I mostly agree with others' opinions. I had similar issues with this anime.
The zoo/pedo jokes in the first few episodes feel odd, even by Japanese standards. Thankfully, they aren’t as frequent later on.
I loved the cultural and religious elements, like the portrayal of the Ainu people, bear worship, Kagura ceremonies, and other traditions. I didn’t expect them to be so interesting, but they really are.
The humor is surprisingly good. While there are a few strange or cringey jokes, there are also genuinely hilarious moments that had me in tears. I especially enjoyed the jokes based on Natsu being a bear, along with some clever meta-anime humor—like the moment Machi grabs a table to throw it, and Natsu stops her, saying, “Don’t throw the table like an anime character!” That one had me l…

For the initial introduction, I didn't expect anything from this anime at all, because I saw the score which was quite low.
However, this anime turns out to be quite fun to watch, even though the storyline isn't too special or anything interesting. but it's not boring to watch.
Honestly, I wasn't in the mood to watch anime, but after watching this anime I started to get excited again has a cute, beautiful character, it's okay to just call me a pedophile for this.
As for the delinquent character, I don't really like him, at the beginning his presence quite spoiled the atmosphere, but over time I started to get used to it.
I recommend this anime for you to watch, if you are looking for a Slice Of Life theme, A little comedy and humor that is enough to make you laugh, and if you like the c…

A (at first) slightly above average and original slice of life cute girls show with good (some would say questionable) fan Service throughout.
The animation is good where it matters. Machi's expressions are lively and dynamic, backed by an equally good Voice Performance by Natsumi Hoika.
Supporting Characters are serviceable and the charm of the show comes comes entirely from Machi's personality, who despite being shy, a social mess and constantly being taken advantage of, stays strong willed. - Resulting in a unique show that makes you simultaneously root for and laugh at the the main character.
The Comedy is well executed, though not everyone will find the constant exploitation of the main character and sexual harassment as comic relief funny; for those few who can laugh at such jokes…

Story
Kuma miko is a simple slice of life involving Machi and her bear, Natsu. The tone is a bit mean sprited towards Machi and it only gets worse as the series goes along. There are some nice wholesome moments, but if you are mianly looking for nice heart warming wholesome slice of life, please look elsewhere. The other characters treat Machi poorly and do not much to help her out with her extreme anxiety. This is unsettling especially because the show is much darker than it looks. The story goes at a nice pace, but some epsiodes are far more inconsequnetial than others.
Art
The animation and art style looks very "cute". Characters look younger than their actual age because of the very round faces.
Sound
The ending song is an earworm and can be mildy annoying at time. Not much else…

I watched Kuma Miko (including the OVAs). Here are my thoughts:
The anime takes place in a nice rural-Japan setting, which is complemented by the pleasant organic-looking background art when outdoors. Character designs are unremarkable, however the character animation is sometimes better than I'd expect from this kind of show.
Unlike so many other comedy-heavy SoL shows, this show is actually funny. I laughed out loud during pretty much every episode. There are comedic spins on traditional Japanese culture and folklore, plus a lot of lolruraljapan humour. I often dislike comedy-heavy anime but I really enjoyed this one. The humour is way better than the typical slapstick garbage that you might begrudgingly expect. A common theme in the writing is the clash between modern life and traditi…

Kuma Miko is a moe show that's not very shy about being one, and it does things a little differently than usual which is where most people seem to be most disappointed about. When you watch a moe show, you'd expect everything to be completely positive and upbeat and on the outside, Kuma Miko is exactly that kind of show. However if you take a closer look, you'll find that the characters are deeply flawed in oftentimes uncanny realistic ways, hidden behind its cuter appearance. If there were any character that perfectly embodied my experience watching this show, it wouldn't be the MC, it wouldn't be the bear, it would actually be Yoshio, the MC's cousin as well as the miko's caretaker.
Yoshio starts off being just someone who exists in the background, to someone who's unexpectedly reliable…

