I was expecting something different, but I found something quite generic.
At the time of its release, I watched a few episodes (I don't remember exactly how many) mostly because of the hype surrounding Sword Art Online. However, since I didn't like the premise very much and realized there was practically no focus on the characters we already knew from the main series, I ended up dropping this spin-off quickly. Recently, I decided to give it another chance and watch it all more calmly, thinking that maybe my opinion could change over time. Unfortunately, the result was more or less what I expected: I found it quite bad.
Basically, the story follows four characters participating in a Battle Royale within Gun Gale Online, the same game that appears in the second arc of the main series. On p…

It's still enjoyable and could have been better, but the blatant wokisto neofeministo paedophile overhaul (found in most adaptations of good works) makes the anime hard to stomach.
It could have been worth a 7, but the 5 wins out because of this ostentatious ideological vomit.
A false complex justifying the main character.
There is nothing realistic about the main and secondary characters.
The characters are therefore developed with a realism.
No originality.
Throughout the story, we are led to believe that there is real danger generating tension, when in fact it is all just hot air!
The animation, on the other hand, is pretty good in my opinion.
I watched it until the end because, as I said, it's still enjoyable, but I was hoping for a more adult storyline, and in that respect, it was v…

This anime is the worst Sword Art Online I've ever seen. It's amazing how annoying the main character is. She has a height complex that makes no sense. Most women would love to be her height so they could be models, but she is antisocial because she is tall and has an unbearable personality while playing. I am writing this now that I am finishing the second season, which I think is worse than the first. I am even lowering my rating as I write this review...
The characters that accompany the protagonist are interesting up to Pitohui, M, her friend, but LLENN is unbearable. There's a scene where she's squeamish about using a knife, or she's just plain boring. I'd say that at the end of this season she gets better, but in season 2 I still find her unbearable, although my opinion has changed…

Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online, a successful and engaging spin-off of Sword Art Online. Overall, this anime is very well done and has nothing to envy from the original series since they chose the game Gun Gale Online to make this spin-off. And "GGO" is one of my favorite universes in the Sword Art Online series.
Regarding the characters, Karen, named LLENN in the game, is endearing in her little loli avatar in a pink outfit with her FN P90 weapon of the same color, which she affectionately nicknames "P-chan." What's interesting is seeing who's behind the username and avatar in question. This gives a more realistic look, which isn't always seen in the first two seasons of "SAO." This is the case for Pitohui and M. The animation and character design are fluid and remain beaut…

6.0/10 ~ Best thing that ever came out of SAO
I remember going to Japan in 2018 and it was crazy how much this show was being advertised as it was just airing or about to air, I ended up watching this right after the conclusion of the series and decided to rewatch this as I forgot most of what happened when I booted up season 2 today, which... says a bit that I coudlnt remember much past ' Pink bunny girl is fast and pew pew', after finishing this season for a 2nd time, I foolishly went through and rewatched SAOII, atleast the first 15 ep that ft GGO, and wow was this a complete step up from SAO lmfao.
GGO probably because it lacks Kirito, Harems, and Incest, is probably the best thing that came out of the SAO franchise, with Accel world being probably a 2nd best, but anime wise was nev…

i watched it because LLENN is cute, the darker themes werent a detriment to that but they also werent all that interestingly done in my opinion
they sparked little interest in me but i wouldnt say they were bad, will probably watch season 2, it was definitely better than SAO, that i can say for sure
art style was maybe generic but not in a bad way
the characters didnt feel shallow but i wouldnt say they felt deep either, this is your run of the mill decent shonen with enough things for some people to enjoy
if you think you might like a video game rpg shooter vr anime with a cute girl and some darker themes, you may want to try episode 1 to see what you feel about it

Mannn... This is such a nostalgic trip for me personally. This is my first ever seasonal anime I ever watch, so I might be biased but this anime is awesome. Mind you that I never watch any other SAO franchise. So my review is also gonna be very different from people who is a die hard fan of the franchise. All I know about SAO is that if you die in game, you die in real life too, but with this anime its not really the case, kind of. After doing a little research I found out that GGO is a game where SAO 2 take place. So with that in mind, this is like an alternate universe or something? But they also reference the original SAO in here, yeah idk about the timeline.
The story take place in 2026 where VR games are all the rage, now with more safety included. Follow a college student with heigh…

