them that made them unique and instant fan favorites. Hibike! Euphonium can easily be described as another CGDCT high school club anime, and because of this I am not surprised that it never became as popular as those other titles.
Despite this, Hibike! is probably the most consistent and well-put-together storyboard/production that Kyoto has produced. The goal of the characters is simply to win gold in their concert preliminary. Such a basic premise might sound boring (especially to those who have no attachment to band music), however it makes it easier to flesh out the "meat" of the story and address…

Hibike Euphonium, aka Sound Euphonium. I had pretty high hopes for this one due to my loving of Bocchi the Rock and K-On.
It did not perform. To be fair, it is entirely my fault since K-On and especially Bocchi have good comedy. This? Almost 0 comedy whatsoever. This is music-focused. And yes K-On had not as much comedy as well, but K-On was executed much better than Hibike. I am not joking when I am saying that you can watch the 1st, 2nd, and the last episode and pretty much guess what happened in between.
Now I do not hate it, that would be a straight up lie. The music is amazing, as it should be haha
Animation is good
The base story itself is good, the school band wants to win a competition. I liked that element of it. I have not seen an anime like that for music.
All in all it is…

Simply one of the best music anime.
When you think about this type of show, many negative thoughts come to mind, but this anime has NO FLAWS.
I don't think I've ever seen characters so well developed, I've spent hours discussing their personalities with my friends and I still think there are several layers that haven't been commented on.
The setting is impeccable and you can feel the nervousness of the band members, cry with them and get very emotional with the events.
The characters' stories are told in an amazing way that works really well and each character's relationships are beautiful.
I truly recommend this.

I grew to love Hibike Euphonium and I believe you can too. Put aside your preconceptions. This is not just another CGDCT, this is not "yuribait." Hibike Euphonium is an expertly and lovingly crafted modern coming of age story with a totally unique sense of identity even in a medium oversaturated with such stories.
The visuals and sounds are consistently gorgeous and work together to immerse you in the world of competitive music performance. The artstyle from character designs to backgrounds is both instantly recognizable and non-challenging. Just like the show itself the art strikes a fine balance between accessible charm and serious elegance. It is equally well suited for both comedic and dramatic moments, gracefully embodying all the fun and struggle of juvenile musicianship and when th…

As a huge fan, I must say that Hibike! Euphonium Season 1 is incredible.
The story follows a group of high school students who are part of their school's concert band, and their journey to the national competition.
The characters are well-developed and relatable, with their own unique personalities and struggles. It's refreshing to see the characters grow and evolve throughout the series, as they face challenges and work together to overcome them.
The music in Hibike! Euphonium is simply breathtaking. The performances are incredibly realistic, and the soundtrack perfectly captures the emotions of each scene. It's clear that the creators put a lot of effort into making the music a central part of the series, and it pays off beautifully.
As for the pros and cons, I would say that the st…

I really don't think my words can justify just how much I love this show. I related to this story, and every character (Except Asuka) on such a personal level that I have literally no words to describe my thoughts other than that it is the best show I've ever watched in this medium.
I cried more during this than any other show I've watched and it NEVER tried to make me cry. The amount of details and empathy, understand, and emotional intelligence of this is beyond anything I've seen except Violet Evergarden which is also made by this same studio. It delves totally into the anxiety, pride, fear, struggle, of being a musician. It also shows the essence of music which is that we only put up with all of this because we love music.
The scenarios are realistic, it is never contrived, there i…

Hibike! Euphonium is an anime about a high school band and their struggles to improve. The story is simple, but the great characters and superb presentation are what make this anime a triumph. As someone who has never been in a band and never had much interest in being part of one, I have never thought I would enjoy an anime about high school band competitions so much. That's the power of KyoAni, this anime is so well done in every aspect that you can't help but get hooked. If anyone wants a KyoAni anime recommendation, I would say Hibike, since this is the anime that can show why this studio is loved by many anime fans.
The first scene in the anime set the tone brilliantly. In a brief interaction between the protagonists Oumae Kumiko and Kousaka Reina, you can already see their personali…

The first thing I want to say is "WOW"
STORY
So, the concept of the story in this anime is a kind of school club that had fallen but slowly got up and achieved achievements. The concept of a story like this is the same as the Haikyuu anime. But the concept of a story like this is still fresh and doesn't bore me. This anime has a simple story. The drama is also not complicated so that I as a viewer can understand the conflict easily. Every episode in this anime has an ending that always makes me curious about what will happen in the next episode. Therefore, this anime is not boring and does not require a long time to watch it until the end. 10/10 for the story
ANIMATION
In my opinion, the quality of animation is not in doubt. Animation created by studio Kyoto Animation never disappoints.…

Sound! Euphonium
Sound euphonium is Japanese animated series based on a novel of the same name by Ayano Takeda. The novel was brought to live by Kyoto animation studios, directed by Tatsuya Ishihara and Naoko Yamada (who you might know from works like Silent voice or Liz and the Blue bird).
The series is about a high-school band trying to improve and reach national competition. The Show is beautiful, but a bit slow and not too exciting. At least, that is what I thought when I first watched it several years ago. Many things have changed since then and now I can easily say that Sound! Euphonium is one of the best pieces of media I had the pleasure of laying my eyes upon.
Even though the show does revolve around high school band, it is fairly different from stories with a similar se…
