The New Gate

Introduction

Trapped with thousands of people in The New Gate, a virtual reality game, the elite player Shinya Kiritani resolves to clear the game and finally return home. However, after he manages to single-handedly defeat the final boss, Shinya is transported to a new world—seemingly indistinguishable from the one he just escaped. Shinya discovers that as long as the game menu and his skills are unchanged, he cannot leave this oddly familiar world. In his search of a way to break out from this new dimensional prison, Shinya encounters Tiera Lucent, a hotel receptionist who happens to be a protégée of Schnee Raizar—one of Shinya's former party members. With this glimmer of hope, Shinya strives to reunite with Schnee and find out the truth about The New Gate. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Just a quick heads up, I did a little digging into this anime... and, well, this anime was produced by the same studio/company involved with the infamous production troubles surrounding "Whisper Me a Love Song", where a significant number of animators allegedly left partway through production amid reports of a toxic working environment. And because apparently that wasn’t enough of a red flag, there have also been reports that young and inexperienced animators including alleged underage workers were brought in to help handle the latter half of the production. With that said, I'll give it this: episode 1 is fine. Episode 1 is the show putting on a nice shirt for the interview. Overpowered MC, cool title drop, shiny setup, I'm thinking "ok, maybe." Then as the story progress the budget just.…

If I were grading this show as a school project, the report card would read "Incomplete". It's your basic over-the-top power fantasy isekai, and in that category it works well enough. Characters and plot are mostly pretty good, and it doesn't rely on pointless fanservice as an appeal crutch, or on trope overuse as a script crutch, or on padding content with lots of mealtime and bath scenes (which has become a pet peeve of mine). On the other hand, there are some glaring weaknesses. It doesn't deliver a complete story; it leaves you hanging at the end by opening up new cans of worms very late, as if the point of the anime is to steer people to the manga. The individual arcs aren't all that coherent with each other, either, and don't flow naturally from one to the next. It does bog down in…

Ahh,another show fallen into the shadow realm of the isekai treatment. OF course sadly with this one,it's not really the only issue i've noticed in it's runtime. For people who only care about the final result... It's MID. hard mid. For those who care for the why, let's get into it: Let's first get the most obvious issue with the show. The animation. It's clearly the isekai treatment. The animation is just horrendous to look at. Plain and simple. The art itself is not really bad.But the animation is just low quality. Now,let's get in another rather obvious issue.Overpowered MC. While this guy's personality isn't as bland as the other guys you usually get,the fact he faces no real struggles at all is a pretty substantial drawback. No struggles means no stakes. No stakes means every piece of acti…

The story was pretty rushed, which wasn't good, because the idea of high humans and their npc's and such was good. The story was okay, until episode 6. Things were about to get really cool with shin getting mad, but Tierra ruined it. The animation isn't really worth writing home about either. Could've been something like the first season of soa, if done correctly. The animation was pretty lazy. Characters were good, except for Tierra, she was a pointless character. They should've concentrated on the story from before the disappearance and saved the after for season 2. Someone might like this, but I doubt it with the way it was half-*****.

An alright but generic story, plagued with awful animation but had moments of promise that will leave the viewers emotional. As someone who hasn’t read the light novels or manga this anime felt like it was generic average isekai boring garbage. That said there were a couple of moments which left me craving more the main being the interaction than subsequent fight between Shinya and Girard. The fight wasn’t done well animation wise however it actually was very effective in tugging on the emotions. Another story telling aspect I really liked was the passage of time, in a somewhat similar yet completely different method to Frieren (big difference in quality I know) seeing Shinya’s interaction with the current generation and his companions from the past proved intriguing. The harem adjac…

The New Gate tackes an interesting possibility regarding the existence of VR MMORPGs, where the game would somehow live on beyond what is intended, and the NPCs continue to live on their lives, naturally expanding the world with no/minimal player input. What it would be like to talk to NPCs that you used to know very well, but now they have gained sentience and have lived a life detached from the game designer's imaginations? There's definitely some good story moments that the anime pulls off with that theme, but it's still a trashy "I can't believe it's not Isekai!" wish fulfillment extravaganza for the most part. It basically ticks most boxes that you would expect for a story featuring overpowered MC with a harem, although it's not as fan service-y as most of its peers. At the very least…