I just finished rewatching it for the second time since it came out, probably about 5 or 6 years ago since the last time I watched it.
For some scenes and storylines I even forgot about them.
Since there is a second season, I watched it again to find out how the storyline developed from the beginning.
The first thing I want to say is, I don't really like female MCs, but since this is still part of SAO I watched it.
For character design, graphics, and others, I think there is no need to question the quality, it is already very good and does not reduce the value of the previous SAO Anime at all.
The downside for me is the storyline itself, I like battle anime, but having a female main character makes me dislike it a little.
And what I don't like the most is Pitohui, I don't understand why…

Overall:
Ah yes, a girl played a VR game and is having fun in an immersive VR game. As an isekai junkie, I am set to watch all isekai. This is one of those that explore the trope. And I would say, this exceeded my expectations a little bit. I put this in a "Pretty good" tier. It is a spin-off from the granddad of isekai afterall
Short conclusion: 8/10
Driving deeper
Art: Nice to some degree, not breathtaking by any means. The effects are nice and flashy, it served its purpose. Pretty good, 8/10
Character: Nice development, with some decent twists, and some decent backstory. not much to say, it is standard by most degrees. But well, who wouldn't enjoy cute girls doing cute things? 8/10
Plot: I would say, it is relatively standard for a VR game isekai, the MC enjoys the game and keeps g…

I cannot describe how utterly disappointing this shit is. I had this hyped up by my friends as GGO but actually written well and was super excited bc i love all the worlds in the SAO series just hate the plots. I want to clarify to anyone looking to watch this, and with a similar mindset i had, this is 1000 times worse than anything written in SAO. It starts of with a great concept as any of the other stories and characters you could see being interesting, but dont worry, this series does just as much to throw it all away. My first point is the sheer amount of pedophile/loli shit represented in this, its literally 75% of the humor of the entire show. There are very questionably aged relationships and idolization of childlike partners. My next point is the characters. There is not a SINGLE…

Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online is not an alternative to Sword Art Online. Instead it assumes you've watched the first two seasons of SAO and is simply a story set in the same universe. That means that instead of the story being about Kirito and friends, it is about a girl with a height complex who plays in Gun Gale Online as a pink loli and talks to her gun.
The story initially is not bad and the plot makes sense. As the anime goes on however, it starts taking GGO way too seriously and treating it as if it's real life instead of what it truly is, a game. This causes many scenes to feel very unnatural since people care way too much about dying in a game. It then goes on to try to raise the stakes even more by bringing death in real life into the mix but this time it makes n…

Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online,
when i say that i like this anime people may say that, "why do we need to watch an alternative sequel from SAO?" but i thing this anime was better than any of the main SAO Series story. Although the SAO anime was good but this were even much more better because of "GUN", "but isn't SAO 2 also have GUN?" Yes, indeed, but the story were still the follow up of the first one and doesn't go deeper into the world of GGO. With this anime, it give more indepth know-how about the world itself in detail with less real world connection and more into the VR world itself. And the main character also more lovable and adorable(she's an adult with smol character ok not like she's loli) than the Kirito that always had a girl everywhere-anywhere(im not jelly).…

Straight to the question, it is deserves to be watched?
- Yes, but first 5 episode are kinda deception.
Why?
- Because the mood is different in the start, it is looking more like soft drama, but after 5th episode is starting to explosion by interesting replicas. Don't be focused over the animation itself, read/listen carefully what the characters saying.
Well if you want to watch for the animation and drawing itself, well you probably want to skip, but if you want to hear some funny joke or some cliche. You can try it.
ps. You will not see non of original characters of SAO, you gone hear only few names and that it is all. It is not typical SAO anime. Yea after all it is alternative :)
any way

