I’m writing this review after watching all four seasons, and I have to say just how incredible this anime is.
First of all, I want to make one thing very clear: THE MAIN FOCUS OF THIS ANIME IS NOT ACTION, BUT COMEDY AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FRIENDSHIPS AND RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS. It is very common to see people criticize this series without even understanding what its actual focus is, and I think that is a huge mistake. Of course, there are action scenes and fights, but that is simply not what the series is mainly trying to deliver.
As for the story, in short, Iruma is an ordinary human who ends up in the Netherworld and is adopted as the grandson of one of the most powerful demons in the world. Since he can no longer return to the human world, he has to start living a no…

8.5/10 (S1-S4)
Demon School Iruma-kun is a cliche, if not enjoyable turn your brain off fantasy about a young boy rising to extraordinary circumstances. Rather than striving for innovation, Iruma’s plot is very paint by the numbers. There are various tropes present in this type of story one can come to expect: a happy-go-lucky hero changing the system, “tournament” arcs, the power of friendship, wacky antics, contrived power ups, etc.
Yet where Iruma-kun works well is its ability to balance its large cast of characters with its overarching story themes. Not only is the supporting cast fun and colorful, but none of them feel like archetypes and are reasonably fleshed out. There are also several intriguing mysteries, fun lore, and a plethora of fuzzy subplots throughout. Its pacing is rea…

This is everything I needed from a show. I could watch it over and over again and never get bored. All of the characters are quite complex and get a lot of screen time, so this way we get to know each member of the class and I absolutely adore how it is done, you basically can just watch them interacting with each other and it would be more then enough, it is so fun and it continues like that throughout the following series and it is simply perfect. The soundtrack is amazing, both opening and ending are insanely addictive. It mixes many genres in a way it's simply perfect, it is objectively very funny 10/10 anime!

This entire series is like a warm hug. It's basically FRIENDSHIP distilled. It's light-hearted and wholesome, but not vacuous. It's ridiculously random, but cohesive in the long run. And it's FUNNY. Like seriously. The most similar anime I can compare it to would probably be KonoSuba, but with a far wider range of characters.
Like most people, I initially put off watching this because the premise seems weird and the animation isn't the best. It also sounded like yet another isekai. But after just a couple of episodes, it had totally won me over.
What really sets it apart are the characters. They're all wacky in some way or another. All their misadventures are also consistently into developing one character or another. So as the series progresses you get to know everyone better and bette…

Mairimashita! Iruma-kun is a fun, well produced Isekai that will be very appealing for a lot of people, especially a younger audience. Although it starts out great, it fails to keep this up around half way and lets itself down in the second half.
Story - 5/10
The plot starts like what you would expect of an average Isekai; a human teenage boy, Iruma, gets transported into a different world, and being sold to a demon. Unexpectedly he gets treated nice and lives as the demon's grandson, attending a demon school which he runs. It's slightly different setting which is nice compared to just a magical world, and overall portrays the demon setting pretty well. The pacing is good until the "Battler / Kirio arc" which dragged on for over 7 episodes leaving the second half feeling like nothing had…

This is easily in my top 5 animes ever, particularly this 1st season of the show. The other seasons have been great, but the first season hits the best.
I love animation that is colorful and cute, and a balance of action, comedy, and (some) drama. If all of these things also appeal to you highly, you'll love this show.
Demon School Iruma-kun is one of the most colorful anime shows out there, very saturated visuals that pop like candy. Iruma is a bright and cheery character that you want to root for, and that kindness draws others to him, including his newfound friends Asmodeus who Iruma bests in a conflict and vows to serve Iruma as a friend and as a fan of his; and Clara who is hyperactive and absent-minded and nonsensical, but very cute and fun, her playful nature is both parts excessi…

I watched this series between 21 January and 29 January 2026. Just one episode was enough to make me watch the whole series. In my opinion, this is an isekai type Shonen anime with comedy, fantasy, and supernatural elements.
Story: This show is very wholesome. Iruma is such an innocent and lovable character that he easily wins your heart. There is no unnecessary fanservice or toxic rival behavior. Instead, Iruma uses his kindness to turn even his enemies into friends.
Overall, I liked this anime. I give it 8 out of 10. I also recommend that if you have not watched it yet, you should definitely give it a try.
Content Type: Anime
Genre: Shonen, Isekai, Comedy, Fantasy, Supernatural
Writer/Director: Based on the manga written and illustrated by Osamu Nishi. Directed by Makoto Moriwaki. Ser…

