Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 4

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 4

Introduction

In the deadly battle at the Watergate City of Priestella, Subaru and his allies barely emerged victorious—but their triumph came at a great cost. Through the "Authority of Gluttony," Rem was put into suspended animation, while Crusch's memories and even Julius’s name were devoured. As he searches for a way to save them, Subaru learns of the "Sage" Shaula—an all-seeing being said to possess every form of knowledge. His next destination is the Pleiades Watchtower, home to the Sage, the farthest tower standing in the vast, uncharted desert known as the Auguria Dunes—a place so perilous that even the mightiest "Sword Saint," Reinhard, failed to conquer it. The fury of nature, unknown magical beasts, and unimaginable dangers lie ahead. Together with his friends, Subaru embarks on a life-risking journey to reclaim what was lost. Re:ZERO S4: Subaru and Friends continue their fun and lighthearted adventures! I adore Re:Zero. I have given every season an 8 except S1, which I gave a 9 to. Having a series last this long, especially given each season is 20+ episodes but remain so good still feels very rare nowadays. But Re:Zero is one such anime. Subaru and friends continue on their quest, ending up at a big ol tower. Trials and tribulations await our crew. This is easily the most violent Re:Zero has been since S1. It's been a while since we got ourselves a good ol Subaru Dies in Horrific Ways montage and does our boy go through it this season. He legit may have RbD more times this season than he has in all the other seasons combined. The Tower is not a friendly place and we are reminded of this every single episode i…

Honestly, the only part that really saved the season for me was the finales... The first few episodes were a warm-up, and what was happening in the city wasn’t bad it kept me watching. The visuals were great, the story was unfolding well, and the battles were awesome... As we got to the middle of the season, it became unbearable I honestly can’t count how many times I felt my chest tighten while watching. The moment Subaru entered the archive, reliving what I’d gone through in previous seasons for a while almost made me quit the show. I persevered and kept watching, and it was truly worth it by the end of the season, I found myself thinking, “I’m so glad I started watching this anime.” I could have even given it a perfect score, but if the middle episodes had continued like that, I would…

Hmm, I expected much more, but ended up quite disliking this one. Annoying Subaru is probably my biggest issue, though there are also a bunch of others... I guess I will also touch Rezero in general here, as I never made reviews on previous seasons before Pluses: + Interesting - despite anything, this was rather interesting to watch, as many plot fragments were rather unpredictable + Good presentation. Art and music are nice. Animation is nice, and while some scenes are rather static, it doesn't feel like the anime is doing it on purpose. ± Char designs are mostly nice and I like the colour gamma, but the general balance of characters feels awkward. So many girls (as per bloody anime with action), Subaru ends up in a semi-harem... But the weirdest part is the numerous lolies (some of whi…

I’ll never wait weeks for a new episode again. I won’t watch any anime without seeing the season finale first. It takes away from the show’s impact. Unfortunately, there were moments when the visuals fell short. The earlier seasons were better executed. It feels like there are too many cut scenes—it’s as if this was a rushed job. Since I love the anime, I’ll give it a 10. But that doesn’t change the fact that the work is shoddy.

Yet another amusement park ride of agonizing dementia! No matter how hard I try to force myself to watch this creation to the end, every single attempt just makes me sick. As great as the first season was, the second one was just as stupid, and the third was completely invalidating… And now, the wheel of Samsara comes full circle, and in the fourth season, the viewer is once again watching the exact same narrative pattern by Tappei: Subaru is once again wallowing in a puddle of his own guts, relearning his own worthlessness. And while this was somehow watchable in the first season, and just a bit dumb in the second (which can be described as a flea jumping around on a hot frying pan), in the fourth season, this endlessly repeated trope triggers absolutely no emotion. None at all. Yet ano…

it's def the best season of rezero so far and it only gets better, i love what tappei did for subaru this season, all the characters got their own development and it's well written as always. tbh i did not expect amnesia subaru but it was def ell excuted and our goat locked in as always only critic would be good loser episode, like im glad vincent worked on it but i wish we got what he did for garf vs eight hand guy in s3 cus that shit was just insane af and i loved it more, there was def a bunch of corners cut in good loser episode and i heard it was a demo, man that's just sad i wish he got more time to complete it.

