Magi is a bit of a rollercoaster of an anime. At times it's a great fantasy story just brimming with exciting worlds and colorful characters, but then sometiimes it gets a bit off the rails. The story moves fast and can be hard to keep up with at times, later in the season they wade a little too deep into cookie cutter shounen territory, and then there's the random somewhat questionable fanservice peppered throughout (although it seems to get tamed down as the show goes on).
But despite it's flaws, at the heart of Magi is a solid fantasy/adventure anime that often reminded me of something classic like FMA or Hunter x Hunter. The action scenes for the most part deliver quite nicely, and I'm excited to watch the next season and hoping for something a little more refined.
7.5/10

I remember loving this when I first watched it. Rewatching it after my brain fully developed has really changed how I view it though. I forgot how much anti-war, anti-government, anti-oppression, and anti-racist sentiment there is. It's also so nice to see an anime that doesn't portray middle-eastern influences as "evil," like many other manga/anime has in the past.
The only (somewhat funny) downside is that you can really tell what the author is sexually into (aka, chests lollll). At least it isn't as bad as like fireforce or something like that. At least it's not fanservice for the sake of fanservice, but fanservice that fits the perverted characterization of the main character, making a bit more sense with the story rather than randomly just showing stuff.
I also wish there was a bi…

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic (2012) is an anime adopted from Shinobu Ohtaka’s manga. It's a fantasy, adventure anime which is inspired from Middle Eastern folktales. From the start it may seem like a lighthearted adventure, comedy series however it portrays some serious themes as the plot develops.
From the beginning we follow Aladin and Alibaba, who become friends as their journey begins. On their journey they come across Morgiana, a former slave who's struggling to accept her freedom. Together they decide to go on an adventure to conquer magical dungeons and obtain valuable objects, metal vessels and powerful djinns.
The narrative of the show is captivating and engaging. The combination of adventure, comedy and fantasy is entertaining. However the anime also deals with some dark topic…

This show has a really sentimental place in my heart because it was one of the first animes that I’ve ever watched and was one of the first ones I was really obsessed with. Revisiting it over 10 years later I’ve realized how shocking and strange a lot of the sexual content was that completely either flew over my head or I just thought was strange but permissible when I was a preteen. I don’t even believe that a lot of it was fanservice, but I really don’t understand why the very young characters were walking into brothels (then getting assaulted! wtf?) Or a 10 year old having a significant character trait of groping women? If someone is able to overlook a lot of the poorly aged and uncomfortable and inappropriate sexual occurrences, this is a very lovely series to watch. Most of the charac…

THIS IS A SPOILER-FREE REVIEW
The shounen genre has always been a pleasure to get into again and again. Although there are clear differences in quality, i think if you look at the big shounen shows, you can see the consistent formula being used to top the popularity polls of every single season. Magi is another shounen that has been on my radar for a long time. So, what does this shounen do different than all of the others? What is it that makes Magi unique and interesting? Let´s get into it.
Story – 9/10
This is by far the best aspect of this series, and the reason i think more people should get into this show. First of, the worldbuilding. The setting is really interesting and diverse. The whole mythology is clearly inspired by the persian 1001 nights, centred around jinns, emirs, thie…

The first season of Magi was a good watch, and overall a typical Shounen anime. I watched the first 13 episodes in 2015, and finished the last 12 just now, however, I still remember quite a bit of the first half.
The story is overall quite simple, and focuses on the cast of characters bonding and becoming a team. I feel as if the development of the characters, though, was somewhat rushed at points, or just not focused on enough, however, this may be solved with Season 2. The main 2 characters, Aladdin and Alibaba, don't have much development throughout the 25 episodes, and when they do, it is very minor or very stereotypical (recovering from a loss, realizing you're more powerful with allies, etc). The Tritagonist, Morgiana, has better development, showing her growth from a slave at the…

Underrated gem. I have not seen a lot of Arabic/Southasian representation in anime, so this was great...aside from the fact they whitewashed all the characters. However, the worldbuilding was stunning, and incredibly creative - I can't compare it to any other anime I've seen before. The philosophy tidbits of the show are a somewhat lacking, but it's understandably so, when it's aimed towards a younger audience. Magi also thinks tit jokes are hilarious for some reason, so I was a bit taken aback whenever those jokes were mentioned.
The manga itself was definitely more detailed, but its ending dragged out for far too long.

