Okay, what the hell am I looking at?
This anime is absolutely insane. Is talking about sex a crime? Because apparently, in this world, it is. Shimoneta takes a completely wild idea and pushes it to the limit: a world where anything related to sex is censored, where discussing such topics can be considered a crime, and where even making a dirty joke can turn you into a sort of terrorist.
It is precisely in this setting that our protagonist gets dragged into an organization fighting against all this repression, seeking to restore people's freedom to talk dirty.
The premise is already completely absurd, but the anime manages to get even crazier when it starts exploring its characters. Ayame, for instance, is simply one of the most unhinged characters imaginable. The woman literally wears p…

Shimoneta is a comedy show with a great concept focusing on sexual humor, which is a vast opportunity for some creative jokes — the punchline is already here! Balls! Coitus! All you really need at this point is to come up with a nice set-up.
And, unfortunately, this show doesn't do almost anything with it. The joke is titties, and the set-up for that is buttocks. You can scream profanities all you want, and you will get some cheap chuckles at first, but if you keep hammering the same bit, it will get stale eventually. And this one does so real fast.
Let's start with the concept. Dictatorial censorship driven up to the extremes, it's always a relatable conflict, which just doesn't want to leave us alone in real life even in this day and age. This show tries to make some commentary on tha…

Wow, I did not expect this to be that good. Let's adress the obvious: long story short, I have the sense of humor of a thirteen year old boy. If you don't, you probably won't find this as funny as I found it to be. If the cover and title seem like fun to you, it probably will be. If they seem too crass and immature, they probably will feel that way to you. This is one case where you can DEFINITELY judge the book by its cover. If the idea of a show cram full with dirty jokes and dialogue about the twig and berries at every possible opportunity, several times a minute doesn't sound good to you, then your hunch will probably be correct in hindsight.
Plot and Comedy
Now, for those still not sure, I'll pitch you the sell: everything about this show is funny, from the fundamental premise, to t…

At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect—especially since the early episodes didn’t hit as hard—but after two or three episodes, everything clicked and I found myself laughing nonstop. This Anime leans heavily into absurd adult humor, and once it gets going, it becomes outrageously entertaining. Anna completely stole the spotlight for me; her chaotic energy and over-the-top moments were unforgettable and easily my favorite part ♥️.
The world it portrays would be absolute chaos (and honestly a nightmare) if it ever happened in real life, but within the story, it works perfectly and delivers something uniquely hilarious. By the end, I enjoyed it so much that I could easily see myself rewatching it. A wild, bold, and surprisingly fun experience 👍.

Gooner Terrorism Show (bare with me), that tackles the worrying rise of modern fascism and poor sex education; the idea that minors have a purity incompatible with (obviously, dirty humour, but also,) say, queer identities or consent, is clearly very, very stupid. A compelling tale about censorship, with a dash of commentary on ancestral sin. Funnier than Konosuba. More politically compelling than Code Geass. I hope this description hasn't been too enticing thus far because this shit sucks ass.
Let me be real. I know why I'm not a huge fan of this. While the show is entertaining enough, the jokes, more often than not, aren't funny, almost every appearance of Anna's character completely derails the show, the writer's undisguised femdom fetish makes it even harder to stomach the fanservice,…

Someone once said, “Heroes come in all shapes and sizes.” They also come in many guises, too. It depends on their cause, who/what they stand for and what/whom they oppose. So, is one to expect anything other than a half-naked young woman clad in a bedsheet using a pair of panties as a shockingly effective veil as the heroine to A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist?
The aforementioned “Boring World…” or just “Shimoneta” came out in Summer of 2015 and ended September 19th of that year. And I can’t think of a better way to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of it’s conclusion than a review of a show that managed to be both shocking and appealing in ways that are not easy to manage. Anime can skirt the line better than most genres, as we who appreciate it are often quit…

It has some interesting undertones about government surveillance and freedom of expression hidden under dirty jokes. Every citizen is constantly being monitored by the government to check if they're saying stuff like cock or pussy, but that also means that they're monitoring every other word that is being said.
While within the show itself, they detain you for indecency, who is to say that such a system could not be abused further? It's pussy today, but tomorrow it could be people with decenting political opinions. Not only that, but the censorship laws presented within this show explicitly have robbed the youth of sexual education, which could be seen as a method of population control since it is the government that decides who gets to have access to this knowledge.

