This one was disappointing, but it's possible my expectations were too high. You see, this anime has brief flashes of a much more interesting show that actually is about something: specifically the hyper-capitalist work culture and mandatory crunch in Japan, or even the games industry as a whole. We see every character at some point have to work so late into the night that the trains have stopped running, losing so much sleep they pass out at random moments, and multiple characters mention family and friends being openly worried about their health - our main character even gets in a fight during one such moment in defense of the company exploiting her.
By far the best scene in the show is the opening to Episode 10 when Aoba is riding the train into work, and we see the world around her d…

Watching New Game! was a very enjoyable experience. It's an anime where you can just sit back, relax and enjoy after a long day of work. The characters are likable and comforting. Animations are great and the arts and visuals are very cute and pleasant to look at. Personally, I really like the slice-of-life genre, but often time it's just not executed right. Some struggle to figure out what it's going to be, but that isn't the case for New Game. The anime knows that its plot is everyday life of a game development team, which is really refreshing. Another thing is that we don't get cute slice-of-life with adults often, as most are with middle or high schoolers. It can really get boring. You'll see the ups and downs and how hard it is to make a game. Overall, this anime is a great slice-of-l…

enjoyed it, was a nice thing to watch while overly stressed about my life. however, i could not stand her best friend character. rose my blood pressure every time she was on screen. could have done without. because of that, i preferred the first half. hoping to see less of her in season 2.
honestly though, i really enjoyed every other character, so that made it well worth it despite my qualms with nenecchi. all unique and entertaining with funny quirks, and just really nice dynamics all around. not every joke hit, and some stuff just felt corny and cringey, but that was all part of the charm and experience, at least to me.
it's not ibsen, but it's exactly what i needed it to be. relaxing, cute, and fun.

New Game! It delivers exactly what it promises, a cute girl with other cute girls doing... cute things? In general, this anime is like one of those cartoons you watched as a child, where you're not looking for an experience, but just want to see something silly. If you don't want to waste your time watching something complex, this anime is for you.
Story 05/10: The story is that cliché thing, she's just a girl who's fulfilling her dream of working in a games company, other than that there's no big plot or anything like that.
Character 07/10: The characters are very charismatic, despite having no depth, they are cute and you can see that they are very different, and that's cool;
Music 08/10: The songs are perfect for the anime, in a cuter style but at the same time with a touch of techno…

New Game is an amusing enough slice of life work-com that I'm admittedly a bit biased toward because I do 3D modeling ostensibly in the game industry for a living, so the accurate background details showing 3D modeling and texturing were right up my alley. There are some good game industry culture bits, like the airsoft guns in the office reminding me of many a nerf battle, but unless you're really invested in game development it's otherwise just a pretty okay slice of life gag series.
The characters are fun and I enjoyed their interactions, but truthfully not a lot actually happens. Most episodes are pretty firmly set the protagonist's cubicle and visually it does get a bit repetitive to look at. The artwork and character designs are good, but visually it never really goes above and beyo…

I fully enjoyed this. Not only was the art and character design cute, but the subject matter was cool and interesting. I enjoyed seeing the game development progress and the end was a satisfying close to the season.
As a gamer and an office worker, it made me want to work harder too. Aoba was a lovely lead that was earnest and one of the best characters in the show. Some of the work humor moments were relatable, such as with labelling things in the fridge and the different relationships you make with your coworkers.
Definitely part of the moe girls doing things SOL genre, but good nonetheless.
Just an overall fun ride and I enjoyed every minute.