First, I should clarify that this is not really a review of Season 4 alone. It is a review of the series as a whole, based on how I felt after watching all 85 episodes up through Season 4. After spending this much time with Re:ZERO, I finally realized what my fundamental problem with the series is: I simply do not get along with its obsession with depicting everything in extreme detail. And by “detailed,” I do not necessarily mean “carefully crafted.” For the amount of time the series spends on its story, the payoff often feels surprisingly small. Re:ZERO takes its time depicting conversations, psychology, relationships, worldbuilding, and every intermediate step in great detail. This certainly gives the story a sense of reality and density, and as an adaptation trying to preserve the t…

Where do I start? Let's start from the end, left me dissatisfied, 4th season I was really looking forward to to fix some plot things that I ain't gonna spoil, but that's not the point. It left me not in a good way, don't get me wrong, I ain't pissed because I didn't like it, I'm pissed at HOW they got there. The middle part (around 6/8 episodes) felt just filler, I get it that it was necessary to move the story slow and get a point across, but... I really struggled to even see the point, the whole thing could have been compressed a bit, the whole story didn't progress at all if not for a few characters' background explained here and there, which is fine, but... dissatisfied with the whole pacing? A lot? The whole wrapping felt senseless, it left me with more questions than answers, possibl…

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu Season 4 begins exactly where the previous one ended: after the incident in Priestella, Julius Juukulius reveals that nobody besides Subaru Natsuki knows who he is because Roy Alphard, one of the Sin Archbishops of Gluttony, “ate” his name. Reinhard van Astrea, the mighty Sword Saint, speaks about a building named Pleiades Watchtower, where the Sage Shaula lives and who is said to be able to solve all problems, however the swordsman also claims that not even him managed to cross the Augria Dunes to reach the place. Despite knowing the imminent danger, Subaru is confident that this is the chance to awaken his beloved Rem and recover the memories of those whose names were devoured by the Gluttonies, specially Julius. So, Emilia and Anastasia’s Camps form…

As an anime-only fan who has watched everything from Season I to Season IV, including the OVAs Hyouketsu no Kizuna and Memory of Snow, I can confidently say that this anime is one of the best isekai stories I have ever watched. A. The Things I Praise: 1. Masterfully Written Plot & Interconnected Narrative The plot itself is masterfully written and I absolutely love it. It’s not just a straightforward, predictable adventure; it feels like a massive, intricate puzzle meticulously planned from Season I all the way to Season IV. Every small detail, piece of ancient lore, or minor mystery dropped early on actually matters, building up to insane plot twists seasons later. 2. Character Depth & Psychology One of the absolute greatest strengths of this series is its exceptional character writing…

Re:Zero Is the Best Isekai of all time. And it's not really close at this point. When the first season came out, it was just an introduction to the world of Re:Zero. It's a huge universe, so season 1 covered only a tiny part of it. As a result, certain characters hadn't been developed yet, which is fine because the story hadn't reached that point, and other important characters hadn't even appeared. Overall, although the first season was very well received, there was criticism too, and looking back, I can say I mostly disagree with it. The protagonist's behavior. Many people said the main character is a whiner and just plain dumb. Subaru Natsuki was made that way on purpose. And this isn't one of those cases where "they did it on purpose" excuses something bad. But the problem is that i…

i guess it's only been a year since the last season, but it kinda feels like ages. i can't even remember the previous seasons, all i know is they were interesting and brutal. and now... ugh, there is this guy crying in almost every episode. So our "hero" spends all the time bitching because he forgot all the stuff that made him cool and when he does remember, the event turns into a fluff-piece about how awesome he is and just how much everybody loves him, and then he still cries some more. Why they decided to draw that poop-face in almost every episode is beyond me. Anyway, Emilia is the one that took the leading role, she really kicked ass! The fights she had in that tight purple spandex were the only redeeming element in the season, they were a pure pleasure to watch. As i recall, she wa…

Season 4 definitely feels like a big improvement overall. Subaru’s character development is probably my favorite part of Season 4. Without spoiling much, this season puts much more focus on his identity, self acceptance, and learning to value himself. His development shows that the person he has become is not simply defined by his past and is still able to become the Subaru we know on his own, making his growth feel much more meaningful. Season 4 also has a lot more amazing fight scenes, which is great. The only thing that really caught me off guard was Julius’s walking animation when fighting Reid. Bro was moving like he had never used his legs before 😭. But aside from those awkward animation moments, the overall fights are pretty good. I was honestly more impressed by Ram’s fight scen…

