Silver Spoon

Introduction

Yuugo Hachiken is studious, hard-working, and tired of trying to live up to expectations he just cannot meet. With the ushering in of a brand new school year, he decides to enroll in Ooezo Agricultural High School, a boarding school located in the Hokkaido countryside, as a means to escape from the stress brought upon by his parents. Initially convinced that he would do well at this institution, Hachiken is quickly proven wrong by his talented classmates, individuals who have been living on farms their entire lives and know just about everything when it comes to food, vegetables, and even the physiology of livestock! Whether it be waking up at five in the morning for strenuous labor or to take care of farm animals, Hachiken is a complete amateur when it comes to the harsh agricultural life. Gin no Saji follows the comedic story of a young student as he tries to fit into a completely new environment, meeting many unique people along the way. As he struggles to appreciate his surroundings, Hachiken hopes to discover his dreams, so that he may lead a fulfilling life on his own terms. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

At first glance at this anime, it might just seem like a regular countryside slice of life, but on the inside, Silver Spoon shines a lot more due to its complexity and the premise of the main character. “What is my dream?” We are shown this question right after the introduction of the main character, Hachiken Yuugo, who has just transferred from the city to the countryside, who is also completely unrelated to farm life and will have to navigate and figure out himself and his mission in life. This also helps the audience learn alongside the protagonist things that may not be too obvious about farm life. Although some comedic tropes might be outdated even now, they are still part of the charm of slice of life, mixing it with some of the naïveté with which a city person might regard farmers…

From a young age, we are often asked the same question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Back then I never really knew how to answer it. I would just give the same answer as everyone "I want to be successful. I want to be happy. I want to have a good life." those things, I don't know how to find meaning in my own way, about finding my place in life. Gin no Saji explores that exact feeling of self discovery through Yuugo Hachiken, a student who enters an unfamiliar world without a clear dream or direction. The anime shows that finding our place in life is a gradual journey shaped by experiences, relationships, struggles, and the choices we make along the way. - PREMISE Created by Hiromu Arakawa, the series follows Yuugo Hachiken, a high achieving but exhausted student from a com…

When I read the synopsis, I didn't know what to expect, but I ended up discovering my favorite anime. I loved every single episode. The protagonist grows with each experience, and while many parts are humorous, it's a pleasant kind of humor. The moments where he has to reflect are understandable, so if you're going through something similar, you'll find yourself relating to it and it will help you. There are many characters, but they're all memorable. Each one has their purpose and helps the protagonist in some way, and there are two in particular who show you their problems, allowing you to understand them much better. I will definitely recommend this gem. I was left wanting more, so I'm going straight to the second season. I hope it's just as good, or even better.

I'm currently in veterinary school, and very avid about the work, so I asked ChatGPT whether there was any veterinary related anime. This was the closest it said, and I can say with great joy that this show has hit home for many of the struggles and lessons I have learned while studying veterinary science, as well as satisfy my overwhelming love for animals through an anime. Gin no Saji truly delivers upon showcasing the agricultural lifestyle in every meaningful aspect. Many major farm animals are given a thorough cameo and expanded upon, with the exception of chickens, and in doing so, seeks to teach the viewer a lesson through each, and that livestock are truly a very temporary presence the world, though they are a longstanding presence in the lives of those who work with them. Especia…

Silver Spoon captures a coming-of-age story set against the rural backdrop of agricultural life, while exploring themes of self-discovery, hard work, and the contrast between idealized expectations and real-world responsibilities. The narrative follows Yuugo Hachiken, a city-born student who enrolls in Ooezo Agricultural High School to escape academic pressure and personal uncertainty. Initially unfamiliar with farm life, Hachiken confronts the challenges of livestock management, crop cultivation, and the physical demands of rural labor, all while navigating the interpersonal dynamics of classmates who are deeply connected to agriculture either by family tradition or personal passion. The series excels in transforming everyday farm work into narrative engagement that balancing humor, refle…