For starters I think that you should try this if you don't care about original SAO
You can watch this without watching anything else! It happens after season 2 and main events there are what brings conflict in motion. Still they dont go too deep in what happened and You most likely won't even like both this and SAO. I list what it is NOT so I don't have to mark it as spoiler because I want those that think watching it to see this.
GGO isn't Harem. There is no Kirito or male MC altogether here.
GGO is smaller scale. Its not about saving world or Huge amount of players.
Maybe my biggest plus for this anime is that main antagonist is not pedophile that tries to take part of MC's harem. Characters here are more human and not antagonized overly. Some characters have some unhealthy aspects. I…

I find Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online incredibly fascinating. Unlike most virtual reality stories, GGO actually explores video games in thoughtful ways beyond just a flashy action spectacle. And yes, it has the spectacle as well.
GGO is far different, and better than the rest of the Sword Art Online franchise; for starters, you don’t even need to watch the originals to watch this spinoff. There are no related characters, no Kirito. The only similarity they share is the world they take place in. The original SAO is mentioned a few times and surprisingly the new series writer frequently criticizes the old one. GGO focuses on the in-depth details of its game world and the friendships between the cast, rather than the melodrama and cheesy romance of the original.
Taking place…

tl;dr: An anime that has good action but is pretty weak beyond that.
This is a spin-off to the incredibly well known VRMMO series Sword Art Online that’s specifically centered around the game focused on in the second season, Gun Gale Online. The connection is only that the setting is the same however, and thus beyond recognizing some cameos you won’t miss anything if you watch this without having watched SAO II. The novel series this is based on was written by a completely different author, one who didn’t seem to particularly care about trying to give the anime a similar feel, and thus it’s ultimately an incredibly different anime from the main SAO series.
In terms of how it’s better, the action is noticeably better than the action in the main series. It goes pretty in depth into the var…

Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online
This show is can be for lot of people. If you wanted the Phantom Bullet arc to be a little more tactical and gun based, you should give this a shot. If you are not a fan of the main series, you probably wont enjoy this either.
Characters – 7/10
There are some really good characters in this series, like M and Pito. Pito has complicated beliefs and passions that contradict with the energy of the main characters. She is mixed in as the teacher as well as the antagonist, in a mostly fun story with little conflict. M reflect off of Pito in a semi-stereotypical way, but his expertise in weapons makes him very fun to figure out as the story goes on. The main characters Karen and Miyu are typical protagonists; nothing to hate or be intrigued by.

SAO2 did it right having femboys, you lose the only good part of it here so what's the use?
Seriously though, each character is so shallow. Writing is just frustratingly bad. There are parts where they try to make things seem like a big deal, but we're just watching some people play a game, which would be okay if they didn't desperately want it to be more than that. This is better watched imagined as an unscripted let's play than a written story... It's sad, the only enjoyment I got off this was fantasising about playing a game like GGO. Like the imagination the show led me to was better than any of the writing here. The issue with that is I also get that from the rest of SAO with slightly more competent writing. Why make this when SAO2 is in the same universe and has femboys!?

From the get go I was really turned off by the way they made this all bright and warm compared to the brooding original. The complex also seemed rather overplayed -- to be an almost turn off. I guess everyone has their reason to want a new self though--even if it's unintentionally catfishing. Still friends don't care about visuals as much.
Didn't realize until years later that this is kind of a doujin of sorts so decided to give it a try from a fresh glance. It was a rough start for sure (took 2 or 3 restarts to actually make it through it.), but I heard even a lot of people who didn't even enjoy the original series rave about how much potential it had-- comparing to the Aincrad arc. After getting passed the 3rd episode though, I see what they meant. It's an easy watch.
Sure there wasn't…

I watched Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online. Just to clarify, this is the single-cour anime which aired during Spring 2018. Here are my thoughts:
This is just a short review strictly addressing the SAO Alternative: GGO anime. Nothing I've written here is targeted towards the rest of the SAO franchise. For the record, I have seen (a few years ago) the second season of SAO where the GGO setting is featured. Again, I'm not going to discuss SAO as a whole, just the SAO Alternative: GGO anime. Some people have really strong opinions about SAO and I'm not looking to start arguments.
SAO Alternative: GGO is unique from the rest of the SAO anime in that it is made by Studio 3Hz, instead of the usual A-1 Pictures. The visuals of this anime could be better, but they weren't bad either.…
