Honestly I get what people are saying about the whole show being a Honda ad, but... guys, gals, and other pals, it's an anime. If you try to take an anime seriously, it's not gonna go well.
Super Cub is a sweet story about Koguma, a high schooler who decides to pick up a Super Cub-model motorcycle, and how it affects her life. She meets Reiko, who may or may not be a friend who could be more than a friend, but the two of them hit it off and enjoy riding their Cubs together, even deciding to go on long, unplanned trips with them and also not being incredibly smart about it (but let's face it, if they were smart, we wouldn't really have an anime protag, would we?
I see the story as a young woman who finds a hobby to be passionate about, and she in turn finds friendships and fun doing a th…

Back in the Before Times, there was a really fun Biker Girl anime called Bakuon! The Cute Girls Doing Things genre was pumping out so many titles that some people saw this and decided to pass. It’s unfortunate, because this is quite a good show. Another Girls on Motorcycles anime- but a very different thing to Bakuon.
Rather than a bubbly goofball; this one is about a girl who apparently has nothing at all- parents are gone and she lives in the town’s only public housing allotment- which is a couple of blocks up on a hill from a country road. She is a gloomy and quiet character, and the general mood of the show reflects this feeling in the early episodes. Koguma has a long and grueling bicycle ride to school, and an idea to purchase a motorcycle to make that easier is this anime’s hook……

(Actual score - 8.5/10)
Overall, it was a great experience that, vibes-wise, I had no issues with - however, from an objective point of view, there were a few small-ish issues that I feel like I have to mention.
ARTSTYLE
- Good; it reminded me of an oil painting, with less emphasis on "realistic" look of many elements in the background (especially when seen from a distance) and instead focusing on the general presentation being cohesive. Also, I feel like it was done on purpose to create a specific "look" for this anime, rather than to cut corners wherever possible - and I think that way because (as I will mention shortly) designs shared the same characteristics.
- For close-ups of various elements on screen (f…

Honestly, just peaceful. That's what I was looking for. A slow-pace slice-of-life. The story is simple, and yes, the main character is kind of blunt, but then you got Reiko, the second main character, which is one of the best anime characters I've seen. She's so cool. The animation is poor CGI, but you don't care about that. You just enjoy the sceneries and what a simple item like a Super Cub can offer you. Freedom. Enjoyment. Companion. If you want something to relax watching, this is a great option. They made me wanna take my Nmax 155 and travel as far as I can.

Super Cub was a surprisingly fun anime. It was a super slow moving and relaxing Iyashikei anime, added to the pile of other Iyashikei like Aria the Animation or Flying Witch, among many others. These anime typically add like one or two gimmicks to make them seem different, but the appeal is always the same; helping you relax and unwind. If it put you to sleep then it kind of did its intended job. It’s probably the only genre in which you can say that. In this series the “twist” is that the main girl, Koguma, buys a motorcycle at the start, and then discovers a deep love for riding. She also makes friends with another girl that rides named Reiko, and beyond that there’s not much more to say other than it’s not intense, or action packed, or super dramatic, or even that funny. It’s just relax…

As a motorcyclist who's spent years stepping out of my shell, Super Cub really hits home. It perfectly captures that feeling—the first ride, the initial taste of freedom on two wheels, the adrenaline of a close call, and the gradual journey of an introvert finding their space in the world. The show nails the little moments that resonate with anyone who's experienced that growth, and for me, it just hits different. It's more than just a ride; it's about finding yourself along the way.
The story itself isn’t the most unique or groundbreaking. If you're looking for a totally fresh plot, this might not be it. But for fans of the genre or anyone who enjoys a solid coming-of-age story, it hits all the right beats. The art style, on the other hand, is super unique. It’s something I haven’t seen…

I don't have fancy words for anime reviews that make me sound smart and sophisticated so most of the time i don't leave any. I figure "I'm no expert" and move along. That is not the case with this one.
You see... I am an expert. Due to health issues i spent over a decade housebound with no independence. I had no parents, no money, no friends or hobbies nor any ability to have goals for the future. My own "Days of nothingness." I couldn't afford the mobility scooters that cost thousands of dollars and aren't covered by insurance, so i was dependent on the occasional outing where someone would push me in a wheelchair. Then... my life changed. I got a seated e-scooter.
This anime captures so perfectly what it's like to experience that moment the sun peers over the horizon after a long seem…