If what you want to watch some mindless, lighthearted, slice of life that will make you laugh and forget for 24 minutes the not so good stuff of the outside world, then please look somewhere else. If you watch this, you will end up significantly worse.
THIS IS NOT A HAPPY ANIME.
Having said that...
Spoilers ahead:
I'll say that this series needs to have "psychological" and "horror" added to its genres because, my god, I almost thought it was going to go full School Days on me.
So, for starters, sound, art and animation: Top notch. I have nothing to complain about it. It sometimes goes weirdly ecchi but, I mean, there are others that go far worse.
The story starts fairly normal. You follow Macchi, a 14 year old shrine maiden that somehow lives alone with a, really cute, brown bear ca…

The premise of Kuma Miko seems straightforward enough: a coming-of-age story about Machi leaving the village to get tackle her crippling social anxiety and become a city girl where she feels she belongs. It's decent enough in concept and her chemistry with her talking bear friend, Natsu, is a cute father-daughter kinda dynamic.
But there are two things that ultimately killed the show for me over time:
1. The over-sexualization of Machi. Way too many times, the show has her getting dolled up for idol shows, being fantasized having sex with a bear, or peeked at, groped and tackled in the worst way I have ever seen any "comedic" sex gag pull it off. They focus a lot of time objectifying a 13-year-old girl as opposed to building her as a character. Really frustrating.
2. The ending. I won't…

"Kuma Miko" Is a show with some disturbing qualities.
While the show is not bad and i found myself genuinely laughing. But when you sit down and think about it. You realize that Machi ( MC ) Is in a bad environment.
To Quote "bloggbigg" From episode 12
"This is the episode where:
Yoshio admits he was 'sacrificing' her for the village,
Hibiki demands Machi be allowed to make her own choices, & Even Kuma admits he was too hard on her
(though he's quick to capitalize on her weakness in the end).
In case you didn't figure it out- Yoshio is the one who gave her the idea people would throw stones at her. She's a product of her environment- and that environment is not so good.
Living out in the mountains with people who just use you as a symbol- where would you get the idea to make a 'go…

If you don't like idiot girls, you probably won't like this, but I think it's funny and Kuma Miko does it very well. Supporting cast are endearing with realistic goals. Everybody is very consistent with their very small village setting with everybody clearly caring for each other and having a great sense of community and nobody having ever heard of or even considered complicated social issues. That's not a factor in their lives, so naturally, they might offend some people by being insensitive.
Enjoyment:…

This show is a heart candy for people of a very very specific category: Someone who suffers extreme anxiety in public, but, instead of being depressed like one would be in that mindset, wants to be socially accepted, instead. To everyone else, this show takes a bit more thought to understand.
To most people, this will just be a moe anime that has its funny moments and people will get their head stuck on the 1st episode which implies bestiality, despite that this is only used for shock value as the character proceeds to, explicitly, break any further implications with a mention of neutering. This joke is, then, never used again, or even implied. It has purpose though; An very important element is mentioned in the joke that will come back again and again, throughout the show (No, It's not t…

Secretly a psychological horror anime (and not in a good way)
Kuma Miko has good music funny jokes, good music, and...a terrible moral lesson?
This anime does its best to make you root for its main character, Machi, in achieving her dream, however, as the story progresses, many side characters succumb to selfishness and begin to actively impose their will over Machi, leaving the final moments of the show in almost a bizarro world where the viewer may end up questioning the creators intentions in creating this show.
If you are interested in this show, it may be better to watch compliations of its high points on youtube, as its slice-of-life format lends its jokes little need for context in the bigger picture. This anime is one that will hurt any viewer who gets invested as time goes on w…

It's just pathetic.. and totally horrible
Once you just watch this series could possibly ticks you off very badly not because it's a slice of life theme which is much more focuses to a little girl as miko and a talking bear. That's it? No no no you may been wandering about the
changes of Machi through every episode right?
Her anxiety just got even worst, which unrelated to others that she's seeking help but they aren't few people can trust her. It's just felt wrong to see her like that.
All those gimmick makes me throw off, especially the ending, Director what happened? You make the series just left like that? A country bumpkin became isolated by going into the city. Gosh pls no this is not what I wanted.
Moving on, to the jokes here. Seriously those PEDOJOKES just needs to stop, It's…

