Golden Boy is a masterpiece. It is not a masterpiece because it is conventionally good; not in the slightest. It has a nonexistent plot, no goals nor themes. It’s about a regular, unemployed guy exploring the freedoms of adulthood. That pretty much sums up the entire premise of the anime.
Golden Boy is a first of its kind, for its unique approach to presenting a story. It’s raunchy, stupid, and everything silly. There is nothing to analyze, dissect or establish about this anime; It exists purely for entertainment, so stop treating it as if it has complexity.
Sit back and relax. Enjoy its comedy and its amazing cast of characters. Stop overthinking bro.

one of the OG classics comedy that reminds you why old anime hits different.
new plot, new female protagonist for each episode and the unexpected comedy makes it much better.
The animation, the comedy, the characters, the expressions — everything has a raw charm that modern anime often struggles to recreate. 😂 Kintaro is an absolute legend, and every episode somehow manages to be hilarious, chaotic, and genuinely entertaining.
There’s a reason people say old anime are built different. They didn’t need insane CGI, endless power-ups, or 1000 episodes to leave an impact. They had personality, creativity, hand-drawn charm, and unforgettable characters.

It’s a work that offers a rather unique experience.
Golden Boy is one of those titles that is hard to explain without sounding like you’re describing two completely different anime at once. On one hand, it’s a highly sexualized comedy, packed with absurd situations and ecchi content almost constantly. On the other, it’s a story about coming of age, life experiences, work, human relationships, and a young man trying to find his place in the world. And, strange as it may seem, these two elements manage to coexist remarkably well.
The story follows Kintarou Oe, a young man who decided to drop out of school to learn what life truly has to teach. Instead of following a traditional path, he travels by bicycle to various locations, working odd jobs and meeting a wide array of people. Kintarou h…

I know I’m way late to this review. I watched this anime way back in 2018 while I was on a hunt for retro anime, and honestly, I still think it’s one of the best anime for anyone going through tough times or facing challenges in life.
It’s just perfect, especially if you’re binge-watching it. I used to literally imagine myself as Kentaro while watching it! 😂
This show deserves 1,000 episodes. I genuinely didn’t want it to end. Story is great, 1000 percent enjoyable. Retro style art is peak art no question ! All characters were relevant and well written, most of the situations were coincidence tbh. I don't think anyone will be disappointed on this anime .

Golden Boy is one of those shows that shouldn't work nearly as well as it does. Strip it down to a logline and it sounds like a dare: a broke, perpetually horny law-school dropout named Kintarō Ōe pedals across Japan on a bicycle held together by rust and stubbornness, drifting from odd job to odd job, leering at every woman unlucky enough to cross his path and then, somewhere in the middle of all that leering, quietly turning out to be the smartest person in the room. It's a premise with no business being charming. It's charming anyway.
The 1995 fingerprints are all over it, and that's a compliment. The character designs have that particular mid-90s density thick linework, expressive eyebrows doing half the emotional labor, backgrounds that feel hand-inked rather than rendered. There's a…

One crazy ass anime. Easily among the top 5 most perverted anime i have watched. This anime literally walks on the borderline of normal anime and hentai anime. I swear bro, hentai anime aint as perverted as this anime. Its a great watch. DO NOT WATCH WITH YOUR FAMILY! In my opinion, ep 1 was the best, closely followed by ep 6. Why does it only have 6 episodes???
This is definitely a unique anime. I lowkey dont know what the genre for this kinda anime even is. I have never watched anything like it.
I absolutely loved the art style. Any random scene has more frames than OPM S3. The old art done on paper rocks even in big 26.
The comedy scenes are hella funny. Not forced. Also, bro really gotta stop sniffing toilets.
The characters were cool too. My favorite is the girl from ep 1. The school…

It's a pretty funny show, biggest problem is just that you can't have a main character be so contradictory. He's an idiot until he is suddenly shown to be a savant, it just seems kind of forced. That being said, as long as you can ignore the inconsistency in the characterization of the MC and just accept he's lackadaisical it's very funny. The side characters are interesting and funny.
The artstyle is very mature and its anatomical accuracy to what humans look like aid greatly to the story feeling very realistic and taking place in our world. The girls drawn are very attractive, it's a nice bonus.
You'll like it if you can accept that the main character is an idiot until he's suddenly not for seemingly comedic effect, and it is pretty funny. The last 3 episodes are the best ones, I was…

