Rock Is a Lady's Modesty

Rock Is a Lady's Modesty

Introduction

Oushin Girls' Academy is a respected institution reserved only for wealthy young ladies. Very few of its students excel enough to earn the title of Noble Maiden, awarded to those who embody the ideal Japanese woman of culture and refinement. Lilisa Suzunomiya, a girl of common roots, has suddenly found herself as the daughter of a newly remarried real estate mogul and seeks to become a Noble Maiden to prove that commoners like her can be noble as well. The most difficult challenge Lilisa has faced in pursuit of this goal is abandoning her love of rock music to keep up the rich girl facade she must now wear. But her resolve crumbles once she happens upon Otoha Kurogane, the daughter of a prominent politician, skillfully playing the drums while rocking out in an abandoned school building. Despite initially being at odds, they embrace their passion for music together while leading a double life. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

The easiest way to sum up Rock is a Lady's Modesty is to say that they took the experience of playing together in a band and tried to make it into a shounen battle anime. It's very much Dragon Ball Z fight scenes dressed up as playing rock music. During the musical performances there is heavy self-narration going on and most of it is all about playing well enough in order to win against whatever or whomever that band member is thinking about at the time. It's very cartoonishly dramatic, but it can also be fun and entertaining. If you're looking for an anime with realistic representations of what it's like to be in a band then this is not it. I should note that I am a musician and have played in rock bands my whole life so this review isn't free from that bias. However, if you're just look…

The writers clearly lack understanding of basic fundamentals of music and instead seem to treat musical collaboration like an idiotic sports competition to see who can play the loudest/fastest as if that were a metric of quality. The Japanese voice actors mostly gave little effort to actually convey any of the emotional transgressiveness of punk at the heart of the show, an issue remedied somewhat by the English dubbers who tried their best to add a bit of that back despite working with some of the most tediously uninspired exposition dumping monologic dialogue lines possible. (For example they added a great little joke of turning the final episode's applause of "I want to follow them!" into "I want to F--- them!" with a completely dub original joke line read and censor-beep.) But the cr…

Story: 7 Typical "girls find themselves through music" narrative, leaning toward the edgier side of the genre. Family conflict, strict expectations, using music as an escape, eventually finding your true self through rock, etc. It's executed well enough, but nothing particularly groundbreaking. Character: 8 Otoha (drummer) is muh best girl. Every scene she's in is a blast, and she absolutely carries the band's energy. Lilisa the actual MC (guitarist) is cool, especially with her internal conflict. A bit naive, rough, charming. Tina (keyboard) didnt click with me. "Prince charming" by day, secret girlfailure by... By everywhen after the reveal ngl, esp with music. Idk, im not moved by her. Shiraya (guitar turned bassist) is a fun rival, my nitpick is wtf was wrong with her bass solo, th…

If there was anyway to describe this anime, it is basically answering a question no one asked. "What if playing rock was like having hardcore lesbian sex?" It's so sweaty, full of innuendos, foul language, ridiculous visuals. It's such a unique take on the girl rock band anime, making it really stand out. It has uses of 3D for the performances, but it's done in a pretty good and stylized way with use of motion cap to more accurately portray what's actually being played. The studio has really made sure to exaggerate each major moment. It's so over the top, but it really shines because of it. And BAND-MAID really did an amazing job for the anime as well. I can also recommend the dub, it keeps the intensity and suggestive language at a high level, making sure the absurdity doesn't fade in…

Rock Is a Lady's Modesty - the next music anime to hit the stage. But does it hit all the right bells? Story & Characters: Lilisa Suzunomiya is the daughter of a commoner, but seeks to be the "Noble Maiden", the title that goes to the most beautiful and grace of all the students at the Oushin Girls' Academy. Why she seeks this comes down to idolizing it more than anything, but it comes down to a facade that she puts on. This in itself is fine considering where the rest of the story takes her, but I found her character to be a ton of mindless energy. This works for and against the series, as the fun parts are really fun, while the rest of it feels kind of lacking. She learned the guitar at a young age, and wants to play it for the rest of her life, but knows it's not really becoming on the…

Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty is, much like its central characters, rough around the edges but filled with excitement and energy. The performances are easily the main dish for this meal, though I’m still a bit torn regarding my overall opinion of them. On the one hand, I am disappointed that all of the performance scenes use full-CG models that aren’t particularly blended well with the rest of the shot, especially when crazy hairstyles get involved. On the other hand, the cinematography is so amped up and volatile that it’s easy to get lost in the exhilaration most of the time. It also helps that the music kicks ass. Going for instrumentals only was a huge gamble, but it very much paid off in the end both thematically and sonically. The monotonous noble existence our main character pines to mi…

I had fun watching this anime, and that is always a good sign. Overall, everything about this show was good or at least above average. The instrument-playing animation was not very accurate, but it was good enough and still better than what you see in many anime out there. The animation is smooth, and the show looks good visually. In some scenes, they use a bit of 3D animation that reminded me of Girls Band Cry. The 3D is not used often, and when it appears, it looks good and is not off-putting. The music was good, and I liked the pieces they performed. The opening and ending songs were also very good. Story-wise, the anime mostly focuses on the band and their performances. It does not really explore the characters’ pasts or backstories, and only very rarely gives small bits and pieces…

This has some of the best character chemistry I've seen, and the music scenes are truly excellent, especially if you're a rock fan. The duality of rich girl and rocker is a nice touch too. Overall I really recommend giving the first 5 episodes a shot, or at least the first 3. This feels like a different kind of music anime than others I've seen, I hope it gets a second season. Characters The main stars are Otoha and Lilisa, who have an amazing dynamic. I won't go into details but I found it to be a really believable chemistry between two people who know they'll be friends for life in a very real way. It feels authentic, in fact all of the characters feel real to their situation and origins. Music I like rock, and I also like instrumental rock. These might be the best gig scenes outside o…

"Rock is a Lady's Modesty" is what happens when two completely different worlds - high society, and Rock & Roll - collide and result in a violent, raw and unfiltered burst of sound, full of emotions you wouldn't expect from elegant, high-class ladies. Our heroine, Lilisa Suzunomiya is a guitar and rock-loving working-class high school girl, who was forced to give up her passion to become a proper lady of class after her mom re-marries into a high-class family. This forced her to put on the act of a lady of class, while concealing her past and true self from everyone. Due to several circumstances and one thing leading to another, she ends up picking up the guitar again and eventually starting a band with 3 other noble girls. Together, they face many hardships and even go face to face with…

Lounder than words I was genuinely amazed by how emotionally honest this anime was. It doesn't glamorize pain, but it also doesn't shy away from it. Instead, it embraces vulnerability as a form of strength. Watching these girls support each other, fail together, grow, and create something meaningful made me feel proud in a way I can't quite explain. It's the kind of show that reminds you how important it is to chase what makes your heart beat faster, even if the world doesn't understand it. If you've ever felt like you didn't belong, if you've ever struggled to say how you feel, or if you've ever found solace in music-this anime is for you. It's not just about girls in a band. It's about the courage to make noise in a world that wants you to stay silent. And that, to me, is what makes it…

A rock-themed anime about high society girls trying to make a band, while maintaining their status of ladies. Since I am a huge rock fan, I just couldn't allow myself to miss it. Especially when main character is such a punk and a free spirit. The music is great here, no doubt. The few songs that were played in the show, as well as the ones from the opening and ending credits were really good. I really like the fact that the main duo of protagonists is using guitar and drums as their instruments of choice. Especially whenever Lilisa and Atoha get competitive with one another, trying to outplay each other, forcing the other one to give it all to the music they’re playing. As for the characters themselves, I really liked Lilisa for her rebellious attitude and punk nature. Despite the fact…

Just look at those two things. They are absolutely massive! This has to be one of the final bosses of twintails. Okay... Now that I got it out of my system, this show is about a girl (with massive twintails and often very stiff ones at that) who loves rock music and playing the electric guitar but needs to give everything up and be a proper lady because her mother married a rich businessman but she meets a local Yumeko from Kakegurui who secretly plays the drums (she is very sensual about it). The show is mostly about the budding band and their reasons to play rock music but there is a strong throughline of societal, peer and parental pressure and subsequent suppression of what you love or what you are for the sake of others and so on. The music is pretty good but the overall technical…

Story- 9/10 The story involves girls who are very passionate in their own way (instrument), forming a band and performing together. The story is really good, we have a lot of backstory on lilisa with her mom and family, that leads you to question what has happened in the past. Though I wished it given more answers, which I feel like will be answered in the future. The story also gives proper conflict, and issues for the charters to face that makes you root for them or understand their situation and want to root for them. The story was told pretty neatly, it was very easy to understand what was going on, and the scenes were well done. Tho I feel like at some point in the middle the pacing could have been done differently because the beginning and end you could get easily swayed and caught…