When it comes to writing a coherent, enjoyable film or television series, many factors can shine. Whether that be thematic significance, mesmerising worldbuilding, or thought provoking dialogue, these can help push a show beyond mediocrity harder than I can abuse the rule of three writing this introduction to the rest of the review.
New Game doesn’t really feature many of these notabilities mentioned prior, but such is often to be expected from a slice of life show; an episodic one at that (of course, there exist plenty of great examples of environmental storytelling that serve as counterexamples, but as it’s obvious that this was not the goal of the creators, I digress). Nonetheless, an unchanging character environment without major conflicts of note can work, but ONLY if the humour work…

Cute girls doing things strikes again!
...from 2016. It is 2021 and I just watched New Game!
Here we have cute girls being productive members of society. Disclaimer: All characters depicted are 18 years of age or older. No real reason for the warning except Aoba (The main girl) looks like she is 12.
None of these characters look their age, but that is anime for you. Anywho! Let's see what this anime is about:
A 12 episode comedic look into the world of designing a game from the art dept. side of things. Ok. Cool.
This is a funny anime about a team of girls working on a project for a game company called Square Soft- I mean, Square Soft- I mean Eagle Jump! They are working on Final- Fairy Story 3. Ok I will stop with the mediocre joke. I am sure there are at least 20 reviews making the s…

first things first. an all-female anime? YES PLEASE. i was very happy to see an all-female cast for this that involved them all working in a game-esque environment. it was just nice to not see a creepy male co-worker or the one male character in the office surrounded by women.
this anime is really cute and i think that it's pretty nice to show what work-life is really about; at least when you love what you do for work that is. i like how the characters are all different from one another despite working on the same game.
- minor spoilers below -
i was really excited to see that the main character's best friend made a bigger appearance in the anime as well, instead of just being this character that was called every now and then like in other anime.
if someone wants a wholesome slice-of…

I watched New Game (both seasons and OVA). Here are my kinda unrefined thoughts:
Wow this is really similar to a real-life workplace. This is just reminding me of work. I don't know how anyone with an office job IRL would find leisurely watching this enjoyable. With episode titles such as "Salary is Just a Loophole in the Law to Lower Wages", how could I not feel relaxed while watching!
Oh Christ they're going out to lunch together on her first day and stuff like that. Wow this really is anxiety-attack material.
Speaking more broadly, this show incorporates the more unpalatable aspects of Japanese work culture. Foremost, incompetent project management and the long work hours. Framed another way, despite the show's typical SoL saccharine atmosphere, it does seem to present a somewhat authe…

I gave this show an 8, but I was very close to giving it a 9. I thought this would just be another one of your everyday moe blobs, but I was surprised to find there is actually some depth to it. The first season was just a really funny, interesting story about game designers, but then the second season actually almost moved me to tears. It's not sad, so don't worry about that, but it's just really nice. I grew to love these characters so much over the course of only 2 seasons. I HIGHLY recommend this anime if you like moe or slice of life, this is definitely better than average. It should have a higher score than it does as well. And I'm not a game designer, so I don't know much about it, but the workflow seemed realistic to me, and they didn't just skip past issues like overworking. Overa…

New Game! is a lighthearted series that follows Suzukaze Aoba, an aspiring character designer as she gets the chance to work on her favorite video game franchise, Fairies Story, a medieval Europe themed (nobody gets tired of those, ever) action adventure RPG. New Game! is one of those shows where everything the characters ever do appears to be cozy, fun, very soothing indeed. Doing overtime for 4 days in a row? Looks fun and cozy. Sleeping under your work desk because you did overtime until 3 AM and have to continue to work from 6 AM on next day to meet deadline? Looks fun and cozy.
You have your characters here like you usually would have them with this flavor; Aoba is reliable, always happy, sensitive and adorable. Hifumi is reserved, shy and adorable. Yun is friendly, hard working and…

About cute girls doing cute things Countless animes use this well, of course for the purpose being this (speak the obvious in different ways)
New game does not bring anything new or interesting to make it above average So at all points (History, art, characters, sound, pleasure and in general) He deserves a satisfactory 5
The story is enough for you to accept what’s happening in the environment where the characters are placed but nothing big
Animation or character art is pretty standard. The somewhat strong lighting is satisfactorily supported by the characters' traits and the environment that is more concentrated in closed places like the office where they work Simple characters that do cute things again (nothing new)
The sound is also quite normal in both opening and closing in a…