I'm rewatching it for the 3rd time.
I really liked the use of classical music, which is great for Koguma's (Protagonist) daily life.
The motorcycle sound effects are good. Although it's not totally perfect, as in Initial D for example, but it's in the green bar of Acceptable.
The switch from gray to light colors with saturation expressed the world Koguma sees very well.
This paragraph contains a slight SPOILER, but nothing to get in the way: Her relationship with Reiko progresses naturally, and although the two are an unusual case, or probably rare in real life, it's very interesting to see their lifestyles, desires and wants.
I liked how the characters are stable and have a real, calm outlook on their lives. They're looking for something better, but they accept and live for the prese…

Wasn't that bad of a watch, maybe as good as an advertisement can get (sigh). Somehow, I even found myself searching for a super cub online, turns out they sell for a few thousand euro, not that bad. Anyway, I think no point made in the show is that specific to the cub, as it's just simply a feature of most if not all light motorcycles (low gas usage, customizability, ...). Heck, these girls might as well get a bicycle for what it's worth, though I acknowledge Koguma tried cycling uphill once and was traumatized for life, so she bought the cub.
Otherwise, if you can get past Honda's "subliminal" messaging, this empty husk of an anime can sometimes get quite cozy. It's as cozy as watching a fireplace slowly burn, mind you, but that's still not without value I think. I didn't drop it is wha…

This is one of those super-slow pleasant to watch anime. As such it won't be to everyone's taste. There's no over-arching drama or suspense, no bad guys to be overcome or romances to ship, it's just someone taking those few steps to get out of a rut and find a little extra something to enjoy in their life, and the decision they made to enable that. It's probably a pretty decent advertisement for mopeds type bikes too.
The animation is fine, nothing exceptional but it doesn't let the show down either.
The music is slow, gentle, relaxing and on point.
The voice acting is again pleasant, nothing really stand out but no-thing that grates either and honestly if something did "stand-out" it wouldn't be in keeping for the show type. Not standing out is sort of the point.
I saw someone else like…

After overstimulating myself, it was good to switch into something relaxing.
I also lived on my own on the countryside at a really young age, and I can relate to all of this, surviving, getting a vehicle, makig freinds, small trips, living a life with little money, cheap solutions, and this anime makes you entretained about the smallest and simplest things like a helmet in such a beautiful way that makes you care so much about the main character's helmet situation.
Definetly not an anime I'll go nerdy on, but that's exactly the point of it, this anime inspired me to slow down in life, and enjoy more of the little things, instead of always trying to move fast, it's not a masterpiece of a story, but it doesn't have to be.
Only think I don't like it's how it ends, I felt the need of something…

THE GOOD:
Nice visuals? Check. Laid back atmosphere? Check. Good vibes? Check.
Despite being a "Honda ad", this looked like it could become one of my favourite slice-of-life anime...
THE MEH:
...until ep. 5, when things started going downhill (ironically... if you watched the show, you know what I mean). First of all, there's a noticeable drop in production quality. Not the end of the world, it's a common pattern in many shows after the first few episodes. But at the same time, the story also takes a worrying turn. The Cub, which was initially described just as a passion for Koguma and Reiko, appears for the first time as an obsession: Reiko's goal with his bike is not only obviously unrealistic, but she is completely unprepared for it AND puts herself in danger to achieve it. First red f…

Alright, so I watched this Honda ad anime primarily because it was available with English and Japanese dual subtitles, so to begin with it was more of a learning exercise than a choice based in pure pleasure, but I did find it charming. Something about the characters just got me. I like that we sort of casually deal with poverty, it's funny that every episode is about Buying More Accessories For My Honda Super Cub, and the long-haired girl in particular is really cute and fun to watch.
I wasn't that impressed because ultimately, it's a fairly standard slice of life anime that faded into the background while I played Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links on the side (something that absolutely defeated the point of the dual subs thing, because girl I was not paying enough attention to reading the Japanese),…