First and foremost, I do not watch comedy amines like these most of the time, but this one was just so funny and out of pocket [in a good way nonetheless.]
Take aways; It's funny, random, it's really really reallly RAUNCHY! I repeat IT'S RAUNCHY. I feel like if you watched Knoa Suba then this would up your alley. It is a lot more excessive on the sexual jokes though.
Nonetheless, if you are looking for a good laugh and have no clue what to watch I would definitely recommend this anime.
I feel like the story line is a bit crazy but honestly what would life be if we didn't have jokes to rely on, especially adult like jokes.
There really isn't much character development unless you think going from hiding the fact you like the jokes to being open about like the jokes then there no charac…

It starts fairly interesting and intriguing, but the plot gets increasingly messy and cheap as it progresses. If you're older than 18, this will most probably let you down.
The anime is supposed to be a joke, and in the beginning they are pretty funny because they're unexpected. Once the element of surprise wears off, the sexual jokes and puns start to become very repetitive (and they do repeat some sex jokes more than once, sometimes in the same episode), mostly because they're not very witty nor accompanied by equally funny contexts. They're just thrown out for the sake of it. Ironically, they have no real impact on the story or any of the scenes.
Perhaps if you understand Japanese fluently, with all its vulgar expressions and intricacies, or if sexual themes are still very novel and c…

This is the best anime ever made.
Insanely hilarious and wacky. Setting is unique and nobody makes anime like this anymore as the world is sadly more sensitive now.
You wont stop laughing.
It's only sad that we wont ever get a season 2.
This is first and foremost a comedy, so if you're looking for something dark, sad or serious, you probably won't find any of those here but you'll find a great time here. At the moment of writing this review, Shimoneta is almost at its 10th anniversary. One would expect that since then, some of the attitudes towards sexuality and vulgarity this show criticized would have gotten better, right?
Truth is, with the spread of more outwardly sexual material this last decade, not only coming from the anime industry but from media in general, some have stayed the same, while some others have gotten even worse.
Shimoneta is not only a show about funny sex jokes being thrown at your face every five minutes or so, it contains a message about sexuality, the ways society interacts with it and the unintended consequences of being overtly moralistic and protective about it can have on those that actually need sex education the most: young people. A message that has only…

I'm still trying to wrap my head around Shimoneta, and honestly, I'm not sure if I succeeded. This anime had all the ingredients for a provocative, thought-provoking commentary on censorship and societal norms, but it ended up being a jumbled mess.
The premise is intriguing: a future Japan where all adult content is banned, and citizens are monitored 24/7 by "Public Morals" collars. But instead of exploring this concept deeply, the show devolves into a series of disjointed, cringeworthy episodes.
The narrative jumps all over the place, making it hard to follow or invest in the characters. It's like the writers threw a bunch of random scenes into a blender and hit puree. I finished the 12 episodes wondering, "What the heck did I just watch?"
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good dirty joke…

Okay, I'm just going to get straight into the review
Story: 3/10 Japan as banned sexual content and put a thing around people's necks so if they say something sexual they go to jail. The main character hates his father and there is a girl named Blue snow that throws hentai pictures at crowds and says a lot of sex jokes, that all the story really is.
Art: 7/10 The Art is somewhat good (The Anime studio is J.C Staff)
Characters: 2/10 This anime has some of the most bland characters ever. There is this one girl named Anna who is a yandere for the main character and basically cums whenever she sees him, she also raped him in the 4th episode which was very uncomfortable to watch.
Comedy: 4/10 This anime is known by some people to be funny but me personally, I didn't. This anime overuses the…

Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai is a comedic series heavily reliant on dirty jokes and gag humor. Unfortunately, most of the humor is rather juvenile and surprisingly mild, leading to repetitiveness throughout its 12-episode run. While the characters initially show promise with their unique motivations, they are never fully developed, and hinted relationships between them remain unrealized. The animation and character design are decent, contributing to the series' overall appeal. However, the anime cannot overcome the lackluster narrative and underwhelming character interactions. Although Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai may cater to viewers seeking dialogue filled with sexual innuendos, others may find it immature and underwhelming.

