Mieruko-Chan wasn't what I was expecting in that I entirely disagree with MAL's categorization of it as a comedy. This anime isn't funny and I don't think it's even trying to be. I think saying it doesn't take itself overly seriously most of the time and has a generally lighthearted tone while still retaining horror elements is much, much more applicable and I think knowing that beforehand rather than coming into it thinking you're about to watch horror-themed Konosuba or Ouran High School Host Club will lead to a better experience.
That aside, there's an overall decent show here. It's a modern anime and looks wonderful, its opening and ending songs are quite catchy and memorable even if they aren't necessarily "good" and it's well-acted by a team of professionals.
Beyond the aesthetics,…

Started watching on a rainy day and finished months later on another, Mieruko-chan fits a gloomy atmosphere perfectly. The core premise is genuinely unique and fun: a high school girl who suddenly begins seeing horrific, grotesque ghosts and must force herself to completely ignore them to survive her daily life.
Pros: The sound design is easily the strongest aspect of the adaptation. The eerie whispers, grotesque snapping noises, and unsettling background audio build a genuinely solid horror atmosphere, elevated by Sora Amamiya's fantastic voice performance as Miko.
Cons: Studio Passione heavily relied on unnecessary early fanservice, which felt out of place for a psychological horror series. The side characters also lack depth—Hana is mostly reduced to a one-dimensional eating gag, and…

Mieruko chan could be something better. It gets a bit boring because it’s pretty much the same thing almost every episode, she sees spirits, mostly evil, and does her best to avid looking at them, because if they know she sees them they will attack her. That’s pretty much every episode, although there are some slice of life things happening. She has a bubbly (in more than one way) friend who is always hungry and a creepy younger brother who goes into her bedroom while she is asleep. There is no explanation as to why she suddenly became able to see these spirits. Nor is there any sort of resolution or a way for her to either protect herself and her friends or destroy these spirits. Though there was a person who might have been able to help her, but that person suddenly retired after meeting…

I'm a few weeks late to reviewing this series, but in honor of it being October, I have yet to watch an anime that embodies the middle ground of "spooky season" and "pumpkin spice" vibes as this. Take that for what you will.
Mieruko-chan follows Miko, a high-school girl who suddenly finds herself able to see spirits, and in accordance with various Japanese beliefs and folklore, chooses to ignore them with her best poker face. Being forced to carry on with her daily life - family, friends, school, et cetera - she often finds herself blindsided and forced to be creative, otherwise facing a negative reaction or even danger.
Now, this is the first true horror-comedy anime I can remember seeing, and it manages both fairly effectively. For one, the concept is kind of genius, using a "Sixth Sen…

"Mieruko-chan? More like, MIDruko-chan"
There's a certain scene in episode 9 where a character eats yakisoba bread with chocolate chips, then complains that it doesn't work, as the different flavors overpower each other. Mieruko-chan is that bread.
The anime tries to mix horror, ecchi, comedy, slice-of-life, a bit of action, a bit of drama and heartfelt moments. Some of them work well on their own... but their flavors overpower one another. So, in the end, Mieruko-chan never reaches the full potential of them.
Outside of a few jumpscares, it isn't really that good of horror, likely because of the worse art quality from the anime when compared to the manga: That level of detail and artstyle contrast is needed for that, and you can't do that on most anime. Granted, when the anime did break…

This anime was so good, the whole plot with the cats totally surprised me and that scene at the end of the last episode.
It was like, damn, now I have to read the manga! I was thinking about it anyways but still. I can't wait to see if that gets expanded on.
The ghosts were really interesting, I like how it leaves a lot to the imagination but I'm also really curious about why the ghosts work the way they do. Like the axe ghost, what the heck was he doing? Was he even a ghost?
I'll be running to the manga so fast. It's been a few years since this came out but maybe we'll get a second season some day. I'll keep my fingers crossed for it.
EDIT: I started reading the manga because I was dying to find out what happened next. I started it from the beginning and read through the stuff I'd a…