"You Meet the Nicest People on a Honda" - The Hondells in 1965
The little Cub, is not just a mere transport tool for getting people from A to B, but it brings new discoveries, new locations, new people, and of all, new experiences. And this is exactly what this anime demonstrates beautifully.
The anime depicts our introverted, grey orphan heroine Koguma, who cycles everyday to school in the small, uneventful, rural town of Hokuto in the Yamanashi, who one day, after seeing her fellow classmate riding to school in a scooter, decides to take the first leap of change by impulsively looking at cheap mopeds. While most were out of her budget, the shop owner sells her the cheapest Honda Super Cub, a 50cc modped for 10,000 yen (63 euros, 52 pounds, or 66 USD at the time of writing). And thus, h…

If you want an anime that's just completely inoffensive, relaxing and you can have on as background noise, then Super Cub is a decent anime to watch. I finished this anime which some points I did question why I was still watching it but ultimately it was a decent watch. If you want an anime that has lots going on... or even something going on then you'll probably hate this anime because probably the most eventful episode is when Koguma gets a summer job in 1 episode to afford some stuff for her cub. Wouldn't watch it again personally but I was ok.

A great portrayal of depression and serene moments of discovery. The girl starts with no parents or friends, but discovers her interest and constantly finds new places to go. The plot takes it one event and moment at a time, so its very sympathetic and patient with sadness. The direction of the scenes is quite clear, the backgrounds can be subdued but detailed and realistic, and the orchestral music is inspired. There are many moments and artwork of genuine realism which can be rare in anime. A very elegant presentation, except for the animation.
The animation is usually quite bad, despite the detail being high in everything. Most images look great, but the character acting is the most clumsy part of the presentation. The animation is inconsistent and wonky in volume, the frame count is q…

Super Cub’s embrace of a spirit of adventure bringing light to a dull life isn’t unique, but it brings across that spirit in a way that’s uniquely relatable to the average person. While most narratives of this sort focus on some form of splendor or natural beauty punctuating the journey, Super Cub fully ignores the destination in favor of the journey. Centered around a boring, bland small town punctuated with browns and grays, every adventure Koguma takes is a deeply mundane struggle expanded into a twenty minute episode of television to illustrate the way in which her newfound hobby has brought a little more meaning into her life.
CGI in anime is forever a controversial topic, but in my opinion nobody does it better than Super Cub. while it still carries a general stiffness and brittle f…

In the opening, Koguma describes herself as having nothing, no friends, no parents, no money. At the end of the anime, after she makes “friends,” she repeats this exact line (including that she has no friends!!!) but adds that she now has a cub. What was the point of her spending time with the other characters then??
Koguma is a very flat MC with her only qualities being that she is self-centered and likes her cub. That’s it. My biggest issue with this show is Koguma’s treatment of Shii, who is supposed to be her friend. Koguma and Reiko, the other cub owner, tell Shii they’ll only come visit her at her family’s cafe if the coffee is free. She gives them free coffee and snacks all the time because she admires them, but when the girls go to Koguma’s house, Koguma gets upset that they use…

Just the facts. This anime is a gem. Maybe a diamond in the rough, but a gem. It is an outstanding slice of life. There is iyashikei. There are cute girls coming-of-age and growing into fine young women. Koguma, Reiko, and Shii are the nicest people! And it is not a spoiler to say there will be a happy ending. Highly recommended. For many, it will be a masterpiece. Yes, it is one non-stop ad for Honda Super Cubs. As the classic ads said: "You meet the nicest people on a Honda."
MAL wants more info for this review to be published, so: After you watch Super Cub, you will,
A. Rush out to get your motorcycle license and buy your own Super Cub.
B. Discover that the manga and light novels are not available in English, forcing you to resort to those websites...or brush up on your French, or le…

Super Cub is an anime that I initially passed over when it first aired. I was watching other shows at the time, so I didn't find time for it. All I knew about it was that it was based on a light novel and supposedly a gigantic advertisement for motorbikes called Super Cubs. But I was bored one day and wanted to watch something new, so I wound up watching Super Cub on the FUNimation app on my Roku—the English dubbed version, to be more specific—and found that I liked it more than I thought I would. The story is pretty simple: Koguma is a girl who lives a lonely life. Her parents aren't around, she doesn't have much money, doesn't have hobbies, and just lives day to day. As far as Koguma is concerned, her life is dull and colorless. One day, she finds herself drawn to a Honda Super Cub being…