This is a review of seasons 1 and 2 From the legendary creator of Fullmetal Alchemist, Hiromu Arakawa puts just as much love and detail into this series as you'd expect from her previous works. A lot of the events from this show are inspired from her own experiences of growing up on a farm. While it's still a very fun, rose-tinted look at what goes into all the ins and outs of working on a farm, it still doesn't shy away from being very blunt and honest with the dark and difficult trials that come with it. It can be VERY painful to watch at times, especially if you're a vegetarian like me, but it gave me a much greater understanding of how much work goes into providing the food we all eat and a MUCH deeper respect for the people who make it feel so seamless whenever we walk into a grocery…

At the end of each episode there's a smile on my face. Combined with the music outro, it gives me a warm feeling inside. It is very easy to get into the MC's shoes and understand his straggles. He is very relatable but also a very fun character. You can't hate him. I recommend this one to everyone (except vegans). It is a nice change of pace and it will not fail you. ps i'm amazed every time that diamonds like this one find their way to me out of nowhere. i wouldn't had pick this one out of a bunch. i guess going back to check what you missed and give it a chance it's worth it.

So, you want to know about Gin No Saji? Well, it's an anime about a high school boy named Yugo Hachiken who enrolls in an agricultural school to escape the pressures of academic success. Riveting stuff, I know. But don't let the mundane premise fool you, because Gin No Saji is actually quite an enjoyable and heartwarming anime. The story may not be groundbreaking, but it's executed well and offers a unique glimpse into the world of farming and agriculture. The style of the anime is simple and understated, but it works perfectly for the laid-back atmosphere of the story. The animation is clean and consistent, and the character designs are memorable enough without being overly flashy. As for the characters, Yugo is a relatable protagonist who undergoes significant personal growth througho…

Silver Spoon is an anime that truly warms the heart!

From beginning to end Silver spoon walks a fine line between comedy and dramatic realism. Many of us take what we have for granted due to our fortunate upbringing, being fed with a silver spoon from birth. We are oblivious to the hardships others may face during their upbringing. This show deeply explores those issues from an agricultural lens accurately depicting farm life.

The characters are fun, likeable and very well-written, the show touches upon themes such as ones search for purpose in life, compromise between ones dream and family. Also the moral conundrums around the ethical/humane treatment of animals.

The main protagonist Hachiken is also a very well written character; he goes through a lot of growth throughout the sh…

Man, I love farming. Understand that Silver Spoon’s plot is shallow in the sense that there isn’t anything else that matters. Literally some kids are farming and growing up in agriculture school. What matters is how this premise is executed so well by virtue of its character interactions. Like every good teenager, Hachiken doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life and feels exceptionally lost. He’s good at academics, but studying is not a fulfilling passion. I like that he doesn’t find a concrete answer in the end, because my high school self certainly didn’t know when I dropped out. Even so, he’s a little less lost. The future is still unknown, but taking comfort in that helped him. The comedy was mostly a miss for me, but that wasn’t crucial for my enjoyment. The vibes are like Yu…

This is a very good Anime! For those who are in need of enthusiasm or motivation, I suggest watching this Anime! This is one of the anime that can cheer me up when there is a problem at work. Slice of Life, Romance, Comedy and School genres unite in harmony. The story about the main character who comes from a junior high school in the city and prefers to continue his high school period in a place far from the city shows how everyday life is at a school majoring in agriculture. His life at school seemed fun and not boring. His friends are fun and kind when interacting with Hachiman. Even though it looks fun and peaceful, actually this anime has a pretty heavy family conflict. Shows the conflict between the main character's family and the families of some of his close friends, as well as the…

Ever feel like you just wanna vent off your stressful dayjob and just retire to farm, away from it all? Supposedly, farmwork is much more complex than that. Silver Spoon is Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley in anime form. It is a light tale of a a bunch of farming school progressing their varying dreams of becoming successful farm entrepreneurs and the like. In paper, it sounds boring but the show itself was such a delight due to its wonderful cast, comedic bits, educational contexts, and good pace. It was surprisingly amusing just watching them do farm stuff like riding horses, gathering eggs, learning how to process food and they are all anchored to reality which gives the show a feel of those farming and simulation games. Helmed by FMA's author, the quality of the details definitely shows.…

