I'll keep this short since I don't have many thoughts on this anime.
I watched this anime about 5 years ago and thought it was okay. I mean, I love OP, nonchalant main characters and the main character is definitely that MOST of the time.
I recently decided I'd rewatch it again since it's been a while and holy crap was it awful. I'm not sure if it's from maturity or that my brain was just completely turned off in the past but this anime is a train wreck for only one reason.
The animation and fights are actually pretty decent. The side characters are whatever, they're cliche and nothing special but at the very least there's some guys in the main cast so it's not just a harem.
The problem is the sister, Miyuki. Miyuki is unbearable, she's an awful character and I have no idea if it's ju…

I remember "The Irregular at Magic High School" (2014) as an anime that became hugely successful during its original run (more than ten years ago!) thanks to its worldbuilding, exposition-heavy dialogue, and stoic protagonist, who is one of the most shameless "Gary Stu" the medium has ever produced... and that's saying something.
This series has aged terribly. Without the hype surrounding it, its constant pacing issues become painfully obvious, as do its relentless attempts to make the hero (Tatsuya) look cool in virtually every episode and the disturbingly tolerated relationship between the main siblings, whose incestuous attraction is evident from the very beginning and never really tries to hide itself.
But the most unbelievable part—the truly inconceivable part—is that the author som…

Action packed, drama, mystery, along with good artwork, music and story line. Keeps one engaged, engrossed, and entertained. A great combination of art, science, philosophy and psychology rolled into one story line. The close brother sister relationship is endearing, not creepy. It is a great plot device that the only thing that enrages a cool operator and causes him to lose his cool is a threat to his beloved little sister. It is wonderful the trust she has in him, and the love he has for her. Despite, some confusion over inheritance, and lines of succession in the family business, he still cares for her. He is not JR, and this is not Dynasty.

Bare to none spoilers, just vaguely catching the feeling here watching it years back :
Been a long time since I watched this, Watched it about 7 years ago on some b-tier anime streaming service.
I remember the gadgets and magic, which they use to duel at this school between aprentices, being pretty epic and entertaining to watch. Otherwise it's a lot of slice of life, which isn't rly set up in a too meaningful way, other than that the main character walks through it pretty badass because hes gifted at magic, hes the "Irregular at magic high school".
The characters are vague and their relations to one another and interplay too, it's rly primarely about prestige and the fight for it, being displayed as a sort of "king of the hill",
but with less real drama than you would expect from a hig…

a competently written show with a relatively low amount of peak low moments. the main character while being very OP by any measure doesn't trivialize every encounter and often intentionally defers to let others handle things for him. specifically, the show uses a magic based power system with a 8/10 hard rules rating. meaning it's based in hard logic with extremely little wiggle room, very little cannot be explained using rules. the main character is a relative outlier having little magic in the measurable magic system the show uses, but has an ability set that is as of my current understanding, not accessible to anyone else.
ignoring the incest subplot, which is going to be hard for some people, the show offers action, intrigue, and quality animation for the entire duration. that isnt a…

ChatGPT told me I should love this show based on my past preferences (its reasoning is here: https://chatgpt.com/share/6897894e-9288-8006-9088-e25d6b2f9c63), and to its credit this show *does* have many things I typically enjoy: A non-whiny OP protagonist that hides his power level, a serial (non-episodic) structure with political machinations, cute girls fawning over the MC, and mystery elements. All of that is great in theory, but the execution is lacking somewhat.
One of my biggest issues was that I had a difficult time understanding WTF was going on. I could understand the basic gist well enough: for each arc the show starts in a school setting, but something isn't right. Terrorists are plotting something! Eventually there's a direct clash which the good guys inevitably win.
But bey…

I should start with a disclaimer: I had rated this a 9 before, but rewatching it now I'm giving it an 8, which is still high. I don't think 8 would be an "objective" rating of the show, it's just what I'm rating it given my overall interests and given the fact that I can filter out what I don't care about.
What does it do well?
* OP MC: this is how you make one that isn't trash.
* Novelty: Relatively novel approach to established concepts ("magic as technology" is not new, but the way it's approached in the series is not exhausted either).
* Technicals: Animation is good-ish, sound is good-ish (I really like a few of the OPs/EDs), characters and designs are fine.
* Plot: it is good-ish, has interesting arcs that don't take too many or too few episodes, the progression makes sense to me, a…