Best anime of the decade? Honestly, this season is making a very strong case for it. It somehow brought together the action of Season 3, the horror of Seasons 1 and 2, and character development on a whole different level. Story & Characters What I really loved this season was Subaru's struggle with his imposter syndrome. Seeing him question whether he's actually capable of standing alongside the people around him felt incredibly well done. It's one of those character struggles that feels surprisingly relatable despite everything happening around him. Some scenes were genuinely difficult to watch—not because they were necessarily the most graphic, but because of how well the anime built the helplessness and suffering. Poor Subaru… and honestly, poor everyone. 😭 The best part is that alm…

(Spanish review on my list) The entire season took place in a single location; I get overwhelmed when stories with such vast worlds "waste" so much time stuck in one place... Then again, several seasons have been like that, and at least here they had a valid excuse for being cooped up. It was a plus having the characters lose their memories—watching the protagonist confront his past from "zero" all over again and lose his sanity once more. I really did enjoy the season; it was satisfying to see them making progress and actually achieving their goals—seeing both main and side plots advance, along with character development... BUT—and this will always be my gripe—it’s a world with so much lore. For someone like me—a casual viewer who doesn't obsess over series and has a bad memory—there a…

Don't believe the "19 episode" lie. There are 10 episodes in this season. Episodes 1-7. Then Episodes 17-19. Episodes 8-16 can ONLY be described as a complete waste of time; even to the biggest fans of Re:Zero. More storytelling and plot development happens in Bleach/Naruto filler than in episodes 8-16 of this season of Re:Zero. That is an undisputable fact. Unironically if you skip them you won't miss a single thing or lack any understanding of what is happening. To spend 9 episodes spitting in the face of viewers as you force them to wait for literally anything to happen is disgusting behavior. Gave this season a 6/10 only because it was animated fantastic as always, with great sound design as always. Had they simply made a shorter 10 episode season and left out the 9 episodes of not…

WE ARE SO BACK Season 3 was horrendous. I usually rewatch an entire series from start to finish when a new season/part comes out, but I completely skipped it and relied on a recap video instead. I was afraid they would abandon Subaru's Return to Death ability since there was that whole thing about him using it as little as possible and relying on friends instead. Season 3 had far less psychological horror and mental games, and a lot more generic and boring fights. Will not go into detail since I wrote a review for season 3. Needless to say, season 4 brought us right back to peak rezero. The horror, gore, trauma, mind games, sudden resets, ptsd, and more that I love so much about this series are back and better than ever. There's a bunch of mediocre and cringe parts since it's rezero aft…

WhyAmIForgetting

6/10 (good with flaws), Season 4 unfortunately keeps up the repetition with the memory loss trope AND the way it knocks Subaru back down to torture him some more before he gets back up. And like previous seasons the best thing about Re:Zero isn't the regression but the cast of characters and connections Subaru makes. I will now explain how Regression stories are already adjacent to amnesia / memory loss related stories: it's a simple explanation thankfully, the fact that a character is regressing in time already eliminates the memories of most if not everyone else's memories of the events that transpired for them. The entire premise of Re:Zero, that being Subaru regressing over and over in a fantasy world to hopefully grow and overcome obstacles, is by default full of memory loss (which…

I just got done with the last episode of this season, and man, it was sooo good! This is easily one of the best seasons yet! To start off, this season takes place entirely in the Pleiades Watchtower, where Subaru and the gang hope to find answers to some of their problems, like waking up Rem, healing everyone affected in Priestella, and all that. They hope to find the Sage in the tower, but instead they're met with the not so mysterious Shaula. And man, SO much happens in this tower. What starts off as them going to the tower quickly turns into one problem after another, and the situations they find themselves in just kept getting crazier. It kinda slows down once they're inside, and starts getting crazy again later, but I don't really want to say much more or else I'd be spoiling. Now…

Re:Zero is a work unlike any other, and this season was one of the stars of both the spring and summer. Season 4 adapts arc 6 of the story, which is easily my favorite and, in my opinion, one of the best pieces of literature I've ever read. This arc contains, among other things, what I consider to be the best—and one of very few good—executions of a certain trope, and that alone would earn it very high marks, but everything else here is great as well. Arc 5/season 3 was a bit of a departure from the format of the series until that point, with a much heavier focus on action and relatively little of the deep mysteries that form the core of Re:Zero's identity. The action in RZ is consistently very good in both the anime and the original text, but I do think arc 5 relied a bit too much on it.…