A fun Isekai adventure with MC that isn't annoying. Actually, I was impressed that the writer managed to sneak in an emotional episode later on in the season, leaving me teary eyed. Your mileage may vary, but I have yet to see an Isekai capable of making me shed manly tears. Visually, it's alright, music and SFX are below average (as is common with most anime). But you can follow the story thread properly, and enjoy the hero's journey from start till the end, without feeling confused or angry. Basically, it isn't perfect. There are some plot holes and some issues like the MC deciding to not use his full power intentionally.. for no reason at all. But in the end, I would be lying if I said, I didn't binge watch this anime, which is something I only do when I am enjoying something. 6.5-…

It's really not that bad if you go into it with the appropiate expectations. It's the kind of show you watch to kill some time. The story is nothing new (shocker), the characters arent either, yada yada yada, you know the drill. What I was surprised by is that it does have quite a few moments that made me genuinely chuckle. Furthermore some of the budget was spent on a few flashy, not too shabby looking fight scenes. Really nothing to write home about but for a trashy isekai it's a welcome surprise. There's even a bunch of well known VAs voicing characters. You have your usual jank CGI scenes and bland art style, overused tropes and barely existing story but overall it's more than enough to just turn your brain off and binge. Definitely not a must watch but I've seen worse.

“The New Gate” (finally a short title, I missed those) is what happens when an overused idea meets subpar execution. I’m getting really tired of writing this but… this show is another example of no story and all plot with no long lasting consequences to anyone or anything, and a world that bends over backwards for the MC. Above that, it's so generic that I really couldn't tell You much about the plot or world without being certain that I’m not mixing things up with another show. It's devoid of originality that much. It’s just another self-indulgent fantasy of a cringe 13 year old. That’s me being nice to the show by the way. Before we start I would like to explain something. I will be talking about “plot” and “story”. Many people use those terms interchangeably. I’m not one of those peop…

I don’t like making long reviews, so I’ll keep this brief. It’s not terrible, but it’s definitely borderline bad. While it doesn’t do much justice to the isekai genre, it was engaging enough to follow week by week to see where it was going. It tried its best to take notes from Overlord, but unfortunately, it neither surpassed it nor left a significant mark as a successor, which is disappointing. I expected more from something following in the footsteps of such a standout series, but it ultimately failed to deliver. I haven’t watched Sword Art Online yet, but from what I’ve seen, this anime seems to be attempting to replicate Kirito’s vibe—and honestly, it falls short. This anime serves as a good example of what happens when amateur producers don’t handle isekai properly. It teeters on th…

A good light novel story doesn't mean it would be a good anime. The New Gate is a prime example of this unfortunate reality. They butchered the story so badly that I had to drop it initially and only picked it up again after a couple of months. When I finally finished it, I was left in despair, feeling as though I was watching a mere shadow of the original narrative. It was clear that they were trying to squeeze the story into just 12 episodes, which resulted in many crucial plot points being glossed over or completely ignored. The pacing was rushed, and character development suffered immensely; key relationships and motivations were either omitted or poorly conveyed. It felt as if the studio prioritized flashy action scenes over the intricate storytelling that made the light novel so com…

[09/27/2024] I loved the season finale of The New Gate. The anime is good and I'm looking forward to the second season. I wasn't expecting anything and I was surprised. The New Gate is a very good Isekai style anime that proved to be good throughout the 12 episodes. Shin proved to be a very charismatic protagonist and so did all the other characters. The season finale surprised me a lot and I liked it enough. I'm waiting for the second season if by chance there is a second season. The story is not unique and yet it surprised me even though I am not a big fan of this genre of anime. Yes, the art style is appropriate for the story. The protagonist is a complete character and he has no flaws and many strengths. The characters did not react realistically, after all, we are talking about an an…