Note: This is a broad review with minimal spoilers that encompasses both seasons of the show. Overall, it's a cute show that you might find enjoyment out of. And if you are bigger into moeness than I am, you might end of loving it.
Episode: 24 (About 20 minutes each episode)
Plot: B-: Aoba Suzukaze is a high school graduate that opts out of going to a prestigious art school and instead finds work with a gaming company called Eagle Jump where she gets right to work as a character designer. She is both excited and nervous to find out that her idol, famed lead character designer of her favorite video game series: Faries Story, Kō Yagami is her immediate supervisor. Throughout the course of the show, we get to see some of the processes involved in making video games and get a glimpse into th…

I'm not the kind of person who leave review but i really wanted to leave one for New game! so please forgive me if this is not the most long and complete review.
I've been avoiding watching this show for so long, why ? Because i'm an Artist in a AAA video game company. I was SO scared of this anime being dumb or "insulting" my job, my passion. Then few month ago, i start having doubt at work and wondering what i was doing in this industry and so i watch New game !
This show is everything to me. It's very accurate to real videogame production, not only that the character felt so alive that i start identifying myself and my coworkers to characters of the show. I stressed with them, i cried with them, i laugh and facepalm, every episodes brought me back a piece of happiness remembering me w…

New Game is such a cute anime, it was a joy to watch honestly. If you're more into the fighting/fantasy anime, this one probably isn't for you, but if you want a good slice of life, I definitely recommend this one. It is something you could watch without getting too confused, and very adorable. I absolutely loved it. Here's Why:
Story: 7/10
The story isn't the reason I watched this anime. It was great and all, with cute an funny bits added in. There was a story that was followed, and it did a good job following it.
Art: 9/10
I absolutely loved the cute art style that this anime had. It was really adorable, and pleasing to the eyes. I'm one to judge an anime by the art style (I know, shame on me I get it,) but I just can't help it.
Sound: 8/10
I'm not the best at judging the sound of the…

New Game is a simple slice of life anime about a girl fresh out of high school that gets a job as a 3d artist at a game company.
While this anime doesn't do anything especially outrageous, I don't think that is necessary for a slice of life anime.
What you get is a fairly tame, cutesy anime that is very low key. If you just need something light and upbeat to watch, this anime accomplishes that very well. It's got the upbeat nature of K-On! mixed with the hustle and bustle of the life of a salaryman (or woman in this case).
Where this anime does differ from your average slice of life is the setting and age of the characters. Animes in this genre have a tendency to focus on the mundane day-to-day of school girls so it's a nice change of scenery.
The story itself tends to be unbelievabl…

Ok, where do I even start?
I became a softie for Moe and I was SO happy when I found this. This show is adorable! I learned a few things as well. It portrays part of what the game developing industry is, in a fictional environment. It does so pretty well imo.
Hifumi is best girl, no one can change that opinion.
The show is quite wholesome, and I believe many will appreciate that aspect of it. There's a handful of ecchi scenes here and there, but it's so minute, that it doesn't define the purpose of the show. Very little fan service. It is quite touching as well. The animation is on par, and the intro is nice too. The yuri senses tingled slightly lol

New Game! was a pretty spicy show that honestly did not disappoint. It's sweet, salty, and spicy all at once and ends up being a great mix at parties.
Story: As your run-of-the-mill moe slice of life, there isn't really much story aside from various parts of video game creation. That being said, I can't really rate on story that much.
Art: Cute pastel colors always compliment moe well, and this show shows that. Each character is distinctly different in what colors that accompany them, even from the clothes. This variety prevents everyone from looking or meshing together, which you can see in certain shows, although anime today tends to fixate on characters that feel similar, but are actually different in appearance. Backgrounds in this show also are neat.
Sound: The voice acting doesn'…

This is really a review for both seasons as my main issue spans both seasons also. I get the main characters are just out of high school w/ one being in college but how many people would actually last long at their jobs if they acted as childish as the characters do?
I do wish they would have made the characters actually look like younger adults instead of 13-14 year olds with matching attitudes and annoyingly high voices. Had I been in their managers position they would have probably been fired after the 1st paycheck.
Besides that, the story was fine and the rest of the characters are enjoyable.
