Makura no Danshi has a very specific aim (being a relaxation or sleep aid) and a very specific target audience. The format itself acts as a filter; if you're not someone who can get over that, just don't watch it.
The variety of characters is decent. If you're into men, you'll probably find at least one of them will appeal to you. Most of the characters are just archetypes, but there isn't any time or need for them to be more complex, given the show's incredibly short runtime. I found some of them charming or entertaining for the short while they were there.
Makura no Danshi is meant to be a sleep aid. I don't think I could actually fall alseep to it, but I could imagine someone using it as a way to relax before bed.
Overall, Makura no Danshi is fine. The show isn't long enough for it…

I suddenly remembered this show after watching it in 2020 and got so angry about it I had to write a review.
The concept of this show is very silly and very catered to lonely people who want a relationship with attractive anime boys (so basically me in 2020). However, this show is completely RUINED for me when one of the "boyfriends" in the episode is A LITERAL 5 YEAR OLD. I kinda just skipped that episode back when I first watched this show and laughed about it being weird but now as an adult I'm just utterly disgusted. If I'm remembering correctly I believe they also describe him as "the sexy 5-year old" as well. Hey guys! That combination of words should never exist ever!
Anyways, show is fine minus that episode but for me it's honestly so egregious I cannot possibly enjoy the show at…

I don't know why but I had high expectations of this one and it kinda just disappointed. Really short episodes for one, like 5m each. Quite superficial exploration of whatever it was trying to explore (yaoi, ecchi, fetishes). Only mildly kinky yet with questionable subjects in some of the episodes (though I REALLY enjoeyed the twins! Teehee). I'm glad I have it ticked under watched but I didn't feel like I gained anything from watching it... Gave it a 4 because at least it made me think: what would my type be? Do I even have a type? The art style is also horribly mediocre compared to most animes.

I remember watching this as a joke back then. But I feel as it predicted something.
Like this reminds me a lot of ASMR stuff and a lot of things where the viewer loves to interact with the "character". Like the ai character chats? But less interactive.
I am not really diggin the character designs but I don't think they are bad. Just not my style.
I would recommend it for the lolz and funzies, or just to try new things to see that thewre really is all kind of animes.
It's like Dora the explorer for fangirls who like hot guys. If that makes you happy there's no shame in it.

It took me a ton of breaks to finish this harrassment anime, and now that i've finished it, i can finally say how awful this is.
The main point of this anime is basically that you have boys talking to you while you're supposed to be sleeping? It's very confusing, and I honestly don't know why the creator of this anime wanted to make this. I don't know who is going to enjoy this, but I sure didn't.
The episodes are simple. It starts off with a preview, like the boy talking to you, then the 1 minute long intro which is absolutely ridiculous given the episodes are 4 minutes long, then you have a little picture showing the boy's name and his description, and then the guy starts talking to you. And for such a simple anime, how is it so bad??
First of all, the characters are creepy, weird, an…

This is hilarious, please watch it.
An absolutely bizarre show that is so uncanny, gratuitous, and over the top, while still being subdued enough to not go completely off the rails and still maintain some sense of cohesiveness.
I thought it was going to be pure fanservice but it's definitely tongue in cheek and parodies a lot of anime and otaku tropes. My favorite parts where when the anime boys directly made fun of it's audience.
The storytelling dropping you in the middle of 2-3 minute scenarios was more like watching some funny improv as opposed to being just boys talking you to as you sleep, which it really isn't at all. And i'm glad, because it ended up being very funny.

Loneliness is a funny thing, huh?
For pretty much as long as fiction has been around, people have found comfort in imagining themselves as the object of an imaginary, seemingly flawless character's desire. Many pop-culture phenomena exist for this very reason, actually: self-insert fanfictions, OCs, and most recently: first-person ASMR.
And that's where we get to Makura no Danshi, which in my opinion is not an anime, but rather a compilation of sleep aid ASMR audios accompanied by slideshows of pretty (?) anime boys.
Makura no Danshi doesn't have a story. Every episode simply places you - the first-person protagonist - in a supposedly relaxation-inducing scenario alongside an anime boy archetype of your choice.
This means whether or not you enjoy an episode relies 100% on whether or not…

where should i even start
i really don't know what the hell did I just watched but this anime is supposed to make you fall asleep beside an anime boy
now my review about this anime is
the art: tbh the art is fine so I give it a 6 or 7/10
and now I'm going to give my honest opinion about the episodes
ep1: episode 1 was the most cringy episode ever ep2: same as the first episode
ep3: I think this man was supposed to make me fall asleep by playing the violin
but no there isn't any violin sound in the first place
ep4: I really don't know how was this episode even supposed to make me fall asleep I was in my nap and he literally started talking to me
ep5:I am completely speechless about this episode
ep6:.....
ep7:I am starting to feel like a pedophile talking to this child
ep8: tbh not a…