We all know, that objective speaking most Isekai are not that good, since they repeat the same stereotypes and story types over and over. But we are here despite this, since we can still enjoy them, so that is what I will base my reviews on. This Isekai is one, that I have enjoyed a lot. First I was worried, that this will just be an clone of Sword Art Online, but it was only in the first 20 seconds, to set the setting and after this, the Anime was quite nice. It is one of that Isekai, that I could have watched in one go and I wished it would contiue further than just 12 Episodes, but that is just how it is always. The Anime was not that remarkable in terms of story, art, music and so on, but still quite enjoyable, probably a good to go one for every Iseaki fan. A big Minus is the missin…

Watch it because there is no watching list. This anime actually has a potential, but too much fan service and rushed story makes it (really) bad. There is no character development either. I finished it just because i kept telling myself it will be good, but nah i was wrong. The MC is an overpowered character, typical isekai genre with bunch of huge boobs women on his side. Actually, I want to highlight how over-sexualized the women's body in here. I'm ok with less clothes and boobs and such for a women. It's normal. But, as you can see on this anime, the studio's drawing the boobs, thighs, and all those lightning on the women's body in so much detail. And forgot that there are bunch of design error. As you can see on how much difference the art is from episode 1 to 12. Sometimes the eyes…

Having watched this show, while it's fresh on my mind. There is alot going against this show. Based on my opinion, the negatives could be based on the fact that the animation could've been a lot better. I don't want Demon Slayer or Fate levels of animation, that would be a bit too much considering that this show has very few fight scenes. On top of that, the fight scenes themselves are rather short when they do happen. The story is another flavor of Isekai but those are bound to happen just about every season because Isekai Mangas/Light Novels are plentiful yet too boring due to the same formula. Trying to pay attention to the story, it feels like there is a hint of inspiration from Sword Art Online with the twist that the story starts the same way that "In the land of Leadale/Leadale no…

This is one of those "the book was better" situations. I've been reading the manga since around 2020 and i was very hyped for this to come out. Sadly, this anime does not do justice to it's counterpart manga ( I can't speak to the LN) The manga is so much better in every way. The overall story beats, character growth, pacing, and most obvious the art style. All I could think while watching this was "how low was the budget for this?!" It's very unfortunate, but I must say, I do not reccomend you watch this anime. Or at least you should go read the first few chapters and the the first episode to compare. I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed.

The concept of the anime is not bad, inspired by SAO (for the VRMMO concept) an other Isekai animes but with many, many problems... I'm a big fan of Isekai animes and manga and I Honestly think it's tragic to write a bad review on it but I can't recommand this anime for some reasons : The universe / world is totaly unexploited (OK it's game based but we need more informations like SAO). The "plot" is not uninteresting but bad agenced and the characters are not developed enough, the backgound of the MC is not realy described and the side characters are like ghosts. The animation, character design,... are totaly poor (proportions are wrong, bad face animation or expression,...). Due to many errors and the poor animation, the "potentiel" if exist is destroyed. I plan te read the LN, beca…

The New Gate is a concept I subscribe to; however, its execution leaves one wanting (at times) mediocrity. For me, there is enough baked into the premise that held my interest. Similar to Sword Art Online, The New Gate has characters trapped in a video game in a life-or-death situation. After the main character beats the final boss - letting everyone leave the game and return to their homes - he is transported hundreds of years into the game's future. Simply put, the initial pitch of episode 1 resolves as "What would happen after SAO if the main character was still stuck in the game." Fascinating. Intrigued. Hopeful. Sadly, the rest of the show hardly achieves this level of promise. The first couple of episodes are good. I believe the character introductions are solid and the world-bui…

The anime, in general fine, is similar to Sword Art Online, and the story is good. However, the animation was disappointing. Before watching the anime, I had read the manga, which I found enjoyable, but the anime adaptation did not do it justice. The colors used were poor, and the animation quality was particularly bad, which was frustrating given the fantasy, isekai, and magic themes. In a genre that relies heavily on impressive visuals and animation, the subpar animation was a major letdown. The potential for a visually stunning and immersive experience was there, but it was ultimately undermined by the lackluster execution.