Alright, let’s be honest: this anime has absolutely nothing unique about it. There’s really no reason for anyone to watch it, unless it’s literally your first anime ever—then maybe you’ll enjoy it.
Let’s start with the general idea: the anime is about a protagonist who’s basically the strongest at everything. He never loses, and it all feels extremely forced, like a child writing the plot. It’s basically: “Hmm, let me create an insanely overpowered character who got misjudged during evaluations, haha, I’m a genius.” Even the whole discrimination theme feels incredibly forced and illogical—it makes no sense most of the time.
The only somewhat decent aspect is the futuristic setting, with things like a third world war having happened. But even that is nothing that any person couldn’t come…

This is the anime adaption of a very well done light novel series. Great world building, intricate characters and story. The first season covers books 1-4 and 6-7. The adaption of the first two arcs is quite good actually. Introduces the world, the characters, the magic mechanics and the social dynamic. And then it drops it. They skip some of the more insightful backstory and emotional development in volume 5 and completely butcher volumes 6-7 (rewriting the story, badly). As a result, it seems off in many places. Like something absolutely incredible happens one moment.. and then it's Tuesday. And if you pay attention, you are just left wondering why nobody bats an eye.
So, should you watch this? Depends, do you like reading? It's a really good primer on what to expect, but the last arc i…

Don't let the score of 10 fool you, this anime is meant for people who have read the light novels, as a standalone is is very bad, but this is not a stand alone anime, it is basically a few of the dynamic and action/comedy/cool scenes from the book animated as an accompaniment for the books. The books when combined with the anime is a masterpiece as they give cool visuals with an in depth understanding of an amazing world. My recommendation, read the bad translation novels, (bad translations are key with beautifully designed worlds as the structure of the language the words used by characters and the author in different parts are very much a part of the story. The good language translations level out a whole dimension to the story.

To be clear this show is an acquired taste some people may love it some people will hate it, but I’m in the middle
There’s too much going on for one season and no downtime is my main argument with this show the first arc (high school) that’s fine the second arc (the tournament) again fine but I got a little lost and the final arc (the attack) just threw me purely because there was no gap in between it was one after the other back to back and for me, it was too much for one season
Though it was good and I enjoyed watching it, I just got confused. I didn’t understand the whole attacking thing but maybe it’s just me apart from that the show is pretty good the pacing was a bit too quick like I said with no down time between arcs but maybe that changes
I’ll be watching season two overall 6…

Note: This will be a review of the series in its entirety.
Overview:
"The Irregular at Magic High School" is an anime that is surprisingly difficult to recommend. While the magic school setting is certainly appealing enough, if not particularly original, the series also has a number of highly controversial elements that can and have put off some people altogether, resulting in a series that is highly divisive in the anime community. Even so, if you don't mind highly over-powered protagonists and sisters with very obvious feelings for their brother then this is a series you may very well end up enjoying.
Story & World (7/10):
The series is set in the year 2095, in an alternate version of Earth where magic exists and has been used as a science for more than a century. Unfortunately, this h…

The devil is in the details. What do I mean by that? Simple: while it may look like a well-thought, high-production value, engaging anime on the surface, there's little to no substance to talk about. Oversaturated with made-up fantasy-sci-fi jargon coming out of left field every time a character speaks, the show tries to hide its lack of depth behind a facade of pseudo-intellectual mumbo-jumbo. That's possibly the most annoying thing about the dialogue.
The plot is flat-out boring - with some hints here and there to an overarching narrative, all the way to the underwhelming ending, most of the episodes feel like SOL fillers, which are, ironically, the best parts of the anime, if any else.
I get that they took their time expanding on it over 26 episodes, but it felt way too slow, and the p…

Mahouka is a baffling creature. I think it does a few things quite well - it has a really fun magical high school premise, with a strong running theme, and vaguely science-flavored magic. In many ways it was ahead of its time. Nowadays shows with a premise like that are dime-a-dozen, and it gets some credit for getting there first. I think Mahouka is generally competent in terms of pacing and execution. I can sense that it doesn't linger as long on worldbuilding details or exposition as the novels must have.
Is Mahouka good, then? No. Watchable, sure, but most people won't find the message of the show very agreeable. Tatsuya, our main character, is the strongest, bestest mage alive. Even though people think he's underpowered (an "irregular") secretly he's... well, you get the picture. Mah…