Story (1/10)
There is no story.
Art (3/10)
This anime is supposed to be about ogling pretty anime boys, so why were all of the boys either creepy, weird, or outright ugly? Sound (3/10)
There is literally no music or background noise.
The voice actors put in far more effort than this dumpster fire deserves.
Character (1/10)
Each character gets about 2 minutes of screen time. Not exactly enough time to create deep characters.
Enjoyment (1/10)
The only reason I watched this train wreck was because people claimed it was "so bad it's good." The first episode did manage to simultaneously amuse and terrify me, but none of the other episodes contained any real entertainment value.
Overall (1/10)
Here is the character description for episode 7:
"Enokawa Haruto. A super energetic, hot…

So I watched this purely because I like watching random old anime and I like the not-pretty yet colorful style, and that already says a lot about what I looked for in this anime.
I'm a guy and to be honest it's always better for me if the characters fail to make it romantic between themselves and the viewers, making this more of a success than a failure. A lot of people mentioned the anime being "weird" and "creepy", which is what I call CURSED and that's beautiful.
The worst thing in this anime was me being misgendered but that's fine, I just felt bad for any girls who watched the twin episode 😭
I saw many people disliked the characters because they were all tropes. I didn't! Wouldn't you be sad if you only got to see a really cool and unique character for only 4 minutes? It's much b…

Since I watched and reviewed that trashy voyeuristic classic Sleeping With Hinako, I saw there was an anime about bishonen guys sleeping next to you so I watched it in the name of gender equality! Nah, I just wanted to see how garbage it was. Spoiler: it was pretty garbage.
This isn't really my cup of tea, so I wanted to watch it to see if it was ridiculous enough to make fun of, and it did get funny at times.
I hate the OP. First, it's too long and takes up 1 minute of the 4 minute episodes. Second, it's TOO LOUD. I actually fell asleep at the beginning of an episode and that stupid OP startled me awake.
There is no story. You just watch various guys talk for 3 minutes. There are a wide range of guys of varying degrees of creepiness, and I honestly thought some of them would molest me.…

I don't know how I feel about the art style itself its just kinda weird at some points I'm not really sure how to explain it. I'm not really a fan of the switching characters every episode thing, when I watch a show I want to get attached to the characters and know that I will see them again but the only reoccurring character is Merry who is in ep 1 and ep 12. The lack of background noise/sound can make it feel unnatural or uncomfortable (ex: lack of music in ep 3/no sound of tapping glass at the beginning of ep 8/lack of background chatter even though it's obvious there should be in ep 9) like I think this is supposed to be an asmr kinda thing but I've listened to asmr and this just doesn't execute it well, even the bad asmr that I've listened to normally has some noise or some kind of mu…

Ok, as a straight man I'm probably not the target audience but for whatever reason, I decided to watch it anyway. If you're actually someone who needs to pretend like you're sleeping with someone and are looking for an anime to give you that to give you an artificial taste of the human contact you so desperately crave, you're best off looking elsewhere. The art in this anime is strange, the characters have a tendency to stare into the camera for way too long and the mouth movements are just... weird. It's tough to describe, but to put it shortly, the art is bad. The dialogue delivery is weird, and they have 'conversations' with you as you'd see in a kid's show, rhetorical questions, and obviously pre-determined responses. It's awkward and does not at all work for its intended purpose.