Hi there, I don't always write reviews (and this must be my first one), but I just wanted to write my opinion, so people don't get confused on just bad reviews. I think it's really underrated.
This anime is great to people who like slice of life with fantasy elements like me. Who like japanese traditional culture. But overall animes show just light and happy parts of life, and few of them show real life like it is: with it's bad and good parts. This one is part of that animes, that's why I liked it so much. I mean, when you see an anime about a village, the people is very kind, and almost ideal. In some animes could be a bad character in the village, but they make sure, that the viewer consider them a bad character, and not normal. But it's more like authors of such anime didn't talk wit…

When you just think nothing can go wrong with this show. Kumamiko suicide for artistic purpose. Nobody is expecting that. This show is so malicious ,
Kumamiko is one of those anime that I don't enjoy and I won't recommend watching, but I still think it's good.
The most prominent ''problem'' of this anime is that its ending (which is not based on the original manga) is filled with negativity. This was not supposed to happen in comedy, even the creator of the original manga is dissatisfied with it. However if you pay enough attention throughout the show, this ending is well-planned by the anime production team... The malice is real.
The first half of the anime is really enjoyable. Especially episode 3. It deserves a 99/100.
However the another part of the anime starts to make people fee…

The Arctic Circle. Pine-tree forests. Amidst bamboo shoots. On snack boxes at the grocery store. Within my favorite video game of all time (and who my name is based on).
Bears are everywhere. Okay, maybe not everywhere, but they are in enough places that the majority of people know a bear when they see one. However, nobody has ever met a talking bear. At least, I haven’t.
Thankfully, that’s what Kuma Miko treats us with. Not-so-thankfully, the anime mistreats its audience, its own characters, and even itself.
STORY
Kuma Miko stars Machi and Natsu. Machi is a cute girl who also happens to be her small village’s “miko.” Natsu is Machi’s closest friend and talking “kuma” (i.e., bear). Hence the title, Kuma Miko. O…

I will try to keep it short, so first of all, this series made me laugh. Not just thinking it was funny, but actually laughing out loud. That being said, many of the laughing points are very much so something that really isn't funny if you haven't lived in Japan for quite a while. The series makes fun of and jokes around with stereotypes and prejudiced thinking, while generally being quite funny from mostly a "big city" perspective.
Kuma miko is not a series you should watch for character development, happy endings or any deeper meaning, although the art is pretty good. Generally speaking though, the first couple of episodes were probably was the funniest.
If you think that inside (Japan) jokes are funny, you don't mind the lack of fulfillment story wise and you are not all that touchy a…

Started well with likable characters, fun jokes and a reasonable story. Virtually all the supporting cast do have their own fun quirks and a little bit of backstory. The art style is pretty, but also quite generic at this point in time.
The story is enjoyable to a point, and lives mostly on interaction and situational comedy, which it pulls off very well usually, without sounding too repetitive of any other comedy anime out there.
The last 2 episodes pulled the overall and almost every category down by one or two points. The ending seemed unenthusiastic and haphazardly thrown together. If you want to watch this anime, only watch the first 10 episodes and you will be left much happier.

TL;DR:
This anime is about an insecure, ill-informed shrine maiden and her constant abuses that lead up to an ending so odd that the manga's creator needed to apologize for it to ensure his sales weren't jeopardized. While the music as well as art are surprisingly decent, it's dragged down by the poor characters and lax story. Essentially, if you enjoyed the lip curling suffering of vulnerable youths such as in Watashi ga Motenai, then expect the same without as much payoff. Story: 5
Machi is a 14 year-old girl who lives with the large talking bear Natsu who is shown caring for her alongside aiding in development towards cultural plights. You see, Machi wants to move out of her village to the city nearby and rid herself of her…

Um, this anime I find to be a mixed bag. The first 5 episodes were quite enjoyable and I would easily rate 8/10 (overlooking some uncomfortable fanservice scenes.
*Minor Spoilers for the rest of the review*
However, starting at episode 6, the story starts getting serious about Machi being overwhelmed by urban society. You'd think she'd overcome her fears in the final arc, but it actually increased her anxiety with city life.
The anime could've ended with "Oh you made a little progress, Machi. Let's try our best next time!". But instead it ended "Forget about city life and enjoy the life we have now!". I don't think this message is inherently bad, but it ignored the previous trials she overcame. It pissed the hell out of me; what was the point of the last half of the anime!?
I would fee…
