An absolute guilty pleasure anime.

Okay, first up, I'm going to admit it- this series is pure ecchi yuri, practically knocking right on the door of H like a caveman locked out by his pet sabertooth, but it stops just short. You will still see plenty of skin and breasts and plenty of sexuality on display, so be warned. (There's a reason this caught an 18+...) It takes its subject very seriously- so expect the ability of these girls to get their partner off and fast to be on full display.

Valkyrie Drive Mermaid is... well. Filled with very ecchi scenes, even soft porn/border soft hentai if I may, however those scenes felt very unnecessary, dare I say the entire anime would have been less repetitive without them. The scenes felt genuinely too much, as if they were added just for the sake of having ecchi content...
Anyways, regarding the story, it is kinda basic with the classic anime character stereotypes you'd expect on a given character. I went into this anime with zero expectations and left with wanting more.
Overall the anime was a 9/10, the start was a little generic but over time the characters grow on you as the plot progresses. I ended up loving every single quirky character this anime had to offer and I could only wish a season 2 would be made. The designs of the characters are a breath of fresh air especially the way the artists made the puffy lips on all the characters. Another great addition is the breast differences between all of the characters I loved seeing different areola sizes you don't get much of that in anime let alone hentai.

There is a virus that turns girls into weapons, the mc is also infected with the virus. Those who are infected with the virus will be sent to a small island where many girls have been infected with the virus.

Does Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid have elements of yuri? Yes, it indeed does. Is it an amazing romance anime? No, I wouldn't say so. The romance element is diluted by the lot of drama. Is it a really well constructed show with a meaningful message? No, there really isn't. There is just lots of commotion, and the plot isn't really organized. Fanservice is overused in this show, but I guess that is the purpose of fanservice (I don't know).
If you enjoy fanservice, this is the anime for you. There is a bunch. If you look forward to a good yuri anime, go look for better yuris.

This was my first experience with ecchi anime. I came across it while doing, we'll say, independent research online on the intricacies of female-female relationships. I was used to these sorts of things being 3 episode OVAs at best, with basically no plot. This thing had a whole 12 episodes with plenty of... plot, so I was obviously intrigued.

I do not know of any other anime that has an actual credit, "Special Breast Effects," and the artist who rose to new heights in this special area of interest certainly deserves to be credited for "Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid."
The show is trash, but it doesn't pretend to be anything else. And it's pretty good as trash. The show is not a plot with fan service but fan service with a plot, in this case that yuri love imparts superpowers. (I have yuri friends who believe that this is true IRL. There's a virus that only concerns with girls, for in which if she is found with the virus she is sent to an island to fight as a weapon or the one that uses the weapon. The story mainly follows two characters Mamori and Mirei. They are partnered on first meeting. And use each other to fight off or for emergency uses. However to turn into a weapon one must get turned on, meaning her partner must help get her aroused to turn into a weapon. Which is a weird idea, but gives the boys their yuri ecchi scenes.

The show had decent pacing. The way that the story is written allows it to have a lot of fanservice. In the first 2/3's of the show, it is episodic, but then the they ended the show with a boring plot involving Mirei, the second main character and Momaka, the main villain, which ends the show with a boring fight. Anyways the fight had all the standard clichés and was nothing special. I would prefer if it kept things simple and It was just them having fun, instead of having some villain taking over the island.

Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid's first impressions and what LA got out of the first couple of minutes was a softcore ecchi yuri anime, after watching the entirety of the anime, it's a softcore yuri ecchi anime that happens to have interesting characters.
Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid "plot" structure for the most part has a pretty in your face introduction as to what is in store for this kind of anime, a calm before the storm of a rather laxxed bulk middle and finally a major plot takes centre stage for the finale. And it's fine i guess, i don't mind ecchi i don't mind bad stories like this, it was in a ''Is that bad is funny'' category, the animation music and character design is good even if most of the girls show her boobs 90% of the time.
But then the new plot hit, and i hated all of it so fucking much.

This show has no meaningful plot and is solely built on the idea of using fan service to push the story forward. With characters having minimal backstory with almost no compelling information revealed about them, the only role literally becomes creating these weirdly aggressive make-out scenes that are dripping with shallow sexual tension; there is practically nothing to make these characters memorable, or worth investing any kind of emotion in.
The art is fine, but wasted on scenes of soft-core porn, and the backgrounds are dull in most situations, so even if the battle scenes have some decent to mediocre choreography, it is made irrelevant by the waste of artistic abilities elsewhere.
Overall, Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid feels like a poorly mutilated love-child of Sekirei and Soul Eater.

The story - it's okay. There were animes showing us people turning into armor before but they used it nicely, it was an excuse for yuri moments - and I don't see any problem with that. It's a yuri. The plot itself is really okay. Kind of original, kind of not. But I got surprised a few times, so I think that's a big plus. The visuals are not shockingly beutiful but the show looks great. I don't recall any bigger issue with animation. Music isn't very memorable but it's nice. Opening has a really good vocals. Character are a bit "tropy" but some of backstories were really interesting. I felt some empathy for main characters and I was curious what will happen next. Fanservice may get you annoyed but if you like yuri this won't be a bigger problem for you.

This is a 24 min, 12 episode show that has one of the best concepts of all time, what else do you want. Honestly, If you watch the first 5 minutes of episode 1 you can clearly realize what this show will be about so just enjoy this literal gift from God since there no many other shows out there like this one. Kaneko, Hiraku is a god amongst man and people need to stop taking this so seriously, but I'm not saying people should not have standards but come on this show was created to show a ton of fanservice and not as a serious show. In the end, this is was an amazing yuri and ecchi show that I hope more people will enjoy in the future.

Welcome to another of Robert's Too Late Reviews! I really gotta work on making sure they're actually late, instead of being half-way recent. Anyways, this time we're going to be talking about the dubbed version of Valkyrie Drive Mermaid. Be sure to check the synopsis, because I'm to be working directly off those details without repeating them. To make the short of it, this show is a good looking mess, with all kinds of convenient things thrown in and blended with some of the most unrealistic representation of the female form I've ever seen. Right now, the character Meifon would be taking bets on if this show made the wall of RTLR boobage, and the smart money is going to be on no. Let's kick this thing, and see what comes out.

This series was ok, if very short. Certain plot points I feel were sacrificed due to the author's mood or the publisher's SCHEDULE. It easily could've lasted at least 3 seasons with the content it had. Midway the series seemed rushed, which might have been due to the publisher. The ending was absolutely top notch mostly. This anime is something that woke me up!!!
This is an anime I really like, not because its "Yuri" but because the whole series is about protecting one of the mcs, and not only that, then the series is nice, because of the ecchi, romance, action. The action is really, really, really, something that can facinate you, and the ecchi, is kind of fun, but its hard to explain, the romance is something that is really strong, between the main charaters.
This is an anime that really is fun, but in a weird way.
You will like this anime if you like Action, romance, ecchi and weird yuri, but when i wathced it, then my whole mind set was being changed, cuz this anime is really great, but not the best, but really great.