I'm super new to anime, this is my, like, 5th show, and I loved every minute of it. I came here with high hopes for story (I was intrigued because Hiromi/u Arakawa, the author of FMA, wrote it), and it did not disappoint. The animation is nothing to write home about, but every character is lovable in their own ways, and once again, the story is on-point! I especially enjoyed the Pizza and Porkbowl arcs, as well as the story's (albeit unfinished in the anime) developing love interest. If you're like me, you'll also enjoy all of the plots with the horses, especially Maron. He's super ugly, but he's awesome! I liked all the openings and endings as well (although many despise the first OP), and if you can recognize the voices of Sukima Switch, you'll find a treat in the first ED ;)

As a girl who grew up on a farm, this anime is so much fun for me to watch. I love seeing Hachiken learn all about the country life and the hardships of living on a farm! Anyway, I feel in love with the characters after reading the manga first. Then, I had to try out the show itself!! NO REGRETS!! it's sooo gooooddd!! Very very very underrated :3 However, I have to say I was dissapointed in the art. The anime's art is good, but the anime.. eh.. but if you an overlook it, it's just a great show in general.

If you're looking for an anime that sparks your love for homesteading or ignites that flame in your heart that itches to get back to rural farming society, this anime is for you. I remember watching this a few years back and I just recently watched it again with my partner who was in an agricultural club back in high school. He commented that a lot of the information given in the show was accurate and that they seemed to really do their research. I couldn't agree more. This anime really gets into the roots of farming, agriculture, and business in ways you wouldn't think an anime would. As for the story and characters, I had some gripes with the main character Hachiken since he's kind of a pushover and a wuss when it comes to farm work, but when you really get to understand his upbringin…

Silver Spoon Season 1 Review. Made me a bit more uncomfortable then i thought it did. The series is about a young man that decides to join an agricultural school. Its a slice of life series where everyday is about taking care of animals and what not. This series seems me to dive a bit more than usual in the raising of animals. The main character is a smart student believing that as long as he can study he can get away in any school. Well reality is often harsh. So now he has to deal with education as well as the tough life of living on a farm and raising animals. I will say as far as characters go the MMC was pretty enjoyable to watch. But not just him the characters that he surronded himself with were all refreshing and a joy to watch. As the series dives deep into the aspect of live…

Silver Spoon tells a very human tale, in an asian society of high pressure to excel in school, our MC hacchiken wants to escape so he goes to the countryside to attend a highschool there. There, his world is shook upside down as he experiences a very different life. He has to wake up at 5am, do a crazy amount of physical labour and work intimately with animal poop. But this story is more than just that. This anime delves into the philosophy of farming, what would you consider right or wrong for farm animals. The different philosophies on how to raise animals and what is cruel. It has opened my eyes to the big world of farming. These are what the show talks about to progress the story, but it has so much more to offer than just that. The characters. They are all fucking hilarious. Every…

When they said Anime can be anything, they really did mean that. Gin no Saji (Silver Spoon) is a slice of life, coming of age comedy anime about a boy who enters into an Agricultural school. The boy, Hachiken, is not your typical Agricultural school student. While most are there due to their families having some relation to farming, Hachiken is a city boy through and through, having little to no experience with the everyday dealings of the farmer’s kids. Essentially, Gin no Saji depicts him adjusting to this, as well as fitting into the mould. I feel that I really should praise the story of this anime. In short, Gin no Saji was something completely new and fresh for me to watch, without the typical cliche situations and developments. Every episode, I was looking forward to how the anime…

Gin no Saji is an outstanding series that will warm your heart and give you deep introspection into how you live your life. This has been the slice of life anime that I have been looking for. I rarely get the fulfillment that this show has given to me. Gin no Saji has interesting and very likeable characters, so much so that I found myself routing for them throughout the series. Hachiken (the main character) is easy to relate and through his dialogue gives some deep insights on life lessons, social issues, and morality that is discussed in the show. This show could have easily fallen into "cops outs" and cheap answers to the questions that it raises; but to my surprise, it deeply examines them and gives a thoughtful perspective to the themes of the show (life goals, personal background, a…