THIS IS A SPOILER-FREE REVIEW
After a lot of Sci-Fi and Romance i was looking for something...different. I watched my fair share of ecchi shows in the past and i still like the genre really much. But this show broke me. What in gods name have i just watched?
Story – 5/10
Okay, so the main plot is completely different from any other ecchi/comedy i have ever seen. This is some George Orwell type stuff. The insanity of the setting is absolutely crazy. I have seen some anime fans talk about how the setting is genius, and how it criticises japanese censorship regulations but to be completely honest, i think the author just thought of a ridiculous setting for his story. Anime fans need to realise not everything has a deep meaning or a backstory. This setting was just a fun idea which the auth…

Shimoneta is a fun watch that sparks conversation but often falls flat when it comes to humor.
CHARACTERS = 5/10
The series' protagonists are Tanukichi Okuma and Ayame Kajou, surrounded by a small supporting cast. This anime is intended to be a comedy so there is not too much depth to these characters. Tanukichi and Ayame exist as a comedic duo, in which Ayame makes very similar obscene jokes left and right and Tanukichi reacts to them. The antagonists of the different arcs are also very simple (crazy) in their attitudes/behaviors. The side characters, such as Otome Saotome and Kosuri Onigashira, add some fun flavor to the mix. These are all certainly very different characters than seen in most other anime.

I know a lot of people seem to like this series, and this review is not going to say that it is bad overall, I am simply reviewing this in regards to why I didn't like watching it.
Plot: In a world where Japan decided to enact the strictest morality laws possible, they have done away with all things lewd, dirty, and lascivious. Okuma, coming from one of the lowest morality schools in Japan, has been accepted into a high school that is well regarded in terms of having the highest morality standards, and such, he is invited to join the student council so that he can offer insight into this world of degenerate thinking since no one at this school has any idea on the subject. Here, he meets Kajou Ayame, a member of the student council with the secret identity of 'Blue Snow', a masked 'terror…

First of all, let me get my really biased subjective point of view out: When I started watching Shimoneta, it was well...saying it was dirty is an understatement. So many words and sentences that aren't normally said are said. However as the show progressed, I got to say, I got used to these dirty jokes all the time and I focused more on the overall plot of it. If you look at the plot, it isn't that different from other plots. The cause is just different. And overally it was a nice comedy.
➊┇ Humour ➠ The humour in this show is very indecent, which is up to liking of some people, but not others. And while there is so much of it, people don't think much of it in the end. It is obvious that this show was made to be a joke so I don't understand anyone that takes it seriously.
❷ ┇ Fanservice…

This anime really took the Ghost Stories dub approach of random vulgarity = funny. While it is amusing at first, it gets tiring quick.
The entire series is about a group of students faces with protecting immaturity in a censored Japan, and it's honestly really entertaining in the beginning. As the series progresses... however... it's really just a test of "how absurd do you think the publisher will let us go before we get censored?". It gets infuriating at times and ridiculously slow if you don't have the mentality of a middle schooler because of this.
However, the animation holds up extremely well, everything sounds quite nice, and it has its moments. 7/10.

Shimoneta is an interesting one. The very premise of the show serves as a meta-commentary on the type of humor the show employs and the people who think it's funny. In a world where Sony continues monopolize the Western anime market, with the two biggest streaming platforms under their belt and plans to merge it all into one they control a huge percentage of what casual western viewers are probably going to see. Combine this with both Funimation and Crunchyroll having a history of censorship and indiscriminately taking down shows that "no longer meet their standards" or whatever corporate bullsh*t they decide to lean into that day and you can very well see a future where a show like this would never be allowed to exist.
So I guess that's the topic of the day and the main theme of the show…