TLDR: They made a lesser version of "A certain Magical Index"
It is with great regret that I say; I have watched every bit of this series to date. Why regret? Because I've watched a better version of it. Our MC, Touma...I mean Tatsuya, attends the first magic high school. His sister, who has incestuous thoughts about him, is a top-class magic user, while he sucks at it, and so is deemed an irregular. (Who else do I know that sucks at magic yet attends a magic school, never mind, it will come back to me.) Except for when the plot calls for magic, and then, all of a sudden, he is the most powerful Jedi there ever was. He is smart, good at hand-to-hand combat, can negate other spell casters, reverse all injuries even if someone is dead, disassembles your weapons remotely, has just about all…

This anime is something else. The plot isn't great. The premise of the story isn't really a problem. The MC that does get bullied doesn't even care about the bullying and it doesn't effect him in anyway. Moreover, the only problem the MC has is that he cant be in multiple places at once. He is too broken. It's not like One-Punch Man where its actually funny and somewhat unique. The MC in this one is too powerful for there to be any relevance. There isn't any challenge. It's like watching a professional soccer player play against a bunch of 3 year olds. Congrats I guess? Do you want a cookie? The relationship between the brother and sister is also just unnecessary. Like no. Nothing really makes up for it. The magic system is cool but the MC makes it irrelevant. The animation is subpar and s…

Boringly bad.
I have watched a lot a trash anime especially fantasy, I love nothing better than a power fantasy, mildly interesting premise type show to watch while I’m cooking/cleaning. However, this show is not either of those, it’s very incoherent even though it is only trying to do two things: a fantasy plot and a dramatic plot. It doesn’t do either well and doesn’t have any other redeeming qualities, it’s not even entertainingly bad, just boringly so. Here’s a list of a few of the issues I had:
- no plot, it feels like one is written in when there needs to be one and it’s usually pretty boring because it’s undermined by the fact that there are no rules defining this world so its rules defining conflict are rewritten easily to suite the situation.
- overpowered MC has no personality (…

Most human beings can be bucketed as good “people analyzers” or good “thing/idea analyzers.” You can think of the former as a feminine trait and the latter as masculine. I don’t mean that the buckets are exclusive to gender: I am a male “person analyzer.”
When an intelligent “person analyzer” is in charge of producing an anime, that anime generally excels in realistic behavior in its characters. It tends to avoid over-exaggeration or caricature to get a point across. Viewers often have to intuit or figure out what somebody is thinking or feeling from context clues of body language. This is because realistic behavior doesn’t spell a person’s inner self straight out: that’s not how people act. We all wear personae and masks that change from situation to situation. Anime that lean towards…

Isekai protagonists being OP and worshiped by NPC's isn't anything new. In-fact, we enjoy watching Isekai shoes because of the OP power fantasy coming true in front of our eyes.
But it's how the OPMC character is written, can make or break the show.
It's necessary to introduce the character to his skills, along with the viewers, so together we get into the groove of things. We see the MC learn to control his abilities, use them in OP manner and wow himself and us, the viewers. MC grows, getting stronger, more sure of himself and his skills over time. It's all fun.
It's also necessary to not write a smug, douche or cucked OPMC character, because those are the worst traits you could possibly have for an Isekai character.
"In Another World With My Smartphone" is a good example of a shit,…

LIGHT NOVELS ARE GARBAGE
Mahouka (short version of the title) was the next in line to be considered the best LN ever made, claims made by the same type of fans who two years ago were saying the exact same things for Sword Art Online (SAO for short). And once again it is proven how the anime fandom refuses to accept light novels as the garbage they are, and on top of that keeps hyping them as masterpieces.
TROLL PREMISE
The first failure comes from the premise itself, which keeps telling you it’s about discrimination. For a society that runs on meritocracy, all mages are rare and gifted. There is little reason for the Weeds to feel bad, if they have powers that place them above every other mundane person. And even the most gifted of them, the Blooms, are acting like they are constantly t…
