Man, I really wanted to like this anime. Like, genuinely. I went in after seeing the trailers. Gorgeous art, that classic Miyajima style from Rent A Girlfriend, a big family of attractive siblings in a fancy Tokyo mansion. Sounded like it could be a fun, messy rom com with some emotional weight. I cleared my weekend, popped some snacks, and binged all 12 episodes Ended up giving it a 4 out of 10. Oof.
Do not get me wrong, the animation and visuals are straight up stunning. Doga Kobo did a fantastic job. The character designs pop, backgrounds feel rich and lived in, and those little everyday moments like family dinners or walking around Setagaya look premium. The sisters are all drawn so distinctively that you can tell them apart even in group shots. I actually paused a few times just to a…

( The Shiunji Family Children ) a cringe show with a dumb, nonsense story.
The story is about love between siblings with romance and harem tags.
But seriously, there is no romance in the entire show and no harem at all from the first episode to the last. Instead, it’s full of cringe, annoying, boring scenes with no sense. It’s just another awkward and pointless anime built around a strange premise. The whole story depends on the shock value of siblings suddenly discovering they are not blood related, and the anime keeps pushing that idea as if it’s something clever.
Instead of building a meaningful story, the show wastes time on uncomfortable tension and forced romantic hints between characters who spent their entire lives as family. Rather than feeling emotional or dramatic, it mostly…

So last week, I borrowed a new anime entitled The Shiunji Family Children (2025). I began to watch that on September 30 and, amazingly or not, concluded that soon on October 1. So, according to the internet, its genre is Romantic Comedy / Harem. But, truly, don’t blindly rely on that genre only—particularly if you’re watching this with your whole family. My advice to you is to take my word that this anime is far, far beyond being a mere rom-com.
If I had to classify it, I’d classify it as a light-ecchi anime. There’s nothing wrong with its fearless moments—kiss scenes, bikini shots, and a bit of suggestive material too. But make this clear, however: There’s no actual nakedness. Nevertheless, the “tone” of the series is truly not one that you can play on the living room TV with company pre…

When we see an anime with 5 girls and 1 prota we already think of Go-Tōbun no Hanayome because it is a reference, we even think that it will be a generic copy but that was not really the case with this one since it focuses on developing the characters and the comedy, more than the romance itself, maybe one or another forced interaction but nothing absurd, what I missed a little was more interactions with Shion and I believe they could have developed him a little more, maybe in the manga there will be a better development or maybe in a second season, the animation in general is well done and I think it is worth giving a chance for those who like romantic comedy, it does not offer an intense romance but it offers a good development and some laughs

Is this the Shiunji Family harem that's rated seven on MyAnimeList? Woah, that's twelve episodes with ”two” brothers and five sisters that aren't blood related right?
The above is my attempt at writing the exposition & dialogue filled with admiration & praise that's spouted by every third party and their dog in the show about the characters. It's probably the most distracting part about the Anime outside of the incestuos plot, followed by the hollow plot device brother & the reiterating inner monologue of the Main Character.
It's a generic modern harem with a different skin. What I can praise is the dynamic Arata & Banri have with their siblings and each other. Despite the incestuos undertones & romantic scenes, the interactions & relationships between both of them & the family are surpr…

Really fun anime. I love the overall dynamic between the characters and there isn’t too much fan-service, just genuinely good conncetions. Anybody in the rom-com genre might like this anime. All of the characters are all very unique as well, and every one of them have good personalities, though the anime isn’t TOO realistic, which is expected. The art-style id prob one of mh favs in the rom-com genre. One thing we can give Reiji is that he knows how to draw
One critique I have however is when they try to do the fourth wall breaks where they try to make fun of the romcom harem anime tropes. It’s just cringe tbh

Is it a romance or is it a comedy? Shiunji-ke no Kodomotachi is so questionable on so many levels that i could write an entire review about what is wrong with this anime.
My main issues consist of:
- The entire plot, let's be honest... What is even happening here? Not only is is morally questionable, the entire handling of the concept of not related by blood (and the entire plot related to it), like they are suddenly not family anymore, is so weird - awkward - cringe and borderline damaging to my brain.
- Excessive, unnecessary fanservice (especially in regard to characters that are (and look) way to young) that takes away from the almost non existing credibility that remained.
- The fact that somehow, after all this, i still enjoyed watching it...
See you guys in season 2!!