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun is one of the best examples I’ve seen of how established character traits and world-building can be used effectively in a slice-of-life fantasy story. What makes it especially remarkable is how deeply human the cast feels, despite the running joke that they are all demons.
The premise itself isn’t particularly original, but the execution is where the series truly shines. The story feels both unique and thoughtfully crafted. Iruma gives off the vibes of a classic shōnen protagonist: kind-hearted, deeply empathetic, and guided by a strong sense of justice and fairness. His defining trait, working harder than anyone else, is used very cleverly. Rather than simply empowering him to overcome obstacles through sheer strength, the story places him in situations…

Personal stats: as of Aug 2025, I've finished 184 anime with a mean score of 7.33.
Iruma-kun (Season 1) score: 8/10.
There are countless anime that rely on action, fanservice, or strategy to draw in viewers. Many shows in the last decade have also leaned heavily into formulas - whether it’s focusing on animation spectacle, comedy gimmicks, or surrounding the main character with a harem to appeal to a specific audience. Because of that, it can feel rare to find something that feels genuinely different.
Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun (2019, 23 episodes) is one of those rare shows. It doesn’t rely on harems, it has only a few central female characters, and it doesn’t try to force itself into being an action-heavy or overly dramatic series. Instead, it blends comedy, fantasy, and lighthe…

I remember watching and enjoying this anime while it was still airing so I was really surprised that I didn’t have a review posted in here yet! It turns out that I was still on hiatus at that time, lol. But it was really a shame not to share this anime to the world because it’s pretty entertaining!
That said, I decided to rewatch this anime so I could hopefully provide a somewhat acceptable review, lol. Please read along!
OPENING & ENDING THEMES + SONGS
I have to say that I absolutely love both the opening and ending themes! I love that it was colorful and features distinct characters that makes me look forward to meeting them. I absolutely love the song too, everytime it plays, I always find myself singing along. I love that it was so catchy which suits the opening theme really well.

Sometime in 2022 or 2023 I happened upon this show. I didn’t go into the show expecting much. As soon as I finished this show, I went scouring for more. It was one of the first shows that had me wanting to read its source manga because I couldn’t wait for the next season of anime to air. I gobbled up every chapter before I realized I had done so. This show, and this story is lots of fun. It’s not the aesthetically complicated show, but within it lies light hearted comedy, unexpected twists/subversions at every corner, and a whole lot of inner turmoil. This show is my MHA, and if you enjoyed MHA in any capacity I’d like to think you’d enjoy this show.
Additional thoughts
This show prospers in its simplicity especially within the animation & art. The manga art has gorgeous panels that is ju…

From the very first episode of season one to the latest episode (as of January 19, 2025), Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun has consistently held my attention. One of the aspects I appreciate most is that the main character (MC) is not overpowered from the outset. Instead, he relies on the support of his friends and the guidance of his adoptive grandfather. This approach allows the MC to gain the trust and affection of those around him through acts of kindness, standing up for others, and often putting himself at great risk.
Despite being one of the more timid characters in the series, the MC's determination to improve himself daily is commendable. His growth is driven by his desire to stay close to his friends, which adds a heartfelt dimension to the narrative.
The animation quality, w…

On the surface, 'Mairimashita! Iruma-kun' looks like a generic isekai with a not-so-generic setting. A pushover main character given powers he didn't work for and sent into another world where he is immediately surrounded by friends? How could that be any good? Well, the reason is because it wants you to think that and let your guard down. What lies underneath a generic exterior is an excellent execution of tropes you've written off.
For one, Iruma isn't just some annoying pushover - he makes an effort to better himself since he knows how pathetic he is. The difference with him is that he's been dealt a bad hand but is an amazing person that you yourself would want by your side, unlike most generic main characters. You end up cheering for him because you see the positive impact he has on…