This story sounded like something right up my alley since it seemed to combine two elements that I like: elegant rich girls and rock'n roll. It sounded too good to be true. What a disappointment it is. I am not even going to use the names of the characters because at a certain point I just didn't care about them anymore and just wanted to know how the story would end. The first few episodes set up the story of a girl who finds herself becoming rich due to her mother's marriage. She must repress herself as she vows to become the top student in a prestigious school for the elite. Unfortunately almost none of this has any relevance as the show goes on. You sporadically see them in class or studying, but it is a mere visual setup. The author probably drew some pompous girls holding rock instr…

I really love this anime—I’ve already watched it multiple times and I’m still looking forward to a season 2. Out of all the anime I’ve watched, this one truly stands out as one of the best for me. It feels like a whole new level of anime with its unique story, strong characters, and the emotions it brings. The balance of action, drama, and depth makes it unforgettable. Every rewatch feels fresh, and I always notice something new that makes me appreciate it even more. I honestly think this anime deserves more recognition, and I can’t wait to see how the story continues.

Just got done watching Rock is a lady's modesty and it was satisfying to say the least. story: 9/10 while it seems like the anime could have used a longer season the 13 episode run did a good job of setting the scene for the story to come, the music the band plays is good even though many people prefer to have songs with vocals but they do it in a way which draws the viewer in the soundtrack for the show overall is good to with the opening and ending credit songs, Characters: 8/10 the protagonist and her friends each have their own set of problems trying to find their place in the world while wearing a facade but their inner person shows just how outgoing they can be when allowed to be themselves Art: 8/10 the art is a bit standard but it gets the job done when band plays and the character…

Watching this anime was a struggle. I even considered dropping it, but I kept going, believing there was a hidden potential waiting to be uncovered. My viewing experience was inconsistent: some moments, especially during the concerts, were truly engaging, while others—particularly the slice-of-life segments set in school—dragged the pacing down. Despite everything, I ended up with a generally positive impression. Strangely, I find it hard to explain why it felt so difficult to get through, or what exactly compelled me to finish it in the end. Maybe a rewatch would bring clarity, but I simply don’t have the time for that right now.

This show is just plain fun, it's a great time to watch. Just for starters, if you're a fan of crass or suggestive humor than this show has it for days. The main characters cussing each other or some other poor sod out is always a pleasure, the many innuendos and implied yuri sexual tension are great, and the juxtaposition of each character's inner self vs outer self is consistently really funny. Not only that, but the comedy is actually entwined really well with the themes of the story (particularly masking vs the true self and throwing your entire ass into your passion regardless of what other people think). The animation is also just outright stellar, I think this show honestly might take the cake for being the best I've seen at switching between 2d and 3d, as well as the most manic a…

Its a great anime about playing music. There is no romance in the show, however the characters are extremely passionate about music (rock in specific). It's a lighthearted show, there is no tragicness, just small drama. The show is reminiscent of Fukumenkei Noise (Anonymous Noise), though the temes are completely different, it kinda has the same vibe. It's nothing like Beck or Given. Completely different tone. Also dont expect Bocchi levels of comedy or sillyness, the main focus is ROCK! The songs seem to be mostly by Band-Maid, which is an amazing japanese rock band. With the into out of the way, lets dive deeper: - Music 10/10. As mentioned before, its Rock. Just pure, instrumental rock. It seems to me like a great many of the songs were played by the members of Band-Maid, and they a…

Yes, Rock Is a Lady's Modesty has some poor-looking 3D animation elements, BUT! Rock band anime isn't as popular as it should be, but we get a series at least once a year. And in 2025, Rock Is a Lady's Modesty takes us to a school for upper-class girls, where the students are taught how to behave "in society," stripping them of their agency in the process. In these seemingly sterile conditions, a metal-rock band is formed. While it lacks a vocalist, it captivates the audience with its members' exceptional playing and charisma. Although the band consists of four members, the 13-episode series devotes most of its attention to Lilisa and Otoha, the guitarist and drummer, who reveal their true natures while playing. And OMG, they play so well! Using Band Maid and their songs as the soundtra…
