Kiki's Delivery Service

Kiki's Delivery Service

Introduction

Kiki, a 13-year-old witch-in-training, must spend a year living on her own in a distant town in order to become a full-fledged witch. Leaving her family and friends, Kiki undertakes this tradition when she flies out into the open world atop her broomstick with her black cat Jiji. As she settles down in the coastal town of Koriko, Kiki struggles to adapt and ends up wandering the streets with no place to stay—until she encounters Osono, who offers Kiki boarding in exchange for making deliveries for her small bakery. Before long, Kiki decides to open her own courier service by broomstick, beginning her journey to independence. In attempting to find her place among the townsfolk, Kiki brings with her exciting new experiences and comes to understand the true meaning of responsibility. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Kiki's Delivery Service is one of those Ghibli movies that feels incredibly comforting. There isn't a huge villain, an epic battle or the world ending; it's simply about a young girl trying to figure herself out while living independently for the first time. I really liked watching Kiki slowly adapt to her new life, make friends and realize that growing up isn't always as exciting as we imagine. Sometimes you lose motivation, sometimes things you used to love suddenly become difficult, and sometimes you just need to stop for a moment and breathe. The atmosphere is probably my favorite part of the movie. The little town, the bakery and Kiki flying around delivering things make everything feel strangely cozy. It almost feels like watching someone's childhood memories. Maybe the story is too…

English (Version) Endless gratitude to the Summer Stack Challenges event and its "Witching Hour" theme for letting us earn this little wizard hat and wand badge. This is my second event on MyAnimeList, and I've come to realize just how welcoming the community is and how incredible these challenges are. They don't just push people to watch things off the beaten path, but they also get everyone talking. Kudos to the organizers! Now, as for the movie itself: Favorite characters: Osono and Úrsula Worst character: Madame's granddaughter Pros: Visually stunning—Ghibli never misses the mark on that front. The story is really well-crafted; this was only my second film from the studio, and I immediately noticed how unique their art style is. Anything involving witches and magic always catches…

Enjoyable beyond belief. God, I fucking loved being in this world and spending time with all of these characters. Kiki is easily one of the most likable characters from a Miyazaki movie so far, that won't change after I've seen all of his movies. Her journey is so fucking engaging to go on as she goes out into the world on her own and faces personal struggles along the way, but also a lot of joy as well. It's an amazing character movie, as Kiki herself is super well written and acted. All of the side characters are memorable as well, both the likable and unlikable ones. There are so many moments that just feel so real and hit so hard. I love how it shows her getting emotionally overwhelmed and saddened at points throughout, and sometimes she doesn't even know why. It captures such specific…

I really love this! I do not regret watching this anime, the animation's movement is really great, Kiki's character is really interesteing and the whole story is nice and interesting. The characters are good and well written. The only regret I have is that I did not watched it before. I really recommend watching it. I really enjoyed it, it was really nice watching this movie. This anime can bring smiles, at least in my case. I wasn't bored, I was focused and interested for whole movie. The artstyle is okay too, the character's designs are simple but pretty. And gosh, thanks there's no fan service in this, nowadays most animes have fan service on high level. I would be mad if they sexualized a literal child. But they didn't! And that's really good :)

This film perfectly blends the magical life of Kiki with the ordinary people doing their everyday routines. Unlike shows where the one who has magic is treated differently from the ordinary people, this film used magical realism effectively. I saw no heavy dramas, action, and romance, instead, watching this feels entirely therapeutic—like the feeling of lying in a meadow in the late afternoon with a cool breeze blowing over you. Additionally the ghibli animation style make the sceneries feel so dreamy and calm. I appreciate that the major characters were kind. You can also see the development of Kiki throughout the movie, and her realistic portrayal of a child navigating the adolescent stage. If you enjoyed spirited away, there's a chance that you will love this film as well.