The ecchi BLUEPRINT.
Where does the ecchi genre actually come from? The word itself is the Japanese pronunciation of the letter "H," which serves as a euphemism for "hentai" (pervert). Based on this, as a genre, it can be viewed as a derivative of hentai - a tamed version that is milder, more playful, and sexually charged, but not pornographic. There is no act, only teasing and mischief. If we look at its precedents, it becomes obvious that ecchi is inseparable from humor. Titles like Cutie Honey or Urusei Yatsura experimented quite early with bringing sexuality and "natural perversion" to TV, and well, what better way to do this than through comedy, which makes otherwise difficult topics digestible? The more juvenile TV attempts were complemented in the 1980s by the beginning of the OVA…

Watched on AnimeFire
Golden Boy is one of the most absurdly fun and entertaining short anime I’ve ever seen. It’s an easy recommendation.
I ended up watching it on AnimeFire, mainly because it’s surprisingly hard to find this series available on any official platforms. That alone says a lot about accessibility. Older anime like this often get neglected, and ironically, it’s the community-driven sites that end up preserving and keeping them watchable, even if the quality isn’t ideal.
And that’s one of the biggest issues here: the available versions are rough. Low resolution, washed-out colors, weak audio. At times it feels like you’re watching a degraded copy of something much better. It really deserves a proper remaster so more people can experience it the way it was meant to be seen.…

Golden Boy is one of those shows where you can’t really pretend it’s subtle — it’s basically powered by sexual desire half the time — but I still ended up having a good time with it. The biggest thing it has going for it is that it’s genuinely funny when it wants to be, and the comedic timing still lands.
I love the old-school animation style. It has that classic 90s look that makes everything feel more expressive and alive, especially when the show goes full cartoon with reactions and exaggeration. And honestly, the main character’s willingness to learn new things is weirdly wholesome in the middle of all the chaos — he’s a mess, but he’s also curious and committed in a way that makes the episodes easy to watch. Some of the cut-offs and sudden endings to jokes are hilarious as well.

I should get the mandatory public service announcement out of the way first: This is a 90s ecchi anime through and through. If the idea of a protagonist with a single-minded, comically exaggerated obsession with the female form makes you uncomfortable, you might want to pedal right on past this one. The camera lingers, the reactions are over-the-top, and the visuals are… well, let's just say they're not subtle.
Now, if you’re still reading: Golden Boy is a hidden, and utterly bizarre, gem. It’s a six-episode OVA that manages to be both one of the funniest and most unexpectedly heartfelt comedies of its era, all while wearing its perverted heart proudly on its sleeve.

Golden Boy is a comedy & ecchi that does exactly what it sets out to do.
Kentaro carries himself through episodic trials & tribulations at various jobs, using his hardworking study/work ethic and contagious optimism to solve problems for people who've underestimated him.
There's a continuous juxtaposition between the shows main themes: comedy & ecchi. The show mocks the exaggerated pacing and animation of ecchi, leveraging these to conventions to support it's humor.
In the end, the show is short enough that the charm doesn't tarnish before it ends, and sweet enough that it leaves me with a smile after every episode. I'd recommend a viewing, or re-viewing, for anyone who would enjoy an exaggerated, low-brow, and short comedy.

This is one classic anime with only 6 episodes.
It was a nice slice of life anime. There was a lot of comedy and it was quite fun to watch. There is also some erotic element to this anime, so not recommended for kids.
This anime teaches that all jobs are important and highlights the significance of studying at every opportunity one can find.
The art was a good and gave quite a nostalgic feeling.
The music was quite appropriate and I liked the opening music and the ending song.
The main character has quite a kind, joyous and charming personality. All the other characters had quite a unique personality and this made the anime even funnier.
I will recommend this anime to my adult friends, they will definitely enjoy it.