Honestly, this wasn’t that great it could’ve got a completely different direction but didn’t I would’ve preferred it if it was like a whole family dynamic doing stuff not let’s see which sister get the brother
it is a little bit weird but what makes it just about bearable is that they’re not actually related but the MC loves to point out that they are just to make it even weirder but there was a couple of good episodes, but most of it was meh kind of glad to have gotten it over with and out of the way I mean you might like it, but it was not great for me
The story was the character designs and the cast was good Can’t complain about that. The only problem I have is the pot was just a bit weird in the themes around it.
5/10
You might like it, but I didn’t really

Shiunji-ke no Kodomotachi was surprinsgly entertaining to watch, it's much better than the other very famous manga by the same author, Rent-a-Girlfriend. To be honest, there is still a few degenerate scenes in this anime, and while they can be seen as controversial by some, at least the MC will condemn the few cringe moments in the show, which makes it acceptable.
This anime doesn't reinvent the wheel, it feels like the author enjoyed Gotobun no Hanayome's plot and decided to write it in his own way with his own plown twist : what if the 5 beautiful sisters you grew up with weren't blood related to you ? If you are used to anime, you are probably afraid of what comes next, but that's where the author surprises us ( even more considering RaG's MC ) : Arata, the MC of this anime isn't the…

You could sum up this anime by saying: it feels like the creator of Rent-a-Girlfriend watched Gotoubun no Hanayome, got inspired by its concept, and decided to try his own take on the formula, maybe thinking he could improve it or at least ride the same wave. But after finishing season one, I realized Gotoubun was kind of lightning in a bottle: its charm came from a specific blend of old-school romance tropes and a unique premise that’s hard to replicate. If you want to expand on that idea today, it probably has to go big, like what 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really Love You is doing.
This anime’s premise is nearly a one-to-one copy: several girls who are technically not related to the main character all fall for him, and the audience is left wondering who he'll pick. The girls f…

If you're curious about how something decent on paper can end up a dumpster fire due to poor execution, give this a watch. Same if you want to experience a true bad romcom to appreciate the good ones more.
I have so many problems with this show, I won't repeat what most others have already stated.
This feels more like a 2000s MTV reality dating show where they have a house full of girls, raging with hormones, compete to win over a rich, square jawed investment banker. Any and all family characteristics are thrown out the window(in EP.1) so it's pure, undiluted raunchiness. The tropes go hard for all, yet no further at all. I struggle to care or like any of the girls, despite the signature "golf ball neon eyes" and impeccable art design.
For a future man of the house, the mc does ofte…

[For male audience]
If you like the main girls displayed in the promotion picture and their fanservices/romance just watch it, don't worry about the "taboo" or "incest" stuff. You will see a lot of soft fanservices and some censored nudity in this anime. Because MC is surrounded by many beautiful girls (harem-like).
The most famous female VA here is Takahashi Rie that voices Ouka. She also voiced Megumin in Konosuba, Sumi in Kanojo Okarishimasu, Emilia in ReZero and many more that you most probably already watched at least one of animes voiced by her.
[For female audience]
Arata, the male MC is considered handsome and masculine, with his muscular body often being exposed from time to time. And of course, the MC voice is the famous male JP VA Yuuichirou Umehara, the same voice of Goblin Sl…

Another creation by the insane mind of the Rent A Hooker mangaka, Reiji Miyajima. When I first hear about this series was right after this guy was caught walking around with a life size model of his OC. Some positives first. The anime looks nice, Reiji was always a good artist who puts alot of detail into her artwork. The characters has pretty neat designs, the animation is pretty good as well since it was made by the same studio as Rent a Girlfriend. The characters themselves are more tolerable than Rent which I can give credit for that. But all this good grace is gone thanks to the plot. The basic plot is a family of 5 girls and 2 boys find out they aren't siblings and 4 of the 5 girls wanna fuck the main guy now. That's really fucking nasty and what made it worse is that the youngest wa…