A nice fun little show. There isn’t actually that much to talk about because generally every episode does kind of play out similarly, but in the second half it really comes into its own. My main gripe with this show would probably be just that the spirits aren’t scary enough. Most of them end up looking very similar to one another and their behaviors aren’t sporadic enough to warrant any unsettling feelings. Now obviously this is a comedy show so maybe this is intentional but it does end up limiting its potential a little because they’re the primary focus. Additionally, mainly for the first half, the spirits don’t pose significant enough threat to make them worthy of fear. Miko is certainly afraid of them, as would most people, but because they don’t demonstrate any dangerous behavior beyo…

Mieruko-Chan is a fine anime, paced well with a lighthearted tone juxtaposed with dread as our MC Miko, tries to figure out how to live life with her family and friends even though she’s a psychic who can see supernatural beings, particularly ghosts. Even though I liked this anime, I left empty rather than satisfied, it seemed that every episode was just dedicated to a day in the life of Miko seeing these ghosts. The anime starts and ends with little to no change. There were many chances for the story to take a turn with the old woman psychic or Mikos new friend Yuria, the temple gods, or the teacher but the anime just keeps down this linear path of exploring Mikos life and doesn’t take any interesting turn to further pull in the viewer to its story. This is a casual watch for me, I highly…

There are funny moments, so the comedy tag checks out. There are scary monsters too, so horror fits as well—but where’s the story? Honestly, I wanted to give this anime a 7 or even 8, but the lack of any meaningful story development really holds it back. You keep watching episode after episode thinking something big will happen, but there’s so little progression that it feels like nothing changes. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the main character has to become some super exorcist by the end, but come on—something more should’ve happened.
Story-wise, the anime is seriously lacking. But aside from that, it’s not bad at all. There’s some fanservice, the art style is solid, and it can be enjoyable for what it is.
Would I recommend it? It’s tough. If you care about story development,…

I'm just going to jump into the good and bad with this show. Let's start with the good.
- MC isn't an anime trope. She actually has a unique personality and mannerism that make it difficult to add the word "dere" to. She's kind of an everyman (or in this case woman). I like it.
- Some of the episodic stories presented are decent enough that I wish the author expanded on it.
- Even though I had issues with it, it wasn't boring while watching it and kept me engaged.
- The art of the ghosts was excellent and really helped sell the show. Okay now the bad.
- The stories generally come in 1 of 2 flavours. You have the story of the MC seeing a ghost, fearing said ghost and getting away from said ghost or you have a MC seeing ghost, ghost wants something, ghost achieves what it wants, ghost…

Girl With The Poker Face
It is an interesting premise, but I don't know if it's meant to be a comedy or actually scary, because most of the time it feels like I'm supposed to laugh at what is happening.
The first half of the show feels like the same joke over and over and over and, it does become tiring after a while. And how overly sexual everything is in the first episode is so funny. Luckily the show picks up halfway through and becomes way more entertaining.
I will say I really enjoyed the main characters friendship with the bimbo character and a little pigtail grill character.
The main characters composed demeanor beside the bimbo, brings the best forward.
The character design looks good and horrifying ghost even more. Animation is not bad. The production is just all around reall…

Mieruko-chan is a comedic-slice of life series with hints of horror, al though having "creatures" all over the place it is more focused precisely on 3 main characters, the protagonist and friends. Each episode brings the constant struggle the protagonist has to deal with while keeping the ability to perceive such monsters a secret. Some circumstances are wholesome and get very deep in lore regarding certain characters. Many of the interactions and situations are funny, making it less heavy for people who might want to enjoy soft horror, to put it into perspective.
The opening doesn't has heavy visual spoilers which is good if you like you enjoy it or are having a bad time skipping. It is more a symbolic visual. The ending on the other hand, does have spoilers from characters or details…

This does so much so well I'd love to rate it even higher, but yet again a good anime has been let down by a uncomfortable horniness.
The progression of the story and word building is great, new elements are introduced and then left to breathe without explaining them by the end of that episode, or incorporating them in the next. This means the direction of things isn't so obvious as other shows, and you get to think about elements to yourself as the show progresses, wondering if they'll be the answer to later problems.
Instead of giving the protagonist a sensei to explain how everything works, or easy one episode arcs that fully flesh an idea out, you are just as unsure about the rules, characters and motivations as the protagonist. The line between 'good' and 'evil' characters/entities…