Surprisingly surprising. It's definitely not for everyone, but it has an undeniable heart and soul to it that shocked me. Not to mention some of my favorite music in an anime ever.
Only complaint is that some episodes hit harder than others—episodes 3 & 6 particularly stand out as my favorites. But with only 6 episodes total, this is an easy, entertaining, and vividly memorable anime.
The anime excels at convincing you that the story is going to take a certain turn—then completely subverts your expectations and resolves each episode in a fresh, surprising way. The protagonist is an excellent character because he's relatable, yet surprisingly capable and selfless.

It's fanservice. It's fanservice with no substance made by an extremely weird author who is a sex maniac (proven by the garbage source material that is the manga).
The anime is not much better, considering we have to follow the POV of a degenerate 25-year-old protagonist, that stalks women, makes sexual remarks about them and is also into minors like Naoko (a high school girl).
And no, trying to justify this type of content by saying how it's an "older series, so it's fine" is not okay and is an invalid argument.
Comedy IS subjective, but criminal behavior isn't.
In the end, this series presents itself as this creepy author's fever dream and he did not try to hide it AT ALL how much he wanted to self-insert into this.
It's weird, way too weird for anyone with normal standards to someh…

This anime had been on my list for a while because I've seen it recommended all over the place.
Sad to report, that the anime does not live up to the hype. This is one of those anime that has a cult following for being "bad" which to each their own, but I was expecting so much more.
Our main man, Kentaro has the personality and mental capacity of Patrick Star and we are led to believe he is a genius because he is always studying the world and different positions in the workforce.
Let me save you some time and say that pretty much every episode goes like this :
1 - Kentaro is working at a new place
2 - Kentaro does something stupid to mess everything up and cause the girl in that particular episode to hate him. (inset Kentaro hugging a toilet scene)
3 - Kentaro studies his notes and lear…

I had heard this anime was really good, but I couldn't imagine that being true, especially since it's an ecchi comedy and only has 6 episodes. Still, right from the first episode, Golden Boy managed to hook me. I can honestly say it's a classic. I'd gladly rewatch it anytime I'm in the mood to laugh until I cry.
I think this is the first anime where comedy and sensual scenes blend together so well. No matter how dominant and attractive the women in this anime are, there's just not enough time for them to awaken your sexual instincts—because Kintarou shows up and has you dying of laughter.
Speaking of him, this Kintarou is just as weird as he is smart. And even if some might label him a simp, I can’t help but empathize with this character. He’s genuinely super likeable, ngl. I’d give him a…

Short and sweet. This is the most accurate description of this phenomenal piece of art that did more with its 6 episodes than some of the shows with 50+eps
Kintaro the main character of this story isn't your typical Japanese boy who decided to graduate from university and get a degree and then find some kind of 9 to 5 job,in fact he's the exact opposite, leaving his studies and embarking on a journey to obtain what i like to call real/practical knowledge with the greatest teacher you could possibly have-life
Even tho he seems foolish at first with his dirty pervert thoughts and expressions behind all that lies a responsible adult who realized the importance of life as an individual's teacher, that's why he decided to leave everything behind and turn over a new leaf.Job opportunities with a g…

This is the type of show that probably shouldn't work, especially not for me. I'm generally dismissive of ecchi, especially when it feels gratuitous, and this show kind of leans into that with all the breasts on display and scenes of sexual arousal. I also generally don't like harems, yet this show leans into that with Kintaro picking up women episode after episode only to leave them chasing after him. Couple that with a horned up lead who falls for every woman and toilet he finds but is somehow great at everything he tries and this should really be putting me off...
...so why isn't it? A lot of the reason is the comedy. This show really does play everything for laughs in the best way, making even the gratuitous nudity just part of the joke. Kintaro does become really good at a lot of odd…

Golden Boy is a classic 1990s ecchi that has a lot of really funny moments, but also a lot of extremely uncomfortable ones. Each episode focuses on the main protagonist, Kintarou, getting a new part time job to fulfill his 2 desires in life: to study more about life and to lust over an attractive woman. Sometimes this culminates in hilarious scenes such as Kintarou's first swimming lap, while other times the show thinks it needs to point out his boner. Sometimes an episode can show how much Kintarou truly wants whats best for the woman of the episode, while other times we are forced to see his twisted sexual fantasies of them. This isn't even mentioning that Kintarou also has to meet each episodes quota of rubbing himself against the woman's toilet.
If Golden Boy was just a supercut of ev…
