Kyou kara Maou!

Kyou kara Maou!

Introduction

Kyou kara Maou! revolves around Yuri Shibuya, your average Japanese teenager. One day, Yuri sees a classmate being harassed by bullies. Thanks to this intervention, his friend is able to escape, but unfortunately Yuri becomes the new target of the bullies in the process and gets his head shoved into a toilet. But instead of water, the toilet contains a swirling portal that sucks him into another world, largely resembling medieval Europe. There, he is told that he will become the next Demon King due to his black hair and black eyes, traits only possessed by the demon's royal lineage. Yuri's arrival is met with some skepticism by some of the demons, who view him as unworthy to be their king. However, after Yuri wins a duel by utilizing his magical powers, the demons slowly begin to acknowledge him as their monarch. Yuri must now learn what it takes be a true Demon King, as he tries to keep the peace between demons and humans in this strange new realm.

Overview: I can definitely say that I've seen a fair number of shows and movies over the years that I ended up enjoying a lot more than I initially thought I would. "Kyou Kara Maou" is an anime that has a lot going against it pretty much from the get-go- it's an isekai with a boy's love harem, three of, if not THE, most controversial anime genres there are. What's more is that it was animated by Studio Deen, meaning it might as well have been made by amateurs as far as the anime community is concerned. Even so, "Kyou Kara Maou" is pretty damn good, if mainly in spite of its controversial elements rather than because of them. Story & World (7.5/10): "Kyo Kara Maoh" tells the story of 15-year-old Yuri Shibuya who, after being given a swirly by a gang of bullies, suddenly finds himself trans…

Genuinely alot better than I would have initially though. It's primarily an adventure comedy isekai harem. Normally I wouldn't watch shows of such a genre, however this show doesnt fall into the modern isekai tropes. Each character is unique and memorable, some more likeable than others, however each of them seem to expand the story and world in a genuinely positive way. Rather than being stuck in this isekai world, the main character actually routinely moves between the two worlds, so the show isn't about finding a way out, it's a genuinely fun and comedic adventure that caries very serious world building that over the course of the series grows frighteningly more relevant. The main character himself initially comes across as boring and bland, however he very quickly becomes the heart tha…

"I'm surprised that a novel with so many plot holes was made into an anime" - series editor GEG It's just your typical isekai where MC gets flushed down a toilet and ends up in an isekai resembling medieval Europe and turns out that he's overpowered and everyone he meets just falls in love with him. The plot with the boxes had potential but the BL aspects that focus on and romanticize a toxic relationship between Yuuri and Wolfram ruins it all. Art and Animation: Even considering that the anime is made in 2004 both art and animation are abysmal. Looks like they wasted their entire budget on drawing Wolfram's pretty face. The characters look terrible when the camera doesn't focus on their faces, art style keeps on changing from episode to episode, sometimes they have these huge eyes othe…

This show exudes early 2000 vibes. In short: a standard everyday Japanese boy named Yuri is going through a normal day, when he accidentally gets flushed down a toilet into another world. Yes. A toilet. Honestly, considering how many isekai stories there are now, this was a refreshing parody ahead of its time. Yuri arrives in a fantasy land of swords, magic, horses, and strife. And immediately finds out...he's the demon lord!! Except wait. Despite that frightening title, demon lord doesn't really mean much. Demons in this world are basically just a race of humans, except with more magical talent and longer life spans, that have their own Kingdom and culture...but are otherwise still humans. (Honestly they looked exactly the same as humans and acted exactly the same, and I wasn't sure why…

As someone who really loves the isekai theme, it's hard to find one that really tugs on your heartstrings while still giving you the action and adventure you need. This anime gives you precisely that, but with a little bit of spice. The plot of the story does not fall within the usual cliches and you might stumble across several plot twists that you didn't expect. I personally enjoy long animes, so it was a bonus for me, but do know that the story progression isn't as fast-paced as your usual 12-episode season. What this anime does extremely well also is the humour and banter that they weave into the story. You'll definitely find yourself grinning or chuckling when watching this. This particular anime made me fall in love with the world the characters existed in and I think that tells…

Okay, first of all this isn't my usual go to anime but having said that it sits at the top of my list. It's hands down my favorite anime to watch on repeat when doing nothing. I am obsessed with the characters, the story line, the worlds, the fantasy it belongs in and well.. this list is never ending. I do prefer the early 2000 anime over the most recent years, but still yet to understand why. Maybe its a nostalgia thing. This review could go on for ever giving props as there isn't anything bad to say about it. Unless you are against a tad bit of yaoi. Not much in here but slightly camp gesturing here and there. Overall 10/10 Give it a watch if you have the time. You won't be disappointed.