Unfortunately, this was pretty disappointing. Personally, I thought the synopsis was very intriguing. Having just finished it a few minutes ago, it wasn't /really/ worth it.
Right off the bat, the excessive fanservice almost put me off immediately, but I decided to continue because I don't like dropping any form of media without seeing it through to the end. It was a little slow to start, but as the episodes continued it did get better. There was... some development of the characters, but they definitely could've used a little more. The pace definitely picked up towards the end of the season (the last four or five episodes, specifically), but when a season is only 12 episodes long, there needs to be more excitement in the initial episodes.
Some highlights, though: the ghost designs were…

First of all, I would like to make it clear that I am 40 years old and perhaps someone younger might have a different opinion.
I didn't like it, I don't recommend it. The anime is very weak, the script is nonsensical and doesn't explain anything that happens in the plot.
Until now, I don't know what led me to watch this anime on Crunchyroll.
I don't know if the story is unique and although I like the genre, I didn't like the anime.
The art style isn't the best I've ever seen, however, it fits the story.
The characters are completely incomplete, full of flaws and they weren't strong at all. The main character is the worst of all the characters that appear...

A relaxing anime with a little bit actions in between..alot of fillers episodes, yet quite hilarious. The finish was very nice rounded off, impling there might be a season 2. Dont expect too much of this. Its a very light anime. Also the first episode is very sexulised cause of fan service but it fades off thougout the serie. Love the way they drew the real world and underworld seperately design so it was easier to understand which was good and which was bad 🤣 the story in it self if u look away from the fillers are uniq. Enjoy 😊 i didnt like the intro and outthrou sadly. Was too loud.b

I typically don't mind there's no season 2 for anime with low ratings/low quality - I'm not that invested in seeing how the story progresses. But this is not low quality, and alas, I am invested. Sigh. If there's one thing I truly despise about animation above all else, it is how some anime are just video promos for the manga, and after watching this, that's exactly what it feels like. A very good anime - easily a 9 in my book: great production value, nice monster designs, compelling characters (albeit not shown out enough - keep in mind there's no true character arc), and an intriguing concept, but alas, it gets nothing done in 12 episodes. You don't learn anything new about the MC situation - why does she suddenly see spirits? What happens if she does NOT ignore them? What's up with thos…

Mieruko-Chan is a anime that has been on my watchlist for a few years now. It is one i put off for the longest time but after now seeing it i'm neither disappointed nor amused.
The anime presents itself as a horror on the surface, but it's an example of how you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. That is due to the attempt at horror being rather poor indeed. The horror elements are so very tame, making me confused whether it should be classed within the horror genre to begin with. Despite this i do like the design of the creatures and believe it to stand out as a strong point amid mediocrity. The monsters can be frequently visually intriguing but is let down by both their frequency and actions. I also find the movies attempt at comedy to be utterly mediocre at the very best of times. So…

A young girl sees the spirits of those who have not yet moved on from this world or cannot otherwise find peace. What's more is that these incorporeal entities are terrifying in appearance and while they are normally unable to interact directly with the world, the spirits that remain are capable of touching those who can see them, and so Mieruko cannot ever acknowledge their existence - easier said than done.
Mieruko-chan is a story about how the protagonist copes with her ability to see terrible and monstrous figures while trying to figure out what she can do to better repel spirits from herself or avoid them entirely. The premise is 'I see dead people' crossed with some spiritualism and mysticism - there are mediums who similarly possess this 'sight', who help to guide Mieruko through h…

I haven't read the manga, so be aware that I'm going to speak as someone who only knows the facts narrated in the season aired in 2021.
The premise of the story is the same as "The Sixth Sense", that is, the protagonist is a person who sees dead people all the time. The problem is that in the first episodes the ecchi is so frequent that it disrupts the atmosphere of tension that a horror scene requires. I have no problem with ecchi, (even the Monogatari franchise and Golden Boy are among my favorite animes) but this time it really harmed my immersion in the first episodes of the narrative. Fortunately, this improves as the plot progresses and things become more balanced, without close-ups of asses and breasts every 30 seconds hahaha. Furthermore, the impression I had was that the story goe…