It stays true to its purpose, which is to basically be an animated PG-13 otome CD you can find clips of in YouTube, so I expected the cringe attacks. There's absolutely no story at all. Each episode focuses on a different guy trope in a different setting/situation.
I wasn't planning on checking this out, but the reviews and the seiyuu cast piqued my curiosity (especially after learning that each episode is at 4 minutes maximum excluding the opening theme). I enjoyed it despite the cringe-fest mainly because watching this reminded me of how much I loved otome CDs back in the day. Also gave me a good laugh.
Art is okay, though I find it a bit ironic how this anime is supposed to help girls fall asleep but most of them look like they haven't slept for a whole day with the lines under their…

This is my first review, so I may not include everything.
Here is what pillow boys is:
Pillow boys or 'Makura no Danshi' is not your usual anime. It is interactive where you get to hear about the characters feeling and everyday lives. The character is talking to you. The aim of this anime is to make you go to sleep, as each boy has a calm voice/ relaxing voice. Not gonna lie, the voice acting was pretty decent, as well as the unique art style.
My overall thoughts:
Honestly, I didn't enjoy this anime, as I was easily disturbed and uncomfortable; I don't think that barely anyone watched this anime to enjoy--
First off, we are met with a 'hot 5 year old boy' and a food stall man (who looks slightly over aged and shows us a mark quite far down his body) which I think is pretty goddamn creepy…

The rating is entirely arbitrary. I can't rate this on a scale of any sort, and I'll explain why. This kind of story would fit better into greentext format, but we'll see.
I noticed the show as it was airing with like 2 episodes already up. Seemed pretty meme-worthy, so I watched it with a friend of mine at the time, we synced and talked over teamspeak, if I remember correctly. Lets call him Friend with a capital. Had some great fun watching those first few episodes. It was one of those shows that could only be fun with a friend. So I thought, but I was wrong. We once got together and watched the show with some other dudes, and we had a blast, but it just wasn't the same as when I enjoyed it with Friend. What confused me even more was that I could enjoy it more through teamspeak and all th…

Okaaaay…I like to experiment with anime and watch a variety of shows. This is my newest experiment. The title sounded so absurd, that I just had to watch it :D Apparently, the anime gets a lot of hate, and I think I can see why. The people who watch it are obviously not the viewers it was meant for, or just can’t appreciate a different kind of experience or understand why someone would like it. I am 50/50 on the whole thing. It’s very weird at times, but it’s also very cute and there are different types of guys in each episode that would fit a lot of different tastes. Including that of pedophiles apparently....It’s like a visual novel, but in anime format. In short, I don’t really see the problem with the anime. It’s funny, it’s cute, it’s awkward, it’s different. A big plus is the nice co…

Story: 2/10
The story only consists of "pretty" boys asking about your day and saying you look sad. Not much substance and each episode is pretty much a copy and paste of the previous with a different stereotype. Horrible story, if you can even call it that. (Also, there is a character you can sleep with that is described as a "hot five-year old". I think I've been placed on some sort of FBI watch list)
Art: 3/10
There are various mistakes in anatomy, which is kinda normal for anime, but this was too noticeable. The characters had yaoi lips, but the hands were too small to match so I was unsure of what look they were going for. The foreshortening used in these episodes was poorly done, as the limbs closest to the screen looked too small. The animation is almost nonexistent, as much of t…

The idea of falling asleep next to someone is an appealing idea, especially if they're someone who you're interested in, and I can see how a series like Pillow Boys (Makura no Danshi) could appeal to someone. And since every episode features a different guy who talks to you, you've got some variety to choose from. You've got everything from a high school student who acts tough, but is frightened by spiders, to a mature working man, and it's even got twins, which is a bit weird, but OK, sure, whatever.
You don't really spend much time with any of them, considering that the already short OP takes up a giant chunk of an "episode", which is only 4 minutes long, but before any of the guys can even talk, the credits are already playing over the episode. That's how short each episode is. Maybe m…

day 8234709 of being single: watches makura no danshi
makura no danshi pros:
- a quick + easy watch for when you want to laugh and cry
- not your typical horror movie but will horrify you all the same
- the voice actors are alright, even if there’s not a huge amount of emotion in their voices
- i guess it’s making up for the lack of fanservice tailored towards girls
- a variety of characters (they have little actual personality but it’s to be expected with such short episodes)
- unique :// hairstyles
- character of ep11 recognises he is a disgrace with “i am the king of kings of creepy guys!”
makura no danshi cons:
- op takes up around 1/4 of a 4min episode
- the characters never blink it’s horrific
- there’s something weird about the art, it’s just a lil unnerving
- a lot of each epis…