Kyou kara Maou! is frivolous, fun, and memorable. I've re-watched this series 3 times up to date. The synopsis captures the essence of this series perfectly. What would you expect of a series where the MC is flushed down a toilet and ends up becoming the demon king of another world?! It's a silly, happy, and hilarious adventure set in a fantasy medieval-like kingdom. Vibrant colors from 2000s style animation and silly songs contribute to the series appropriately. I still have one or two of the silly songs in my playlist today. Kyou kara Maou is very similar to typical shoujo shows in that it has very little plot progression and instead has numerous mini-arcs with various side characters. It's like many web or light novels in that the main focus is enjoying the ride and interactions. The…

Riding on a wave of nostalgia, I've found myself indulging in rereads of favorite books/manga and rewatches of favorite anime/TV shows. KKM is one such. I remember it being an engaging mix of zany characters, hilarious elements, and compelling story and relationships. For the most part, the series holds up. Given a distance of a decade from the initial watch, I can say now, though, that I've noticed more definitively the downsides to this series STORY: 8 To me, this was one of the strong points for this anime to begin with. Once you get through the excessive amount of filler episodes, the overall story of building alliances, growing up, and finding one's place in the world still held my attention. The beginning still holds the space for doubt; I mean, the whole Japanese teenager being tr…

I LOVE THIS ANIME! It was so cute and adorable and just awwwwwww! This is the anime that I cried the most in! I love the action, the adventure, the comedy, everything about this anime is hilarious! It's great for the younger children even though I'm 17 and I felt like a little kid watching scooby doo in the mornings. This absolutely my most favorite anime in the adorable genre! I loved how it explained everything, there weren't a lot of cliff-hangers, it was a magical kind of anime

When the first episode involves our hero being sucked down a toilet into a magical world, it certainly sets up a tone. Lighthearted is the key-word for this series, as it aims to deliver a mix of comedy and fantasy-adventure, as well as a lovable cast of bishounens. Lighthearted is also the key-word for what makes the show good, but not great, more on that as I go along. The production-values are a mixed bag. The quality of the animation may vary from episode to episode as is often the case with longer running shows. At times the motion is fluid, while other times it cuts a few corners. Even with good animation though, it would not be saved from some lackluster directing, as the cinematography and design keeps everything very basic, never taking artistic risks to be more expressive. The…

When I first started watching this, I dropped it after 20 or so episodes? However 3 days ago (or was it 4?? Well Eitherway I marathoned it lol) I decided to pick it back up again and give it another chance. The art work is decent and watchable, very good to be honest for the year it was made. The music is decent, not really my style but still good nonetheless. The characters are amusing to watch as they grow throughout the series. I thoroughly enjoyed the little banters and the jokes. It does have mild shounen-Ai but nothing over the top. (If you can cope with a little cross dressing occasionally it's fine). As for the story. I do have to say it does have plot holes which annoyed me to no end. It was cliché and rather predictable. For me, there was no real plot twists and nothing surpr…

KKM is a show about relationships and heroics. It is about a boy that wanted a simple life as a teen playing baseball but was forced into being responsible for his nation by his heritage. Some of the running gags are related unrequited love. Forced proposal and of course forced gay characters chasing the main character. Let me explain. Wolfram and Gunter are gay and both want to be with Yurri. In this world these relationships are fully acceptable. Wolfram repesents the white knight creeper that has no reason to be over protective to Yurri. He stays around the main character even though his advances are shot down everytime. He wants to be with the most exotic important guy in his world and that happens to be yurri. This is the most annoying part of the show for me. Otherwise, the story…