This anime feels like it was made just to fill the seasonal harem slot. You’ve got the classic setup—five girls, all falling for the same guy—and yeah, it’s super predictable. I’ve watched plenty of shows like this, including the author’s other work like Rent-a-Girlfriend, so a lot of the usual flaws were obvious to me.
The protagonist honestly feels like a tweaked version of Kazuya. He’s supposed to look a bit more confident and manly, but deep down he’s still the same indecisive and frustrating guy with the same annoying habits people always complain about. As for the girls, they each have a bit of backstory, which is nice, but they still mostly fall into common archetypes.
The show did try to include emotional or dramatic moments, but they often came across as forced. There were too m…

The first episode of The Shiunji Family Children (2025) left a good impression on me. The pacing, while slow, didn’t make it any less engaging, thanks to its protagonist, Arata — a serious and reserved character who only allows himself to unwind in the privacy of his room.
That’s why the opening twist is brilliant. It genuinely unsettles all the Shiunji siblings and sows distrust among them. There was solid potential here to build an intriguing conflict, even with a touch of melodrama.
The downside is that, being a work by Reiji Miyajima, the charm couldn’t last. In just a couple of episodes, the anime gave in to clichés, bland plotlines, and silly humor. In short: self-sabotage.
Maybe the author is quite satisfied, knowing that — like Rent-A-Girlfriend (2017) — this series will likely…

The Shiunji Family Children, adapted from Reiji Miyajima's manga, is a disappointingly shallow and unoriginal anime that echoes the lackluster qualities of his earlier work, Rent-A-Girlfriend. It was no shock to learn both share the same creator, as this series feels equally dreadful.
The animation is the one bright spot. Character movements and expressions are occasionally smooth and well-crafted, though it’s clear much of the budget was spent on unnecessary fanservice shots of the Shiunji sisters. Know your customer, I guess.
Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The characters are painfully one-dimensional. Each sister is a walking stereotype—big sister, shy girl, bookish type—with no depth beyond their predictable traits. The male protagonist is a generic, clueless self-inse…

Ngl the anime could have been better if everyone was blood related. Reiji wanted his cake and to eat it to. He wanted it to have the taboo of incest but not really, if you’re going to write this kind of story go all the way or just don’t make them related to each other!
Con’s
- Arata saying “we can’t do this we’re siblings” all the time. It wouldn’t annoy me that much if reiji went all the way
-unnecessary flashbacks for things that happened like 5 minutes ago
-random dudes gawking like they’ve seen a goddess on earth anytime the female characters are outside like yeah man we know they’re pretty you don’t have to say it for 30th time
Pro’s
- beautiful animation doga kobo cooked. They’re was not a scene where I could say it looked bad
-Minami’s arc was a highlight of the show in ge…

I find it completely unbelievable that the author of Rent a Girlfriend is the same person behind this work.
To be completely honest, this story is far from being a masterpiece or something revolutionary within the genre—there are plenty of better works out there—but I have to say, it's good.
It has some sweet moments, a somewhat fast-paced but relatively natural development, well-built characters, and decent dialogue.
I hope the story continues on a good path, since it feels very different from the author's other, much more popular work. I’ll probably turn to the manga to find out what happens next.
On the other hand, the animation is very well done, the music is great, and the voice actors (in the original Japanese) do an excellent job.
Like I said at the beginning, it’s not an outst…

A flimsy replica of Quintessential Quintuplets with a few factors changed, actually in a bad way — considering that they went from blood related siblings into totally unrelated strangers that has been together since they were kids.
The show isn't bad, but you will not be able to avoid seeing the similarity especially if you're the person who has watch QQ before this show.
Lets ignore the fact that this was made by the same person that made this absolute garbage show "Rent-A-Girlfriend" — it is evident that he has relied on a heavy inspiration towards QQ.
However, my rating is 8/10 for a reason — it wasn't exactly a bad watch but it didn't really deserve getting anything higher than that. I liked the show because of Rie Takahashi voicing Ouka Shiunji, enjoyed the majority of her scenes.…

If at the beginning of the season someone had told me that something coming out of Reiji Miyajima's head would be good, you would have had me dancing the macarena for an hour. Now, with the anime over, I'm the one who says that something coming out of that man's head is good.
From the beginning, Shiunji places us in the strangest and most uncomfortable premise imaginable: seven siblings. When the youngest turns 15, it's revealed that they are not related by blood. From here on, we see how each of the girls becomes romantically interested in her older brother. There's no incest, but that strange feeling persists. Up to this point, you genuinely believe that this man has the Midas touch, but in reverse. As the story progresses, you realize that he really took his time to treat the subject w…