Starts off very promising.
Its a fun anime about a very unfortunate kid with the worse parents.
They sold their son to a demon. This demon made him his grandson, and now he's attending demon school.
And due to mishaps after mishaps ends up becoming the most popular student there.
The anime is full of manufactured differences between the human and demon world. Where words like "friend", "date", and "fireworks" dont exist but pretty much every other word does. The demon world knows what gunpowder is but doesnt know fireworks...Its very selective. Whatever is needs for the plot.
Some episodes do start to drag on for some of the most basic plots. Like an episode dedicated to the main character learning how to catch a dodgeball. And a carnival plot that goes on for way too long.
The numb…

Not your average highschool / Isekai anime, Whatever you think to expect is probably wrong. It's god wholesome fun with found family, friendships, mystery and more. Expect the unexpected even if you think you know what's going to happen it still may not happen quite how you expect - It's all about the journey more then the destination with this one.
But it's not all fun and games all the time and knows how and when to be series. A large colourful cast of characters that are nearly unforgettable. Over all a series you shouldn't skip over, seeing is believing and you simply can't judge with out watching first.

I was initially skeptical about this anime, but it surpassed my expectations. I haven't laughed this much in a long time. It's truly one of the best anime experiences.
All the characters in this anime are just so likable, and that's what makes every little thing in the story interesting and memorable. It's the characters that make this anime special.
While the story may not be entirely unique, the time invested in this anime was far from wasted. It serves as the perfect remedy after a long day — if you're seeking laughter, this anime delivers precisely that. Despite the familiar narrative, the enjoyment it brings makes it a worthwhile watch for relaxation and amusement.

***Attention: I watched this show dubbed for reasons I will elaborate on***
I dunno; if you like the run-of-the-mill anime you can put on while doing something else, I recommend this show. I tried my hardest to get into it in the beginning and watch it, but just due to the nature of the anime, it is not something I could put all of my attention into. This show became the show that I would put on while making dinner, doing my hair, cleaning my apartment, etc. It is a really good show to do other things because, unlike so many other animes, you don't have to pay all your attention to it to comprehend the premise. It also reminds me of Western animated shows in the sense that you can put on a random episode and still get the premise because a lot of what occurs during each episode is not a c…

This was a real treat. I didn't know what I was getting into, but I'm really glad it worked out.
The cast was put together really well, I love the dub acting. The compliment of Alice to Clara was a perfect yin to yang. I think it's impossible to not love Clara, even though you may not be able to stand her, there's enough to love. She's super child like, but a fun addition that was really necessary.
There were options presented for a potential harem and the show never went there.I was truly jonesing for Ameri and I don't know how you couldn't. Speaking of her, I have a new waifu!
Now the part that disappointed me and brought the score down from a 9 to an 8. Everything through the first 18 episodes was amazing. It really just sold itself. That being said, from 19 to 23, I was so totally…

Do you just randomly want to throw something on, but dont want to sit and actively try and figure out the deeper level of meanings of each dialogue exchange, or hidden meaning of an insincere smile. Season 1 might do the trick for you
Although I started watching this due to a crunchyroll suggestion, I was quite surprised on how much I liked it. Not because of any overpowered fighting scenes, intense showdowns of guts or determination, amazing arcs or even romanticisms, just because its actually funny.
Season 1 had me snickering that passed my understanding of why. I think it was just some of the jokes were just so unexpected that it got me.
Dont expect any major plot developments with the show, just enjoy an episode as is. Most episodes are not connected directly other than character i…

Don't be fooled by the sub-8* rating.. this anime is one of the best comedies ever aired so far.
Funny and interesting characters that actually HAVE a character (every..single..one..), plot that actually makes sense and goes on, and clean animations & narrative. The art in the manga is already good and the animation & sound teams did a great job bringing it to life!
I can't recommend it enough to both adults and teens -- enjoy watching 😁
(this is where I wanted to stop my review but apparently I gotta go on.. If you're not convinced yet feel free to keep reading :p)
The story itself is a unique twist of the standard high school comedy genre, with a good level of involvement from the Isekai genre, in which the main drive is our protagonist being some sort of 'impostor' and trying to…