THIS ANIME IS HILARIOUS. But seriously, if you came here after watching some intelligent things and hope to find a new anime to fulfill your epicness needs, you can leave now. This anime is dumb, seriously. But oh boy, I can't even tell how much had I enjoyed this whole thing. I started to watch Kyou Kara Maou simply because of some official pictures on Zerochan. It looked like that sort of "we're-not-shounen-ai-it's-just-happened-that-everyone-here-is-gay" animes, and of course there was wolfram who's a blond tsundere teen and I LOVE BLOND TSUNDERE TEENS. Believing this anime is going to be another of these try-too-hard too long fantasy animes, I invented a friend of mine to watch the first episode together. HE JUST FLUSHED DOWN THE TOILET OK. AND FIND HIMSELF IN PARALLEL UNIVERSE. The…

This is one of my favorite anime, I could watch it over and over again. Story (10) - The storyline wasn't always predictable to me, there are twists and turns to keep it interesting. I also like the mysterious aspect of the plot as well. There was depth to the plot, which made you want to keep watching to see what was going to happen next. I enjoyed the sword fighting and magic aspect as well. It wasn't done in a childish way, it seemed more mature to me. I really enjoy the plots that involve going to different worlds. Art (8) - The art style was enjoyable. I have seen better art, but I have also seen worse. I really have no complaints about the artwork. Characters (9) - I enjoyed all the characters. Yuuri irritated me once in awhile, but for the most part, all the the characters were…

Yuuri Shibooya is a 15 year old boy who was chosen by the 1st demon king (The Great One) from an alternate world to be the 27th demon king. The series is about Yuuri learning how to be a good Maoh while still keeping true to his kind and forgiving nature. Kyo Kara Maoh greatly exceeded my expectations. The plot moves along at a comfortable pace and doesn't completely leave you in the dark about the plot. Don't get me wrong, the later episodes often end in a cliffhanger and you'll always be left wanting more. But the story isn't too confusing and complicated things are eventually explained. What I didn't like was that it tended to be overly cheesy sometimes. I also wish we would've seen more of Yuuri's daily life on Earth and interactions with his family. The characters all phenomenal. Ea…

A quick note on the shounen-ai aspect of this series: (For those interested in watching Kyou Kara Maou! for the BL and those who hesitate because of it.) KKM does not truly fall on the BL spectrum. The series was meant to be highly slashable as a source of humor. Nonetheless, as always, if something offends you even in small degrees, just avoid it. My initial reaction was to label KKM as a sort of carefree-fantasy; not exactly slapstick, but quite a few steps away from serious, as well. But I quickly found out that it does have its serious moments; there are many scenes that are sad or heart-warming, even if they don’t evoke tears. I found myself cheering on multiple occasions. By the end, stuff had gotten real. I think the best thing about this series is its humor; even though it is a bi…

quick note here, why do people explain the plot? there is a synopsis for every anime. anyways, kyo kara maoh is actually really entertaining. I mean it has some strong yuri going on in some places but it isnt deep, its more of a relaxed kind of feel good anime, but with enough drama and plot to keep you interested all the way through. It can be very funny at times, and easily the characters are well liked. It has the medieval feel to it and its kind of interesting as the story goes on as present day mixes with this fantasy world. However, i would have to say that towards the end it gets incredibly stupid and unpredictable and frankly i didnt like the ending at all. But hey thats just me. And what would i know? I'm just a dumb canuck.

story-9 so i gave the story a nine because honestly i just think its a great plot! a boy from japan suddenly is transported to another world through a toilet. then he finds out that he has been choses to be the demon king of this alternat world! then he slaps a prince, which is actually a marige proposal in this world but 2 guys getting married is normal. then he continuously goes back and forth between worlds, living as a normal japanese boy in one world and as a demon king in another! really liked it! art-8 i did like the art but i have seen both better and worse. sound-8 really good but have heard a bit better. character-9 i just love how all the characters are different but yet really blend so well with the anime! for some reason wolfram has always been my favourite, dont no why. OK, Kyou Kara Maou is one of those long-run series that had really caught my attention since the first time watching. This is the case. I love classical things. So naturally, I also love the setting in this anime, which is some sort of a parallel world decorated like ancient Europe. The idea of 'this kid has some great powers which he's not even aware of' also matches me pretty well. Then again, I love this series. What do we have as a story? Basically this series is about how a normal teenage boy advance on becoming a king. Being a king isn't easy, duh? There are lots of conflicts going on and as a king, one should somehow find the best way to solve it. Yuuri Shibuya, as a character, is typical: a naive kid with a strong sense of justice and despises fighting so much. Actually, in this…