Growing up is that in-between phase where excitement about freedom suddenly collides with the reality of living on your own. At first it feels like you finally unlocked “adult mode” and everything is going to be smooth and aesthetic… until you realize bills, expectations, and self-doubt exist and nobody really warned you properly. Confidence starts acting like WiFi in a bad area. Sometimes so strong, sometimes completely gone at the worst possible moment, and independence slowly turns from something exciting into something that demands consistency even when you don’t feel ready for it. Through Kiki’s Delivery Service, this whole phase of life is captured in a way that feels painfully familiar. Kiki’s move to a new city starts like a main character moment with fresh air, new place, new life…

Kiki's Delivery Service is everything you would expect a 90's-early 2000's Ghibli movie to be: wonderfully animated, beautifully scored, and deeply heartfelt. There's little more I can say about Ghibli's marvelously charming animation, or Joe Hisashi's excellent score. It's a Ghibli movie, you get the picture. It's simply masterful. I especially loved how all the background characters in this movie had their own little world going on. All of Miyazaki's works feel so lived in, and Kiki's city feels particularly idyllic (while still being new, confusing, and overwhelming for Kiki herself). Miyazaki remains an expert at constructing his story's environments. Most of what could be said about this movie has already been said, so I'll keep things brief. Kiki as a protagonist is wonderful. I…

A wonderful coming-of-age film with some fantasy elements mixed in. Unlike Howl's Moving Castle or Spirited Away, there aren't a lot of "magical" stuff going on in this movie. The most we get is a flying broom and a talking cat. Kiki's Delivery Service, at its core, is a Slice-of-Life (SoL) and coming-of-age story about a young witch making DoorDash deliveries. The plot mostly centers around Kiki and Jiji's adventures in the new city. After leaving her parents' house at 16, Kiki flies off in search of a place where she can offer her witch services. Just like every other teenager, she must learn to live on her own and find her true calling. That means finding a job, looking for housing, and looking for ways to help people. As with all cozy Ghibli films, the story doesn't follow the three-pa…

Kiki’s Delivery Service is one of those films where I genuinely have nothing to complain about. Everything about it just works. The story, the atmosphere, the characters, the music. It’s such a warm, comforting movie that feels like a gentle hug every time you watch it. I can honestly recommend it to anyone, no matter their age or taste, because it has this timeless charm that never fades. If I kept talking about it, I’d just end up repeating myself about how beautifully crafted and thoughtfully made it is. The animation is gorgeous, the world feels alive, and Kiki’s journey is both relatable and inspiring. It’s a simple story, but told with so much heart that it becomes unforgettable. A truly lovely film.

It’s hard to explain why Miyazaki movies are so amazing, because on paper, they shouldn’t work, as most of them don’t follow the traditional 3 part method of story telling. Everything else works well, such as the characters, but not much development of the characters or story is made throughout the movies. But what makes them work is feels. Miyazaki’s films are incredible at giving you that childlike wonder/nostalgia, they just give you such a warm and comforting feeling, like revisiting your childhood house. I will say this movie doesn’t feel as good as Totoro or Spirited away, because I feel like there is not much well developed story in this movie, but overall, an amazing movie, 100% worth spending my money buying this on blu-ray to watch for Christmas-eve

We all need a damn break. The simplest of Miyazaki movies, and these've been the best for me. It depicts the textbook coming of age of a little girl who's trying to become independent for a year, as per witch tradition. Great motive, simple but great, even if small stakes. Call me weird, or insane, but I like it when the two parents are just phenomenal and nice as hell. Movies don't need the destiny or the world, or death as consequences. Kiki is just trying to have a good experience in her year of loneliness, and she's gotta deal with balancing work, free time, motivation, friendships. It's relatable as hell, and her block on magic feels exceedingly true to life. Which hammers into it the main thing about everything. Take breaks. Life just started, and by the time you pumped out bad…

Kiki's Delivery Service was another excellent Studio Ghibli film I enjoyed immensely. It is a movie about a 13-year-old Kiki leaving home to complete her witch training. Watching her learn to do things on her own was encouraging and worrying, and the film does a wonderful job of showing her struggling with independence and confidence. The slow and slice-of-life pace gives you a true sense of being in her world and experiencing the full force of her experiences. I loved seeing her little victories and moments of epiphany, and the tale is well-balanced between whimsy and reality that rings true and feels warm. Kiki herself is extremely charming, and Jiji is perfectly witty and charming with all of his little reactions. I also adored the people she met along the journey. They are all so swee…

Just finished it blind for the first ever time. It’s definitely one of my favorites. Simple plot, simple story, a lot of charm and memorable characters. The idea of the movie simply just being about a witch creating a delivery service creates a lax atmosphere and low stakes. Characters are pretty well rounded and all feel like they belong in this world. The conflict was unexpected to happen in movies like this but also a compelling one. I almost want to see more of the movie by the end. Wish there was an 11/10 option just for this movie. Beginning, middle, and end feel like they belong together unlike Spirited Away where things kinda start happening all at once near the end in my opinion. Others will most likely enjoy this and probably put it on the higher ranking of Ghibli.