Shonen animes on the outside always contain the same formula and honestly if you've watched one it feels like you can tell the direction of the story for everyone. For Magi that is not the case, with the mysteries of the magi and the future world of the Sinbad anime, this show had potential and succeeded with flying colors. For me I could really feel the emotions the main cast went through, their hardships were interesting and the tremendous growth they had was enjoyable to witness. Besides that the story and world-building were top-notch, as someone who hasn't completed the whole Sinbad anime I can honestly say that you don't need to know any of the events in the original as this show builds upon itself. Overall watching this anime is 100% not a waste of time as you are transported into a…

wait can i ask something. why is literally every single person that has more than 2 lines have white colored skin WHILST literally anyone else is brown. Like why cant the main characters be brown, i feel like literally every single piece of media out rn does this. like the main characters will have blue/pink/gold/green hair and outlandish designs that dont look like middle eastern attire that much. every single portrayal of alladin has brown skin but this one is white like why???. i mean im not trying to be racist but like middle eastern culture doesnt get enough representation like other culters do. it just feels like theirs not enough research done, for e.g. i can clearly see there being mosques in the bg but there seems to be no mention of islam or people wearing islamic attire or prayi…

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic had the potential to be a great anime, but it was held back by poor character development (especially on the part of Alibaba) and staggered pacing.
The show starts off great, leaving viewers with a warm feeling in their stomachs. But things start veering dangerously downhill with the introduction of Alibaba. Now, don't get me wrong. When Alibaba is first introduced, he seems like a great foil to Aladdin. He initially comes across as intelligent, funny, and charismatic... with a hint of something greater underneath. Unfortunately, none of this is ever truly explored. Instead, the show characterizes Alibaba in an entirely shallow and superficial way. In one instance, he'll risk his life to save the life of someone less fortunate. Then, five minutes later, he'll…

*This is my first review ever so I apologize in advance if it's not as organized as you would expect*
I don't know how to start this review other than by saying that Magi is great! It's absolutely everything a fantasy genre lover like me was looking for in an anime, and I genuinely haven't been this entertained in a long time. However, from a weird pacing to an awful ending, not everything is as good as I hoped for, and a few promises this rather amazing anime made were left unanswered.
I want to start off by saying all the things I liked the most, and then what I liked the least.
What I liked:
-Interesting, unique and captivating world building
-Great concept with amazing magic and fighting styles
-Lovable and believable characters
-Great balance between light-hearted comedy and seriou…

[Short Review]
#Pros
1) At first i didnt expect much about the graphics because its in mid 2010-2020 anyways but darn.. i was wrong, the graphics is kinda smooth and so well saturated.
2) The sounds is also very well executed. Everything is balanced as its should be. Especially when it comes to echoed sound
3) The story is kinda interesting at first, i enjoyed the Adventure of Aladdin in the first 1-10
#Cons
1) The animation is now kinda like generic most Anime. In Sinbad version, there's some in-between frames and the animation is kinda smooth but this one is just a little downgrade
2) The story becomes too political wich i think there's should be some balanced scenes. Its like Log Horizon but still easy to enjoy.
#Overall

Magi has to be one of the most unique shounen anime out there. I've seen many anime fans recommending this show, talking about how amazing it was. So.... I gave it a go. And let's just say it easily became my favorite.
Story (9/10) Giving the show an Arabian setting was one of its unique aspects that drew me in. The three main characters, Alibaba, Aladdin, and Morgiana, travel along the continent to encounter many war outbreaks and political hindrances. Of course there has to be some sort of evil counterpart to the main party, but it doesn't seem dull at all. I love how insightful every plot point of this show (which includes character backgrounds, history of its nations, etc. ), and everything seems to be all connected to each other.
Art (8.9/10) There were some awkward scenes especial…