Kiki's delivery service seems like a pretty good coming of age movie. There isn't much of a story, instead the movie progresses by following Kiki and her experiences as she starts her own delivery service and attempts to become independent. Along the way she faces hardships, both big and small, that she has to overcome. This did mean that I personally did not like the movie because I find it painful watching things go wrong again and again. Kiki is a pretty good character for this story but some of her decisions were a bit puzzling. The side characters were good and I liked how expressively animated they were. The animation is quite good in general which is impressive considering the movie was released in 1989. The voice acting and music were both good too. Overall this can be a good…

Kiki's Delivery Service is one of the best GHIBLI anime movie I've ever watched.Everything in this movie like: Animation, Storyline, Musics are very well made. **NO SPOILERS** This movie depicts a girl story who is from a witch family, after she become 13 years old, she become Independent and gone away from home to find a town and work there. The real fun begins when she found a town and try to live there. I know this is some kinda boring, but when you see it the musics, and the way of life mix in the movie, feels much pleasure. This movie is about 1 hour and 43 minutes. If you have enough time watch this right now. It will make your day.

This film intricately weaves the story of a young witch navigating the bustling cityscape while establishing her very own delivery service, staying true to its title's promise. The visuals paint a mesmerizing picture, each frame a masterpiece of artistic expression, while the music gracefully underscores the emotions unfolding on screen. Kiki, our protagonist, emerges as a truly enchanting character—her warmth and kindness radiating through every interaction. Yet, it's her unwavering determination and independent spirit that truly define her. She fearlessly follows her own path, unfazed by the opinions of others, making her journey all the more inspiring and relatable. In essence, it's a heartwarming and uplifting tale, leaving audiences with a sense of joy and fulfillment long after the c…

Story: who wouldn't love to travel even if it isn't tourism, traveling is fun... Especially in groom sticks and growing imagination. Who wouldn't want a friend who's up right there to give space, make u up and coexist with you, who wouldn't love cats, who wouldn't love such a movie that could show all of the universal love in my different forms. Characters: love kiki but moreover Ursula has my whole heart. She does all of the things that an artist yearns for lifestyle. Importantly interacting with nature to the core. Yeah, not to leave off the guy lead he's cool he's a cyclist awww watch the movie if not my excitement would make up a part 2 in the review section itself :-p

Kiki is by far one of favorite characters from Ghibili movies. She is fun and nice, not spoiled. She is brave and capable of being weak. She is also very responsible. Plus, her character design just pops in every scene. The pros about this movie is that it's definetly ONE of the best from Ghibili. Many people say this is the best, or this is great, but just like My neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away, this movie is very good to rewatch anytime. Simple, beautiful, whimsical. Plus, for non anime fans, this movie has a more wonderful, toned-down feel to it's fantasy. In fact, the cons about this movie, to me, is that there just isn't enough fantasy compared to other movies like Howls moving Castle. This movie is more a light-hearted film about a young witch who has a delivery service job…

Kiki was the first film I watched from Studio Ghibli, and I'm proud that it was the first, and it is highly recommended by me (even though I'm nobody) for being a light and easy-to-understand film, for those who have already seen it, perhaps agree that this is a good film as an introduction to Studio Ghibli films, if you don't agree I respect your opinion. As much as we have a somewhat clichéd concept of witches, if we take into account the issue of Burnout, or disillusionment, or even last resort withdrawal, it is a good film to help us know what we can do about certain issues, even if we have these three points mentioned by me and I say this even from experience in the issue of Burnout and disappointment together. -------------------------------------------------------------------------…

Kiki is a witch only because she hallucinates talking to her cat and flying 11,300 meters in altitude; in other words, she gets high. Her mother appears to be more of a self-taught pharmaceutical scientist who is probably also an anti-vaxxer as well as someone who believes in free-range parenting, rather than a witch. We are told about so-called “training” that Kiki will undergo, but we get nothing of the sort. The first nice boy she meets in an unfamiliar city, she decides to hate for unknown reasons. Perhaps it was her insecurity stemming from the lack of interaction with boys, or otherwise (more likely) not having enough magic mushrooms at that particular moment to keep her mellowed and grounded while kickstarting her witch alter ego. She thinks the lady that took her in is exceeding…