If you are looking for an adventure anime with magic, plot twists and intricately written characters, this is just the thing for you. I was on an anime hiatus about a year ago but Magi was the anime that made me come back ready for more.
The characters in this show are written nuanced to your typical anime protags. We meet characters along the way that have good influence on the plot and are worth spending time with and supporting characters that are worth analyzing. Our main character, Aladdin is a little magi with strong powers and a strong friend. He meets a greedy but loyal friend named Alibaba who in the future has ambitious goals. Along the way we meet characters and the more we see them, the more emotionally connected we get to them.
The visuals in this show does not let me down a…

I can say I enjoyed this anime so much, it's my favorite one.
the storyline is 9\0 - super interesting and rich, when I first started watching magi I couldn't stop. I just binged the whole season and not even once got bored of it.
the art is 10\10 beautiful and fun to watch, there are so many details in the clothing and style, it's all very unique.
characters are 10\10 - reflect a lot of real feelings and have lots of personalities.
I love how you can feel their story and points of view.
Sinbad is the best character of all, in my opinion, its so sad to say but very underrated as well.
general score: 10/10 for me
would recommend this anime to anyone

well, this series did incite me with all those Arabian night references, and the sweet promises of dungeon exploration and lot's of cool magic, but seem it soon devolved into another "battle shounen" aah well at least it had some politics in the background that kept me interested but other than that I can't say I enjoyed much here, the characters were ehh except Morgana, who was a cool female mc for a change.
also, the battles were meh, too much sword fighting for a show about magic, and I don't even wanna talk about those powerups, and then when the magic was used in battles it didn't feel that interesting.
oh yeah, the animation was kinda not that good and the pacing felt off in most episodes.

I have seen plenty of anime due to this my level of expectation has gone up. I can no longer enjoy something which doesn't make sense. After trying this over praised anime Magi, I am seriously left disappointed, it started good but soon converted into another generic show.
My problem with Magi is that it doesn't know what it is doing, let me give you little summary.
Just like every other anime, main protagonist has some sad back story. in this case the protagonist's father is king, but he suddenly dies, due to this the entire kingdom has fallen into the hands of his evil big brother, now everything rest on this kid's shoulders. He is willing to do everything to save his country, but he lacks faith which will be fixed with some lectures and betrayal.
After some serious struggle and a sma…

characters: Don't actually like them that much, there your generic characters that want to save people in a nutshell even when its not needed which makes for over saturated type hero characters which i find myself find hard to get attached to. [kassim was a pretty good character since he was idealistic and if not for alibaba being a MC then alibaba would have ultimately failed] (6/10)
Art: nothing to special, but for its time it was very fluent and nice (9/10)
story: Its set in a ancient period of time and has interesting concepts like d'jinns and dungeons. (8/10)
sound: the openings aside from opening 1 are straight ass and the soundtracks aren't that memorable but they do there job (7/10)
overall: the only complaint i have is that the characters are to hero-ish but take how you will,…

I first began this anime sometime in 2018 or 2019, but I was a newbie to anime watching and I couldn't understand something like Magi. So I stopped after the first episode. Now, I picked the series back up, and honestly, I loved it a lot. There are many connections to real life, in location and thought processes.
Behind the exterior of a great Arabian Nights themed adventure with djinns and magic, characters with names similar to those stories, there's also a whole deeper meaning... or so I think. There are many countries in the world of Magi, such as the Leam/Reim Empire, Kou Empire, Sindria, Balbadd, etc, which are all governed differently. Not to count the various small communities and villages that are visited. Each of these empires has their own way of governing and thinking, all of…

Magi is an amazing concept, the anime is based on politics and I can't think of many anime that follow a similar concept to magi, but how it was executed? That's a whole other story
Story: 6/10, like I said magi is an amazing and unique concept but unfortunately it turns out to be your run of the mill shounen anime at some points and the story gets quite repetitive, I can't go into detail so I don't spoil it for anyone
Animation: 7/10, fight scenes are really well done and fast paced, the animation is pretty good overall and I love it
Sound: 8/10, I watched it in dub and honestly the dub is surprisingly good, and the openings and endings are some of the best I have ever heard and the ost is real good as well
Characters: 3/10,so here is where it gets bad, alibaba is a trash mc with 2 pe…
